Greater London
SexMale
Age4 years
BreedLabrador

Amazing Ace is a fun loving, intelligent and sweet natured boy who melts the hearts of everyone he meets. He is very affectionate with those he knows but can sometimes be worried by strangers, barking at some, so will need an understanding owner that will provide him with reassurance and guidance when needed. He is always up for an adventure but prefers quieter areas as he can become overwhelmed and frustrated in busier environments. He loves a good game with his toys and thrives on having a job to do such as scent work or tracking. This lovely lad would suit an experienced and active owner that has plenty of time on their hands to continue with his training and socialisation as well as keeping him mentally and physically stimulated. Ace has a lot of love to give and will make a highly rewarding companion for the right person or family.Ace is looking for a home in a quiet area or where he will have quick access to an open area or park. He can live in a ground floor flat as long as there is direct access to a private garden. He can live with sensible, junior/secondary age children that have lived with dogs before, will give him space when needed and won't be intimidated by his bouncy nature at times. He could also potentially live with a dog confident cat as long as his owner will facilitate slow intros and teach him not to chase! His new owner will be expected to continue his training and socialisation and will receive three free 1:1 sessions with our Mayhew Animal Behaviourist to help guide them. Ace has a previous injury to his left hip, which occurred when he was a puppy. This means the hip joint is no longer sitting in its normal position. Over time, his body has adapted, but this has resulted in a slightly shorter leg and some muscle loss on that side. Despite this, Ace is very active and enjoys exercise, and he does use the leg when walking and running. We are carrying out a short trial of anti-inflammatory medication to ensure he remains comfortable. Some dogs with this type of injury may benefit from intermittent pain relief long-term. In some cases, dogs with this condition may require surgery in the future if they become more uncomfortable or their mobility worsens. Ace has been microchipped, neutered, will have received his first vaccination and is up to date with flea & worming treatment. He has also been health checked and behaviourally assessed. Lastly, every dog adopted from us will go home with 4 weeks free pet insurance. If you are interested in adopting Ace, please read the information below including the 'Other notes' section, to check your circumstances match theirs. If they do, please take a look at our current rehoming process, and fill out an application form. There is a lot to consider before adopting a new family memberWe’ll send you an email whenever we add a new dog to our websiteCould you offer a temporary home for an animal in need?Trenmar Gardens Kensal Green London NW10 6BJinfo@mayhewanimalhome.org 020 8962 8000 for receptionReceive upcoming issues of our ‘Tails’ magazine delivered to your doorstep twice a year!Subscribe to our newsletter for all things Mayhew

Hello, friends! My name is Amlet, and I’m a sweet‑natured, friendly black Labrador cross, around 7.5 years young. For the past three years I’ve been living at CyDRA shelter, patiently waiting for a forever home. Could it finally be with you?I might not love labels, but I do embrace one classic Labrador trait with pride: I absolutely love food! After what I’ve been through, I think I’ve earned it. I also love water—paddling in the sea, splashing in puddles, even a good hose‑down makes me wiggle with joy. And my favourite game is chasing my ball; I’m a keen fetch partner and will happily play until it’s time for cuddles and a nap.You see, I spent my entire life chained up, barely surviving on scraps of food and little water. Then one day, everything changed. A kind stranger saw me and contacted the vet services, who called in a rescue team. That’s how I finally got a chance at a better life—and moved into the shelter, where I learned what it means to be treated with love and respect.Because of my difficult past, I can be a little unsure around other dogs at first. With slow, gentle introductions, I warm up—and once I trust, I love deeply. I’ve happily shared my kennel with several female dog friends, and I do best in calm, respectful company. There’s still so much of life I haven’t experienced—exploring new walks, splashing on adventures, playing ball in the garden, and cuddles on the couch—but I’m ready to start now. I’m looking for a quiet, loving home where I can feel safe, relax, and show off my affectionate personality (and yes, my adorable fluffy tail). My ideal home:*Peaceful and patient, with time for gentle training and reassurance.*Either as an only dog or with a calm female companion.*Access to outdoor fun—water play and ball games are my happy place!I’m ready to pack my bags. Will you be the one to open your heart and welcome me home?

Aramis is a medium sized black Labrador cross aged around seven years old. Isn’t yet cat tested but can be. Can live with or without other dogs. Respectful children 8plus Aramis has come into our care recently from a private shelter in Deva Romania. He was one of a litter of puppies abandoned at the shelter as an and has spent his life there until now. Aramis is a friemdly boy who loves people. He can be a little wary of new people initially but soon warms up to make friends. Despite the limitations of shelter life he’s a confident and cuddly boy who will be an easy addition to most homes. Aramis can live with or without other dogs and would be comfortable around respectful children aged eight plus.Aramis fostered Norwich Norfolk.Adoption Donation Fees are Puppies already neutered and all adult dogs: £430. Un-neutered puppies on spay/neuter contracts: £530 (You will receive a £100 rebate once you send us proof of neutering). Senior dogs (10+ years): £150–£250 (depending on age and individual needs). When you adopt a Safe Rescue dog, you MUST use a slip lead. This will keep your dog safe: your new dog will be nervous and will not trust you, and you will not know which situations might upset your dog. If your dog panics, then a slip lead is the only way to prevent your dog from escaping (many dogs can escape from a collar and/or harness). It will take AT LEAST 3-6 months for your dog to settle-in and for you to know your dog fully (longer for nervous dogs). The slip lead must ALWAYS be used during this settling-in period. Even after your dog is settled, it is safest to use the slip lead in situations where your dog may become scared (e.g. visiting new places, around unfamiliar people, at the vet), and it situations where unexpected triggers might happen (e.g. around bonfire night). Nervous dogs may always need to wear a slip-lead as a back-up safety measure. The slip lead is a safety device and must NEVER be used as a training tool. Using the lead to apply pressure to the dog’s neck is damaging. If your dog pulls on the lead, then we can advise you on training methods that avoid harm. Once your dog is settled, you may want to consider using a harness (together with the slip lead) if your dog is comfortable with being handled when it is fitted. Most harnesses are not escape-proof, but harnesses with a strap behind the ribcage (e.g. Ruffwear Webmaster or Perfect Fit Harnesses) are safer. Retractable / extendable leads must never be used on our dogs. Adopted dogs must be collected from the rescue and transported straight home in a secure metal crate. Fences and gates must be 5foot minimum in height and secure.

Bear

Derbyshire
SexMale
Age1 year
BreedLabrador

Bear is a lovely young lad who came to us for rehoming due to being part of an unplanned litter that didn’t find a home, he came in with his Brother, Joey. He’s a mix of breeds… his Mum is a Labrador/Husky mix, and his Dad is a medium sized foreign rescue. He is slightly bigger than Joey.Unfortunately Bear hasn’t ever been walked so hasn’t had any socialisation with dogs, apart from the several dogs in his previous home… he can be vocal when he see’s another dog out on walks, but we feel that this is simply that he doesn’t know how to react. We are confident that with a routine, regular outings and plenty of training he will make a fantastic companion! He’s clever and seems keen to please.Bear is very affectionate with people, he gets very excited – a typical puppy! He loves a cuddle! He has lived with children and could go to a new home with children over 5yrs.Bear is still very much a puppy… and has received very little training. He will be good fun, but will also need a fair amount of work with his training and socialisation. He has always had other dogs for company when left, so time alone would need to be built up gradually.
