Greater London
SexMale
Age4 years
BreedLabrador

Amazing Ace is a fun loving, intelligent and sweet natured boy who melts the hearts of everyone he meets. He is very affectionate with those he knows but can sometimes be worried by strangers, barking at some, so will need an understanding owner that will provide him with reassurance and guidance when needed. He is always up for an adventure but prefers quieter areas as he can become overwhelmed and frustrated in busier environments. He loves a good game with his toys and thrives on having a job to do such as scent work or tracking. This lovely lad would suit an experienced and active owner that has plenty of time on their hands to continue with his training and socialisation as well as keeping him mentally and physically stimulated. Ace has a lot of love to give and will make a highly rewarding companion for the right person or family.Ace is looking for a home in a quiet area or where he will have quick access to an open area or park. He can live in a ground floor flat as long as there is direct access to a private garden. He can live with sensible, junior/secondary age children that have lived with dogs before, will give him space when needed and won't be intimidated by his bouncy nature at times. He could also potentially live with a dog confident cat as long as his owner will facilitate slow intros and teach him not to chase! His new owner will be expected to continue his training and socialisation and will receive three free 1:1 sessions with our Mayhew Animal Behaviourist to help guide them. Ace has a previous injury to his left hip, which occurred when he was a puppy. This means the hip joint is no longer sitting in its normal position. Over time, his body has adapted, but this has resulted in a slightly shorter leg and some muscle loss on that side. Despite this, Ace is very active and enjoys exercise, and he does use the leg when walking and running. We are carrying out a short trial of anti-inflammatory medication to ensure he remains comfortable. Some dogs with this type of injury may benefit from intermittent pain relief long-term. In some cases, dogs with this condition may require surgery in the future if they become more uncomfortable or their mobility worsens. Ace has been microchipped, neutered, will have received his first vaccination and is up to date with flea & worming treatment. He has also been health checked and behaviourally assessed. Lastly, every dog adopted from us will go home with 4 weeks free pet insurance. If you are interested in adopting Ace, please read the information below including the 'Other notes' section, to check your circumstances match theirs. If they do, please take a look at our current rehoming process, and fill out an application form. There is a lot to consider before adopting a new family memberWe’ll send you an email whenever we add a new dog to our websiteCould you offer a temporary home for an animal in need?Trenmar Gardens Kensal Green London NW10 6BJinfo@mayhewanimalhome.org 020 8962 8000 for receptionReceive upcoming issues of our ‘Tails’ magazine delivered to your doorstep twice a year!Subscribe to our newsletter for all things Mayhew

She will need at least one other kind and confident resident dog to take her under her wing and help her learn that the world isn't so scary.Alice isn't used to being touched or handled at the moment and finds this quite worrying, so will need kind and understanding adopters. Are you right for Alvie?Stunning youngster Alvie is a 2 year old Lab who has more energy than he knows what to do with! Our behaviour team would be happy to work alongside his new family to support with these behaviours during and after his adoption. Although Alvie is a very sociable fella, he'd love to make friends whilst out and about on his walks, but he'd be best placed as the only dog in the home at the moment, and to have quick access into a garden space of some sort. This gorgeous golden boy has had an unsettled start in life so is looking for an experienced and dedicated family who can help him thrive. Is Alvie right for you?Adorable Alvie is able to be left home alone for around 4 hours once he is settled. As a typical Lab, he does love his food so he is eager to learn tricks for some tasty treats! Alvie is also not the biggest fan of the car, so wouldn't be keen to plan any big road trips at the moment. Alvie has some ongoing medical requirements that our vet team can discuss in more detail with his future family. He would love to meet his family several times at the centre, and have some sleepovers, before he is adopted to help set him up for success, as he has had multiple homes already. This handsome lad is a huge personality and he is super playful - he's going to make a very rewarding addition to a committed family. Animal Welfare licence number is AWE02, as licenced by Glasgow City Council.

BreedLabrador

Aramis is a medium sized black Labrador cross aged around seven years old. Isn’t yet cat tested but can be. Can live with or without other dogs. Respectful children 8plus Aramis has come into our care recently from a private shelter in Deva Romania. He was one of a litter of puppies abandoned at the shelter as an and has spent his life there until now. Aramis is a friemdly boy who loves people. He can be a little wary of new people initially but soon warms up to make friends. Despite the limitations of shelter life he’s a confident and cuddly boy who will be an easy addition to most homes. Aramis can live with or without other dogs and would be comfortable around respectful children aged eight plus.Aramis fostered Norwich Norfolk.Adoption Donation Fees are Puppies already neutered and all adult dogs: £430. Un-neutered puppies on spay/neuter contracts: £530 (You will receive a £100 rebate once you send us proof of neutering). Senior dogs (10+ years): £150–£250 (depending on age and individual needs). When you adopt a Safe Rescue dog, you MUST use a slip lead. This will keep your dog safe: your new dog will be nervous and will not trust you, and you will not know which situations might upset your dog. If your dog panics, then a slip lead is the only way to prevent your dog from escaping (many dogs can escape from a collar and/or harness). It will take AT LEAST 3-6 months for your dog to settle-in and for you to know your dog fully (longer for nervous dogs). The slip lead must ALWAYS be used during this settling-in period. Even after your dog is settled, it is safest to use the slip lead in situations where your dog may become scared (e.g. visiting new places, around unfamiliar people, at the vet), and it situations where unexpected triggers might happen (e.g. around bonfire night). Nervous dogs may always need to wear a slip-lead as a back-up safety measure. The slip lead is a safety device and must NEVER be used as a training tool. Using the lead to apply pressure to the dog’s neck is damaging. If your dog pulls on the lead, then we can advise you on training methods that avoid harm. Once your dog is settled, you may want to consider using a harness (together with the slip lead) if your dog is comfortable with being handled when it is fitted. Most harnesses are not escape-proof, but harnesses with a strap behind the ribcage (e.g. Ruffwear Webmaster or Perfect Fit Harnesses) are safer. Retractable / extendable leads must never be used on our dogs. Adopted dogs must be collected from the rescue and transported straight home in a secure metal crate. Fences and gates must be 5foot minimum in height and secure.

Bam, a 2 years old male Labrador available for adoption from Dogs Trust in Devon

Bam

Devon
SexMale
Age2 years
BreedLabrador

Are you right for Bam?Bam is a handsome two-year-old Lab cross Poodle looking for a loving home. He could share his home with teenage children 16yrs plus, is looking to be the only dog in the home and will need a home without cats or small furries. Care may be needed around livestock. Bam is housetrained. He travels well in the car for short journeys. He is happy to be left alone in the home for a few hours at a time if this is built up gradually. He could cope with a reasonably busy household, although he is likely to be shy around new visitors until he gets to know them. Bam will need access to walkies in quieter locations with limited dog populations. Is Bam right for you?Once Bam is familiar with people he adores snuggles and being close. Initially he is shy around new people; he finds it easier to make friends if there are nice treats on offer or if you’re up for a game of fetch. Bam loves to chase after balls, tuggy games and squeaky toys. He is a bright spark who picks up training quickly. He already knows a sit, paw, and wait. His favourite treats include cheese, chicken, and broccoli. Bam enjoys his walks in quieter locations so he can relax, low dog populated areas are key to success as he makes it clear that he is worried by other dogs coming too close. Bam would benefit from adopters who can help him build confidence around other dogs working at a distance where he is comfortable. (We can help and support adopters with this.) Bam in the home environment is settled and chilled. He likes to potter around his garden, he is not a fan of the hoover, he dislikes loud environments, and he takes himself off to bed when he’s ready.

Barney, a 2 years old male Labrador available for adoption from RSPCA in Surrey

I am a "quality over quantity" kind of guy when it comes to friends. I can be a little shy when meeting new people, so I’ll need a bit of time to realise you’re one of the good ones. Once I trust you, though, you’ve got a friend for life! An adult only home or one with older teenagers would be best for me.My Passions: Tennis balls (I’m an expert!), carrying the biggest toys I can find on my walks, and sniffing out new trails. I can be a little strong on the lead at times so I need an owner with energy, who can hold me in my bouncy moments. My Social Style: I actually enjoy meeting other dogs out and about! However, I’m a bit of a "toy hogger" at home—I’d much prefer to live by myself so I don’t have to share my precious tennis ball collection. My Vibe: I’m more of a "quiet forest hike" dog than a "busy Saturday morning cafe" dog. Crowded places stress me out, so I’m looking for a home in a peaceful area. I would also like my own, private enclosed garden so I can play safelyMy Home life ideals - I would like someone at home with me most of the day while I settle in my new routine, the time I am left will need to be built up slowly. In my last home my owner was not able to take me out for a year so I will need a refresher in house training and I may need my confidence built with car travel too. My new family will need to have the time and patience to support me as I get used to my new home and the wider world. My new family will also need to have had experience of owning dogs that are a bit worried before.
