Bluebell, a 5 years old female Maltese available for adoption from Dogs Trust in West Yorkshire

Are you right for Bluebell?Bluebell is a very sweet and sensitive 5yr old Maltese who came to us from a pretty awful situation. She's had a very difficult life, and not had the best experiences with humans prior to being with us. This has left her very uncomfortable around being handled. There was a time when she was too frightened to even leave her kennel, but through slow and consistent training she has come on brilliantly and is now ready to find her forever home. She will always be a timid girl and finds noisy, unpredictable situations frightening, so she must live in an adult only home with a secure garden so she has an outdoor space she feels safe in. Other dogs give Bluebell a lot of confidence so it's vital that she shares her home with a similar doggy friend or two who can help her find her way. She will need her new family around all the time for a good while as she has a lot of settling in to do but our team will be happy to help and support every step of the way.Is Bluebell right for you?We are incredibly proud of Bluebell's rehabilitation so far and we're keen to find her the right home to continue growing in confidence. For now she is living with one of our wonderful foster carers who tells us that once she has bonded with you she is a fun little dog! She enjoys playing with toys when the mood takes her and seems to like having her friends nearby. She will likely never be a lap-dog but she is proving that by letting her come round in her own time, and having another doggy friend with her, her confidence is definitely growing. Bluebell is taking medication to help with her anxieties and also for a luxating patella, but please don't be put off by this. Our Vet has a plan and will discuss in more detail with potential adopters. Add Bluebell to your favourites if you lead a peaceful life and have the time and passion to help us turn this lovely little lady's life around.

Denny, a 2 years old male Maltese x Poodle available for adoption from Margaret Green Animal Rescue in Devon

Denny

Age2 years
BreedMaltese x Poodle

Denny is a handsome Maltese x who needs continued work in his new home as even though he has come on well since arriving there is still a lot of progress for him to make.Denny is looking for a quiet home without children and with one or two adults at most, and minimal adult only visitors. A calm, predictable environment will help him feel safe and secure. His adopters will need to be prepared to make a couple of visits to build his trust and form a bond before he goes home. When Denny arrived we could see that he hadn’t been socialised much which meant that he was unsure of new people and any form of handling, so with time and patience he has slowly got better with this, so it is important that his owners have had nervous dogs previously and understand the time it will take for him to trust you. Denny still isn’t keen on his vet visits so this area will need to be worked on to help him feel safe and secure.Denny has been working on his doggy social skills here and he has started to make some four-legged friends, but he will need to be the only pet in the home so that he can have your whole focus on him to help him become a well-adjusted dog. Denny may be cute, but he isn’t a typical lap dog, and he needs the active lifestyle to keep him mentally and physically stimulated and will need owners who like getting out and about and showing Denny lots of new places to help him socialise. With kindness, consistency, and patience, Denny has every chance to blossom into a devoted and loyal companion in the right home.

We recently welcomed three Maltese into our care — mum, dad, and daughter. After a much-needed pamper session (huge thanks to Hounds on the Hill, Stamford ), they’re all looking and smelling absolutely gorgeous! We’re delighted to share that mum has now been reserved, but dad Marlow (5 yrs) and daughter Mina (2.5 yrs) are still waiting for their forever home. These two are the more confident of the trio and absolutely love to play together, clearly taking comfort from one another.Because of their strong bond, we are hoping to find a home where Marlow and Mina can stay together. They would thrive with someone who understands how special it is to give a bonded pair the chance to stay side by side.

Rooktail, a 5 years old female Maltese X Bichon Frise available for adoption from Many Tears Animal Rescue in Wales

Many Tears Animal Rescue

Rooktail

Wales
SexFemale
Age5 years
BreedMaltese X Bichon Frise

Rooktail has come into our care from a breeder in search of a fresh start. When she first arrived, she was very nervous and unsure in new surroundings, often preferring the comfort and safety of her kennel friends and keeping her distance from people.Since then, Rooktail has already begun to make some lovely progress. With gentle, patient interaction and plenty of encouragement (and tasty treats!), she is starting to build her confidence and trust. She has begun taking food from the hand and is learning that people can be kind and reassuring. She can still be shy and will sometimes choose to retreat if she feels unsure, but she is slowly gaining confidence at her own pace.Rooktail continues to take great comfort from other dogs and will need to be homed with a calm, confident resident dog who can help guide her and provide reassurance as she settles into home life. Being around other dogs really helps her feel safe, and she has even started to relax enough to enjoy gentle play and new experiences alongside them.As Rooktail has never lived in a home before, she will need patient adopters who can teach her all about house training, lead walking, and the everyday routines of home life. She is also getting used to gentle handling and, while she may still freeze at times, she is allowing more interaction as her confidence grows. A quiet, stable environment will help her continue this progress and feel secure. We are looking for an adult-only home for Rooktail so that she can adjust without the pressures of a busy household. She will need understanding adopters who are happy to take things at her pace and give her the time and space she needs to truly come out of her shell.Rooktail has a luxating patella, which isn’t causing her any discomfort at present and may improve with gentle exercise, but her adopters will need to monitor this ongoing. This is a pre-existing condition and won’t be covered by insurance. She has also had three teeth removed at the time of her spay and has been treated for a ear infection.Rooktail is a gentle, sweet girl with so much potential. She is already showing that, with patience, kindness, and reassurance, she can begin to trust and enjoy the world around her. In the right home, she will continue to blossom into a loyal and affectionate companion.Rooktail has been given the Gift of Life by Lisa Williams

Ruby, a 10 months old female Maltese X Yorkshire Terrier available for adoption from Safe Rescue For Dogs in Norfolk

Safe Rescue For Dogs

Ruby

Norfolk
SexFemale
Age10 months
BreedMaltese X Yorkshire Terrier

Ruby is 10 months old. Not cat tested. Can live with or without other dogs. Children 7 plus Ruby is a ten month old female Maltese x Yorkie who has come into our care after being passed around four previous homes! When arriving in our care the fosterer realised she had a urine problem – after investigation We found She has congenital kidney disease. She drinks excessively and urinates frequently – when she first came she was not house trained but now apart from the odd accident she will go outside if prompted but she will need someone home a good part of the day . Ruby is on renal dry food to help her illness . Ruby is a lovely happy little girl who loves to play with toys and other dogs – she is very cuddly and sleeps upstairs with her fosterer with no accidents . Ruby has not been socialised out of the home and can bark at other dogs not aggressively but because she wants to meet them – this is a work in progress and needs further commitment of the adopter. We do not know the long term for Ruby – we have been told that this disease will shorten her life and we want her next few years to be the best ever for her.Ruby is fostered in Hingham Norfolk.Adoption Donation Fees are Puppies already neutered and all adult dogs: £430. Un-neutered puppies on spay/neuter contracts: £530 (You will receive a £100 rebate once you send us proof of neutering). Senior dogs (10+ years): £150–£250 (depending on age and individual needs). When you adopt a Safe Rescue dog, you MUST use a slip lead. This will keep your dog safe: your new dog will be nervous and will not trust you, and you will not know which situations might upset your dog. If your dog panics, then a slip lead is the only way to prevent your dog from escaping (many dogs can escape from a collar and/or harness). It will take AT LEAST 3-6 months for your dog to settle-in and for you to know your dog fully (longer for nervous dogs). The slip lead must ALWAYS be used during this settling-in period. Even after your dog is settled, it is safest to use the slip lead in situations where your dog may become scared (e.g. visiting new places, around unfamiliar people, at the vet), and it situations where unexpected triggers might happen (e.g. around bonfire night). Nervous dogs may always need to wear a slip-lead as a back-up safety measure. The slip lead is a safety device and must NEVER be used as a training tool. Using the lead to apply pressure to the dog’s neck is damaging. If your dog pulls on the lead, then we can advise you on training methods that avoid harm. Once your dog is settled, you may want to consider using a harness (together with the slip lead) if your dog is comfortable with being handled when it is fitted. Most harnesses are not escape-proof, but harnesses with a strap behind the ribcage (e.g. Ruffwear Webmaster or Perfect Fit Harnesses) are safer. Retractable / extendable leads must never be used on our dogs. Adopted dogs must be collected from the rescue and transported straight home in a secure metal crate. Fences and gates must be 5foot minimum in height and secure.
