Cedar is a very timid little lady who has come to us from a breeder. She is completely shut down and has very little life experience, so everything is new and frightening for her.Since arriving, she has shown tiny but meaningful steps forward. At first, she was too scared to eat for over a week. It took a lot of patience, different foods, and ways of feeding before she began to feel safe enough to eat. Eventually, she started taking chicken at the back of her kennel, where she felt secure, and now she will eat her normal food alongside the other dogs, even if someone is watching. In recent weeks she has progressed even further and now will eat a treat from the floor near her kennel mummy.Cedar’s fear of humans is very strong. She avoids being touched or handled, and her whole body tenses when interaction is necessary. But there are glimpses of trust: in the mornings, she would run to the front of her kennel, tail wagging, giving kisses when she saw someone familiar. She is now in a foster home where she is learning the basics of home life and learning new skills like toilet training. She is enjoying exploring the garden and spends her time figuring out how the world around her works. She isn’t ready for harness training or walks outside. Cedar needs to build her inner confidence before she can experience the outside world. Her future home will need to understand that progress will be slow and must never be rushed.Cedar will need very experienced, calm, and patient adopters who can provide unconditional love and consistency. She may never fully reveal why she is so scared, but with time and gentle support, she can start to feel safe and learn that life can be kind. She needs a quiet, understanding home where she can grow at her own pace, with someone who will never give up on her. She needs a resident dog that will take her under their wing and allow her the patience she needs to grow. This little lady has already taken small steps forward, and with the right home, she can continue to do so, slowly, carefully, and surrounded by love.Cedar has been given the Gift of Life by Loraine Dixon

BreedMiniature Poodle

Cress is a very frightened little lady who came to us from a breeder and had never experienced life in a home before arriving in rescue. She is currently in a foster home and while she is still a scared girl, she is slowly beginning to learn what home life is all about. She takes great comfort from other dogs and relies heavily on them for reassurance, spending most of her time close to her canine companions. Watching their interactions with people is helping her build confidence, and she will happily relax on the sofa for gentle cuddles and ear and chest tickles as long as another dog is nearby. Although she will still run away if approached directly, she is gradually learning that human hands can be kind.Cress is not yet house trained, as she is currently very worried about going outside. When carried outside, she is initially frightened but does settle after a short time and has even started showing curiosity about birds and her surroundings. She will need lots of time and patience to continue to get used to venturing outside in her foster home. She doesn't walk on a lead just yet and it will be quite a while before she is ready to start learning about this. She will be looking for a very special, calm and quiet, adult-only home with kind, patient adopters who understand that everything must be taken slowly and at her pace. She would be best suited to adopters who have experience of scared ex-breeding dogs. When she feels overwhelmed or frightened, she can panic and may choose to make the wrong decision, so her new family will need to give her the time, space, and gentle guidance she needs to feel safe. A kind and confident resident dog is essential to help her continue building confidence, and she may be able to live with a dog-savvy cat, as she is currently in foster with one and has been fine.Cress is a beautifully gentle, sensitive little soul who simply needs a quiet, loving home where she can feel secure. With patience, understanding, and steady support, she will continue to grow in confidence and blossom into a loyal and affectionate companion.Cress has been given the Gift of Life by Loraine Dixon

Donna came to us from a breeder to find her forever home, and while she arrived as a very worried little girl, she has been making such lovely progress. Although she can still be sensitive in new situations, Donna has been bravely coming out of her shell and showing us what a sweet and gentle soul she truly is.She has gone from being visibly frightened of human touch to now approaching for a gentle fuss and even asking for more when you stop. It has been a joy to watch her confidence begin to blossom, and we feel sure she will continue to flourish in a home environment with people of her own.Donna is an absolute darling to care for and never puts a paw wrong. She is a quiet, innocent little lady who enjoys life’s simple pleasures. Food is certainly a favourite, along with sunbathing, cosy beds, toys, and having a peaceful place to relax. We think she will absolutely adore home comforts and having her own garden to potter around in.Donna will be looking for a calm and quiet home with patient, understanding adopters who will go at her pace and help her work through any worries she may have. She would love a kind, calm resident dog who won’t be too overwhelming and can gently show her the ropes. Having a steady canine friend beside her will help her continue to build confidence in the world around her.As Donna has never lived in a home before, her adopters will need to be supportive as she learns all about home life, including house training and everyday routines. She is still finding lead walking quite scary at the moment, particularly the tension on the lead, so this will need to be introduced very gradually, ideally starting in a secure garden and building up slowly and positively.Donna could live with older dog-savvy teens who understand the importance of giving her space as she settles.Beneath her sensitive nature is a devoted and rewarding little companion waiting to bloom. Donna has already come so far, and in the right home, with kindness and love, we know she has the potential to thrive and be someone’s very special best friend. Our vets have noted that she has a lump on her neck, which will be assessed further at the time of her spay. She is also being treated for mild bilateral conjunctivitis.Donna has a travel document.Donna has been given the Gift of Life by Jackie Harvey & Katerina Loopstra

Meet Tabby Tabby is a gorgeous Miniature Poodle × Shih Tzu with a sweet and gentle nature. She came into Ferne through no fault of her own and is now looking for a loving forever home. She’s house-trained but can have the odd accident, crate-trained, and used to being left for short periods (1–2 hours). Tabby has lived with children aged 4+ and with cats, and she gets along well with other dogs both on and off the lead—though her tiny size means she can feel a little nervous around large, bouncy dogs. Tabby walks nicely on a loose lead, travels well, and absolutely loves playing fetch. Her recall will need some continued training in her new home. Because of her beautiful coat, she’ll need regular grooming every 2–3 months. If you’re ready to give this adorable little girl the loving home she deserves, please apply online.
