Cedar is a very timid little lady who has come to us from a breeder. She is completely shut down and has very little life experience, so everything is new and frightening for her.Since arriving, she has shown tiny but meaningful steps forward. At first, she was too scared to eat for over a week. It took a lot of patience, different foods, and ways of feeding before she began to feel safe enough to eat. Eventually, she started taking chicken at the back of her kennel, where she felt secure, and now she will eat her normal food alongside the other dogs, even if someone is watching. In recent weeks she has progressed even further and now will eat a treat from the floor near her kennel mummy.Cedar’s fear of humans is very strong. She avoids being touched or handled, and her whole body tenses when interaction is necessary. But there are glimpses of trust: in the mornings, she runs to the front of her kennel, tail wagging, giving kisses when she sees someone familiar. It’s the only time she currently shows affection, but it’s a start. She isn’t ready for harness training or walks outside. Cedar needs to build her inner confidence before she can experience the outside world. Her future home will need to understand that progress will be slow and must never be rushed.Cedar will need very experienced, calm, and patient adopters who can provide unconditional love and consistency. She may never fully reveal why she is so scared, but with time and gentle support, she can start to feel safe and learn that life can be kind. She needs a quiet, understanding home where she can grow at her own pace, with someone who will never give up on her. She needs a resident dog that will take her under their wing and allow her the patience she needs to grow. This little lady has already taken small steps forward, and with the right home, she can continue to do so, slowly, carefully, and surrounded by love.Cedar has been given the Gift of Life by Loraine Dixon

Cress is a very frightened little lady who came to us from a breeder and had never experienced life in a home before arriving in rescue. She is currently in a foster home and while she is still a scared girl, she is slowly beginning to learn what home life is all about. She takes great comfort from other dogs and relies heavily on them for reassurance, spending most of her time close to her canine companions. Watching their interactions with people is helping her build confidence, and she will happily relax on the sofa for gentle cuddles and ear and chest tickles as long as another dog is nearby. Although she will still run away if approached directly, she is gradually learning that human hands can be kind.Cress is not yet house trained, as she is currently very worried about going outside. When carried outside, she is initially frightened but does settle after a short time and has even started showing curiosity about birds and her surroundings. She will need lots of time and patience to continue to get used to venturing outside in her foster home. She doesn't walk on a lead just yet and it will be quite a while before she is ready to start learning about this. She will be looking for a very special, calm and quiet, adult-only home with kind, patient adopters who understand that everything must be taken slowly and at her pace. She would be best suited to adopters who have experience of scared ex-breeding dogs. When she feels overwhelmed or frightened, she can panic and may choose to make the wrong decision, so her new family will need to give her the time, space, and gentle guidance she needs to feel safe. A kind and confident resident dog is essential to help her continue building confidence, and she may be able to live with a dog-savvy cat, as she is currently in foster with one and has been fine.Cress is a beautifully gentle, sensitive little soul who simply needs a quiet, loving home where she can feel secure. With patience, understanding, and steady support, she will continue to grow in confidence and blossom into a loyal and affectionate companion.Cress has been given the Gift of Life by Loraine Dixon

23-03-26 Lorence is a sweet little boy who has come to us from a breeder and can be quite shy and a little nervous. He finds reassurance in the company of other dogs and will need a home with a kind and confident resident dog who can offer comfort and act as a role model as he learns about life in a home.As Lorence has never lived in a home environment, he will need patient and understanding adopters to gently guide him through all the basics, including house training and learning to walk on a lead. This may feel overwhelming for him at first, so starting with calm, positive experiences, such as exploring a secure garden, will help him build confidence at his own pace.At the moment he will be looking for an adult home or with teenagers 16+ as he can be a little mouthy at times, but we will continue to work on this with him while he is with us.Lorence is looking for someone to give him a chance and provide the time, patience, and TLC he truly deserves. I'm a 3-year-old Miniature Poodle Cross from Thirsk rehoming centre and I'm looking for my forever home. Please read my profile below to find out more. Thanks for clicking on my profile. I have now been matched with a loving family and I’m looking forward to settling in at my new home. However, many of my friends still need adopting.Misty is a sweet-natured, little girl looking for a calm, loving home. She’s a gentle soul who thrives in a peaceful environment and would suit a home who appreciate a relaxed, steady companion rather than a high-energy whirlwind. She hasn’t lived with other dogs before, but she’s friendly when meeting them out and about, so she could live with a well-matched, calm dog after successful introductions. She’s equally affectionate with people and enjoys nothing more than curling up beside you on the sofa for a cuddle.Misty is used to moderate exercise and is happiest with a couple of good walks each day. Once home, she settles beautifully and has lovely house manners. She’s also comfortable being left for reasonable periods, making her a good fit for households with a balanced routine.Car journeys aren’t her favourite, so she’ll need patient encouragement to build confidence with travel. A home where she doesn’t need to be driven around frequently would suit her well.If you’re looking for a gentle, affectionate companion who brings calmness and warmth to the home, Misty may be the perfect match. She’s ready to find a family who will appreciate her soft nature and give her the steady, loving life she deserves. The best way to stay up to date with what's going on at Blue Cross is to join our mailing list.Blue Cross is a registered charity in England and Wales (224392) and in Scotland (SC040154). Ruth is a beautiful lady who has already shown us just how brave and resilient she is. She first came to us in 2023 from a breeder in Ireland, having never lived inside a home before. At that time, she was a very shy and nervous little girl, unsure of the world and people around her. With time, patience, and the kindness of foster families, adopters, and our kennel carers, Ruth has blossomed beautifully. The once-timid girl who kept her distance now enjoys affection from people she trusts. She dances with excitement when she sees her favourite humans, loves a fuss and a bum scratch, and is showing us every day just how much she wants to be loved.Ruth was adopted and given a wonderful home, but her naturally “bossy poodle” side was a little too much for the gentle, quiet dogs she lived with. Out of kindness to all of their pets, her adopters made the very difficult decision to return her. We are so grateful to them for the love and progress they gave her.Ruth is now in a foster home, where she has settled in very well and continues to grow in confidence. She relies on the resident dog in the home and loves having canine company, often sleeping next to him through the night and cuddling up together. Because of this, canine companionship is very important to her and she will need at least one confident resident dog in her new home, preferably a male.In her foster home, Ruth enjoys being around her carers and is becoming much more comfortable with affection. She is easy to handle, enjoys cuddles, and will happily give little kisses once she feels safe with you. While she can still be a little shy with people she doesn’t know at first, her confidence continues to grow every day.Ruth has made wonderful progress with her lead walking and now really enjoys going out for walks. She travels well in the car and is becoming more relaxed in busier environments too. She has even started accompanying her foster carer out for coffee or visits to the pub, where she is learning that the world can be a safe and enjoyable place. She also loves to play with the resident dog in her foster home, enjoying gentle, quiet games together. Their calm play style suits her perfectly and highlights how important a friendly canine companion is for her confidence and happiness.Ruth is housetrained and can be left for short periods of time, around a couple of hours, but she does rely on the reassurance of having another dog in the home. She has also become used to having her teeth cleaned, which has helped improve the condition of both her teeth and gums.Ruth still shows occasional glimpses of the shy girl she once was, but the progress she has made is truly wonderful. She is now a happy little lady who enjoys the comforts of home life and the company of people and dogs she trusts.Ruth was treated for an ear infection when she originally arrived with us. She has also had a dental where a few teeth were extracted, and the vets noted periodontal disease and gingivitis. Because of this, it is important that her new adopters continue to stay on top of her dental care and maintain regular teeth cleaning.Ruth is a really sweet, gentle girl who is easy to care for and a pleasure to have around. She is looking for a calm, understanding home with a kind male dog who can continue to help guide her as she grows in confidence. After everything she has been through, Ruth truly deserves to find the loving forever home she has been waiting for.
