About A New Leash For Life

A New Leash for Life Rescue is a volunteer-led organisation founded by Marcene Lines, who has spent over nine years rescuing dogs and has helped rehome around 7,000. Working with trusted rescuers abroad, the charity identifies dogs in need, ensures they receive vaccinations and travel documentation, and brings them safely to the UK for foster care and adoption. A dedicated team of volunteers and foster families supports rehabilitation, assessment and careful matching to suitable homes. Funded entirely through donations, sponsorship and fundraising, the rescue is driven by the belief that every dog deserves a warm and loving home, regardless of their past.

At just 13 months old, Albie has already come so far on his journey and is now ready to find the loving family he deserves. Albie is a medium-sized, neutered mixed-breed boy who came into foster care in February. When he first arrived, he was terrified of people and found any kind of touch frightening. He would run away and hide, taking comfort from following his foster family's resident dog, who became his guide and source of reassurance. Happiness didn't seem to come easily to him. Fast forward a few months, and Albie is blossoming into the most wonderful young dog. Now, when his family comes downstairs in the morning or arrives home, he greets them with the sweetest wiggly bum and wagging tail. He actively seeks out affection, enjoys cuddles, and will happily roll over for a tummy rub when he's feeling relaxed and confident. Albie has worked incredibly hard to build trust and confidence. He has learned to sit patiently and wait for his food and treats, and he would love a family who will continue his training and help him discover just how much the world has to offer. One of Albie's favourite things is spending time with his foster family's children. He loves to play chase games, gets excited when they come home from school, and enjoys being part of the family routine. While he's waiting for playtime, you'll often find him having fun with the resident dog or following their lead. Because of his gentle and sensitive nature, Albie is looking for a home with experienced owners who understand nervous dogs and are willing to give him the time, patience, and encouragement he needs. He absolutely thrives alongside other dogs and gains huge confidence from them, so a resident dog is essential for him. Albie is dog-friendly, cat-friendly, and has happily interacted with visiting dogs. He is submissive rather than dominant and simply wants to make friends and play. Although Albie has not yet ventured out on regular walks, he is ready to start exploring the world at his own pace. Initially, he would benefit from spending time in a secure enclosed area where he can build confidence outdoors safely. Albie's story could have been very different. Before coming into foster care, he was living in an overcrowded public shelter where every day was filled with fear and uncertainty. Watching him discover that life can be fun, safe, and full of love has been truly special. Now all that's missing is a forever family to continue that journey. ️ Could you be the person to give Albie the amazing future he's been waiting for? Albie's ideal home: Young child-free home Secure enclosed garden required Experience of nervous or fearful dogs Dog and cat friendly Resident dog(s) essential to help build his confidence In foster in Hampshire Albie really is a very special boy, and whoever adopts him will have the privilege of watching him continue to grow into the happy, confident dog he was always meant to be.

Since arriving in foster care, Annie has made lovely progress and is now showing her affectionate, playful side more and more. She adores her walks and is walking well on the lead. She is becoming increasingly comfortable with everyday sights and sounds, including traffic, and will happily greet other dogs and their humans with a polite sniff and a gentle tail wag. Annie is a bright little girl who is doing really well with her training. She is confident with “sit,” “down,” and “spin,” and is currently learning “wait” and “paw.” She is very food motivated and already shows excellent manners, sitting and waiting calmly for her meals and allowing gentle handling even while she is eating. One of the biggest changes in Annie’s progress has been her growing confidence with people and other animals. She is now enjoying the company of her foster dog sibling and loves to play with him—having another dog around has clearly helped her come out of her shell and feel more secure. She is also slowly building trust with her foster family’s 8-year-old son. Where she once kept her distance, she is now choosing to approach for gentle strokes. While she is still unsure when he runs around, she is continuing to learn and improve with time, patience, and calm experiences. Annie is also very respectful of the household rabbit, offering a gentle sniff before backing away when asked, showing her soft and responsive nature. At home, Annie is a calm and affectionate companion. She enjoys snuggling up on the sofa with both her humans and doggy friend and is very settled in the home environment. She now sleeps peacefully through the night in her crate, settling after a short period of whining, and is fully house trained—alerting when she needs to go outside. ️ Annie’s lovely qualities: Gentle, sweet-natured and affectionate Walking well on the lead House trained and reliable Crate trained and settling well overnight Great with other dogs (thrives with canine companionship) Cat/rabbit aware and respectful Loves cuddles and sofa time Very food motivated and eager to learn Ideal home for Annie: Calm, quiet household Patient adopters willing to continue her confidence building Another friendly resident dog preferred Gentle, dog-savvy children considered (calm interactions best) In foster in Portsmouth Annie is a truly lovely young dog who is still finding her feet in the world. Bonnie is an 18-month-old spayed Romanian rescue who is searching once again for her forever home after an adoption sadly didn't work out through no fault of her own. Bonnie has quickly reminded everyone just how much love, fun, and personality she has to offer. She is a vibrant, energetic young dog with a huge heart and an even bigger zest for life. Bonnie is the kind of dog who throws herself into everything with enthusiasm. Whether she's playing with her canine companions, exploring the garden, learning new things, or curling up for affection, she does it wholeheartedly. She has settled beautifully alongside her three foster dog siblings and absolutely thrives in the company of other dogs. They help provide structure, companionship, and opportunities for play, all of which Bonnie loves. Because of this, we feel she would be happiest in a home with another confident dog—or even two—who can show her the ropes and help maintain healthy boundaries. Bonnie is incredibly affectionate and forms strong bonds with her people very quickly. She adores human company, loves cuddles, and will happily soak up all the attention you can give her. However, she can become a little too attached and sometimes forget that she doesn't need to be in charge of everyone she loves. Her forever family will need to continue helping her understand boundaries and build confidence in sharing attention and relaxing independently. At just 18 months old, Bonnie is still very much a youngster and has plenty of learning ahead of her. The good news is that she is intelligent, eager to please, and highly food motivated, making training enjoyable and rewarding. She already knows "sit," her recall is progressing nicely, and she is keen to continue learning with the right guidance. Bonnie's highlights: Loves people and affection Thrives with other dogs Food motivated and eager to learn Recall training progressing well Can be left for up to 5 hours with canine company Cat friendly with sensible, dog-savvy cats Playful, fun, and full of personality Bonnie has not been crate trained in her current foster home and has settled well without one. She can live with cats, although she does enjoy following and sniffing them when she's feeling playful. Any resident cats should therefore be confident and accustomed to living with dogs. Because of her energy levels and ongoing training needs, Bonnie would do best with older children who can participate in her training, provide consistent boundaries, and understand when she needs time to settle and calm down. Bonnie's ideal home: Another confident resident dog (or dogs) Active family committed to ongoing training Older, dog-savvy children considered Consistent boundaries and leadership Plenty of affection, companionship, and enrichment In foster in Hampshire Bonnie has so much potential and so much love to give. She is affectionate, clever, entertaining, and endlessly loyal. What she needs now is a family who will embrace her exuberant personality, continue her training, and give her the stability she deserves. Could you be the one to give Bonnie the forever home she has been waiting for?

Over the past few months, she has slowly started to come out of her shell and is beginning to show the playful, affectionate little girl who was hidden underneath her fear. Every small step forward has been a huge achievement for her, and she is now starting to understand that she doesn’t need to be afraid. Her confidence is growing day by day, and it is a real joy to watch her blossom. Hector is a 14 month-old neutered Collie cross who has already overcome more in his short life than most dogs ever should. Vaccinated, blood tested, and microchipped, he is now safe, healthy, and ready to find the forever home he truly deserves. Hector was found alone on the streets of Bosnia, suffering from painful superficial injuries to his front paws. No one knows exactly what happened to him, but what is clear is that he needed time, care, and patience to heal—both physically and emotionally. Thankfully, no surgery was needed, and this incredibly brave boy made a full recovery. And what a transformation he has made. When Hector first arrived in foster care, he was timid and unsure of the world. Today, he is a completely different dog. His confidence has blossomed, and his personality is beginning to shine through in the most heart-warming ways. He is now a loving, playful boy who has truly discovered the comfort of home life. He proudly claims the sofa, enjoys the company of everyone in the house, and has even developed a very endearing habit of hiding little treasures in his bed—though he never chews them! Hector’s progress and personality: Confident and affectionate in the home Loves men, women, and children aged 8+ Now comfortable around cats and other dogs House trained and well-mannered indoors Sleeps happily on his own Can be left for up to 3 hours after exercise Very food motivated and eager to learn Barely barks (may whine briefly then settles) Hector is still learning about the world outside the home. On walks, he can occasionally pull, but he responds well to gentle correction and is very keen to please. At times, he may pause or freeze when something feels overwhelming, and he still finds loud or sudden noises a little scary—but he is improving all the time with patient guidance. He is a bright, sensitive boy who thrives on reassurance and consistency. Like many young dogs with a difficult start, he is still working through some puppy behaviours such as excitement mouthing, but this is improving as he learns appropriate ways to interact. Hector is currently fostered in Horton Heath, Southampton, where he has shown just how far love and stability can take him. Ideal home for Hector: Patient, calm adopters who understand sensitive dogs Someone around for much of the day (or a “companion” lifestyle home) Secure garden for safe exploration and sniffing Continued positive training and confidence building Hector could happily live with cats and other dogs, having grown in confidence alongside both. This beautiful boy is now ready for the next chapter of his life—not survival, but belonging. He doesn’t need perfection; he just needs patience, kindness, and a safe place to continue becoming the dog he was always meant to be. Could you be Hector’s safe person—the one who finally shows him what forever really feels like?

Juno

Age7 months
BreedUnknown

Juno is a 7-month-old mixed breed puppy who is likely to grow into a medium–large sized adult. He is currently in foster care in Southampton, where he is slowly learning that the world can be a safe and happy place. Juno’s journey has not been the easiest start in life. He has already experienced a lot of change in a very short time, arriving into his current foster home just 24 hours after leaving kennels and becoming his second foster placement in as many days. Unsurprisingly, he was very unsure of people at first and found comfort only in the presence of the resident dog, who quickly became his emotional support and guide. Over time, Juno has begun to settle and build trust. He is still a timid boy, but when he has another confident dog by his side, his personality really starts to shine through. Because of this, Juno will need to be rehomed with a calm, confident resident dog who can continue to help guide him as he grows. He is now beginning to seek affection from his trusted humans, happily enjoying gentle ear rubs and bum scratches, and is slowly learning that hands can mean comfort rather than worry. He is also choosing to spend more time around people and will often relax nearby, taking in the rhythms of home life. Juno enjoys having access to a crate as a safe space and will happily go in and out as he pleases. He is not yet comfortable with the door being closed, so this will need to be continued at his pace. At night, he alternates between the crate and a bed in the living room and is clean, settled, and non-destructive. Out on walks, Juno enjoys exploring the woods and loves being with his foster dog companion and the local “pack” of friendly dogs and people who are helping him build confidence. He is still nervous of vehicles passing on the short road walk to the woods, but he is improving every day and gaining courage with each outing. Once in a calmer environment, he walks well alongside his canine friend. Juno is a playful, sweet-natured puppy at heart. He enjoys tumbling and playing with his foster dog sibling and is beginning to explore toys, although he is still figuring out that they are for playing with rather than just chewing. He will occasionally entertain himself with a ball and is showing more curiosity and cheeky puppy energy as he relaxes. At home, he is generally calm and gentle, with short bursts of typical puppy silliness. He is a lovely mix of quiet observer and playful youngster, and his personality is continuing to blossom week by week. Juno’s lovely qualities: Dog friendly (must live with a confident resident dog) House trained and settled indoors Enjoys walks in quieter environments Crate comfortable as a safe space (door not yet closed) Beginning to seek affection and trust humans Playful and growing in confidence daily Cats: Juno does bark at cats within the home and is not currently calm enough to live with them, although outside he has largely ignored neighbouring cats. Out and about:He is still nervous of traffic and passing vehicles but is improving steadily with gentle exposure and support. Home requirements: Must live with another confident, friendly dog Calm, patient home willing to continue his confidence building Understanding of nervous young dogs Secure, low-pressure environment In foster in Southampton Juno is a gentle, sensitive young boy who has already come a long way in a short space of time. With the right home, steady reassurance, and the support of another dog, he is expected to continue growing into a happy, confident companion. Could you be the one to give Juno the stability, patience, and love he needs to truly thrive?

Latte (Tay) is still waiting... After nearly 18 months in UK foster care, this beautiful boy is still hoping that somewhere out there, his perfect family is looking for him too. Originally from Spain, Latte is an 8-year-old Pointer with the sweetest nature and the biggest heart. Despite a difficult start in life, he has embraced the comforts of home and become an absolute joy to live with. Yet somehow, he continues to be overlooked. Anyone who knows Pointers knows they are often called "velcro dogs"—and Tay is the perfect example. His favourite place is wherever his people are. Whether he's following you from room to room, resting his head on your lap, or rushing in for his treasured morning cuddles, he simply wants to be close to the people he loves. His foster family describe him as a truly special boy. Every morning starts with a happy greeting and cuddles, and every day is made brighter by his gentle, affectionate nature. Tay loves his walks and enjoys an active lifestyle. He would thrive in a rural or semi-rural home where he can enjoy exploring with his family. One longer walk or a couple of shorter walks each day suits him perfectly. Due to his strong prey drive, he currently walks on a long line or enjoys secure field adventures, so his forever family will need to be mindful of this. Experience with Pointers or other hunting and working breeds would be a huge advantage. Over the past 18 months, Tay has made incredible progress. He is now fully settled into home life, house-trained, and can happily spend a couple of hours alone once he's had a good walk and meal. Like many Pointers, though, he much prefers company and will need any alone time built up gradually in his forever home. House-trained and settled in a home environment Fantastic food motivation and great engagement outdoors Incredibly loving, affectionate and cuddly Can be left for a few hours after exercise and food Gets on wonderfully with other dogs Microchipped, vaccinated, flea and worm treated Clear blood work completed Tay is looking for a family who will appreciate everything that makes him special—a loyal companion, an adventure buddy, and a devoted best friend who will love you with his whole heart. No cats, birds, rabbits, or small furries due to his high prey drive No resident children under 7 years old. Tay has a fantastic temperament, but he is opportunistic around food, and we want to ensure a safe environment for everyone. Currently in foster in Southampton It breaks our hearts that this wonderful boy has spent so long waiting. He has done everything asked of him, embraced family life, and shown just how much love he has to give. Now he just needs someone to choose him. Could you be the family that finally gives Latte the forever home he deserves?

Luke is an 11-month-old young boy who is full of life, enthusiasm, and potential, and he is now looking for a committed, active home to help him continue growing into the amazing adult dog he is becoming. Still very much a puppy at heart, Luke is bright, excitable, and eager to learn. He is currently in foster care in Fareham, Hampshire, where he is gaining confidence every day and discovering the world around him at his own pace. Luke is a very affectionate boy once he knows you. He enjoys cuddles, loves his food, and is happiest when he has something to do or someone to be with. He forms strong bonds with his people, but he does need time and patience to build trust with new faces. Visitors to the home can make him a little unsure at first, so his crate provides him with a safe space to settle and feel secure while he adjusts. He is fully crate trained and settles beautifully, happily sleeping through the night and coping well with being left for up to around three hours. With structure and reassurance, he will continue to build confidence in being left for short periods. Luke would suit an active home that can provide him with both mental and physical stimulation. He would prefer to be the only dog in the home, as he enjoys having his people to himself, but he would still benefit from having friendly dog interactions and ongoing socialisation with other dogs outside the home. Because he is a bouncy, energetic young dog, Luke would be best suited to a home with older teenagers rather than young children. Luke’s lovely qualities: Walks beautifully on lead Travels well in the car Happy to be brushed and handled Loves food and natural chews Very affectionate once bonded Enjoys learning and training Luke is already showing how intelligent and willing he is. He knows sit, paw, down, wait, and touch, and his recall is coming on nicely. His strong food motivation makes training both fun and rewarding, and he is the kind of dog who will thrive in a home that continues to teach him new skills. He would particularly enjoy training classes, enrichment activities, and possibly scent work, as he loves using his nose and engaging his brain. Luke is still learning about the world, but every day he is becoming more confident and settled. With the right guidance, patience, and love, he has all the potential to grow into a truly wonderful companion. Home requirements: Older teenagers only (no young children) Someone around for much of the day initially Active home committed to ongoing training and enrichment In foster in Fareham, Hampshire Luke is a special young dog who just needs someone to give him the time and understanding he deserves. We are looking for a special foster home or even better a forever home for our lovely Marnie. Must be local to Southampton to do a few meets. Marnie is an amazing girl who we all adore. Marnie was brought to the UK as a puppy more than 5 yrs ago and adopted and then was sadly surrendered back to the rescue nearly 2yrs ago and has been in kennels ever since. Marnie is coming up for 6 yrs old, has spent a third of her life in kennels and deserves better. Marnie was labelled as "dog aggressive" which is most definitely not the case, having spent a long time in private boarding kennels not mixing with other dogs at all; since spending time with us at our own kennels; she spends hours daily playing, socialising and taking walks with lots of different dogs mainly male dogs. She can be very choosy who she likes when it comes to female dogs and she's not keen on puppies jumping all over her but most older dogs are acceptable for this mature lady. Now Marnie is the most loving dog you'll ever meet once she knows you and trusts you. She is particularly fond of women and although she takes treats from men when she gets to know them she can still be visibly worried about men so for this reason we feel a female only home would suit Marnie. Because of her anxieties around strangers/particularly men she needs a home where if her female handler has visitors then she simply goes away in her safe space. Its really not hard to manage if people are sensible. Marnie will give a women companionship for life, she will adore you. Marnie is 100 percent housetrained, walks beautifully on a lead (prefers quieter walks, no built up, busy areas) and will keep you company on the sofa all day long if allowed. Marnie is a very special dog who just needs the right person to give her a chance. We would keep her at our kennels forever as we all love her and she us but she deserves her own nice warm home and cosy bed where someone will understand her, love her with her quirks and keep her safe. A couple of walks a day, nice food and lots of love and Marnie will be forever yours There must be the perfect female only home out there for our special girl. We want this super little lady out of kennels. Marnie can be an only dog for sure but we do want her to continue socialising with other dogs as this has really helped her.

Oliver

If you're looking for a fun-loving, affectionate puppy who will keep you smiling every day, then Oliver might just be the perfect match. At just 6 months old, Oliver is a sweet, lively boy with a huge personality and an even bigger heart. He absolutely loves people and is never happier than when he's snuggled up for a cuddle with his favourite humans. Like any young puppy, Oliver is still learning about the world, but he is proving to be a clever and eager student. Since arriving in foster care, he has made fantastic progress with his house training and is beginning to understand the routines of home life. With regular trips into the garden, he has had just one indoor accident over the last couple of days and keeps his crate clean and dry overnight. Oliver is also doing brilliantly with his crate training. He may have a brief grumble when first settling, but he now sleeps through the night and can happily spend up to two hours in his crate during the day. This handsome youngster loves learning new things and enjoys training sessions, especially when treats are involved! He already knows "sit" and "paw," is mastering "lay" and "spin," and is working hard on "wait" and "off." His enthusiasm for food makes him a pleasure to train and gives him huge potential for continued learning. Oliver's highlights: Affectionate and loves cuddles Crate training progressing beautifully House training coming along very well Clever and eager to learn Food motivated and enjoys training No signs of food aggression Loves walks and adventures Friendly, playful, and full of character Oliver has shown excellent manners around food. He happily sits and waits for his meals and is comfortable being touched while eating. He has even tolerated another foster puppy attempting to steal his dinner without any signs of resource guarding. Being a six-month-old puppy, Oliver is currently teething and still learning appropriate ways to interact. He can sometimes mouth quite hard when excited and is working on learning to be gentle. Like many puppies his age, he can occasionally become overexcited and forget his manners, so ongoing training and consistency will be important. Out and about, Oliver loves his walks and is growing more confident around traffic, people, and everyday noises. He can be vocal when people walk past and can be strong on the lead at times, but he is already learning to stop, sit, and wait calmly. With continued guidance, he is expected to make great progress. Oliver is currently fostered with an 8-year-old child and, while he is affectionate, he can be a little too enthusiastic. He sees children very much as playmates and can bark, jump up, and mouth when excited. For this reason, we feel he would be best suited to a home with dog-savvy children aged 12+ who understand puppy behaviour and can interact appropriately while his training continues. Oliver's ideal home: Active family committed to ongoing puppy training Plenty of exercise, enrichment, and companionship Dog-savvy children aged 12+ Consistent boundaries and positive reinforcement In foster in Portsmouth Oliver is everything you would expect from a young puppy—fun, affectionate, intelligent, occasionally cheeky, and full of potential. With continued training, patience, and love, he is going to grow into a wonderful and loyal family companion. Could you be the family to guide Oliver through the rest of his puppyhood and give him the forever home he deserves?

Otis is a 6-month-old puppy with the gentlest soul and the sweetest nature. Since arriving in foster care, he has been an absolute little diamond, and his foster family know they are going to miss him enormously when he finds his forever home. Whoever adopts Otis will be gaining a truly special boy. While Otis can be a little reserved when he first meets new people, once he has built trust, his affectionate side shines through. He adores the comforts of home and has discovered that one of life's greatest pleasures is curling up on the sofa beside his favourite humans. He loves resting his head on your lap and drifting off to sleep, content simply to be close to you. Every day, Otis grows a little more confident and a little more relaxed, and it has been wonderful to watch him begin to enjoy the love and security of family life. Otis' wonderful qualities: Affectionate once bonded Crate trained and sleeps beautifully overnight Clean and tidy in his crate Can be left for a few hours without issue Gentle and calm around children Dog friendly and social No food aggression or guarding behaviours Loves cuddles, toys, and home comforts Otis settles beautifully at bedtime with very little fuss and keeps his crate spotless. He has also been left alone for a few hours and has shown just how well he copes, remaining calm, relaxed, and content. He has been living alongside two children aged 5 and 10 and has been wonderful with them. The children respect his space, and in return, Otis happily approaches them for gentle fuss and will gladly accept treats from their hands. His calm, thoughtful nature makes him a lovely companion for respectful children. Like any young puppy, Otis enjoys playtime. He loves his toys, although his current favourite "toy" is an empty milk bottle! Once he's had a little fun and burned off some energy, he's happiest curled up on the sofa for cuddles and a nap. Otis also gets on brilliantly with the resident dogs in his foster home and has shown no signs of aggression towards dogs or people. He is relaxed around food and happily allows handling while eating, demonstrating his easy-going temperament. Training is still very much a work in progress, as Otis is only six months old.
