About Animal Rescue Charity

Animal Rescue Charity was founded in 1991 by Jan and Fiona Rose, a mother and daughter who began by taking in stray animals from a neighbouring police station before growing into what is now known as “the small charity with a big heart.” Established to provide a safe haven for neglected, abandoned and unwanted animals—including wildlife—the charity focuses on sanctuary, rehabilitation and compassionate care. Its ethos centres on treating every animal with respect, overcoming past suffering through kindness, and being a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves. Through structured rehabilitation and ongoing support, the charity ensures each animal leaves ready to thrive in a safe and loving environment.

BreedLurcher

Astra is a 3.5 year old male lurcher. He is very kind natured and walks really well on the lead but as expected due to the breed has a very high prey drive. Astra is a lovely dog! Thanks for clicking on my profile. I have now been matched with a loving family and I’m looking forward to settling in at my new home. However, many of my friends still need adopting. Can you offer them the love and devotion they deserve?Astra was found by the dog warden and brought into ARC as a stray. Unfortunately we don’t have any other history for Asta but he has a wonderful temperment and is a really kind hearted dog. Astra walks well on the lead but can pull if he sees something he wants to chase like a bird, rabbit, cat or squirrel. Astra seems to be good with other dogs but as he has only recently arrived at ARC he is still under assessment to see whether he could potentially live with another dog.I will receive initial health checks, up-to-date vaccinations, neutering/spaying (if age/timing is appropriate), flea treatment, worming treatment, microchipping and essential vet care that occurs during my stay.

Axel is a cross between a Pomeranian and a Chihuahua – often called a Pomchi. He becomes very attached to his owners. Thanks for clicking on my profile. I have now been matched with a loving family and I’m looking forward to settling in at my new home. However, many of my friends still need adopting. Can you offer them the love and devotion they deserve?Axel is a new arrival at ARC. He has previously had some guarding issues over his male owner because he felt so attached to him.Axel has no food aggression. He likes bones and to play with ball toys, but destroys soft toys and cuddlies. We think that Axel would suit a quieter more mature household, perhaps a retired couple, where he would get as much attention and love as he deserves. To enquire please call 01279 501547.I will receive initial health checks, up-to-date vaccinations, neutering/spaying (if age/timing is appropriate), flea treatment, worming treatment, microchipping and essential vet care that occurs during my stay.

Chilli is a big friendly boy that gets along with everyone. He just doesnt realise how big he is when he jumps up for a cuddleThanks for clicking on my profile. I have now been matched with a loving family and I’m looking forward to settling in at my new home. However, many of my friends still need adopting. Can you offer them the love and devotion they deserve?Hi, I’m Chilli. I was taken to the ARC for rehoming as my little human brother has a health condition that meant me wanting to play with him could accidentally hurt him. I’m very friendly and am strong on the lead, but i just want love and attention. I enjoy carrying around and tugging rope toys, playing with balls, and am very interested in other dogs. I have lived with children, but bigger ones would be better as i don’t know how big i am when i jump in for a cuddle. I’m currently 40kg and may grow to 50 but currently am the size of black lab. As I’m still a puppy i could do with ongoing training but I’ve had some already I would love to go to a family with lots of time for me. If that family is you then please call on 01279501547 to book an appointmentI will receive initial health checks, up-to-date vaccinations, neutering/spaying (if age/timing is appropriate), flea treatment, worming treatment, microchipping and essential vet care that occurs during my stay.

Marnie is a beautiful olde tyme bulldog looking for a loving home with lots of time and cuddlesThanks for clicking on my profile. I have now been matched with a loving family and I’m looking forward to settling in at my new home. However, many of my friends still need adopting. She can be a bit stubborn sometimes but is a big cuddle bug. She is used to eating anything anyone gives her, but ideally will be kept on a purely doggy diet, even if it takes some getting used to. Pebble

Hertfordshire

BreedLurcher

Pebble is a one year old lurcher who was found stray. She is a bouncy girl and full of energy and would need to be the only dog in the home. We can’t believe that she used to be shyThanks for clicking on my profile. I have now been matched with a loving family and I’m looking forward to settling in at my new home. However, many of my friends still need adopting. Can you offer them the love and devotion they deserve?Pebble arrived in a state as a stray and after some TLC has learned to love again. She is just over one year old and is a staff and volunteer favourite. She is gentle and walks well with other dogs but can get quite excitable too and very limby. She loves to say hello to everyone she knows when she walks past with a head lean and a cuddle. It’s hard to believe it when you see her daily, but she can be wary of new people at first, especially men, although she warms up to them very quickly. Pebble walks well with other dogs, but can not live with small animals/cats at all. Pebble is really sweet, and we think she would make a great companion for the right home with just some time for a run around (on lead or in an enclosed field) and somewhere to lay down for the rest of the day.To enquire, please call 01279 501547.I will receive initial health checks, up-to-date vaccinations, neutering/spaying (if age/timing is appropriate), flea treatment, worming treatment, microchipping and essential vet care that occurs during my stay.

I’m a very cuddly and loving boy, that loves to run around and chase balls (but i won’t bring it back to you), and play with tug toys. I don’t like to be left alone for too long, but will happily have some space whilst sleeping. I get along with some dogs, but not all, and cats are a bit scary. I have lived with children, but older ones are definitely better as i can be a bit much sometimes. Stan

I’m a mature Lurcher cross and am looking for a new home. I am the longest staying resident and have been staying at ARC for over 10 years now. Please read my profile below to find out more. Thanks for clicking on my profile. I have now been matched with a loving family and I’m looking forward to settling in at my new home. However, many of my friends still need adopting. Can you offer them the love and devotion they deserve?Hi I’m Stan. I am the longest staying resident and have been staying at ARC for over 10 years now. I am a very smart and clean dog and very loyal to the people I trust. I sometimes snap at people I don’t know, so it sometimes puts people off getting to know me. However once I am comfortable I love a little fuss and to go on long walks. It’s important I have my own space as I do like to have somewhere I can be left alone. A house with an outdoor kennel or separate room just for me would be ideal. Anyone who is interested in me would have to meet my walkers and gain my trust. But I am definitely worth it!I will receive initial health checks, up-to-date vaccinations, neutering/spaying (if age/timing is appropriate), flea treatment, worming treatment, microchipping and essential vet care that occurs during my stay.

Sugar is a gentle giant who loves to play with balls, sunbathe, and play fetch. She also enjoys belly rubs. She came from another rescue, where she had been in kennels for 2.5 years. She has just arrived with us, so we are still assessing her. Thanks for clicking on my profile. I have now been matched with a loving family and I’m looking forward to settling in at my new home. However, many of my friends still need adopting. Can you offer them the love and devotion they deserve?Sugar loves going for walks and knows some basic commands, such as sit and paw. She is a big girl but walks really well on the lead, although she would need a strong owner just in case she decided to charge. Sugar is very gentle — the bigger the dog, the bigger the heart. She came to ARC from another kennel, where she lived for 2.5 years, and we would love to find her a home where she can feel confident to explore and play.
