Ashbourne Animal Welfare was established in 1988 after a group of local animal lovers came together to form a dedicated rescue organisation for animals in need. Initially relying on foster homes, fundraising events, and community support, the charity steadily grew as more animals required care. In 2001, Ashbourne Animal Welfare realised its long-term ambition of opening a purpose-built rescue and rehoming centre known as The Ark, providing improved facilities for cats and dogs. Today, the charity has a strong local supporter base and a long track record of rescuing, caring for, and rehoming thousands of animals, all driven by a continued commitment to welfare, compassion, and community involvement.

Casper is a very striking looking boy who came to us for rehoming as the home he was living in wasnāt meeting his needs, a kind person was helping his owner find Casper a new home.Heās only 9 months old, so hes a big puppy with lots of energy and enthusiasm! He loves people and is always happy to say hello! Heās lived with children, and could go to a home with children over 5yrs. Casper is very affectionate, but he is still young and can be boisterous!Heās lived with other dogs, and had met others dogs whilst with us⦠he could probably share his home with other dogs again, preferably a spayed female. Heās not used to cats.Casper is said to be okay being left, but as heās young it wouldnāt be be fair to leave him for long periods. He has been crated in the past, but was spending up to 20+ hours a day in the crate, so may have negative associations with them. Heās had very little training, and will more than likely need to start from the beginning again. As heās a youngster, heās got lots of energy and needs plenty of exercise in his new home, as well as mental stimulation to keep his mind busy!

Logan is a very handsome English Pointer who originally came to us for rehoming due to his previous owners not being able to meet his needs ā he wasnāt getting walked regularly etc. We did rehome him, but sadly he has been returned due to the adopters (and their older dog) not being able to cope with his energy levels.Logan is a typical young Pointer ā he loves to get out and about on his walks⦠particularly racing around in our exercise compounds! Although his recall does need a little more work!! He does have the desire to chase birds etc, so he would need a home without other pets/poultry!Logan has been around children, and never been an issue⦠he could live with children over 5yrs; but any children in the home would need to be dog-savvy as he can be quite boisterous. Heās okay with other dogs and could possibly share his home with a canine companion depending on a dog meeting. He would chase cats.He has had some basic training, but would definitely benefit from some further education as well as a little more socialisation. He would be great in an active home with people who understand his breeds needs.Logans previous adopters said that he was a loving boy, but lacked boundaries. Heās full of energy and needs a home that can keep up with him! He has been used to long walks, and has been off of the lead ā however he does run and run until heās out of sight, so this would need more work. He can be destructive with objects, like cushions and things that he considers to be toys⦠but has always been fine with furniture. He has been left for up to 4hrs, with no issues.

Loki is a very handsome Husky who came to us for rehoming through no fault of his own⦠sadly since getting him as a puppy, his previous owners circumstances changed meaning that Loki was being left alone for up to 12hrs a day! Unfortunately the cartoons on the TV werenāt cutting it, so he became destructive and vocal.Loki is very friendly and affectionate with people⦠he loves life and likes to be on the go! Heās sociable with everybody he meets and has spent time with children ā he can be boisterous though, so any children in the new home would need to be used to dogs.He seems friendly with other dogs ā although he is vocal when he sees other dogs on his walks, we believe this is excitement and heās desperate to go and say hi! He could share his home with a spayed female companion, this would depend on a dog meeting. Loki will chase cats and other small animals, so will need a home without any of these! As heās a Husky, Loki will need a lot of exercise and mental stimulation⦠heās a breed that was designed for working, so heās not going to be a couch potato content with a quick walk around the block! His recall is poor (typical for a Husky), so off lead time would need to be in a secure garden or a secure dog exercise paddock.Obviously he isnāt a fan of being left alone, although his previous owner reported that he was good at being left for 3hrs initially. We would recommend time alone being built up over time, so he seeās it as a positive experience.

Marley is a handsome older gentleman who was originally adopted from us 9yrs ago, sadly he has been returned due to his adopter moving out of the family home and the rest of the family not being able to look after him and give him the attention he needs.Marley is very friendly, he loves people and is always happy to say hello to people! He would be a lovely companion, and doesnāt ask for much!Unfortunately Marley can be reactive to other dogs, and would need to be the only dog in the home. He can be strong on the lead, so please take this into consideration when enquiring. Heās also reactive to cats, and would be better in a pet free home.
