About Cheadle Animal Welfare

Cheadle & District Animal Welfare Society is a volunteer-run animal welfare charity established in 1968 to support stray and abandoned dogs and cats across Cheadle, Staffordshire, and the Staffordshire Moorlands. Operated entirely by a small team of dedicated volunteers, the charity also assists animals made homeless due to illness or bereavement within families. Every animal taken into care receives any necessary veterinary treatment, with welfare placed firmly at the centre of the charity’s work. The Society is committed to ensuring that no healthy animal is euthanised and works to find safe, suitable homes wherever possible.

Age5 years
BreedBorder Collie x West Highland White Terrier

Duke has had a few years of upheaval through no fault of his own. He has been flourishing in his current home but sadly now needs to find another home.He needs a calm and understanding home with someone who has experience of collies and their natural traits so he can feel safe. He is nervous around loud noises and does not like other dogs. A pet free and child free home is best for him, so that children do not accidently frighten him. A fully secure garden for him to play in is required. He is a happy dog and loves to play with his toys. Like all collies he is intelligent and loves his exercise and playtime so his mind can be stimulated. He walks well but will pull towards his favourite walking field as he gets close! He is looking to become a wonderful, faithful companion to someone who will give him the time, activity and stability he deserves. We are helping his current owner to find him the perfect new home.

Jack is urgently looking for a new home due to his beloved owners’ going into a nursing home. He is a much loved little dog who, despite his age is used to 2 walks a day. He is used to having someone around all of the time. The photos were taken about 5 years ago so he is a little greyer now! We will update with latest photos soon. The offer of a foster home would also be welcomed. Jax, a 5 years old male French Bulldog available for adoption from Cheadle Animal Welfare in Derbyshire

Age5 years
BreedFrench Bulldog

Handsome Jax is looking for a new home where there are no young children at home or visiting regularly. Unfortunately he is really anxious and stressed around his owners’ 3 year old granddaughter who now spends a lot of time in his home and it is becoming too much for him and for them too now sadly. They have tried calming products and even vet medicines but with no success at easing his stress, so he really needs to find a calmer home situation. With adults he just wants a fuss to be made of him, lots of strokes and tummy rubs! He may bark initially at new visitors but then just plays with his toys or get into his bed..unless he gets a fuss from them!He did grow up around a relatives English Bulldog and was fine. He has also been around their son’s Spaniel. If introduced properly to another dog he is fine but can react to strange dogs. He walks nicely but does sometimes react to other strange dogs he passes. A treat does usually distract him though. He has been into work with his owner at times where there are quite a few other dogs, some he is fine with, others not….it does depend how he feels that day it seems! He travels well in a car. He has also been to the dog groomer at times for baths and has coped with those situations. He is up to date with his vaccinations, deflea and wormer treatments. His owners want to find him a loving home which will meet all his needs and which avoids some of the above stressful situations, so he can relax and become a wonderful companion. He will thrive again where he gets all the attention.

Teddy is a gorgeous Yorkshire Terrier puppy who is only looking for a new home because his owner’s working hours have changed dramatically meaning he needs to be left alone far too long.He loves to play and have fun with you. He is used to young children at home and is living with another dog at present too. He needs a new home with active owners or a family who will continue his training, not leave him alone much at all and enjoy nice walks with him and plenty of playtimes. He isn’t wanting to be just a lap dog, he wants activity! His owner is very reluctantly seeking a new home for him, so it really must be perfect for this little boy. It should also have a nice enclosed garden for him to enjoy with you. He will need to have his hair cut regularly at the groomers too.If you feel you can meet all his requirements please email cheadleanimalwelfare@hotmail.co.uk with your details or ring 07731 616 025. Wilf, a 4 years old male Cavalier King Charles Spaniel X Poodle available for adoption from Cheadle Animal Welfare in Derbyshire

BreedCavalier King Charles Spaniel X Poodle

We are helping Wilf’s owner to find him a wonderful new home. He currently spends time with his ‘Mum’ and ‘Grandma’. As you will see from his notes below he isn’t adjusting well to having a toddler around so very reluctantly in his best interests so not to be passed back and forth they feel he deserves more stability. This is what they (or rather Wilf) say about him;I’m an adorable 4-year-old Male Cavapoo looking for a new home. Unfortunately, I am not adjusting well to my human’s baby daughter, and this is making me anxious. Therefore, it is with heavy heart that my humans have decided I need a new forever home to get the love and attention I deserve. I am looking for a new adult only home. I am fine with older visiting grandchildren so if children over 10 ‘sh do visit who are calm and used to dogs I would flourish in this type of calmer home.I love people and will always make sure to give you a fuss. I show affection by jumping, and showering people with lots of licks and kisses (on the face too!) and I will often fetch my favourite toy (Wubba) so we can play together. I can be a little excitable, but I soon calm down with people I know. I love nothing more than a cuddle and being snuggled up on the sofa after a hard day’s work sniffing on walks!I am crate trained and enjoy sleeping here over night with my Wubba and cuddly toys.I am very loyal and love lots & lots of attention and company. I love to follow my humans around and will make a special friend to someone. Because I prefer to be around people, I think I would be better suited to a recently retired, active couple or someone, (preferably a lady) on their own who has back up support if ever needed, or who works from home I would feel more relaxed and settled and enjoy the company I crave for all the time.I travel extremely well in the car, and especially like sitting up front, so please take me with you on your day trips out. I can only be walked on a leash, as I am so scent orientated, if I catch a smell I like I may not come back, however I love my long line lead which gives me lots of freedom to explore. I can pull on the lead when visiting new places, but this settles once I’ve climatised to my surroundings.I am happy to say hello to other dogs when out walking however I can be a little unsure of bigger dogs. I will be better placed in a household where I am the only pet.’I’m microchipped and neutered and up to date with my vaccines and flea & wormer medication. If you feel you can provide the perfect home for Wilf please ring Cheadle Animal Welfare on 07731 616 025 or email us at cheadleanimalwelfare@hotmail.co.uk giving your full name, address and a few details so we can get in touch to discuss Wilf with you.
