About DAWGS

DAWGS is a volunteer-founded dog rehoming charity established in 1994 with a clear mission of “rehoming with love.” Originally formed to support a local vet struggling to find homes for stray dogs, the charity began by advertising dogs and carrying out home checks to ensure responsible, long-term placements. As demand grew, DAWGS expanded into kennels and later developed a network of foster homes, widening its reach across the country. Today, the charity continues to be driven by its volunteers, combining hands-on support, careful rehoming, and community fundraising to give dogs a second chance at a happy life.

Basil, a 6 years old male Unknown available for adoption from DAWGS in Scotland

DAWGS

Basil

Scotland
SexMale
Age6 years
BreedUnknown

Beautiful boy Basil is looking for his forever home.Basil can be timid to begin with and does tend to bark when he meets a new person. He will come around eventually but would need someone who can be patient and allow him to take the time he needs to feel comfortable around them.Once he knows you, he is friendly and affectionate and he loves company. Basil can be intimidated by other dogs when out on walks but he could potentially live with another dog of similar size after a successful meeting. With his timidness and due to the fact he has lived a fairly sheltered life, we would be looking for an adult only home. Or one with a quieter lifestyle. He would suit a retired home where he would be the center of attention. Breed experience would be beneficial too.Basil is crate trained and loves outings in the car.He could be rehomed with his brother Winston or on his own.If you feel you could offer Winston the loving home he deserves please contact the office directly on 01224 208989 or click on “Request to adopt Basil now”.

Beautiful soul Breck is looking for his new, forever person.Unfortunately Breck was found abandoned. He had been dumped out in the street alone and unwanted. We at DAWGS do not usually deal with strays but felt we had to offer this old lad a chance at a happily ever after. He has been in foster now for 10 months and thriving! Whilst here he has been found to be super friendly, loves a cuddle and loves to lean against your leg for comfort.Breck is a very sweet natured dog. He has lived with a dog previously but can be dominant in the house so we would prefer him to be an only dog . He has no experience living with children and does not like cats.He is good on the lead and is happy being left for short periods of time. Now he just needs his own nice warm sofa to cuddle up on.If you feel you could offer Breck his happily ever after please contact the office directly on 01224 208989 or click on “Request to adopt Breck now”.

Caleb, a 1 year old male Hungarian Vizsla available for adoption from DAWGS in Scotland

DAWGS

Caleb

Scotland
SexMale
Age1 year
BreedHungarian Vizsla

Gorgeous lad Caleb is looking for a very special someone.Caleb is a happy boy, he has a sweet quirky nature. As he has neurological issues, he’s a bit like a cheeky school boy.His behaviour is driven by what’s going on with him. He’s really good at playing by himself but does like to play with his doggy friends. He can be very suspicious of new things , people or dogs and scares easily. He will bark at these things. He loves to run and more often than not will run in clockwise circles. He does have some resource guarding issues with food/ high value i.e bones, towards other dogs, but is intermittent with it.He can find training stressful and will disengage completely.Caleb has brain damage and may not see properly in one eye, he is not 100% stable on his feet, and his view of the world is different from other dogs due to brain damage. He is also stunted in growth, being a lot smaller than he should be for his breed, he’s fed 3 x to keep weight on.He has never been left on his own, he always has the company of other dogs. He steals stuff but waits until you are not in the room or your back is turned, he gives up easily enough. He does not chew.He may look like he’s ‘normal’ but his behaviour can sometimes be a bit out there, but non aggressive, just quirky.Toilet training is ongoing, he will ask to get out to have a bowel movement but to urinate, not quite there, he will go to the door and circle and if you’re not quick enough he will urinate whilst walking. He has to be let out numerous times before he will do something. If you feel you are the special someone that could offer Caleb the loving home he deserves please contact the office directly on 01224 208989 or click on “Request to adopt Caleb now”.

Beautiful big girl Harley is looking for her forever person.Harley is a very friendly, loyal and loving dog.She loves to play especially with the ball but also likes a soft toy. It may last a few weeks before getting destuffed!Harley loves going for walks, especially off lead in an enclosed area. She does pull on the lead when excited. She has never lived with another dog and we think she would be best as an only dog.We feel a large enclosed garden in a semi rural area would suit her best, where she can chill out and enjoy the sun.Due to her energy levels and her size, an adult only home or a home with older, dog savvy children would be ideal. She likes travelling in the car and is happy being left for around 4 hours. Skye, a 4 years old female Border Collie available for adoption from DAWGS in Scotland

DAWGS

Skye

Scotland
SexFemale
Age4 years
BreedBorder Collie

Beautiful lady Skye is looking for a very special someone to offer her the best home.Within the house Skye is a very playful loving dog, but does not like new people coming into the house. She will bark and will not approach them. With people she trusts, she likes to be close to you and will even follow you to the toilet. Although not an overly affectionate dog she does like company.Skye can react to the microwave door, oven door, tumble dryer door and TV (football game being on for example) by spinning around and getting worked up.If someone takes Skye on when out she will react towards them barking with occasional lunge and then will step back. Pulling her into heel position helps counteract this. When someone walks towards her, it’s best to act before Skye has a chance to react (by moving Skye to the other side of the body and with her being told to sit and wait).Skye is anxious of loud noises (for example, fireworks, household drills, etc), She can get a fear of larger objects if she’s not sure what they are (for example a large shopping bag sitting on the table if she hasn’t seen you put this down). She likes to suss things out and feel comfortable in her surroundings. She has a good recall when in an open area with no distractions.Skye loves playing ‘find the toy #(if you hide a toy and say “where’s cookie for example) – she knows her toys by name. She loves playing in the snow and doesn’t mind walks in the rain. Generally loves the freedom of running while out for walks, especially chasing after her ball.Skye knows a number of commands (sit, down, paw, spin, wait, rollover and more) and enjoys responding to these commands before throwing a toy. When putting Skye’s food out, she’ll be told to ‘leave’ and then ‘take’ once it’s put down, she’ll also do this when playing with a toy.She loves having a job to do, from being told to look out for a family member coming into the house to being asked to go and find a certain toy from her toy box. Engaging her brain is a must for her.Skye loves going out for car journeys and looking out the window.Skye would benefit with an owner with collie experience but also reactive and nervous dogs. She will need someone with a lot of time and patience to bring out her full potential. She would also benefit from a fairly rural home and a quiet household. If you feel you could offer Skye the loving home she deserves please contact the office directly on 01224 208989 or click on “Request to adopt Skye now”.
