About Dogs Friends

Dogs Friends was founded in 2005 by a group of friends committed to improving the lives of unwanted and unloved dogs in the Bristol, Bath, and Somerset areas. Registered as a charity in 2009, the organisation operates across much of the South West, focusing on direct rehoming rather than large-scale services. Dogs Friends believes that all dogs are equally deserving, taking in animals of all ages, sizes, breeds, and backgrounds. Through dedicated teamwork and fundraising, the charity continues to help dogs find safer, happier homes.

Cassie

Somerset
SexFemale
Age2 years
BreedCollie

Age: estimated to be 2Background –Cassie came from the pound. So we have no history for her.Character –Cassie is a lovely lively bouncy girl. Who enjoys lots of attention and cuddles. She is a medium size, similar to a small collie.Cassie has quickly settled into her foster home and is now learning basic commands and manners. Luckily she is very bright and willing to learn so things are progressing well.Cassie is excited by everything life has to offer, especially ā€˜walkies time’. She is a high energy dog and could run all day. Also getting wet and muddy is a favourite passtime.Cassie is friendly with all the dogs she’s met and has great recall. She is living with a small dog in her foster home but can be a bit bossy sometimes so we feel she would be best as an only dog. Where she can receive all the love and attention without having to share!Type of home –We are looking for a experienced and calm home for Cassie. With someone who can continue with her basic training needs. She will need a home that is able to provide her with the exercise and mental stimulation she needs. We are unsure of her breed mix, but she is highly intelligent and energetic, akin to a springer spaniel. She would prefer to have someone home for most of the time.Cassie is a work in progress but will be worth all the time and effort needed as she’s such a lovely soul.Cassie is in foster care in Weston super mare and potential adopters will need to meet her here. Our catchment area for rehoming is Somerset and the local surrounding areas (such as Bristol, Bath, Weston Super Mare and Wiltshire).

Chow Chow

Somerset
SexFemale
Age2 years
BreedChihuahua

Age: estimated to be 2 years oldBackground –Chow Chow joined us as a stray, so little is known about her historyCharacter –Chow Chow is a sweet little girl who finds the world a little overwhelming. She is a very loving and affectionate young girl and has really leant on her foster carers for support, primarily through cuddles! She has been fostered in a home with three other dogs and has got along well with them, though she does like her own space. She is a really funny little character and clearly likes the finer things in life. She has a particular taste in dog food, treats, and even kibble!Type of home –Chow Chow is nervous and would prefer a nice, calm household. She enjoys going out for walks and having a laze on the sofa. She can live with or without canine companions. Whilst she’s being fostered with other dogs, she does prefer her humans and space, so we think she would prefer calm companions or to be the only dog in the home. Chow Chow does like to be around people so she would not like to go to a home where she will be left for long periods.Chow Chow is in foster care in Nailsea and potential adopters will need to meet her here. Our catchment area for rehoming is Somerset and the local surrounding areas (such as Bristol, Bath, Weston Super Mare and Wiltshire).

Dakota And Tikani, a 5 years old female Alaskan Malamute X Siberian Husky available for adoption from Dogs Friends in Somerset

Dogs Friends

Dakota And Tikani

Somerset
SexFemale
Age5 years
BreedAlaskan Malamute X Siberian Husky

Background –Dakota and Takani have joined us after a sad change in circumstances meant their owner could no longer care for them.Character –These girls are a gorgeous pair that people have nothing but good things to say about. They gain comfort and confidence from being together and are the best of friends, playing happily together (even if they could do with a bit more spatial awareness when they do so!).Type of home –The girls are looking for a calm but active home – they love being outside. They haven’t previously lived with dogs but they are friendly with the dogs they meet, so they may be able to live in a home with other dogs. Whilst not tested with cats, they have never shared a home with felines, so we think they’d be best suited to a home without cats. When on lead, the girls can be very strong and excitable, so they will need a confident handler. Both girls have travelled well with us, although they do need some initial encouragement, and are used to being left for short periods. However, they do have typical husky vocals, so they may not be suited to noise-sensitive homes. The girls are residents at our Kennels between Cheddar and Wells and potential adopters will need to meet them here. Our catchment area for rehoming is Somerset and the local surrounding areas (such as Bristol, Bath, Weston Super Mare and Wiltshire).

Frankie, a 1 year old male Siberian Husky available for adoption from Dogs Friends in Somerset

Frankie

Somerset
SexMale
Age1 year
BreedSiberian Husky

Background –Frankie joined us from the pound, so little is known about his history.Character –Frankie is a young and cheeky boy. He’s playful and full of life! He can be a little clumsy, and we think he has a bit of filling out to do, but he loves to play and be made a fuss of. After all the excitement is done, he’s happy to be your foot warmer.Type of home –Frankie loves being outside, so he is looking for an active home. We believe he’s quite young and has some learning to do – he is very smart and has already learnt some commands whilst in foster (he even knows how to open doors!). Frankie does have a prey drive, so he can’t live with cats or small animals. We think he would be best suited with a dog of a similar size, that will be tolerant of his young and playful nature. Health –Frankie is generally in good health. He does have a sensitive tummy, which means he’s avoiding certain proteins in his diet.Frankie is in foster care in Street, and potential adopters will need to meet him here. Our catchment area for rehoming is Somerset and the local surrounding areas (such as Bristol, Bath, Weston Super Mare and Wiltshire).

Hank, a 11 months old male Cane Corso x Dobermann available for adoption from Dogs Friends in Somerset

Dogs Friends

Hank

Somerset
SexMale
Age11 months
BreedCane Corso x Dobermann

Background –Hank has joined us from the pound after being handed into the vet as a stray.Character –Hank is a very affectionate, bouncy boy, who loves cuddles! He is a typical big puppy. He’s food motivated, keen to learn, and takes everything in his stride, even though his start to life has been so unsettled. Due to his unsettled start, Hank does pull on lead and needs training and socialisation, although he has mastered the perfect ā€˜Paw’. He’s been loving his recent trips in the car, watching the world go by.Type of home –Hank needs a stable, experienced home. Due to his bouncy nature, we’re looking for a home without young children on this occasion. We do not know what Hank will be like in the home, and his new owners need to be prepared to show him the ropes. Hank is a big boy, already weighing 53 kgs, so his new owners must be confident handlers. It is expected that Hank will be at least 65 kgs when fully grown.Hank is a resident at our Kennel and potential adopters will need to meet him here. Our catchment area for rehoming is Somerset and the local surrounding areas (such as Bristol, Bath, Weston Super Mare and Wiltshire).

Background –Hugo came from an unstable pet home where he was often found straying. He was eventually handed into the pound and served his time unclaimed.Character –Hugo is a young, sweet boy who likes nothing more than a good run around and then a kip on the sofa. He’s got a reputation with all who know him as being a very gregarious, friendly, and outgoing pup.Type of home –Hugo is excited to find his forever home. He can live with or without a resident dog of a similar size. Any resident dog(s) will need to be tolerant of Hugo’s excitable nature, as he loves nothing more than to play around with his foster brother. He hasn’t met children, cats or other small animals in our care.Hugo will need to be neutered when he’s a bit older, so his new home will be adopting him on a neutering agreement.Hugo is in foster care in Bristol and potential adopters will need to meet him here. Our catchment area for rehoming is Somerset and the local surrounding areas (such as Bristol, Bath, Weston Super Mare and Wiltshire).

Jasper, a 8 years old male Lurcher available for adoption from Dogs Friends in Somerset

Dogs Friends

Jasper

Somerset
SexMale
Age8 years
BreedLurcher

Background –Jasper joined us as an owner surrender after his previous owner’s dementia meant they could no longer provide the care he needed.Character –Jasper is a laid-back boy who happily takes everything in his stride. He was initially nervous about cars, having come from a very remote location, but he’s getting used to the noise quite quickly. He’s enjoyed a lot in a short time: car rides, walks, and even a trip to the local restaurant. He’s been loving all the attention he’s got in foster care and making the most of unlimited belly rubs.Type of home –Jasper is looking for a nice and relaxing home for his retirement years. Due to his placid nature he should fit in to a variety of home environments. He hasn’t lived with a dog before but has happily ignored them when out and about, so he may be able to live with a dog of similar size and temperament, subject to successful introductions. He isn’t currently living with children but has been used to visiting grandchildren in his previous home, so he may be ok with calm, sensible children.Due to a poor diet before joining us Jasper does have some ongoing skin issues that are being treated. He also has an old injury that left him a bit lame in his front leg but this has improved as he’s settled into a better routine.Jasper is in foster care in Wookey Hole and potential adopters will need to meet him here. Our catchment area for rehoming is Somerset and the local surrounding areas (such as Bristol, Bath, Weston Super Mare and Wiltshire).

Mary Belle, a 5 years old female Pointer x English Springer Spaniel available for adoption from Dogs Friends in Somerset

Dogs Friends

Mary Belle

Somerset
SexFemale
Age5 years
BreedPointer x English Springer Spaniel

Background –Mary-Belle originally came to us as one of a litter of 3 pups (Mary, Mungo and Midge) back in 2020. All were quickly adopted and Mary-Belle has had a much loved and happy life until recently, when a sad change of family circumstances meant she needed to come back to us.Character –Mary-Belle is a lovely and friendly girl. She is active and intelligent. Mary-Belle is a smarty who can open doors, and she’ll probably alert you to the arrival of any delivery people and passing dog walkers! She enjoys a good run around in her local field and recalls well to a whistle. Mary-Belle can have a nervous disposition and can be jumpy in certain situations.Type of home –Her intelligence means Mary-Belle will need plenty of mental stimulation and enrichment as well as physical activity. She is used to having her family around all the time, but she’s gained confidence with being left for short periods whilst in foster care. While fine with larger dogs, Mary-Belle can be a bit bossy and, as such, is selective when she meets other dogs. She’s a strong dog with a prey drive, so her handlers will need to be confident managing this when walking her.Mary-Belle is in foster care in East Brent, Somerset, and potential adopters will need to meet her here.Applicants will need to come and meet her there. Please note our catchment area is Somerset and surrounding areas e.g. Bath, Bristol, Weston-super-Mare etc.

Milo, a 1 year old male Crossbreed available for adoption from Dogs Friends in Somerset

Dogs Friends

Milo

Somerset
SexMale
Age1 year
BreedCrossbreed

Background –Milo joined us after being found as a stray.Character –Milo enjoys nothing more than spending time in his bed or snuggling up on the sofa. He is very affectionate and likes to stay close by. He is very intelligent, loves being outdoors, and enjoys playing scent-based games. We think he’ll make a great adventure buddy with the right support! Milo probably hasn’t spent much time in the home so he needs plenty of training as he needs some manners, will jump up, and counter surf.Type of home –Milo is looking for a home where someone is around all of the time to help him with his separation anxiety. He would prefer to be the only dog in the home. Milo enjoys being out and about, so an active family would be preferred. He would love to find a family who will be happy letting him sleep close by.Milo doesn’t seem to have had much training or socialisation in his early life, so he will need a home with confident and experienced handlers that can work with him on his training needs.Milo is a resident at our Kennels (between Cheddar and Wells) and potential adopters will need to visit him here. Our catchment area for rehoming is Somerset and the local surrounding areas (such as Bristol, Bath, Weston Super Mare and Wiltshire).

Dogs Friends

Ned

Somerset
SexMale
Age4 years
BreedCollie x Whippet

Background –Ned came into rescue as his owner had recently had heart surgery and couldn’t manage him. Ned has always lived with his parents and siblings so is used to being in a multi-dog household.Character –Ned is a bouncy boy who is always happy to see people – he is also quite a cuddly boy but is equally happy to explore a secure field. When he went to the vets the whole staff said what a lovely boy he is!Type of home –Ned would like an experienced and active home with people who are understanding of his typical collie traits and able to support him with ongoing training. Ned is used to living with other dogs and so could live with others subject to successful introductions, and he has lived very nicely with another dog in foster care. We think Ned would be ok with older, sensible and gentle children who won’t mind his bouncing around when he plays!Ned struggles with traffic reactivity and needs to live in a rural home away from traffic. This reactivity needs a lot of work, and we’d recommend his new family enlist the support of a trainer.Ned is a resident at our kennels, and applicants would need to come and meet him here.
