Easterleigh Animal Sanctuary was founded by Mandy Leigh after her livery stables gradually became a refuge for abandoned and unwanted animals of all kinds. What began in the mid-1990s with horses, dogs, and cats quickly grew into a full animal sanctuary after Mandy famously took in and successfully rehomed 27 Jack Russell terriers, marking a turning point in the charity’s mission. Officially registered as a charity in 1998 and named in memory of Mandy’s beloved rescued horse Easter Girl, the sanctuary went on to help hundreds of animals ranging from dogs and cats to farm animals, birds, and small pets. Following Mandy’s unexpected passing in 2017, her work has continued under the care of a dedicated board of trustees. Today, Easterleigh Animal Sanctuary remains committed to rescuing, caring for, and rehoming animals in need, made possible through the support of volunteers and the wider community.
