About Erin Hounds
Erin Hounds is a registered charity founded in 2008 to rescue, rehabilitate, and responsibly rehome Irish sighthounds in need, while raising awareness of sighthound welfare issues in Ireland. Run entirely by knowledgeable and passionate volunteers, the charity supports greyhounds, lurchers, salukis, and other sighthounds affected by overbreeding, irresponsible ownership, and lack of welfare enforcement in the Republic of Ireland. Erin Hounds works closely with rescuers on the ground near Galway and a dedicated volunteer team in the UK, primarily based in Cheshire. Many of the dogs helped include ex-racing greyhounds, hare coursers, discarded breeding bitches, and abandoned or stray lurchers. By finding loving homes outside Ireland, Erin Hounds offers these dogs a genuine second chance at a safe and happy life.
