About Ferne Animal Sanctuary

Ferne Animal Sanctuary was founded in 1939 by the late Nina, Duchess of Hamilton & Brandon, to provide refuge for pets belonging to men and women leaving for war. Based on the Ferne Estate in Wiltshire, the sanctuary also cared for animals rescued from London and other southern cities during wartime. Following the Duchess’s death in 1951, leadership continued and the charity formally registered in 1965 (charity no. 1164350). Today, Ferne’s work continues in the same spirit of compassion, offering care and sanctuary to animals in need.

Aslan

BreedGerman Shepherd

Meet Aslan – a big, handsome boy looking for his forever home! Aslan is a stunning German Shepherd with a lot of love to give. This big lad is looking for a home with an experienced owner who understands the German Shepherd breed and can continue helping him with his training and guidance. Aslan would benefit from some ongoing work with loose lead walking and recall when off lead, but with the right person and a bit of time, he has so much potential. He does have a strong prey drive and will chase cats, so he will need a cat-free home. Here are some of Aslan’s lovely qualities: House trained Loves being groomed Friendly with other dogs on lead (can be a little boisterous off lead) Travels well in the car Used to being left for short periods (around 1–2 hours) Azlan could live with older children aged 11+, with careful introductions. This handsome boy is just waiting for someone to give him the loving, experienced home he deserves. ️ Could you be the one Aslan has been waiting for? Axel, a 2 years old male Rottweiler x Staffordshire Bull Terrier available for adoption from Ferne Animal Sanctuary in Somerset

Ferne Animal Sanctuary

Axel

Somerset
SexMale
Age2 years
BreedRottweiler x Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Meet Axel This handsome chap is Axel, who arrived at Ferne as a stray, so unfortunately his previous history is unknown. What we do know is that Axel is a bright and friendly boy with lots of potential. Axel has great recall, is friendly with other dogs both on and off lead, and is clean in his kennel. He’s also comfortable being left for 1–2 hours and travels well, making him a great companion for many lifestyles. Axel could live with older children (11+) following careful introductions. Due to his age and breed, he can be a bit bouncy and lively, so a home with very young children wouldn’t be suitable. He will need some ongoing training to walk nicely on a loose lead, and he does have a strong chase instinct with cats, so a cat-free home will be essential. Axel is a very intelligent boy and is highly food motivated, which makes training fun and rewarding for him. With the right guidance and a loving home, he will thrive. If you can offer this happy boy a safe, loving home and a place to finally call his own, please apply through the rescue website. Read more & enquire Temperament: Lively, friendly. Weight: 29KG.

Bobby

SexMale
Age4 years
BreedLakeland Terrier

Meet Bobby – Your New Best Friend! This handsome little chap is Bobby, who came into Ferne through no fault of his own after his previous owners sadly had to move away. Now he’s ready to find a loving forever home where he can truly thrive. Bobby is a fun, active boy who loves life and would suit an owner who can give him plenty of mental and physical stimulation. He has a high prey drive around small furry animals, so a home without cats or other small pets would be best for him. The good news is Bobby already has some lovely manners. He is house trained, walks nicely on a loose lead, travels well in the car, and is comfortable being left alone for short periods (around 2–3 hours). He has previously lived with children aged 4 and over and enjoys playing ball – one of his favourite games! Bobby is friendly with other dogs when out and about off lead, but in the home he would prefer to be the only dog so he can soak up all the love and attention for himself. Like many clever dogs, Bobby would benefit from a little more help with his off-lead recall, but with the right guidance and consistency he has all the potential to become an amazing companion. If you’re looking for a happy, playful dog who will bring lots of fun and affection into your life, Bobby could be the perfect match for you. Could you offer Bobby the loving home he deserves? Meet Lexi Lexi is a gorgeous young American Bulldog who is really struggling in kennels and desperately needs to find her special person. She’s a happy, bouncy girl who travels well, and is already house trained. Lexi can be left comfortably for short periods (around 1–2 hours) and could live with sensible older children aged 15+, following careful introductions. Like any young dog, Lexi is still learning and will need ongoing guidance. Her recall will need work when off lead, she can be reactive on/off lead and she can be strong on the lead, so she’s looking for a patient, committed home that will continue her training with kindness, consistency, and understanding. With the right support, Lexi has so much potential and is ready to truly blossom. A cat-free home is essential and the only dog in the home. More than anything, Lexi needs someone who can look beyond her difficult start and see the incredible dog she’s become. Shadow

Somerset
SexMale
Age4 years
BreedSaluki

Meet Shadow (aka Shadrack) Shadow is a big-hearted goofball looking for his forever home — one that’s adults-only and filled with patience, understanding, and love. This handsome sighthound came to us as a welfare case after living in a car, so the world is still a pretty new and sometimes overwhelming place for him. Because of this, Shadow needs someone who will take things slowly, helping him build confidence through calm, positive experiences and continued training. Shadow can get overexcited or bark in new situations — sometimes he just doesn’t quite know what to do with all his energy! But once you’ve earned his trust, you’ll find he’s incredibly funny, affectionate, and loyal. He’s the kind of dog who will keep you smiling every day. Shadow’s ideal home: Adults-only and in a quiet, rural area Patient owner willing to go at his pace No cats or small furries (he has a strong prey drive!) Best as the only dog in the home What Shadow loves: Playing with toys and having zoomies Walks on a loose lead Spending time with people he trusts Relaxing after a good play session Other notes: House trained Fine being left for 2–3 hours Playful with other dogs off-lead Whines a little when travelling but soon settles Shadow might take a little time to come out of his shell, but when he does, you’ll have a loyal, hilarious, and loving companion by your side. If you think you can give this special boy the calm, patient home he deserves, please apply online today. Read more & enquire Temperament: Lively, friendly. Weight: 23KG.
