About Forest Dog Rescue

Forest Dog Rescue, based at Green Gap Kennels, has been helping dogs for over 40 years after originally starting life as the Tanwood Stray Fund. The rescue evolved to own its own kennels in 2010, allowing it to provide consistently high standards of care for dogs from private homes, strays, and other charities in need of support. Purpose-built kennels and converted stables ensure both short-term and long-term residents have warm, comfortable spaces while they await their forever homes. Each year, over 250 dogs are rehomed, with all receiving vaccinations, neutering, and any necessary veterinary treatment. Thorough home checks and ongoing support help give every dog the safe, loving future they deserve.

Annie, a 5 years old female Pocket Bully available for adoption from Forest Dog Rescue in West Midlands

Annie

West Midlands
SexFemale
Age5 years
BreedPocket Bully

Poor Annie was unfortunately returned to us as she was let out the front door and nipped the delivery drivers bottom We know she isn't going to be an easy rehome but we are going to give it our best shot. She is stubborn especially on walks and quite single minded so doesn't need an active home. On the flip side she loves to play especially with squeaky toys and all her energy is put into that instead of exercise! Annie likes to keep her family to herself and would prefer no visitors in her home, although she is a massive foodie and can be bribed but a busy household wouldn't suit this princess. Once you are in her trust circle she will shower you with kisses, licks and tummy tickles with the occasional headbutt if she gets too excited. According to her last owner she wasn't bothered around dogs - we have found she can be 50 / 50 with them so unfortunately a pet free.We don't mean to be negative nellies but we do need to be as honest as we can so that we can find her the right home where someone can give her a real chance. If you think that might be you PLEASE get in touch and request an adoption questionnaire via emailinfo@forest-dog-rescue.org.uk

Carlo, a 4 years old male Crossbreed available for adoption from Forest Dog Rescue in West Midlands

Forest Dog Rescue

Carlo

West Midlands
SexMale
Age4 years
BreedCrossbreed

Carlo is a charming boy with a gentle, easygoing nature and plenty of potential just waiting to shine, he has come into us from another rescue but sadly we don't have any history on him.He walks beautifully on the lead, making him a lovely companion for calm strolls. When you stop for a chat, Carlo is patient and happy to wait by your side, just waiting for the nod to continue his walkies. He generally takes little notice of other dogs, although he may occasionally show interest and pull towards some in a friendly way.Carlo can sometimes jump up to say hello, but he does so very politely but with a bit of continued guidance, he’ll quickly learn all four paws on the ground are best.He absolutely loves exploring with his nose, especially enjoying a good sniff around the playpen. Carlo will engage with toys and is beginning to learn how to play, but he’s still figuring out just how fun they can be. With a little time and encouragement, his playful side is sure to blossom.Fairly independent by nature, Carlo is happy to do his own thing, yet he’ll always come back to check in with you, he does enjoy a fuss and cuddle but isn't one to be wanting affection all of the time.Carlo would suit a home with no young children as he has met some since being here and wasn't overly enamored, he would like a fairly active family to enjoy lovely long walks and a quieter home environment to get on his bed, stretch out and snooze the rest of the day away.

Dale, a 7 years old male Crossbreed available for adoption from Forest Dog Rescue in West Midlands

Dale

BreedCrossbreed

Meet our gorgeous boy Dale who is 6-7 years old and is a true gentleman Dale has come into us from another rescue so sadly we don't have any history on him. When he first arrived he was incredibly shut down not wanting to move from his bed in his kennel however slowly but surely he trusted us enough to venture onto the fields and hasn't looked back since. We did have to get him up to the vet to have a look at his teeth and gums as they weren't looking great, the vets had a good look & took him in for a dental, surprisingly no extractions but a good clean to help the build up and his inflamed gums... we think he is feeling much better now Dale is calm, relaxed, and a lovely boy to have around. He enjoys his walks and generally does walk well on the lead, though he can sometimes decide he’s had enough and will lay down and refuse to move… most of the time a little patience and gentle coaxing will get him on his way but occasionally he may need to be picked up (Which is a bit tricky given he is around 25kg) but we hope will get less and less in his new home as his confidence grows and fitness increases. He’s still building his confidence and can be unsure of new things and the world around him, so he’ll need a calm, understanding home where he can go at his own pace and feel safe. We have found Dale to be good with other dogs and it may be one where he needs another dog to take comfort in but a dog not to overwhelming for him just one to compliment his calm nature & be his bet friend. In the playpen Dale loves nothing more than to have belly rubs and will happily roll on his back for them at any given time! He does like a sniff and a roam around, he isn't interested or remotely sure of what to do with toys but he would love a secure garden to relax in and a family who can give him the reassurance and time he needs to truly come out of his shell. If you’re looking for a gentle, sweet companion, Dale could be your boy

Joy, a 1 year old female Bull Terrier available for adoption from Forest Dog Rescue in West Midlands

Joy

West Midlands
SexFemale
Age1 year
BreedBull Terrier

Meet our beautiful Joy who is as her name suggests, full of the joys of spring!!! Joy has come into us via the dog warden but we do have some history which will be given to those interested in rehoming her.Since stepping foot off the van Joy has been nothing but super friendly, happy-go-lucky, full of enthusiasm pup, her tail is always wagging and she is always happy to see you!Joy loves everyone, always wanting to make new friends however she hasn't quite got the hang off meeting people in a calm way, graciously asking for fuss instead opting for tail going like a whirlwind, jumping about and jumping up people in a bid to make them her new best friend - we are trying to work on this but with her excitement to be out of her kennel, it has been a challenge! On the lead she can walk well if she puts her mind to it but she can get distracted & excited often resulting in her towing you along or dancing about so further work will need to be done to tackle walking on a loose lead.In the playpen she loves running round as fast as she can however as she has limited spatial awareness you have to make sure your not in the firing line otherwise she may well bowl you over if she's not able to stop in time - bless her! We've not found her to be too interested in toys in the playpen more so interested in humans or running, but we do know she plays with toys in her kennel so there is a playful pup in there! We will be looking for a home to take her to training classes as although she is so lovely, not a bad bone in her she does lack in manners, overall obedience and calmness all of which some training classes will help to achieve.Joy will need an active home as especially in kennels she has no off switch, even when she's sat on a bench for a cuddle she just wants more and to be close to you so sitting still doesn't really happen but no doubt with lots of walks, training, mental stimulation and instilling some boundaries she will make a beautiful family dog!

Ozzy

Poor Ozzy has had to come back into us due to an unforeseen change in his family home which left no option for the family to make the heartbreaking decision to bring him back to find a new home but hopefully he won't be here too long before he finds his forever home!Ozzy originally came into us last year from the stray pound, so we have no history of his life before this but his owners have given us plenty of information to go on!We have been told that he is quite calm in the house, is housetrained and does ask to go out by waiting by the back door, he is crate trained where he happily sleeps overnight, fine being left up to 3-4 hours, does travel well, very good boy on his walks, has been to 8 week training class and loves his fuss!!He walks well on the lead using a head collar and very much enjoys his walks so an active home is a must for him!His owners said he is good with other dogs out and about though he does seem to take a disliking to GSD's but they also don't seem to like him so the feeling must be mutual! We will be looking for a home where he will remain as an only dog as that is what he is used to.We have been told that he would suit a quieter home as he finds a busy household a challenge, he would also suit a home with older/no children. His owners have done a lot of work on his recall and he is much better now however he is still easily distracted so further work and use of enclosed fields would be advisable! Overall Ozzy is a cracking pup who just needs an active home with his own garden and his own humans!!

Pippin, a 4 years old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier available for adoption from Forest Dog Rescue in West Midlands

Meet this gorgeous dinky Staffy PIPPIN.Pippin is around 4 years old and same as her friend Armani has been in kennels for over 2 years - Full details will be disclosed once the application process is underway. This energetic fun loving girl is ready to find her forever home.Pippin is a super lively, bouncy, high energy pup. She would love a home where she can go on lots of adventures and plenty of zoomie time in the garden. She loves to chase and play with toys in the playpen but isn't much good at bringing them back.Although Pippin will benefit from a very active home she is also super loving. She really is a sweet and happy girl who thrives on plenty of attention. She does have a tendency to jump up quite a lot out of excitement bless her even though she's quite small. She could do with some manners but as she's been in kennels for such a long time who can blame her for getting excited to see you and have that very important human contact. She walks well most of the time but can pull if eager or excited to sniff. She has walked around beautifully with other dogs whilst here at the rescue and has lived with another previously but Pippin can be very boisterous and full on.Pippin is desperate for her forever home, she will fill it with fun and lots of love. Are you game for a loving little pocket rocket like Pippin?

Ross, a 2 years old male Collie available for adoption from Forest Dog Rescue in West Midlands

Ross

West Midlands
SexMale
Age2 years
BreedCollie

Meet our handsome boy Ross who has come into us from another charity with no history, he has completed all of his assessments so it's next stop, forever home! Ross will thrive in a very active home where he can enjoy plenty of walks and activities to keep his sharp collie mind busy. He walks nicely on the lead when using a figure of 8 headcollar and very much enjoys getting out and about to explore, so a home with plenty of walks and adventures will be a must.He does enjoy a game of ball in the playpen and will happily chase it… bringing it back, however, is still a work in progress! Ross can be cuddly and affectionate, but he’s also an independent boy who sometimes thinks there are more exciting things to do than sit still for too long. What he really needs is a home that understands collies and can give him a purpose or a job to do, where his intelligence and energy can really shine.Ross would prefer to be the only dog in the home. He’s not one for close-up socialising and is much happier doing his own thing rather than sharing his space with other dogs. With the right person, Ross has so much potential and will make a fantastic companion. If you think you could offer Ross the active, understanding home he deserves, please get in touch!

Royce, a 3 years old male Staffordshire Bull Terrier available for adoption from Forest Dog Rescue in West Midlands

Royce

West Midlands
SexMale
Age3 years
BreedStaffordshire Bull Terrier

ROYCE is a beautiful 2-3 year SBT X boy who is desperately looking for a place to call home after coming to us as a stray. Right now, kennel life is proving really tough on him. The noise, the routine, and the lack of a calm space to decompress have left him feeling stressed. Because of this, he can sometimes seem a little disconnected with people and has a shorter attention span than he likely would in a home environment. But the thing about Royce — underneath that kennel stress is a playful, fun-loving dog just waiting to shine He loves toys. Give him a ball or something squeaky and you’ll see his whole personality light up. He’s playful, energetic, and absolutely thrives when he has space to run, so his own secure garden will be a must! Royce doesn’t need perfection — he just needs patience. He needs someone willing to give him time to decompress, adjust, and remember how to just be a dog again. We are looking for an active home as he has lots of energy and will certainly thrive with plenty of exercise, he will also need someone to work on his basic commands and take him to dog training classes to really work on his obedience and build a bond with him. Royce will need a pet free home to begin with, so he can settle into home life and get the 1-2-1 attention he needs without the worry or distraction of other animals. If you can offer Royce a safe place, structure, and understanding while he settles in, you’ll gain a loyal, playful companion who will make every day brighter then please email us for an application form - info@forest-dog-rescue.org.uk

Tory, a 8 months old male Dogue de Bordeaux available for adoption from Forest Dog Rescue in West Midlands

Forest Dog Rescue

Tory

West Midlands
SexMale
Age8 months
BreedDogue de Bordeaux

Tory is sadly looking for another new home after coming into us last month we quickly found him a home however due to a number of reasons he was brought back to us so our quest restarts for a forever home!We will be looking for an experienced home to help Tory become accustom to household life, routine and boundaries, in his last home his owners initially found the settling in phase a dream until Tory began to push a few boundaries and assert his own wants above theirs which left them feeling like he needed a more experienced and capable home to get him in check whilst he is still young. On the lead Tory can walk well but he can pull and his excitement can get the better of him at times so he will need some continued lead work in his new home.In the playpen he loves a good run round, he will chase and run round with toys though it's 50/50 if he actually brings them back to you mostly preferring to gallop round with them in his mouth then drop them if a good sniff takes his fancy. He can be incredibly cuddly and affectionate but he is also a young boy with an agenda of treats, adventures, sniffs and exploring which obviously comes first and foremost!Food is definitely a way to his heart and will be the key to nailing his obedience, basic commands and manners - his sit for a gravy bone is beautiful (if you can look past the dribble!!)We have found Tory to be good with dogs, always very interested to meet them, usually pretty gentle especially if they are smaller than he is but he can get a bit carried away with a paw bop and demands to play. We know he hasn't lived with another dog before but if the right brother/sister came along he could potentially live with one in his new home.Tory is a lovely boy, he has clearly been let down in the past and needs our help to find the right home so his future is bright and he grows up to be a good boy (which we know he is!).
