About Forever Hounds Trust

Forever Hounds Trust is a UK-based rescue charity dedicated to the welfare, rehabilitation, and rehoming of greyhounds, lurchers, and other sighthounds. Registered as a charity since 1996, the organisation operates from its centre near Cullompton in Devon, where dogs receive care in line with best-practice welfare standards before being matched with permanent, loving homes. Forever Hounds Trust also provides free, lifelong post-adoption behavioural support to help keep dogs successfully settled in their new homes. Supported by a small staff team, trustees, and a nationwide network of volunteers, the charity actively promotes improved sighthound welfare and advocates against practices that compromise the wellbeing of these breeds.

Charley, a 9 years old female Lurcher available for adoption from Forever Hounds Trust in Devon

Charley

Devon

Age9 years
BreedLurcher

Charley is a sweet, small-medium sized lurcher girl. She’s 9 years old and is looking for a new home due to a change in circumstances in her current home, where she is a much-loved member of the family. Charley is a loving dog who bonds deeply with her family, and is very intelligent. She loves walking and playing with her tennis ball, and despite her age needs plenty of exercise – but she is also a typical couch potato lurcher, as long as her exercise needs are being met. Charley is very friendly with women and although she needs a more gradual introduction to new men, it usually doesn’t take long to gain her trust. She is housetrained, well-behaved at home and can be left alone for a few hours. She travels well in the car, but can occasionally get sick on very long journeys. Charlie is nervous of other dogs; whilst she can make friends with proper introductions, she can be defensive on walks if another dog enters her personal space. She is not severely reactive or difficult to manage, and tends to ignore dogs unless they get too close, but her adopter must be willing to support her and understand that there are some situations she finds challenging. She would prefer to be the only dog in her new home. Charlie would love to live in a quiet rural or semi-rural area, with a garden to play and relax in and plenty of love and attention from her new family.Would prefer to be the only dog. May be able to live with teenagers, but would prefer a quiet, calm environment. Would prefer a rural or semi-rural home. Is still active for a 9 year old! Needs access to walking areas without too many other dogs (especially loose dogs). Can be left alone for around 4-6 hours, but this must be built up gradually in a new home.

Fern, a 9 years old female Lurcher available for adoption from Forever Hounds Trust in Devon

Forever Hounds Trust

Fern

Devon
SexFemale
Age9 years
BreedLurcher

Fern is a small-medium sized lurcher girl of around 8-9 months old, looking for her forever home after a difficult start in life. Fern is a sweet, affectionate dog who thrives on human company. She’s also a big fan of other dogs, and enjoys making new friends! She is currently staying in a home with another dog, who she gets along brilliantly with; she will need to live with another dog in her new home, as she struggles with being left alone without canine company. Fern does like to play rough, and also loves to cuddle up with other dogs to sleep, so any resident dogs must be comfortable with this! Fern has been spending time with children from age 6+ and has been very good with them, but she is a bouncy girl and would be too much for very small kids. She walks well on the lead and has good recall off-lead in safe areas – as long as there are no rabbits or squirrels about, since she has a very high prey drive! Being a young dog, Fern has plenty of energy and would suit a fairly active family.Must live with another dog. Can live with sensible children 6+ who are used to dogs, pending introductions. Cannot live with cats or small furries. Needs a decent-sized, secure garden to run and play safely. Can be left alone for short periods with the company of another dog. Needs a decent amount of exercise and plenty of attention.

Lucy, a 5 years old female Greyhound available for adoption from Forever Hounds Trust in Devon

Lucy

Devon
SexFemale
Age5 years
BreedGreyhound

Sweet Lucy is a petite and affectionate girl looking for a calm and loving home. She is a very bright girl who loves learning and engaging with her handlers. Lucy has already learnt her name in a very short space of time and is practising checking in on walks for tasty treats.Lucy would thrive with adopters who can continue building her confidence by choosing quiet walking areas where she won’t need to worry about encountering off-lead dogs. As a Greyhound who has spent all of her life in kennels, she can find busier environments overwhelming and would therefore prefer a quieter home and walking environment.Like many ex-racing greyhounds, Lucy arrived with us feeling a little stiff and uncomfortable, but she has made fantastic progress in our care. She is currently seeing a physiotherapist who is helping her continue to build strength and mobility. Because of this, Lucy would be best suited to a home where she won’t need to manage lots of stairs.Lucy would benefit from an experienced greyhound home who will be patient, allow her to settle at her own pace, and gently introduce her to the wider world while she continues to enjoy home comforts. The love she receives will be returned sevenfold.Would prefer not to be left alone for long periods & needs a gradual introduction to home life Quieter walking areas where she won’t need to worry about seeing off-lead dogs A home where she won’t need to regularly use stairs
