Deacon is a truly loveable boy with a big heart, ready to find the forever home he deserves. He’s a genuine “love bug” who greets both familiar faces and new people with confidence and warmth. Deacon thrives on human interaction and absolutely enjoys a good fuss and plenty of affection. He loves his time off-lead in the paddock, where he can stretch his legs and enjoy himself. Playtime is a big part of his day, especially with toys he can have a good chew on! Deacon also benefits from enrichment activities like snuffle mats and frozen Kongs, which are a great way to bond with him while keeping his mind engaged. Deacon has spent a short time in a home, from this we have learnt that Deacon will need owners around most of the time to help settle him into the home, and any leaving time will need to be built up very gradually. Deacon has been on a number of quieter off-site adventures and has shown that he walks well on the lead, staying engaged with his handler. He enjoys exploring new environments through sniffing, he will need continued support and guidance around other breeds of dog and quieter walks would best suit Deacon.

Fly is searching for a new home through no fault of his own, and he truly is a wonderful boy who deserves a loving family to call his own. Fly is an affectionate, happy lad who enjoys the comforts of home life. He is house trained and settles well in the home, making him a lovely companion to have around. He loves getting out and about on his daily walks, taking in all the sights and smells. Fly also has a playful side and enjoys a good run around and spending time with his toys. Fly is looking for a home as an only dog, where he can have calm walking friends on walks to help build his confidence around other dogs. Garth is a gorgeous Greyhound with a gentle, sweet nature who has settled wonderfully into life here at Hillcrest. While he can be a little nervous when meeting new people, he soon gains confidence and reveals his affectionate, playful personality. Garth loves spending time in our paddock, where he enjoys running around and engaging with his handlers. He has built positive relationships with the team and is a pleasure to spend time with. He walks nicely on the lead and confidently jumps in and out of our vehicles unaided. In our home environment, Garth has shown excellent house manners, exploring gently and enjoying a fuss. When out on off-site adventures, Garth is confident and curious, taking in his surroundings with enthusiasm. He enjoys exploring new environments and remains engaged with both his handler and the world around him. We are currently continuing to assess Garth around other breeds of dog. Garth is a lovely boy with plenty of affection to give and would make a wonderful companion for a family willing to give him the time and reassurance he needs to continue building his confidence. Mabel is a marvellous girl with bounds of confidence and happiness, she greets familiar and non familiar people with ease. She has settled well into the kennel routine here at Hillcrest and has shown us her playful side already! Mabel has ventured off-site and has demonstrated calm and collected behaviour around non-sighthound breeds and enjoys his walks in public spaces. Se takes new experiences in her stride and walks well on a lead. Mabel has spent time in our home environment and coped well, she enjoys affection and sniffing out the treats in enrichment. Sir David is a handsome gentleman with an equally beautiful personality to match. Since arriving at Hillcrest, he has settled wonderfully into kennel life and has quickly become a favourite among staff and volunteers. Confident and friendly, Sir David greets both familiar faces and new people with ease. He is a sociable boy who enjoys human company and is always happy to make new friends. His calm, approachable nature makes him a pleasure to spend time with. Sir David walks well on the lead and is always excited when it's time for his next adventure. Whether it's exploring local parks or heading out for a day trip, he travels brilliantly, hopping in and out of vehicles independently and without hesitation. A natural introvert, Watson is a sensitive soul who very much enjoys gentle interactions with people once he has had time to take everything in. Because of this, he tends to keep all his emotions inside and so doesn’t tend to greet people as exuberantly as some of the other greyhounds available for adoption. Watson spent close to a month in a quiet foster home recently as part of our home assessment/kennel respite programme to help us better understand how he might find home life. He did really well, causing his foster carer to excitedly comment, “There’s so much good news with this boy! I’ve loved having him.” Watson settled into the home environment with relative ease. Within a few days, he was no longer bothered by home appliances or the TV and had perfected the toileting routine. By the end of the first week, he had cracked the stairs and was sleeping right through the night in an open crate in his foster carer’s room. And by the end of the placement, he was beginning to relax enough to show his personality as extremely loving and inquisitive. Because he has only ever lived with other greyhounds in the routine environment of a racing kennel, Watson is still learning to feel confident enough to spend time alone. For that reason, we are looking for a home that can provide constant company for Watson and work on increasing his confidence and independence very gradually. However, he’s very happy to spend time with other human ‘Aunties’ and ‘Uncles’, if you need to go out! He also travels well and can spend short amounts of time in the car if you need to pop to the shops. Live many ex-racers, Watson thrives when life is predictable. He needs very short and quiet walks initially, as he can get overwhelmed with strange sights, noises and unfamiliar dogs who aren’t greyhounds. We’ve been working on this with him, and he’s been making good progress and learning new skills, and we will continue to support with this. This might mean walks aren’t that interesting to begin with but as his confidence develops, we can see him being able to go to more places. Meet Wesley – the happy-go-lucky chappy! Wesley is a confident, lovable lad who has settled beautifully into kennel life and really enjoys the comfort of a familiar routine. He travels brilliantly in vehicles, hopping in and out unaided and settling down with ease. Wesley is always upbeat and delighted to meet both familiar faces and new people. His friendly, positive nature makes him a joy to be around. He has spent time in our training barn with staff and volunteers, where he loves engaging with his handlers and playing with his toys. Watching him have fun and show off his playful side is an absolute pleasure. Wesley has also enjoyed an off-site adventure and walked nicely on the lead. We are still getting to know how he responds to the wider world, so keep an eye out for further updates as we continue his assessments.
