These boys deserve a home as wonderful as their big hearts. They are an absolute joy to have around and would definitely suit a home where their humans are nearby. They can be left alone for short periods and are more than happy enjoying each other’s company with no issues at all. They are fully housetrained, although they do require a little encouragement to go out if it’s raining! They are early risers and absolutely LOVE their food — they will definitely let you know when it’s mealtime. Aside from that, they are happy, gentle boys who love nothing more than sofa snuggles. Their favourite thing is being on the bed with their humans and they will very happily take the offer of being under the covers if allowed. They are a delight to walk on the lead. Off lead they tend to stay nearby, although their recall does need a bit of work. The good news is that they are very food motivated, so with some dedicated training this shouldn’t take long at all. There has been some occasional counter surfing, so as with most sighthounds, food left on the edge of the counter is definitely a risk! Apollo is a little more timid, quiet and reserved — the sweetest boy. Axel is the more confident one and adores a fuss as much as humanly possible. They are polite with other dogs, although they can sometimes get a little excited when sniffing. With a bit of continued training this won’t be an issue, and could happily live with other canine companions, or having lots of walking buddies! They travel well and wait politely to get in and out of the car. Meet Boris, A Loving, Playful Companion. Boris is a gorgeous, affectionate boy who absolutely adores people. He thrives on cuddles and scratches and is happiest when he’s close to his humans, whether that’s relaxing on the sofa or greeting visitors with a wagging tail. He loves his walks, especially when he can be off-lead to explore. Boris has great recall and enjoys meeting other dogs of all sizes while out and about. He’s an adventurous soul who particularly enjoys splashing through puddles to cool his feet after a good run! At home, Boris is clean and well-behaved, as long as he’s let out regularly. He’s comfortable with stairs and loves to snuggle up on the settee. He also has a charming habit of collecting items like shoes and socks, but don’t worry, he doesn’t chew them! His favourite toys are tennis balls, and he’ll happily keep you entertained retrieving them from under the furniture. Boris is wonderful with people of all ages and enjoys the company of both adults and children. Fly is searching for a new home through no fault of his own, and he truly is a wonderful boy who deserves a loving family to call his own. Fly is an affectionate, happy lad who enjoys the comforts of home life. He is house trained and settles well in the home, making him a lovely companion to have around. He currently lives with a small non-sighthound breed dog and has shown he can happily share his space. He loves getting out and about on his daily walks, taking in all the sights and smells. Fly also has a playful side and enjoys a good run around and spending time with his toys. Fly is good with other dogs and could potentially live with another calm dog in the home, pending a successful meet at the centre. Meet our lovely new arrival, Haf. Haf is a beautiful, petite girl who may be a little shy at first, but she’s already growing in confidence with each passing day here at Hillcrest. As she begins to feel more at ease, Haf is showing her sweet and affectionate nature, gently leaning in for fuss and enjoying quiet moments of attention once she trusts you. She’s had some time in a home environment where, after a cautious start, she quickly discovered her favourite spot: the treat tin! It didn’t take long for her curiosity (and love of snacks) to shine through. Haf has also been on an off-site adventure, where she gained confidence from being around other sighthounds. Because of this, she may really benefit from living with a calm, confident dog who can help guide her and show her the ropes. Now that her personality is blossoming, Haf is revealing a loving and quietly confident side. She’s looking for a patient and understanding home, someone who will let her settle in at her own pace and continue to build her confidence in a gentle, supportive way. Meet Lavender! Lavender is a beautiful girl who has truly blossomed since arriving at Hillcrest. She has settled wonderfully into kennel life and keeps her space clean overnight, such a good girl! She greets everyone with her big, “love me” eyes and has such a gentle, expressive nature. Lavender adores affection, especially neck rubs and soft tickles along her back, and she’s always eager to make new human friends. In the paddock, Lavender’s playful side really shines. She loves to initiate games with a classic play bow and delights in tossing her toys around, it’s an absolute joy to watch her having fun. Lavender has also spent time in a home environment, where she’s shown just how loving and relaxed she can be. She won’t hesitate to hop up on the sofa and snuggle in beside you! On a recent off-site adventure, Lavender walked beautifully on the lead and remained calm and composed when spotting other non-sighthound dogs in the distance. Nina is a beautiful new arrival who is just beginning to find her feet. When she first meets new people, she can be a little nervous, but with a bit of patience and kindness, her confidence starts to shine through. Since settling in, Nina has built some lovely bonds with the staff and is already showing glimpses of her cheeky, playful personality. It’s been a joy to see her come out of her shell and start to enjoy the world around her. She’s recently had some time to play out on the paddock, where she showed just how delightful and fun-loving she really is. Penny has been in her foster home for just over two weeks, and in that short time, she’s blossomed in the most beautiful way. She’s settled into home life with a quiet grace, finding comfort and companionship in the resident male greyhound. The two have formed a lovely bond, and it’s clear that having another dog by her side helps Penny feel safe and secure. In the home, Penny is a dream. She’s fully housetrained, keeps her space clean, and has already shown how well she can cope when left alone for a couple of hours with her canine friend. More than anything, she simply lights up when her foster carer returns, a gentle reminder of how much love she has to give. The outside world is still a learning experience for Penny, and she’s taking it all in at her own pace. She enjoys calm, quiet walks where she can feel relaxed, as busy traffic and loud noises can still make her a little unsure. Even so, she has met a variety of dogs along the way and has handled each encounter with a calm and gentle nature. Penny is such a sweet, sensitive soul who is quietly finding her confidence every day. She would truly thrive in a home with another friendly dog to guide and reassure her, and with someone who will continue to show her patience, kindness, and love.

Prince is a truly special dog with a wonderful balance of confidence, curiosity, and affection. He is comfortable with both familiar people and those he’s just meeting, approaching everyone with a friendly and engaging nature. One of Prince’s most endearing traits is his love of affection, he’ll happily nuzzle his head into you, making it clear when he’s ready for a fuss. He has enjoyed a variety of off-site adventures and is confident in new environments. Prince walks beautifully on a lead and remains calm when spotting non-sighthound breeds in the distance. He has also had a positive experience meeting two Shetland ponies, taking it all in with ease and curiosity. Prince is a big fan of enrichment activities and especially enjoys anything that lets him use his nose, he loves to dive right in and explore. It’s a joy to watch him engage with his surroundings in such a thoughtful and enthusiastic way. Every day, Prince continues to grow and improve, showing just how much potential he has. Meet the radiant Raven, a petite girl who has settled well into our kennel routine at Hillcrest. Raven enjoys greeting new and familiar people, she is confident and happy when doing so. She is a friendly and affectionate girl, often looking for the next human to get some fuss from! Raven enjoys heading off site for adventures and has remained calm when seeing non sighthound breeds at a distance. She has spent time in the home environment here at Hillcrest, learning all about life in a home, she has been doing well and continues to learn. Tango has previously lived in a home, so he understands home life and settles in well. He walks nicely on the lead and enjoys getting out and about on his adventures. He has been clean in the home before and has also stayed clean overnight in his kennel, showing great habits and routine. He has a calm and gentle nature, Since returning to us, he’s also been off-site and has continued to show how relaxed and well-mannered he is. He remains calm when seeing non sighthound breeds. He walks well on a lead, taking everything in his stride, although he will need a little help getting in and out of vehicles initially. He would be best suited to a home with older children, where he can enjoy a calm and loving environment. A natural introvert, Watson is a sensitive soul who very much enjoys gentle interactions with people once he has had time to take everything in. Because of this, he tends to keep all his emotions inside and so doesn’t tend to greet people as exuberantly as some of the other greyhounds available for adoption. Watson spent close to a month in a quiet foster home recently as part of our home assessment/kennel respite programme to help us better understand how he might find home life. He did really well, causing his foster carer to excitedly comment, “There’s so much good news with this boy! I’ve loved having him.” Watson settled into the home environment with relative ease. Within a few days, he was no longer bothered by home appliances or the TV and had perfected the toileting routine. By the end of the first week, he had cracked the stairs and was sleeping right through the night in an open crate in his foster carer’s room. And by the end of the placement, he was beginning to relax enough to show his personality as extremely loving and inquisitive. Because he has only ever lived with other greyhounds in the routine environment of a racing kennel, Watson is still learning to feel confident enough to spend time alone. For that reason, we are looking for a home that can provide constant company for Watson and work on increasing his confidence and independence very gradually. However, he’s very happy to spend time with other human ‘Aunties’ and ‘Uncles’, if you need to go out! He also travels well and can spend short amounts of time in the car if you need to pop to the shops. Live many ex-racers, Watson thrives when life is predictable. He needs very short and quiet walks initially, as he can get overwhelmed with strange sights, noises and unfamiliar dogs who aren’t greyhounds. We’ve been working on this with him, and he’s been making good progress and learning new skills, and we will continue to support with this. This might mean walks aren’t that interesting to begin with but as his confidence develops, we can see him being able to go to more places.
