About Heathlands Animal Sanctuary

Heathlands Animal Sanctuary is a volunteer-run animal rescue charity based in Royston, Hertfordshire, dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming of unwanted domestic pets. The sanctuary supports dogs, cats, rabbits, and some caged birds, caring for most animals in foster homes rather than a central facility. With a strict non-destruction policy, Heathlands rehomes hundreds of animals each year that might otherwise face euthanasia in council pounds. By using foster care, the charity is able to better assess each animal’s temperament and needs, helping to place them into safe, suitable homes primarily across Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Bedfordshire, with some adoptions considered nationwide.

Arnie is a lovely big friendly boy of around 40kg. He loves a fuss and everyone he's met. Fine with kids, joggers, cars, bikes, loud noises, coffee shops etc. He's very easy in the home and sleeps quietly downstairs all night. He's generally fine with other dogs but seems to prefer females. He enjoys his food and treats and hasn't shown any signs of allergies or food intolerance. He can be quite strong on the lead at the start of a walk but loves his play time with toys in the paddock and soon calms down after a run. Knows all basic commands.Arnie would be best suited with older teenage children as he is a big boy and doesn't realise his size. No cats or small furries.

BreedSoft Coated Wheaten Terrier

Bobby is a very active, sweet little guy, of around 12kg.He's an energetic lad who likes to be busy and play in the garden.Really playful, he and his foster sister play endlessly, he's the first dog that has outlasted her! He's learning to chill out using a crate, as he seems to understand that means it's time to rest.Bobby needs training. He would probably excel at any kind of dog sport. He likes his food but not treat orientated. More attentive with tugs, squeaks etc. Overall a smashing little dog, needs a playful dog with similar energy, ideally a bitch, already established in the home. Huge potential in the right, active home. Kids around 7+. No cats

Truly beautiful young lady, body and soul. Remarkably calm and gentle but still a puppy really, just in a 30kg body.Good with all other dogs she meets, big and small. Currently living with 3 others, she's submissive and playful. She'd love a permanent doggy buddy in the home. She's a little unsure in new situations but responsive and learning quickly. Very affectionate and greets you for a cuddle, she can get a bit bouncy when excited. Getting used to the car and travels well. Loves walking across the fields, not so sure about traffic yet. Good in the home. Did incredibly well with a much needed bath and groom.Lots to learn but a really great temperament.Kids around 8+

Mira is a truly stunning, beautiful teddy bear of about 27kg. Very affectionate with her humans though a little wary of strangers. She had no input before arriving in rescue and had already had a litter of puppies, probably from her first season, but she has a great temperament.Generally calm and steady, she has discovered her silly, playful puppy side and gets a bit mouthy when over excited. Mira has been great with the 4 dogs she's fostered with and dogs she meets on lead walks. She’s not built for too much running or hiking, better for countryside strolling & exploring. Mira is good on lead and travels fine in the car. Fabulous companion dog. Kids around 8+. Fine with cats & livestock

Penn has been looking for his forever home for a long time and has so much love to give! His fosters have said he is a perfect house guest and loves his cuddles. He is crate trained and can be left for a few hours once walked. He loves other dogs and is okay with bold cats. Penn bonds strongly with his primary carer and can become possesive so ideally he is looking for a commited person who he will be a loyal companion to. He can be socially awkward when out and about on the lead and can lunge at things that are strange to him but he has come on very well with his dedicated team of volunteers taking him out for new experiences and showing him the world isn’t that scary. His ideal is adopter is person who is strong and confident in dealing with situations so Penn can relax. He is very busy, but once he has burnt off all that energy he settles well. He loves spending time in the garden, where he runs up and down with a squeaky ball He's crate trained for nighttime and travels well in the car. Adult home. Okay with bold cats
