About Helping Dogs & Cats

Helping Dogs and Cats CIC was founded in 2018 by Kirsty Wrighton in memory of her beloved dog Millie, inspired by the deep bond they shared. Entirely volunteer-run and foster-based, the rescue cares for dogs and cats in home environments, with a small garden cattery providing additional safe space for some cats. Despite significant veterinary costs—including over £50,000 spent between August 2024 and February 2025—the organisation remains committed to providing essential medical care such as vaccinations, neutering and surgeries. Beyond rescue and rehoming, Helping Dogs and Cats CIC also supports local families struggling with vet bills, ensuring more pets can stay in loving homes.

Could You Be Kash’s Forever Family? Meet Kash – our stunning blue and tan gentle giant who is ready to find the family he deserves. At 2 years old, Kash is an impressively tall Cane Corso who turns heads wherever he goes… but behind that enormous frame is an affectionate, gentle boy who simply wants to be part of the family. Location: Basingstoke Loves people and thrives on human company. Bin lorries? Hi-vis jackets? Loud noises? Nothing phases this boy – he’d much rather stop and say hello! Loves his walks and playing fetch but is just as happy relaxing and snoozing nearby afterwards. A true Velcro dog who simply loves being with his people. He settles beautifully but is happiest in a home where someone is around for much of the day. Currently living successfully with dog-savvy resident cats following slow introductions and sensible management. Loves other dogs, although due to his size and youthful enthusiasm, some dogs (and their owners) can be a little apprehensive of him, so introductions should always be managed carefully. Kash responds brilliantly to calm, fair and consistent guidance with positive reinforcement. He walks well on the lead but is a powerful boy who can pull when excited. He still has that wonderful giant puppy enthusiasm, so he’ll thrive with an experienced owner who’ll enjoy continuing his training. Has gained confidence and condition since arriving in foster. Recently had a grass seed removed from his nose after a little misadventure and was the best boy throughout his vet visit! Guardian breed experience essential. Dog-savvy cats considered. Potentially a tolerant female or easy-going “doofus” male, following careful introductions. A home where someone is around for much of the day, as he simply loves being part of family life. If you’re looking for an affectionate, loyal gentle giant to share life’s adventures with, Kash could be the boy you’ve been waiting for.
