About Helping Dogs & Cats

Helping Dogs and Cats CIC was founded in 2018 by Kirsty Wrighton in memory of her beloved dog Millie, inspired by the deep bond they shared. Entirely volunteer-run and foster-based, the rescue cares for dogs and cats in home environments, with a small garden cattery providing additional safe space for some cats. Despite significant veterinary costs—including over £50,000 spent between August 2024 and February 2025—the organisation remains committed to providing essential medical care such as vaccinations, neutering and surgeries. Beyond rescue and rehoming, Helping Dogs and Cats CIC also supports local families struggling with vet bills, ensuring more pets can stay in loving homes.

Patch is a gorgeous two-year-old Mastiff mix who firmly believes she’s a lap-sized dog! She’s already started her basic obedience training and is learning quickly — she loves working for tasty treats and using her clever brain. Patch now knows sit, wait, leave, close, heel, here, off, quiet, no, yes, in, and ok, and she will even wait politely for her food. Such a clever cookie!Patch needs a confident, consistent owner who will maintain good routines and boundaries. If she’s given the chance to be cheeky, she absolutely will be!She would love to live with a friendly, confident dog — one who can help her remember her manners but also enjoys playing. Her future dog companion will need to be tolerant of a big, bouncy youngster! Patch should be fed separately or in her crate, but she currently lives happily in foster with 11 other dogs of all ages and sexes without any issues.Patch is being fostered on a smallholding, so she’s used to being around cats, dogs, sheep, goats, geese, chickens, and cows — and she’s fab with them all. She’s also great with people and is a very soft, loving girl.
