About Homerun Hounds

Home Run Hounds Greyhound Charity is a volunteer-run registered charity (No. 1209071) dedicated to rehoming ex-racing Greyhounds across the UK. Operating from six centres—including Wombourne, Stourbridge, Shenstone, Lakenheath, Warrington and Essex—the charity works nationwide to carefully match hounds with suitable adopters. They do not discriminate on age and assess a wide range of living situations, including flats and even boats, working with the boating community where appropriate. With flexible fostering options and thorough suitability checks, Home Run Hounds ensures both adopters and greyhounds are well matched for a happy, lasting home.

Ben

Staffordshire

BreedGreyhound

New to our Monkspath kennels is beautiful blue boy Ben (Newinn Ben). At just one year old, this gorgeous pup decided he would prefer napping on the sofa to catching the bunny, so has been retired early. You can see from his fluffy coat that he is still just a youngster, though he has such a laid back personality, we are certain that Ben could fit in to every type of family unit. Energetic enough to play, yet relaxed enough to chill, Ben is proving to be a good all rounder already. He will be experiencing lots of off site adventures in the coming days, to discover all the different things that pet life has to offer. We will report back on his progress. In the meantime, if you would like to meet Ben - he would love to meet you

Billy 2, a 1 year old male Greyhound available for adoption from Home Run Hounds in Staffordshire

Home Run Hounds

Billy 2

Staffordshire
SexMale
Age1 year
BreedGreyhound

Yes - we have another Billy at our Monkspath kennels, this time it's Aero Billy (or Billy 2, as we lovingly refer to him). This stunning 1 year old hurt his leg on his trial, so has no racing form. If you are looking for youthful fun - Billy is your dog. Incredibly puppy like, due to his age, Billy would prefer an active family, with older or no children. He has no concept of spacial awareness and all he wants to do is cuddle you - in fact, if you are fussing him & you stop, he will nibble at your fingers for more. Billy is very energetic but totally adorable but shares beautifully with Echo, so can be the perfect gentleman, with guidance. Whilst we have been keeping a close eye on his leg, he hasn't yet been off site for socialisation - therefore Billy has no concept of other breeds, traffic noise etc. Once fully healed, we plan to get Billy into a longer term foster, with an experienced handler, to help him to learn the ropes. In the meantime, if a young, energetic hound is on your wish list, please come and meet him.

Blaze, a 6 years old male Greyhound available for adoption from Home Run Hounds in Staffordshire

Blaze

Staffordshire
SexMale
Age6 years
BreedGreyhound

Our frosty faced, radar eared boy has been with us a few weeks now and has really started to enjoy all that life has to offer.Blaze is quiet and a little reserved in kennels but has really enjoyed spending time out and about and showing what a good boy he is (and he really is!)Our volunteers report that Blaze is a joy to take out and about, walks great on the lead and is very easy to handle.Blaze has been to a very busy dog show where he behaved brilliantly with other dogs and enjoyed lots of fuss and cuddles from his many admirers. We think Blaze will really blossom in a home. On a recent visit home with one of our volunteers he helped make lunch and then enjoyed a mad 10 minutes with a ball in the garden, showing that he definitely has a cheeky side under that quiet exterior. If you’d like to meet Blaze and his rather fabulous ears, please get in touch!

Bob, a 6 years old male Greyhound available for adoption from Home Run Hounds in Staffordshire

Home Run Hounds

Bob

Staffordshire
SexMale
Age6 years
BreedGreyhound

Bob is a lovely boy, great company and a pleasure to walk. He walks without pulling and looks for occasional reassurance. Bob would benefit from more trips out to get used to other dogs, as he is a little fearful at the moment. He is however, a big softie at heart and loves cuddles with humans and benefits from lots of affection and reassurance. One of our lucky volunteers had the pleasure of Bob’s company on a weekend home visit recently. Bob’s initial enthusiasm for affection and a fuss showed no signs of waning over the stay, he is such a friendly boy. He still isn’t so keen on other dogs though, so Bob’s likely to want his new owner(s) all to himself. That dislike of other animals extends to cats, squirrels etc, so care is needed out and about. That said, although Bob shows his dislike with a whine, he isn’t reactive or difficult to control, he just likes to make his feelings known.Bob settled well in the house, no toileting mishaps or reactions to household noises. He was however curious about the TV and had a good look round it to see where the sounds and pictures were coming from! Although Bob can handle steps out and about, he will need practice with stairs.Bob is partial to a doggy ice-cream and has a healthy appetite but soon learned that human food was out of bounds and was also good natured with toys, showing no guarding behaviour. Bob’s good manners continued through his walks, and he is generally great on the lead, but just needs distracting from those pesky other animals he doesn’t think much of. He is well behaved in shops and cafes and will make a lovely companion.Described as a beautiful soul, if you’d like to help Bob find his feet and give him the loving home he deserves, we can’t wait to hear from you!

He has a lot to learn about the big wide world, but with love, patience and lots of new adventures, we know Brucie will blossom. Not a fan of loud noise, Brucie would prefer a home where there are older or no children, preferably a quiet setting. Due to his initial nervousness of new experiences, Brucie will need a patient and experienced dog owner. In return, Brucie will give you his unconditional love and a most loyal companion

Champ

Charming chap Champ (Droopys Suprstar) is an absolute stunner of a handsome black boy. This dashing 3 year old is waiting to meet his forever family. An outgoing, friendly and confident lad, Champ loves his interaction with the volunteers - a game of 'play bow' being his favourite - he's just a joy to have in kennels. We are just beginning Champ's socialisation and his first trip out was a busy and noisy one. At first he wasn't too keen on getting into the car but soon got the hang of it. He found children a little overwhelming to begin with but was happy to have them around when stopped at a cafe. He didn't react to the many people, dogs (and even a horse) that passed by on his walk. For a first outing he did so well. We will tell you more as Champ gets out and about. For now, we know him to be a very loving and affectionate boy, who adores people, his daily grooming & tooth brushing, and he walks lovely on his lead.

Chief, a 7 years old male Greyhound available for adoption from Home Run Hounds in Staffordshire

Chief

Staffordshire
SexMale
Age7 years
BreedGreyhound

As you’d expect from the Chief, he is one cool customer. A tall boy but full of friendly happy vibes, and easy to walk without much pulling. We’ve been putting him through his paces, seeing how he reacts to busy places, lots of people, noise, dogs and he’s remained confident and well behaved. He’s shown a little excitement with other dogs, but other than one occasion, no overt reactivity, more of curiosity. To help prepare Chief for his next big adventure, he recently spent the weekend with one of our volunteers to introduce him to home life. He continued his charm offensive and received a glowing report – a very affectionate, friendly boy who was a pleasure to look after. He coped well in the home, toileting outside and soon getting used to everyday noises such as the TV, (the vacuum may need a little more practice!). Chief had to be encouraged to use the stairs, but soon got the swing of it, so we’re hopeful he may soon apply his new skills to getting in and out of the car, which he prefers a little help with at the moment. On his walks, Chief’s impeccably good lead manners were on display. While he still showed interest in other dogs, he didn’t display any reactivity or aggression, even when faced with some new breeds and reactive dogs. He ignored ducks and geese etc. but loves to greet people and really enjoys affection. He is hoping to greet his new person / people soon, so please get in touch if you’d like that to be you!To watch a video of Chief CLICK HERE
