About Hull Animal Welfare Trust

Hull Animal Welfare Trust began in 1982 as a small volunteer-led group determined to help abandoned and unwanted animals in the local area. Initially caring for cats and dogs in foster homes and basic facilities, the organisation grew steadily as community support increased. In 1992, the group became a registered charity and established its own base at Sunnydene Shelter in South Cave. Over the years, the Trust has expanded to include purpose-built kennels, cattery and small animal facilities, and a fully developed campus supported by a combination of dedicated volunteers and professional staff, ensuring high standards of care and long-term security for animals in need.

Blue came in to our care from another rescue that was closing down.He hasn’t been with us for very long and is still under assessment for us to determine what sort of home he will be best suited to.He is full of energy and character and will need someone who can provide him with plenty of exercise and mental enrichment. As far as we are aware, he has never been around children. This combined with his boisterous nature means we will not be looking to place him in a home with children. We are still assessing his suitability to live with other dogs.

BreedLurcher

It breaks our hearts to think of what Bruno must have gone through, but it gives us such relief to know that he was rescued in time, before the worst happened. His journey to a full recovery will be a slow and careful process involving veterinary care, a controlled feeding regime to get them gradually back to a healthy weight, and most importantly lots of love. Although he still has quite a way to go before he’s back to full health, we feel that he is now ready to find his forever home and that he will benefit greatly from being in a home environment with a loving family. Bruno will need an adult only home with someone who is willingly to support him in his recovery and provide him with a calm and safe environment to flourish in. Bruno is still under assessment with other dogs.He cannot live with cats or small animals. If you think you can give Bruno his second chance in life, please call us any day between 11am – 2pm on 01430 423986.

Harper was adopted from us back in 2021 but has sadly had to be returned to us due to not getting along with the other dog in the house. He is a large crossbreed who originally came across from Romania as a puppy. He is a loveable character who will make a wonderful companion in the right home.He walks really well on a lead but he does have the size and strength to pull towards something of interest so he will need someone who can manage him.Whilst being here, he has passed some dogs happily with no reaction at all but has taken a disliking to others. We will be looking to place him as an only dog.

Poor Polly found herself in the stray kennels and in need of a new homeShe is a 5 year old, Large Labrador Cross who needs someone who can give her some time and understanding to feel secure.Polly can be a little wary initially when meeting new people so she will require an understanding home with previous dog experience. She loves her time in our off lead paddock and has a real playful side! Her favourite game is fetch with a tennis ball and she would play it all day if she could! As she has an unknown history, we cannot rehome her with resident or visiting young children. Ralph is a French Bulldog of around 5 years old.He came into our care with an untreated leg injury which rended the leg unuseable and it was also causing him severe discomfortThis leg has now been removed and the difference in Ralph is amazing to see. Sam, a 10 months old male German Shepherd available for adoption from Hull Animal Welfare Trust in East Riding of Yorkshire

Hull Animal Welfare Trust

Sam

East Riding of Yorkshire
SexMale
Age10 months
BreedGerman Shepherd

Prior to coming into our care, Sam and his siblings had never left their house and yard. They had never stepped out into the big wide world and as a result, we welcomed 3 very scared, anxious and un-socialised puppies into our fold.Sam, Frank and Able all found new homes not too long after arriving but sadly, after some time in his home, it was realised that Sam’s needs were much greater than initially anticipated and we are now trying to find Sam a home that is better suited to his needs.Sam is a very sweet boy. He can be nervous of new people and can bark at new visitors to the house, but he soon warms to people with lots of reassurance and treats and he loves cuddles and fusses with trusted people and is very affectionate. He loves playing fetch and running around in secure fields and, as you can see, he is also highly skilled at carrying two balls at a time! He’s smart and learns things quickly and is now fully house trained.

Spike came to us through no fault of his ownWe have very little information on Spike but we think he is around 2 years old.Spike enjoys a good run around in our off lead paddock.Whilst on walks he gets very enthusiastic around other dogs and can be quite strong. He would benefit from some training. He is very food orientated so this should help!We believe he has lived with a dog before so may be able to live with another dog, subject to meet and greet.

Whiskey, a 6 years old male Lurcher available for adoption from Hull Animal Welfare Trust in East Riding of Yorkshire

Hull Animal Welfare Trust

Whiskey

East Riding of Yorkshire
SexMale
Age6 years
BreedLurcher

Poor Whiskey has come to us through no fault of his own. He was picked up as a stray and remained unclaimed. He is now seeking a home where he will be loved and given plenty of attention and cuddles. He is proving to be a really sweet boy with people and loves nothing more then lots of human fuss.He can be a little on the goofy side when he’s zooming around off lead in our paddock but he equally enjoys a long snooze afterwards to recouperate. We do not know the history of his previous interactions with other dogs, but since being here, he has made it clear that he really isn’t comfortable around them and will react quite badly when he sees them. Because of this, we will only be open to applications to homes with no other pets.
