About Hull Animal Welfare Trust

Hull Animal Welfare Trust began in 1982 as a small volunteer-led group determined to help abandoned and unwanted animals in the local area. Initially caring for cats and dogs in foster homes and basic facilities, the organisation grew steadily as community support increased. In 1992, the group became a registered charity and established its own base at Sunnydene Shelter in South Cave. Over the years, the Trust has expanded to include purpose-built kennels, cattery and small animal facilities, and a fully developed campus supported by a combination of dedicated volunteers and professional staff, ensuring high standards of care and long-term security for animals in need.

Blue came in to our care from another rescue that was closing down.He hasn’t been with us for very long and is still under assessment for us to determine what sort of home he will be best suited to.He is full of energy and character and will need someone who can provide him with plenty of exercise and mental enrichment. As far as we are aware, he has never been around children. This combined with his boisterous nature means we will not be looking to place him in a home with children. We are still assessing his suitability to live with other dogs.

BreedCrossbreed

Drax is a large crossbreed of around 2 years old, who is now looking for a new home after remainging unclaimed as a strayHe is a very friendly boy, who loves everyone he meets, however, is a typical boisterious young dog that hasn’t had much structure in his early life, so will need to be taught some manners when meeting new people.Drax is an active boy, who would really benefit from scent work classes, dog sports or lots of hiking and outdoor timeWe would be looking to place him in the home with children above the age of 12 years old due to his boisterous nature. He has a potential to live with dogs, should it be the right dog for him

Ethel, a 12 years old female Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier available for adoption from Hull Animal Welfare Trust in East Riding of Yorkshire

Hull Animal Welfare Trust

Ethel

East Riding of Yorkshire
SexFemale
Age12 years
BreedSoft Coated Wheaten Terrier

Can you believe that this little senior lady was picked up as a stray. No dog deserves to be in kennels, but especially not an older dog like Ethel. Ethel should be curled up in front of someone’s fire, not found wandering the streets all alone. She may be a little older at around 12 years old (and can be a little grumpy at times) but can’t we all be at her age? But underneath her sass, is a loyal little companion who just wants a comfy place to napBeing a terrier she has a big personality packed into a little body and is still spritely and enjoys going for a gentle stroll.Because of her age and personality, we are looking for a quiet, patient home for Ethel, where she can feel safe and loved and spend her twilight years in comfort and warmth.

I am a resident at Hull Animal Welfare Trust and I have been a resident here for quite some time now.I don’t mind it too much here at the kennels, but it can be quite noisy with the other dogs barking and a lot of comings and goings all day so it would be nice to find a quiter place where I can spend the rest of my days.I had a bad experience beofre coming to Hull Animal Welfare, I was abandoned by my owner in a flat and the anxiety of not knowing when someone was coming back for me was very upsetting. Because of this I don’t like being left alone anymore and would need someone very calm and patient that can understand my worries and work with me to start feeling better.I love having freedom and being out and about on walks and keeping busy and i loooovve sniffing!!The ‘humans’ at Hull Animal Welfare have been very kind and have been helping me to learn to relax more and be calm.

Harper

East Riding of Yorkshire
SexMale
Age4 years
BreedCrossbreed

Harper was adopted from us back in 2021 but has sadly had to be returned to us due to not getting along with the other dog in the house. He is a large crossbreed who originally came across from Romania as a puppy. He is a loveable character who will make a wonderful companion in the right home.He walks really well on a lead but he does have the size and strength to pull towards something of interest so he will need someone who can manage him.Whilst being here, he has passed some dogs happily with no reaction at all but has taken a disliking to others. We will be looking to place him as an only dog.

Moe, a 3 years old male Crossbreed available for adoption from Hull Animal Welfare Trust in East Riding of Yorkshire

Moe

BreedCrossbreed

Moe was found straying all alone and terrified. When he arrived, we thought that someone must surely be looking for this beautiful boy, but no-one came.He was so terrified after arriving with us, that we struggled to even get him to venture out of his kennel. It took a couple of days for him to build up the courage to leave the safety of his bed and stretch his legs.Seeing a dog as scared as this is so upsetting for us and we knew that gaining his trust would be a slow process. But after a little while with us, he was lucky enough to go into foster with one of our volunteers who had a soft spot for him and now he is like a completely different dog! He is more confident and very lively and will need an owner who can keep up with his activity levels and his need to be kept mentally busy.Due to his unknown background, we will not be placing him in a home with children.

Poor Polly found herself in the stray kennels and in need of a new homeShe is a 5 year old, Large Labrador Cross who needs someone who can give her some time and understanding to feel secure.Polly is still under assessment but has been generally friendly with people she has met so far. She can be a little wary initially of some people so she will require a home with previous dog experience. She also loves her time in our off lead paddock and is beginning to show her playful side, and her love of ballsAs she has an unknown history, we cannot rehome her with resident or visiting young children. Ralph is a French Bulldog of around 5 years old.He came into our care with an untreated leg injury which rended the leg unuseable and it was also causing him severe discomfortThis leg has now been removed and the difference in Ralph is amazing to see. Every day as he heals, he becomes happier and more at ease with himself, and life which shows just how much pain he must have been in beforeThe time is now right for Ralph to find his forever home…..We are looking for a child and pet free home for Ralph where he can re-adjust, gain his confidence and settle into a new home.

Sam, a 10 months old male German Shepherd available for adoption from Hull Animal Welfare Trust in East Riding of Yorkshire

Hull Animal Welfare Trust

Sam

East Riding of Yorkshire
SexMale
Age10 months
BreedGerman Shepherd

Prior to coming into our care, Sam and his siblings had never left their house and yard. They had never stepped out into the big wide world and as a result, we welcomed 3 very scared, anxious and un-socialised puppies into our fold.Sam, Frank and Able all found new homes not too long after arriving but sadly, after some time in his home, it was realised that Sam’s needs were much greater than initially anticipated and we are now trying to find Sam a home that is better suited to his needs.Sam is a very sweet boy. He can be nervous of new people and can bark at new visitors to the house, but he soon warms to people with lots of reassurance and treats and he loves cuddles and fusses with trusted people and is very affectionate. He loves playing fetch and running around in secure fields and, as you can see, he is also highly skilled at carrying two balls at a time! He’s smart and learns things quickly and is now fully house trained.
