About Love Underdogs

Love Underdogs was founded by animal lovers determined to help some of the most unwanted, abused, and voiceless dogs. The charity began after witnessing the harsh realities faced by dogs in Romanian shelters, leading to a long-term commitment to rescuing and rehoming dogs from the Victory Shelter in Brașov in partnership with trusted Romanian organisations. Alongside rehoming dogs to loving homes in the UK, Love Underdogs supports wider change through neutering campaigns, education programmes, and ongoing improvements to local pound conditions. Working collaboratively with international partners, the charity has helped transform a once-notorious kill shelter into a place where dogs are cared for and healthy animals are no longer euthanised. While giving individual dogs a second chance, Love Underdogs’ long-term vision is a future where Romanian dogs can be safely cared for and adopted within their own country.

Meet Aladdin Aladdin is one of those dogs who quietly steals hearts. Handsome, fluffy and full of personality, he has now spent almost 600 days waiting for his forever home, and we truly cannot understand how this beautiful boy is still overlooked.Originally rescued from a shelter in Brașov, Romania, Aladdin arrived with the world feeling like quite a frightening place. Everything was new to him — even wearing a harness and going for walks took time, patience and trust.Fast forward to today, and Aladdin has blossomed into a funny, affectionate and deeply lovable dog who is so ready for his next chapter.________________________________________ His PersonalityAladdin is a wonderfully goofy, playful boy with a brilliant sense of humour. He has a smile that rarely leaves his face and a playful, bouncy nature that makes him such a joy to be around. He absolutely loves his toys, enjoys pottering around on walks, and is also very talented at relaxing dramatically in his bed while watching the world go by.There is something incredibly charming about him. He has that lovely “little shadow” quality — the kind of dog who will quietly bond very deeply with his person and look to them for reassurance and guidance. He can still be a little skittish at times, and when unsure, he may hover close to your legs looking for comfort and support. But there is absolutely nothing bad in him — he is a truly gentle, harmless and sweet-natured dog.Aladdin is also incredibly striking in appearance. With his fluffy double coat and unusual mountain-dog look, he turns heads everywhere he goes and people are constantly asking what breed he is.________________________________________ Growing in ConfidenceAladdin has already come such a long way. While he can still be thoughtful around new people initially, he now walks beautifully on the lead and enjoys getting out and about. He is no longer the frightened dog he once was, but he will always likely have a slightly sensitive and cautious side to his personality. Because of this, he needs people who understand that confidence is built through kindness, patience and trust. For the right person, this is actually one of the most rewarding things about him. Watching Aladdin continue to blossom, settle and deepen his bond with his people will be incredibly special. He will need a few visits prior to adoption so he can feel comfortable, particularly with his new family handling his harness and building familiarity with him.________________________________________ With Other DogsAladdin has been lovely with the female dogs here and enjoys calm canine company. He can sometimes find very boisterous male dogs a little overwhelming, so gentle introductions suit him best.As he does lack confidence in the world we are looking to place him with a canine companion. He does have a tendency to chase cats and small animals, so he is looking for a home without cats or small furries.________________________________________ His Ideal HomeAladdin would thrive in a calm, understanding home where he can continue building confidence while also enjoying life and adventures with his people. His ideal home would be:• Calm and predictable• Patient and understanding• With access to lovely walks and outdoor time• Happy to continue building trust and confidence• Understanding of a slightly sensitive dog• With a calm canine companion________________________________________ The Right OwnerAladdin needs someone who enjoys building a genuine bond with a dog and understands that trust is something precious. We are looking for someone who is:• Kind and patient• Calm and reassuring• Happy to continue confidence-building• ‍️ Looking for a fun and loyal companion• ️ Ready to truly include their dog in daily life________________________________________ A Few Details• Medium-sized• ️ Beautiful fluffy double coat• Loves toys• ‍️ Walks beautifully on lead• Good with many dogs• No cats or small animals• Slightly skittish but making wonderful progress• Requires a few visits before adoption________________________________________ Why Aladdin?Aladdin is the kind of dog who will absolutely blossom in the right home. He may not want to spend time with every stranger immediately, but when he bonds with you, it feels incredibly genuine and special. He is funny, affectionate, gentle and full of personality, and whoever finally gives this beautiful boy his chance is going to gain a truly wonderful companion. After almost 600 days waiting, we would love nothing more than to finally see Aladdin curled up safely in a home of his own.________________________________________If you think you could offer Aladdin the loving and understanding home he deserves, we would love to hear from you ________________________________________ Our PromiseHappy dogs in happy families is at the heart of everything we do. *** has interest ***Anita is a bundle of fun who keeps everyone here at the rescue smiling and laughing every single day. She’s got that perfect mix of cheeky charm and pure heart that makes her impossible not to love!On her walks, Anita struts proudly by your side, taking the world in her stride. She’s an absolute delight on the lead and loves any adventure you’re up for. What Anita loves even more, though, is people; she’s a true social butterfly who’ll happily say hello to everyone she meets, especially if there’s the promise of a cuddle (or a treat!) involved. When it comes to other dogs, Anita can find them a little intimidating at times, but she’s made amazing progress during her time with us. She’s now friends with some of our biggest dogs and has even taken on the role of “bodyguard” to our shy residents, patiently waiting for them on walks and making sure they feel safe. Because of this progress, Anita could potentially live with a larger dog if it’s the right match for her and introductions are done carefully.Anita does have epilepsy, which is well managed with a small tablet. We’ll be more than happy to chat with her future family about what to look out for and how best to support her, but rest assured, this doesn’t hold her back one bit. She’s as happy-go-lucky as ever and lives life to the fullest every day.Anita has truly stolen our hearts, and we can’t believe she hasn’t found her forever home yet. She’s ready to fill someone’s life with laughter, cuddles, and endless love.Anita is looking for a home where her new humans are home a lot to help her feel safe and settled after the big changes in her life recently.

There’s something wonderfully uplifting about her personality — she is the kind of dog who makes a house feel warmer and happier just by existing in it.At the same time, underneath all that sunshine, Jewel does have a slightly softer side too. She arrived with us from Romania as a very shy and uncertain girl, and although she has blossomed beautifully and come incredibly far, she can still occasionally have a little underlying anxiety in unfamiliar situations. That said, her progress has been absolutely wonderful. Kenji

Essex
SexMale
Age4 years
BreedUnknown

Meet Kenji Kenji is one of those dogs who instantly makes people smile. Big fluffy teddy-bear looks, a constantly happy expression, and a heart absolutely overflowing with love — he really is a very special boy. Despite everything life has thrown at him, Kenji has remained incredibly gentle, affectionate and full of joy. His resilience is honestly remarkable. His StoryKenji came to the UK in search of the happy life he deserved, but sadly things did not go to plan. After arriving from Bulgaria following a very long journey, the adoption fell apart almost immediately because the family involved had not fully agreed to bringing him home. Heartbreakingly, Kenji then spent over 12 hours wandering the streets of London after arriving in the middle of the night, exhausted, confused, and with nowhere to go, until we were alerted to the situation and immediately stepped in to collect him.And yet, despite everything — the exhausting journey, the uncertainty, the stress — Kenji was nothing but loving, sweet and trusting. Before arriving in the UK, Kenji had already endured an incredibly sad life, spending much of his time tied to an office chair in very poor conditions in Bulgaria before finally being rescued. (see picture)Quite simply, this boy now deserves the happiest ending imaginable. His PersonalityKenji is smiley, playful, affectionate and deeply people-oriented. He absolutely loves human company and will happily soak up all the fuss and affection you are willing to give him.He has a wonderfully soft and joyful nature about him and genuinely seems grateful for every bit of kindness he receives. Watching him relax, play, and simply enjoy being a dog feels incredibly special knowing how much he has overcome. He’s also absolutely hilarious at times — a giant fluffy baby trapped in a big teddy-bear body. If you enjoy affectionate, goofy dogs who want to be close to their people, Kenji will fit beautifully into your life. And yes… there will be fluff. Lots of it. Kenji has a beautiful double coat and will need regular brushing to keep him looking and feeling his best. If hair on the sofa horrifies you, Kenji may not be your boy. But if the idea of living with a giant cuddly teddy bear sounds perfect, he might just be your dream dog. Settling Into Home LifeKenji has adapted beautifully considering everything he has been through, but as with many rescue dogs, he may need a little support and consistency while settling into a new home routine. More than anything, Kenji simply wants stability, love and security. He is looking for a home where he is truly part of the family and not just fitting around an already chaotic lifestyle. With Other AnimalsWe genuinely do not have a bad word to say about Kenji. However, cats and small furries are very much not his thing, so he is looking for a home without them. His Ideal HomeKenji deserves a home where he can finally relax and enjoy all the love and comfort he has missed out on for so long. His ideal home would be:• Loving and settled• Where he is truly part of the family• ️ Full of affection and companionship• ⏰ Someone around much of the time initially• ‍‍ Teenagers 14+ only• Calm enough for him to properly relax and thrive The Right OwnerKenji will thrive with people who genuinely adore having their dog involved in daily life and who want a close bond with him.We are looking for someone who is:• Loving and affectionate• Patient while he settles• Understanding of rescue dogs adjusting to home life• ️ Happy to share their sofa with a fluffy giant baby• ️ Ready to make Kenji a true priority A Few Details• Large fluffy teddy-bear dog• ️ Double-coated and will need regular grooming• Extremely affectionate and people-focused• Playful and goofy• No cats or small furries• ‍‍ Teenagers 14+ only• May need support settling into home life initially Why Kenji? Some dogs are easy to love. Kenji is one of them.Despite an incredibly difficult start, he has remained soft, trusting and full of happiness. He is the kind of dog who makes people feel good just by being around him.All Kenji wants now is the life he should have always had — safety, affection, warmth, companionship and a family who truly adores him.And honestly? Meet Lola Lola is an utterly adorable little character with a huge heart and so much love to give. Through no fault of her own, she found herself needing a new home after her beloved owner sadly suffered a severe stroke and could no longer care for her.Despite everything changing around her, Lola has remained full of affection, charm and that wonderful little spark that makes her impossible not to adore. Her PersonalityLola is a true people dog. She absolutely loves company, affection and being close to her humans. If there is a lap available, a sofa to share, or someone willing to offer cuddles, Lola will be there immediately. She is playful, goofy, cheeky and full of character. What Lola Needs Right NowKennel life was a huge adjustment for Lola after living as a much-loved pet, and she understandably found it overwhelming. Thankfully, she is currently recovering in a foster home following successful BOAS surgery, and we are delighted with how well she is doing. Her breathing has improved beautifully and she is already feeling much more comfortable.Lola is also currently on a gentle weight-loss journey, which will continue to improve her comfort, wellbeing and overall quality of life. She can struggle if left for long periods and would be happiest in a home where somebody is around for most of the day. Lola truly thrives on companionship and closeness with her people. With Other DogsLola is currently quite reactive towards other dogs and is not particularly comfortable around them at this stage. Because of this, we are looking for a home where he can be the only dog. That said, we do believe there is potential for improvement with slow, calm and positive guidance. Meet MooseMoose is still very much a baby — all long legs, floppy movement and a slightly chaotic sense of how his body works — and it’s exactly what makes him so endearing. He’s the kind of puppy who is still figuring things out, occasionally a bit all over the place, but full of curiosity, character and charm. Add in his brilliant smile (which you’ll spot straight away), and you’ve got a dog who is impossible not to warm to.Rescued from Eastern Europe alongside his siblings after a poisoning incident, Moose has had a tough start — yet he’s come through it with resilience, curiosity, and a sharp, intelligent mind. A Brilliant Young MindMoose is an exceptionally intelligent, switched-on puppy, but he’s not just brains — he’s also playful, eager, and full of personality. He’s the kind of dog who wants to learn, wants to engage, and really wants to please his people. He watches, he tries, and he’s already showing just how much potential he has.At the same time, he’s still very much a young dog — a bit goofy, a bit clumsy, and very much in that lovely stage where everything is new and exciting. He won’t thrive as a “background pet” — Moose needs:* Daily mental stimulation* Ongoing training and engagement* A human who genuinely enjoys working with a clever, developing dogIn the right hands, he has everything it takes to grow into an exceptional companion. His Ideal LifeMoose didn’t grow up in a quiet suburban setting — he’s used to space, nature, and freedom, and this is something we would love to continue for him.His ideal home would be: Outdoorsy and adventurous With access to green space (not city-centre living) A family who enjoys taking their dog out and about — Moose travels brilliantly in the car‍️ A lifestyle that includes walks, exploration, and shared experiencesHe’s a dog who will want to be fully part of your life, not just fit around it. The Right OwnerMoose needs someone who truly understands dogs — this is non-negotiable.We are looking for:️ Experienced dog owners️ People who are proactive, consistent, and engaged️ Someone who enjoys training and shaping a young dogThis is not a “first dog” or a “pet on the side” situation. Moose is at a formative stage and needs someone who will invest in him properly. Children & Other Considerations No children — Moose can show some guarding around toys, so we will not place him in a home with children. Other dogs — as above, a playful larger companion would be ideal. SizeWe expect Moose to grow into a medium to large-sized dog, though his exact size is still to be confirmed. Why Moose?Moose is that wonderful mix of clever, goofy and full of promise. He’s still figuring out the world — and himself — which makes him incredibly fun to be around, but also means he needs the right guidance. With the right person, he will grow into a dog who is not only intelligent and capable, but also deeply connected, affectionate and full of character — the kind of dog who becomes a real part of your life.If you think you can offer Moose the adventure-filled, engaging and loving home he needs, please fill in an enquiry form — we would love to hear from you ️Note: Moose has a negative brucellosis blood test. Meet Nellie Nellie has found herself homeless for the third time in her short life — and heartbreakingly, none of it has ever been her fault. Passed from place to place without the stability every dog deserves, we would now love nothing more than for Nellie to finally find the forever home where she can truly settle and be cherished. She is a beautiful medium-sized girl with a playful spirit, a loving heart, and so much affection to give. Her PersonalityNellie is affectionate, playful, funny and wonderfully full of life. It has been lovely watching her begin to feel healthier, stronger and more comfortable in herself again, and we look forward to seeing her continue to flourish in the right home. She is also a very pretty girl with a lovely feminine energy about her — affectionate, sweet and full of charm. Growing in ConfidenceNellie is a sensitive dog who has understandably developed a few insecurities after such an unsettled start in life. She has shown a little bit of reactivity at times, but this is very manageable and clearly comes from uncertainty rather than anything more serious. She responds very well to calm guidance, reassurance and structure, and we do not feel this will be a significant issue in the future with the right handling and continued support.Nellie is house trained, loves her people, and truly wants to feel safe and secure again. With Other DogsNellie generally gets on well with other dogs and has lovely friendships at the kennels — especially with young Trimi, who she absolutely adores. However, following an experience in a previous home where another dog was not comfortable with her and Nellie defended herself, we feel that in order to set everybody up for success, Nellie would be happiest as the only dog in the home. This is not because she dislikes all dogs — quite the opposite. We simply feel she will thrive best in an environment where she can fully relax and not have to navigate those dynamics within the home. Her Ideal HomeNellie would love a home where she can finally feel stable, loved and included as part of the family. Her ideal home would be:• Calm but active• Affectionate and engaging• ‍️ Happy to give her proper daily walks and adventures• Open to continuing positive guidance and structure• As the only dog in the home• ‍ Teenagers or adults only The Right OwnerNellie will thrive with someone who understands that slightly sensitive dogs often become the most deeply bonded and rewarding companions. We are looking for someone who is:• Kind and patient• Happy to continue building her confidence• ‍️ Active enough for a fun and energetic dog• Calm and reassuring• ️ Looking for a loving, affectionate companion A Few Details• Medium-sized• Very affectionate and people-oriented• ‍️ Energetic and playful• House trained• No cats or small furries• Best as the only dog in the home• Sensitive but progressing beautifully• Loves human attention and affection Why Nellie?Nellie is the kind of dog who just wants to love and be loved. Meet Peggy Peggy is one of those dogs who quietly steals hearts without even trying. With her soft scruffy coat, elegant little face and wonderfully expressive ears, she has a look that is completely unforgettable — somewhere between a storybook character, a vintage teddy bear, and perhaps, if you ask us, just a tiny hint of goat. Originally arriving in the UK from Spain, Peggy’s story has certainly been memorable. Shortly after arriving, she managed to escape and became a little local celebrity while on the run around Bracknell. During her adventures, she happily accepted snacks, joined neighbourhood dogs on walks, and charmed everyone she met from a safe distance. Eventually, she was safely trapped by the lost dog team, and since then she has come on enormously in confidence. Her PersonalityPeggy is an incredibly gentle, funny and astute dog with a lovely quiet humour about her. There is absolutely not a bad bone in her body. In fact, Peggy is often our “go-to” dog when visitors come to walk rescue dogs because she is so beautifully behaved out and about. She walks wonderfully on the lead and is a really lovely companion to spend time with. She also seems completely aware whenever a camera appears. The second Peggy notices she’s being photographed, out comes the expression, the pose, and the little smile. She honestly looks like one of those vintage teddy bears with perfect glass bead eyes — soulful, delicate and impossibly endearing. There is something almost storybook-like about her. Peggy has the energy of a gentle Jane Austen heroine — deeply lovable, quietly special, and full of a soft, authentic sweetness that slowly wins people over. One moment Peggy seems completely lost in her own little thoughts, quietly watching the world go by, and the next she is happily photobombing with one of her wonderfully funny expressions. That balance of gentle sensitivity and unexpected humour is a huge part of what makes her so special. She may initially take a little time to fully relax around new people, but she has already come such a long way from the nervous girl she once was. We genuinely believe that once Peggy fully settles into a home and routine of her own, she is going to become an incredibly affectionate and deeply bonded companion. Growing in ConfidencePeggy still has a naturally slightly skittish side to her, and she will need adopters who understand that confidence-building is a journey. However, she has progressed beautifully and continues to grow in confidence all the time. She simply needs relaxed, understanding people who are happy to let her settle naturally without pressure. Peggy is not looking to be somebody’s instant lap dog on day one — she is looking for people who will enjoy building a genuine bond with her over time. With Other DogsOther dogs are Peggy’s absolute happy place. She gets on beautifully with dogs and has a wonderfully calming and social nature around them. Dogs genuinely help Peggy feel brave, and we very strongly feel she should live with at least one confident, friendly resident dog.She is the kind of dog who brings out the best in other dogs too — calm, easy-going and quietly social. Her Ideal HomePeggy would love a home where she can continue blossoming at her own pace while enjoying the company of both humans and dogs. Her ideal home would be:• Have at least one friendly resident dog• Patient and understanding• Happy to let Peggy settle naturally• Secure and mindful while she adjusts• Adult-only home• Relaxed people who appreciate her sweet personality The Right OwnerPeggy needs someone who understands that the most special dogs are often the ones who unfold slowly over time.We are looking for someone who is:• Kind and patient• Relaxed and understanding• Happy to build trust gradually• Able to offer canine companionship• ️ Looking for a truly meaningful bond with a dog A Few Details• Medium-sized• Gentle and beautifully behaved• Loves other dogs• Walks very nicely on the lead• Needs a resident dog in the home• Can be an escape risk if overwhelmed• Adult-only home• Continues to blossom in confidence Why Peggy?Peggy is funny, elegant, deeply gentle and wonderfully unique. *** HAS INTEREST*** Meet Pixel Pixel is a delightful little character who has found himself in rescue at just over a year old through absolutely no fault of his own.His previous owner made the difficult decision to rehome him after tensions developed between Pixel and the resident dog in the home. Sadly, Pixel found himself on the receiving end of a difficult dynamic, and the dogs ultimately needed to be kept separate. Since arriving with us, however, Pixel has been a lovely little boy to have around and has settled in beautifully. He is now looking for a home that will truly embrace him as part of the family and continue helping him grow into the wonderful little companion we know he is going to become. His PersonalityPixel is full of life, enthusiasm and cheeky little charm. He is affectionate, playful and incredibly engaging to be around, with the kind of personality that keeps you smiling throughout the day.As a young dog, he still has lots of puppy-like energy and curiosity about the world. He enjoys being involved in everyday life and would love a home where people genuinely enjoy spending time with their dog and including them in adventures, outings and activities. He’s the sort of little dog who wants to be part of everything and is happiest when life is happening around him. Still Learning About the WorldAt just over a year old, Pixel is still learning and developing, and his future family should be excited about continuing his training and helping shape him into a brilliant adult dog.He is an active little boy who enjoys walks, stimulation and engagement, and he will thrive with people who have the time and enthusiasm for a young, energetic companion. Pixel has lived successfully with cats and has coped well with home life previously. With Other DogsPixel has been absolutely fine with us at the rescue and generally mixes well with other dogs. While we cannot guarantee that every dog pairing will be the right fit, we do not feel Pixel himself was the root of the issues in his previous home.As with all sensible introductions, any potential dog siblings would need to meet Pixel properly at the kennels first to ensure everybody feels comfortable and happy. His Ideal HomePixel is looking for a home where he can truly be included as part of the family and continue enjoying life as the fun, active little dog he is.His ideal home would be:• Loving and engaging• With people who have time for a young dog• ‍️ Active and happy to include him in daily life• Interested in continuing training and development• Happy to do proper dog introductions if another dog is present The Right OwnerPixel will thrive with someone who enjoys the fun and chaos that comes with a young dog and sees the joy in helping them mature into an amazing companion. We are looking for someone who is:• Affectionate and involved• Happy to continue training and guidance• ‍️ Active and engaged• Understanding that young dogs are still learning• ️ Looking for a fun little sidekick A Few Details• Chihuahua x French Bulldog cross• Friendly and affectionate• ‍️ Active little dog• Has lived with cats• ‍‍ Could live with respectful children or teenagers• Young and still learning• Dog introductions required if living with another dog• ️ Pixel will leave on a neutering contractIf you think you could offer Pixel the loving and active home he deserves, we would absolutely love to hear from you Our PromiseHappy dogs in happy families is at the heart of everything we do.
