CambridgeshireLooking for a loving home.
Lurcher SOS is a Suffolk-based rescue charity dedicated to helping lurchers, greyhounds, whippets, salukis, and other sighthounds in need. Founded in 2010 by lifelong lurcher owners, the charity operates through a network of volunteers, foster homes, and supporters across the UK. Lurcher SOS focuses on rescuing dogs at risk, including those facing euthanasia, from the UK and abroad, providing rehabilitation in foster homes rather than kennels. All dogs receive full veterinary care before adoption, and the charity relies entirely on public donations and fundraising to continue its life-saving work.

Lurcher SOS
Brandy has settled into her foster home beautifully and is proving to be an exceptionally gentle, loving and people-focused girl. From the moment she arrived she was inquisitive and affectionate, happily making eye contact and coming over for a stroke. Now she loves nothing more than being close to her humans, following them from room to room to see what they are up to before curling up on the sofa or a cosy dog bed for a snooze. She is extremely affectionate and soft-natured, always keen for a cuddle or a gentle fuss. Brandy also has a playful side and especially enjoys a game of fetch, both in the house and out on walks. She loves carrying soft toys around, although woolly hats and children’s teddies may also be claimed if left within reach! She doesn’t destroy them, they just tend to get a bit soggy…In the home Brandy is calm, clean and easy to live with. She is fully house trained and shows no guarding behaviour around food, toys, beds or people. She settles well and has been left for up to four hours with another dog without any issues. She may whine a little if left in a room on her own while you are at home, simply because she prefers to be where the people are! She does not rely on another dog for confidence and would be just as happy as an only hound or living with others. However, if she is an only dog, she finds being left home alone a bit stressful and would need ongoing training and support to make her truly comfortable being left alone.Brandy is a dream on walks. She walks beautifully on a loose lead by your side and is calm and confident in public places and around traffic. She is friendly and polite with people and dogs of all sizes, either ignoring them or gently going over to say hello. She enjoys a little play with other dogs but is equally content to just do her own thing.Out in the woods she really comes to life, sniffing, exploring and keeping an eye out for squirrels and deer, as she does have a high prey drive. A secure lead and sensible management will be needed in wildlife-rich areas.Brandy travels in the car but currently needs lifting into the boot, which should improve with a little training and tasty treats. She is not yet responsive to her name or commands, but she is very food motivated, especially for anything fishy, and keen to please, so this will come with time and consistency.Brandy is 3½ years old, stands 25 inches at the shoulder and weighs 26kg. She is in foster in Norfolk and is ready to find her forever home. She will make a wonderfully loyal, loving companion for someone looking for a gentle, affectionate hound who enjoys both countryside adventures and sofa snuggles.

Daithi is a gorgeous lad with a gentle heart who is ready for his second chance. Around four years old, he stands at approximately 24 inches to the shoulder and weighs 25 kg. Since being in foster, he’s been learning what it means to live in a home and is making lovely progress every single day. He’s a calm, affectionate boy indoors who thrives on routine and loves to relax on his bed or in his crate, where he sleeps happily with the door open. He settles very quickly when left for up to three hours and has great house manners. He’s clean in the house, although he still needs guidance to ask to go out, so ongoing training will be important. He doesn’t counter surf, has no guarding issues, and currently stays off the furniture. He’s recently learnt how to sit and is very keen to please.Daithi’s confidence is growing all the time. He’s now happily using the stairs indoors, his tail is wagging more, and he’s choosing to come over for cuddles. He loves time with his people and really enjoys pottering about or playing in the garden, where he’s incredibly well behaved and not barky. He has the occasional burst of zoomies, especially after dinner or at bedtime, which is very sweet to see. Toys are still a bit of a mystery to him, but treats definitely aren’t, especially licky mats and snuffle balls.Out on walks, Daithi really comes into his own. He absolutely loves the countryside and settles beautifully indoors after a good walk. He does need regular exercise to help him relax, and will need two to three good walks a day, around 90 minutes in total. He walks nicely on the lead most of the time and has excellent recall indoors and in the garden. He can still be unsure on certain surfaces and environments, such as metal stairs or some types of flooring, and can feel overwhelmed in busy or unfamiliar situations. He benefits from gentle reassurance and looks to his humans for support. A quieter rural home or peaceful town setting would suit him best.Daithi gets on well with other dogs and has grown in confidence socialising, not just with sighthounds but with calmer dogs of other breeds too. He enjoys their company and would be happy living with another relaxed, confident dog, male or female, although he could also live as an only dog with the right support. His prey drive has increased as his confidence has grown, so he’s not cat friendly, and care is needed around small dogs at first until he realises they’re dogs. He’s generally polite when meeting new people and is becoming more relaxed, often choosing to ignore visitors or occasionally asking for a gentle fuss. He can still have the odd wobble with new or less familiar people, where something unexpected can spook him and he may need space and time to settle again. With calm handling and reassurance, he recovers well. He travels well in the car, responds to his name, and is an easy, pleasant companion to have around the home.Daithi is a beautiful boy inside and out. He’s sensitive and thoughtful, with so much love to give, and he just needs patient, understanding humans and a calm environment to help him continue building confidence. With consistency, kindness, and possibly a canine friend, he’ll make a truly loyal and rewarding companion.Daithi is currently in foster in East Sussex. If you’re looking for a gentle, affectionate lurcher and can offer a quiet lifestyle, lovely walks, and lots of reassurance, Daithi could be the perfect addition to your family.

Luther is a beautiful cream coloured boy who is around 5 years old and measures approximately 23.5 inches TTS.He has recently arrived into our care and is still settling into rescue life, so everything is quite new and a little overwhelming for him at the moment. Because of this, Luther can be a little nervous while he finds his feet.Luther has already been castrated and has had his first vaccinations. As he grows in confidence and we get to know him better, we will share more updates about his personality and the kind of home that would suit him best.

Ozzie is an affectionate, playful and deeply engaging boy with a huge personality and an even bigger heart. Described by his foster family as a true “soul dog”, he quickly steals hearts with his cheeky charm, loving nature and joyful outlook on life. Curious and clever, he loves to be involved in whatever his people are doing and will happily follow you around the home just to be part of things. He has a wonderfully goofy side, from his floppy ears that sometimes turn inside out to his impressive snoring once he settles down for a nap. Ozzie enjoys toys, enrichment games and puzzle activities, and he learns new routines and commands very quickly. He responds beautifully to gentle guidance and positive reinforcement, making him a rewarding dog to live and train with.Recently, Ozzie received a diagnosis of a progressive eye condition. He is expected to become fully blind within the next 18 months. Despite this, his spirit is strong, and he still has so much love to give. He is looking for a patient and understanding home, ideally with someone experienced with blind or sight-impaired dogs, or someone willing to learn and give him the time and support he needs. In familiar environments Ozzie moves around well, enjoys zoomies in the garden and loves exploring the world through scent and sound. Occasionally unfamiliar or moving objects can worry him when he cannot clearly see what they are, but calm reassurance helps him regain confidence quickly. Verbal cues and consistent routines help him feel safe and secure.Ozzie loves his walks, enjoys meeting people politely and has shown calm manners around other dogs when introductions are relaxed. He can feel unsure if startled by sudden or overly reactive dogs, which is understandable given his limited vision, but he settles quickly with reassurance. He is a bright, playful dog who is still learning about home life and appropriate play manners, and he responds well to clear boundaries. Ozzie bonds closely with his people and feels happiest when included in daily life. Like many dogs adjusting to a new environment, he initially showed some anxiety when separated from his humans, but he settles well once he feels safe and secure and will continue to grow in confidence with patience and consistency.Ozzie settled quickly into house training in foster care, with early accidents reducing as he relaxed into routine. With stability and reassurance in a permanent home, this progress is expected to continue.Ozzie is looking for a patient and understanding home willing to support him as he adapts to sight loss and continues learning about life in a home environment. In return, he offers endless affection, loyalty and companionship, and will make a joyful and devoted best friend to the lucky person who gives him the chance he deserves.Could you be the person to help Ozzie feel safe, happy, and cherished as he navigates life with sight loss?

Ralphy is a gorgeous, affectionate boy with a huge heart and a love for life’s simple pleasures. He is calm, cuddly and deeply people oriented, the kind of dog who wants to be wherever you are and will happily curl up beside you for a stroke or a snooze. He’s 8 years old and around 32kg, and a German Shepherd X Lurcher. In the home, Ralphy is a dream. He is relaxed, clean and well mannered, happy to follow you from room to room before settling on his bed when things are quiet. He has been brilliant while his foster carer works from home, calmly chilling all day until it’s time for a walk. He sleeps in his hallway bed overnight and greets you cheerfully in the morning.Ralphy is very affectionate and thrives on human contact. Sofa time is his favourite time, and if the strokes stop, you might get a gentle nudge to remind you. He has no food guarding issues, eats gently, takes treats nicely and is happy to share. He can be left for a few hours without barking or chewing and is fully toilet trained.Out and about, Ralphy has made fantastic progress. He initially pulled on the lead but is now walking nicely with consistent cues and praise. Loose lead walking is still a work in progress, especially if squirrels are involved, but he is eager to learn and improving all the time. He ignores bikes, runners and passing people, and responds well to “leave it” when spotting wildlife. He enjoys off lead runs in an enclosed field and is beginning to ignore birds too, suggesting his prey drive is often more excitement than intent.Ralphy travels well in the car and loves looking out of the window. He adores toys, especially anything squeaky, and will happily empty the toy box in search of his favourites. He loves playing with his foster Labrador and would really enjoy having a confident canine companion. Although he has lived as an only dog for many years, he would benefit from sharing his home with another friendly dog, ideally another lurcher to run and play with.He is generally good with other dogs when introductions are handled sensibly. He may bark at unfamiliar dogs at first but settles quickly when guided. He is fine with dogs he knows, including smaller dogs he has already met, though we would advise careful introductions with small dogs. Ralphy is not cat friendly and would need a cat free home.Ralphy can be a little anxious around some strangers, particularly if he feels crowded. He prefers people to let him approach in his own time. He has been affectionate and relaxed with many male and female visitors, but a calm, understanding home would suit him best. Because of his size and sensitivity, he would not be suitable for a home with children. His recall is improving and he responds well to his name indoors and in the garden, as well as to the promise of a squeaky tennis ball. Until this is fully reliable, he would benefit from a long line or secure spaces for off lead fun.Ralphy is frightened of fireworks and would need a home willing to support him during noisy events. Adaptil has already helped him cope better.Ralphy is a loving, loyal companion who just wants a peaceful home, gentle guidance and plenty of affection. In return, he will give you constant companionship, endless cuddles and a warm presence by your side.If you’re looking for a calm, affectionate dog who will quickly become your shadow and your best friend, Ralphy could be the one for you.

Rufus is a truly scrumptious sighthound who has made wonderful progress since coming into our care. When he arrived he was very underweight and unfamiliar with home life, but he is now thriving in foster and enjoying all the comforts that come with it, especially sofas and snuggles. He is 26 inches TTS, and weighs 24kg.Rufus is an incredibly affectionate and cuddly boy who adores human company. He is a real people dog, sometimes a little shy at first, but he quickly warms up and then believes wholeheartedly in personal space being optional. He is playful, curious and a bit of a goofball, with a lovely silly side that makes him a joy to live with.He is now fully toilet trained, though he may have the odd accident in a brand new environment. He can be left for short periods and is currently comfortable with around 20 minutes, with this gradually being built up. Rufus will settle in a crate when given a high value chew. He enjoys enrichment toys, treat puzzles, soft toys and has recently discovered balls. On walks, Rufus is generally friendly or unbothered by people and dogs depending on their energy, but this is his biggest area for ongoing training. He is a frustrated greeter and will bark at other dogs until he can say hello, then bark again once they leave. He also has a high prey drive and will pull on the lead if he spots cats, foxes or dogs. Because of this, Rufus will need a home committed to continuing his training, ideally with sighthound experience.Rufus can live as an only dog and would be very happy soaking up all the attention, though with careful introductions he may enjoy a calm canine companion in the future. He may be slightly better suited to living with small dogs than larger ones, but this would need to be managed sensibly. He does not guard toys or food generally, though he has very occasionally growled if a high value treat has been taken away.He has a moderate energy level and is not a high energy dog. He is happy with one proper walk and a gentle stroll each day, provided he also gets enrichment, playtime and plenty of naps. Rufus travels in the car but finds it stressful, so daily car journeys would not suit him.Rufus is learning quickly and is responsive to his name. He knows sit and is currently learning lie down and shake. He is very food motivated and keen to please, which will help with his ongoing training.Rufus is currently in foster in South London and we are now accepting applications for him. He would thrive in a calm, patient home that understands sighthounds and is happy to continue building his confidence and skills. In return, Rufus will offer endless affection, laughter and some of the best cuddles you could ask for.

Ted is a sensitive, gentle lurcher with a huge heart and a deeply affectionate nature once he feels safe. He is a quiet soul who has clearly experienced a lot in his past, and while the world can feel overwhelming for him at times, there is not a single ounce of aggression in him. Those who earn his trust are rewarded with the softest cuddles, face nuzzles and a dog who truly adores his people. At home, Ted is very calm and incredibly lazy. He sleeps a lot, loves soft beds and sofas, and settles beautifully after a walk. He is fully clean in the house and can hold himself for long periods, especially in poor weather. Since starting Fluoxetine and with careful, gradual training, he can now be left for up to a couple of hours without distress, provided he has been walked first and is settled.Ted is affectionate in his own gentle way. He may appear aloof at first, but with his trusted people he will happily climb onto laps, press his head into your face for kisses and show just how loving he really is. He is extremely docile and tolerant, with no guarding issues in his current home and excellent manners around food and handling.Walks are Ted’s biggest challenge. He does want to go out and enjoys exploring, but he is highly anxious and easily overwhelmed by sounds, movement and other dogs. He may freeze when he hears voices, barking or unfamiliar noises, or become distressed if he sees dogs even at a distance. For this reason, he is always muzzled on walks and wears a red coat to signal that he needs space. Quiet, rural style walks with plenty of distance from triggers suit him best.Ted is not reactive in the home, but visitors can be difficult for him. With a clear routine, calm handling and the help of treats, he can settle reasonably quickly, though he remains wary and may vocalise if people move around unexpectedly. He does not seek attention from visitors and prefers to keep his distance. An adult only home with minimal visitors, or adopters confident in managing introductions, would suit him best.Ted would be happiest as an only dog. While he has tolerated brief, carefully managed greetings, other dogs significantly increase his anxiety outdoors and day to day life is easier for him without canine housemates. He travels in the car and will get in willingly, though he can be vocal and anxious, particularly if he sees people or dogs nearby. His prey drive is high, typical of a sighthound, and he will need secure handling and a very secure garden.Ted is food motivated and capable of learning, but training must be gentle, patient and entirely on his terms. Progress comes slowly, but it does come, and he has already made meaningful improvements with the right support.Ted is not a dog for everyone. He needs an experienced, understanding home that values quiet companionship over busy adventures. In return, he will offer unwavering loyalty, deep affection and the knowledge that you have changed the life of a truly gentle soul who just needs the world to slow down for him.If you are sighthound savvy, calm, patient and ready to offer Ted the safe, predictable home he deserves, he could be the most rewarding companion you will ever have.
