About Makants Greyhound Rescue

Makants Greyhound Rescue is a registered greyhound rescue charity founded in 2013 and based in Tyldesley, Greater Manchester. The charity is dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming greyhounds in need, with a particular focus on ex-racing dogs as well as greyhounds whose owners can no longer care for them. Since its founding, Makants has successfully found forever homes for more than 740 greyhounds. All dogs are fully assessed and receive essential veterinary care, including neutering, vaccination, and microchipping, before adoption. Run entirely by volunteers, the charity relies on public support and fundraising to continue giving greyhounds a safe route into loving homes.

Alice is a character, is full of personality and doesn't want to miss a thing. She especially loves toys and to pinch them off other greyhounds if possible!Alice is a very affectionate girl with all our volunteers and also loves to spend time with the other greyhounds. She has already spent some time in our enrichment (home from home) room which she fully inspected, enjoyed playing with toys, but was quite curious about the T.V. on the wall. For Alice we’re looking for a home with someone who has experience of larger dogs, but not necessarily greyhounds. We feel Alice would be happy to live as an only hound or could equally happily live with another male hound. She would benefit from the company of an adopter who is at home a large amount of time, and this is especially important during the initial settling in phase. We feel Alice would be best suited to live with older children 13 plus. Details of our homing requirements, along with an application form, can be found on

Six year old DUKE joined us on 26th April 2025 and soon settled in.He enjoys his daily walks with our volunteers and is slowly getting used to other breeds of dog and is often excited to see them - in a positive way. DUKE has also enjoyed a day out with our volunteer Nick and visited Windy Bank Woods and Bents garden centre. He described him as 'walking so well on his lead, even when confronted by an angry terrier!' Having also spent some time in the enrichment room he's already had many new experiences and is more than ready for his forever home. With a 'happy, go lucky' temperament, we've found DUKE absolutely loves playing with toys too!We feel DUKE could be homed on his own or would be equally happy to live with a female greyhound. Six year old EXPRESS arrived with us on the 12th November 2024 and settled in well. Initially he was a little wary and took some time to get to know our volunteers and routine, but soon started to relax. His confidence has continued to increase with each passing day.At the beginning Express was reactive towards other breeds of dog that he met on his daily walks. Through daily exposure - and guidance from our walking volunteers - his behaviour has changed and he can now walk past any breed of dog calmly. He also enjoys a fuss after his walk and has spent some time in our enrichment room with our volunteers. He particularly loves zooming around our sand paddock!Recently Express enjoyed some time away from kennels, walking in Worsley woods where he had new experiences including noisy trucks and workmen laying a new path. We're pleased to say he took everything in his stride and was particularly happy to meet one of our volunteers and her hounds while on their walk.We are grateful to our volunteers for enabling Express to have new experiences such as this, all of which is vital preparation for his new life as a pet.We are looking for a quiet home for Express with someone who has some greyhound/large dog experience. 5 year old GARETH arrived with us on the 10th March 2025. He was a little timid at first but settled in after a couple of weeks. Now he is used to our routine he looks forward to walk time and also loves to receive as much fuss as possible from our volunteers. Gareth walks well on the lead and is fine when meeting other breeds of dog when out and about. Although by nature he can be a little cautious of new people and new situations, Gareth has really gained in confidence during his time with us.Described by Siobhan as a 'handsome boy' he is an easy hound to care for and has a quiet, calm nature. Having said this he is also a playful boy and loves to play with his toys. We are looking for an adopter with some experience of owning a dog, not necessarily a greyhound. Gareth could live with another large breed dog or would be equally as happy to be the only hound in the house. Any children would need to be 13 plus. Adoption Info LADDIE LADDIED.O.B. September 2019Six year old LADDIE joined us on the 18th November 2022. Described by Siobhan as a 'lovely gentle and friendly lad', LADDIE has settled in well. He loves a cuddle and gets on well with all our female greyhounds, but with male greyhounds he is a little more picky who he spends his time with. Laddie can be an anxious boy at times if he finds himself in a new situation but can be reassured by his regular walkers who he ABSOLUTELY loves. *We are looking for an ADULT ONLY HOME for Laddie.* Recently Laddie has enjoyed time spent in our sensory garden and also loves volunteers spending time with him after walks in his kennel (as these photos show)

REGGIE arrived with us in April 2024 and soon settled in. We’ve found him to be a friendly and affectionate boy who loves fuss and his toys in equal measure. He loves to meet any visitors to kennels and laps up the attention! He recently spent some time 'helping' our volunteer John in the sand paddock as he loves human company - and loves to see what's going on! REGGIE also likes his daily walks and can get excited initially when going out but soon settles down. His reactivity towards other breeds has really lessened now thanks to work undertaken by our walking volunteers. REGGIE is a very loving dog. We think he would be happy to live as an only dog as he would love nothing more than having all the humans to himself. We're looking for people with some experience of owning a large dog, not necessarily a greyhound, for him.More details on our homing requirements, along with an application form, can be found on our website photo Shilpa Grewal, Jo Maxwell, Sharon Middling, Miriam Payne

6 year old STORM arrived with us on the 8th November 2023. On arrival STORM was very timid as everything was new to her. As she has settled in, and after being given some time, she has improved and is now making great progress gaining confidence day by day. This is in part thanks to the support of our volunteers and the new experiences they are able to offer her. However, STORM still remains anxious at times and can be sensitive to loud noises.STORM enjoys frequent trips out in a volunteers' car to a nearby area where she enjoys her walks and has had many new experiences - which she has coped well with. Storm travels well in the car and is not reactive to other breeds of dog she meets on her walks. She particularly enjoys spending time in water if she can, and also loves a good run around in our on site sand paddock.Siobhan describes Storm as a 'lovely, gentle soul'. She is happy and relaxed in her kennel and quite playful with volunteers she knows and trusts. We feel STORM would thrive in a home with at least one other dog for company and would gain confidence from following their lead.We are looking for a quiet home for Storm without small children as they make her anxious. Anyone interested in adopting Storm would need to spend considerable time at kennels getting to know her as part of the pre adoption process. We also feel Storm would also need someone at home for the initial β€˜settling in’ period. Information on our homing requirements, along with an application form, can be found on our website
