About Mid Antrim Animal Sanctuary

Mid Antrim Animal Sanctuary, established in 1996, is dedicated to rehoming animals, delivering education and relieving the distress of unwanted cats and dogs across Northern Ireland. Operating a strict no-kill policy, the sanctuary rehomes around 650 animals each year, ensuring all are vaccinated, neutered, treated for parasites and microchipped before adoption, with lifetime backup if needed. Animals who cannot be rehomed are offered lifelong shelter and care at the sanctuary. Guided by the Five Domains model, the organisation prioritises both physical welfare and mental wellbeing through proper nutrition, healthcare, positive reinforcement training and daily enrichment.

Bert certainly appreciates a slow introduction but he is a little guy that’s worth taking the time to get to know. This means that potential adopters would need to be prepared to make lots of visits to the Sanctuary over quite a period of time in order to build up a positive relationship with Bert. When Bert learns to trust you get to see a lovely playful little guy full of energy.Bert also struggles with some resource guarding issues so we would prefer adopters to have knowledge of resource guarding and be prepared to manage this behaviour in a positive way.Bert will be part of our Aprils Wish program so you will have the added benefit of some sessions with a highly qualified behaviourist pre- and post- adoption in an effort to help you understand and manage Bert’s issues.Due to his issues, Bert will need an adult only home.Although Bert has been an only dog we will consider homes with other dogs pending successful meet and greets.AN APPLICATION FORM MUST BE COMPLETED TO BE CONSIDERED We are open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 1.30pm – 4.00pm.If you are interested in offering this dog a home and you meet the criteria listed, then please click on the following link to complete an online application or visit us during the above days and times. If you are being considered we will be in touch to arrange an appointment for you to meet the dog and start the rehoming process. All parts of the form must be completed to ensure your application can be processedIf you are being considered to commence the adoption process you will receive a call from a mobile number ending in 081; due to time constraints there will be a limited timescale to answer or respond to our message.https://midantrim.org/dog-application

Buzz And Benji

Northern Ireland
SexMale
AgeUnknown
BreedLabrador

Males 9 Years LabradorsReason for surrender- noise complaints from neighbours but bearing in mind there were 4 dogs in total in the house. These two are big softies in their senior years. We really hope it’s not a lengthy stay in kennels. They do cope completely grand apart from each other so we will consider applications for them both together or separately.Buzz is an oversized lapdog weighing in at 43 kg! He doesn’t realise this though and insists on sitting on your knee for bum scratches. Buzz had surgery on his knee aged 2 years old and that coupled with his senior years leaves him needing pain relief.Benji is a little smaller at 33 kg. Benji likes to walk around carrying a toy, he has a particularly love for his burger toy. Benji has a luxating patella but it doesn’t cause him any great issue. Again though with his senior years he is on daily pain relief to make him more comfortable. These two could live with other dogs pending successful meet and greets.Benji and Buzz could live with children of any age who have a sensible approach to dogs. .* .We are open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 1.30pm – 3.30pm.If you are interested in offering this dog a home and you meet the criteria listed, then please click on the following link to complete an online application or visit us during the above days and times. If you are being considered, we will be in touch to arrange an appointment for you to meet the dog and start the rehoming process. All parts of the form must be completed to ensure your application can be processedIf you are being considered to commence the adoption process you will receive a call from a number ending in 081 or 993; due to time constraints there will be a limited timescale to answer or respond to our message.Dog Adoption Application

Freddie, a 8 years old male Cavalier King Charles Spaniel X Bichon Frise available for adoption from Mid Antrim in Northern Ireland

Mid Antrim

Freddie

Northern Ireland
SexMale
Age8 years
BreedCavalier King Charles Spaniel X Bichon Frise

Freddie Male 7 1/2 Years Cavalier x BichonFreddie has had numerous stays in the sanctuary. We are determined that Freddies next adoption will be successful.Freddie has displayed aggression on numerous occasions in the past. Most of these incidents have been around resource guarding of items he considers valuable to him, or reacting fearfully when being interrupted where he is resting. Our behaviourist has indicated there may have been a pain element to this. Freddie has now been on a pain relief and hopefully he will be more comfortable in future.Cute things about Freddie –His little underbite. The way he waddles when he walks. His fave toys- dinosaur, octopus and caterpillar. His enthusiast morning greetings to his fave people.Freddie is the most clearest example we have seen of a dog preferring women over men. With having had so many unsuccessful adoptions we will now saying that Freddie should live in a female only home. There must be no children living or visiting the home. Prospective adopters should be prepared to work with our behaviourist and staff at the sanctuary to help set the home and Freddie up for success. Adopters should be tuned in to dog body language and have experience of dealing with similar behaviour issues. Some small dogs feel the need to shout louder to be listened to so it is important we listen to Freddie’s communication.Assistance will be provided by way of our Aprils Wish program to help with behaviour. Further assistance will be provided by our supported adoption scheme where we will continue to pay for Freddie’s pain relief.Freddie may be able to live with another dog pending successful meet and greets. .* .We are open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 1.30pm – 3.30pm.If you are interested in offering this dog a home and you meet the criteria listed, then please click on the following link to complete an online application or visit us during the above days and times.
