Aussie, a 8 years old male Greyhound available for adoption from Mutts in Distress in Essex

Mutts in Distress

Aussie

Essex
SexMale
Age8 years
BreedGreyhound

This handsome boy is Aussie, sadly he is looking for a new home through no fault of his own. Unfortunately Aussie's owner is unable to care for him due to health issues. This decision has not come lightly to the owner. Aussie has been in boarding kennels before his owner made the decision, he has shown himself to be a very good boy. Aussie is a Sighthound cross from Romania and has been in this country since late 2017/ early 2018 and he was only a pup when he came over (judging by his passport). He is 8 years old now and is used to home comforts. Aussie is halti trained and was used to regular walks with a dog walker, (now exercised daily on our paddock). His previous owner has said he is a very good boy in the house and absolutely adores affection. Aussie was used to a quiet home, with a solo owner but due to his outgoing personality, he could potentially live with a family who have teenage children. Aussie is said not to mind other dogs, providing they do not get in his face / or overly interested in him. It would be so lovely to find Aussie another home, sooner rather than later.

Bear, a 9 months old male Rottweiler X Akita available for adoption from Mutts in Distress in Essex

Mutts in Distress

Bear

Essex
SexMale
Age9 months
BreedRottweiler X Akita

Meet Bear a beautiful crossbreed (said to be Rottweiler x Akita). He is only a baby at 9 months old and has had a really horrific start to his short life. Bear came to Mutts after being abandoned in a flat. He was left alone in this flat for several months with someone feeding him through a letter box, surrounded by his own faeces and urine. Despite going through this, he has been totally forgiving of people. He is happy to have attention from the volunteers and even came out on our very busy funday event to greet strangers in the crowd. Bear would enjoy a dog free home. Not cat tested. He could possibly live with older teenagers who are used to larger breeds. Large breed experience is best preferred for Bear. There must be someone out there able to give this beautiful boy the home he deserves and to show him love. He will make an amazing companion for someone.

Charlie, a 7 years old female Cocker Spaniel X English Springer Spaniel available for adoption from Mutts in Distress in Essex

Mutts in Distress

Charlie

Essex
SexFemale
Age7 years
BreedCocker Spaniel X English Springer Spaniel

This is Charlie. We’ve been taking the time to assess him, so we could be certain on the type of home he requires. Charlie is a Cocker spaniel (possibly crossed with a springer), he is 7 years old. Charlie is looking for an experienced handler, ideally someone who understands the breed/s. Spaniels are working dogs and most need an outlet to keep them happy in life - Charlie is no exception. Charlie is toy/ food motivated and is a very quick learner. He really enjoys activities that get his brain working - he would not be happy with just a walk round the block. Charlie will need structure in the house - no sleeping on the sofa or on human beds. He has had negative experiences in his first home which means he becomes worried when people come close to his face (A child use to hold him by his ears so she could kiss him). We would recommend crating him at night. Here at the kennels, he is truly a lovely dog. We don’t pressure him or overwhelm him with affection/ fusses (don’t get me wrong, he does love a good fuss!). No children. Can live with other dogs. Has lived with a cat - no issue.

Darwin, a 9 years old male Belgian Malinois available for adoption from Mutts in Distress in Essex

Mutts in Distress

Darwin

Essex
SexMale
Age9 years
BreedBelgian Malinois

Darwin is a gorgeous Malinois x Sighthound. Despite Darwin's grey face, he has lovely white teeth, and is 9 years old. In kennels he is a very friendly chap. Darwin will need 6 foot or higher fences and he won't be able to be left in the garden alone. Darwin has not been tested with cats or dogs yet but this can be arranged if needed. He adores everyone he meets. Please don't be put off by his gorgeous frosted face, dogs who are darker around the muzzle/eyes tend to go grey earlier in life. He still loves to run around the paddock. Another one of his favourite activities is sunbathing, we often see him catching a few ZZZs while he's out on the paddock. It's tiring work being so handsome! Darwin has been an angel at dog school around the other dogs and even said hello to Mutt's dog Merlin. Darwin is a superb boy. Always has a smile on his face and rarely lets anything get him down. During his time with us, Darwin has shown himself to be a lovely chap, super friendly to everyone he meets but it appears he can be food possessive. As long as food is kept away and he is left alone while eating, we are sure he can still be the perfect companion for someone as he learns that nobody is going to take his food away. Everyone who has met Darwin in person will tell you how extremely loving he is. All Darwin is looking for is someone to love him and teach him that he doesn't need to worry that his food is going to be taken away. We won't ever know what his past was but we are guessing that he was starved. He was very skinny when he came in to Mutts, which probably accounts for his possessiveness over food. We do know he can have the most amazing future with the right family. Darwin whilst at the kennels, has proved to have an excellent temperament around other dogs. Darwin will need an experienced dog home, to help him feel safe. He does have some resourcing issues but with management and patience we believe he can still be suited to home life. He will need a child free home. Preferably the only dog in the home but we would potentially consider another home where the owner is very experienced.

Dundee, a Unknown old male Miniature Pinscher available for adoption from Mutts in Distress in Essex

Mutts in Distress

Dundee

Essex
SexMale
AgeUnknown
BreedMiniature Pinscher

Dundee is another fortunate soul saved from a UK pound. We are unaware of his background, so can only tell you what we know. Dundee is a Miniature Pinscher dog who appreciates being left alone while he eats his meals. While he was out on tea-break with us, he just sat and watched as we were eating biscuits. He didn’t attempt to snatch or guard anything. As for his food bowl, he will give warnings if you get too close to it - so would be best to feed him in a separate room. Dundee has attended a class at dog school and showed no reaction to the other dogs, he seems to be curious but happy. Dundee would best suit a home without young children. Dundee loves affection, he’s quite happy to curl up on someone’s lap during tea-break, so he has probably been used to a home environment. We would love for him to have that again.

Jack is looking for a home who can set boundaries, he’s not unruly but he has benefitted from a routine in the kennels. Jack is an active boy and will need a home who is happy to properly stimulate/ exercise him. Jack could potentially live with another dog. No cats. No children.

We will be looking for a quieter and more experienced home for Linus. Preferably one that has owned German Shepherds (or GSD crosses) in the past. Rigby

Essex
SexMale
Age2 years
BreedMastiff

This beautiful boy is Rigby, he has only just arrived at Mutts but he is in such a sorry state, so skinny and has badly neglected skin. This poor lad has not had an easy start to life. Our vet suspects he has been left in terrible living conditions while also having to deal with a flea allergy. Luckily for Rigby, he found Mutts and we will nurse him back to health and find the forever family he deserves. Despite all the trauma this poor boy has endured, he is still a happy boy. Rigby is around 2 years old, Mastiff cross (possibly with Labrador). So far in the kennels, he has shown himself to be a gentle boy with a huge amount of love to share. Rigby could live with children 5 years +.
