About National Animal Welfare Trust

National Animal Welfare Trust is an independent UK animal welfare charity founded in 1971, with roots dating back to earlier efforts to protect animals from harm and neglect. The Trust rescues, cares for, and rehomes around 1,200 animals each year through a network of centres across southern England, including specialist facilities for elderly pets. Over the decades, NAWT has expanded by supporting and integrating established local rescues, ensuring long-term care and improved welfare standards for animals in their communities. Alongside rescue and rehoming, the charity raises funds through charity shops and local supporter groups, continuing its mission to protect and improve the lives of animals in need.

Hi everyone, my name's Archie and I may be little in size but have a big personality to make up for it.I have recently spent the last couple of months in Foster care with two staff members from the centre here, and I have loved being in a comfy home environment again. This has allowed the team to learn a lot more about my rehoming requirements. So here goes......I am going to need quite a special home that's nice and quiet with an owner who will give me lots of time, patience, reassurance and understanding as I am a very worried and scared little boy. I am not the type of dog that likes to be fussed or petted, so if you are looking for a lap dog that isn't me I'm afraid. However, the team have been working on other ways of interacting with me and I now know a "touch" command and I get so excited to do this, I'm such a good boy!I would also benefit from having a space in my new home just for me, where I can go to if I need some quiet time - my Foster Mums say I get very sleepy in the evening and will take myself off to my favourite "igloo" bed.I am spotlessly clean in the home, and I actually settle very well so would be fine to leave for a period of time - you will most probably find me asleep under my blanket upon your return as I love getting all snuggly and warm. I am not a fan of the rain, mud, getting dirty or being woken up from my snoozing though!Once I know and trust you the real Archie comes out to play - I just love my special mini sized balls and tug toys, we could have so much fun! I am actually very clever and know lots of commands, love enrichment activities and am keen to learn new things. I am good on the lead and really enjoy sniffy walks as long as I'm away from busy roads.I wouldn't be able to live with cats or dogs I'm afraid, but if you have an adult only home and would be willing to handle me carefully and build up my confidence I would love to meet you and show you the real Archie x

Howdy, I'm Bonzo and I'm a beautiful big black boy on the look out for my forever home. Not only am I very attractive and quite unusual to look at, I have also got the kindest soul and the most fabulous temperament, what more could you ask for!!!!I am still growing as only young, so am going to be a big lad and will need a home that can cope with a dog of my size and energy.I absolutely adore people and am great around children, in fact I am an absolute dream to handle - I will just sat that I will need an owner that can mange my strength on the lead, as although I can do some lovely walking, if I do pick up an interesting scent or get excited I can be strong at times. The team here are working on my lead walking training and will be able to give you lots of hint and tips to help me improve even more.Talking about training....I am a very clever young lad who picks things up very quickly and loves to learn. I already know "sit", "paw" and "spin" but will just need a bit more help with all the basics. I am great fun to be around and am hoping that my new home has lots of new toys. I am not used to being left home alone that much yet so that will need building up gradually.I am very sociable with people and other dogs, and have been used to being off lead with all types of dogs with no issues. I haven't lived with a cat before but I've met some of the cats here at the centre and I think I could cope well with a confident feline friend.I am going to make a family very happy, so come on......I'm ready and waiting just for you!!!! Brin

Hertfordshire
SexMale
Age6 years
BreedGreyhound

Brin is a beautiful 5-year-old greyhound with a sweet and affectionate nature. He loves spending time with people, enjoys playing, and is always happy to head out for a good walk. Brin gets on well with other dogs of a similar size and would enjoy a home where he can continue to socialise and explore.Brin can live with sensible children who understand how to respect dogs and give him space when needed. He would suit a calm, loving home where he can be part of the family.Like many greyhounds, Brin has a strong prey drive, so he cannot live with small dogs, cats, or other small furry animals. Because of this, he’ll need an owner who understands the breed and can manage him appropriately on walks and around smaller animals.Brin would make a lovely companion for someone looking for a gentle, fun-loving dog who enjoys both exercise and relaxing at home.If you can offer this lovely boy a home, please register your interest today!

Hi I’m Chance. I’m 5 years old, and I found my way into rescue after my time at the pound ran out. It was all a bit scary and confusing, if I’m honest. I’m still figuring things out.I can be quite an anxious boy in certain situations. But once I know I’m safe, that’s when the real me comes out.If I bond with you, you’ll know it. I’ve got the wiggliest bum and the happiest tail you’ve ever seen, all ready to greet my favourite people. I absolutely adore fuss and attention. Gentle strokes, kind words, sitting close together... that’s my love language. I’m a soft-hearted, gentle soul who just wants to feel secure and loved.I’ll need someone patient and understanding who can help me build my confidence at my own pace. I’m just a little unsure about life sometimes. With reassurance and positive experiences, I really will blossom.I’ll also need some support with my dog socialisation. I’m a bit fearful around other dogs right now, so slow introductions and ongoing positive training will help me learn that I don’t need to worry. In return, I promise to be the sweetest, most loyal companion you could ask for. I may take a little time to find my brave, but when I do, you’ll have a best friend for life.If you’ve got a kind heart and a bit of patience to spare, I’d love to meet you. Maybe my second chance starts with you.

Hi there, I am hoping someone can help me - I have been with my lovely current family since a pup but due to a change in work circumstances I can no longer go to work with my owner and as I really hate being left home alone they are bravely trying to find me a new family who will suit my needs.I am an anxious boy in general and will take time to feel comfortable around you - but once I have overcome that initial wariness I am a real little lap dog that loves nothing more than having lots of fuss and snuggles.I am used to being the only dog at home but am very used to having dogs come to stay with no issues so I may be able to live with another. I am currently living with a cat and we tolerate each other as long as they don't come anywhere near my food, but I will chase cats I don't know outside the home so it may be best if we say no to any feline friends.I have been around children aged 11 years plus and have been great. I can get very worried at the vets and have been muzzled for previous appointments, but that is the only time I have needed to wear one. I travel really well in the car which does help with the fact that I hate being left at home alone. I really just don't cope with it and can be destructive, so I am going to need new owners who are around a lot of the time or who don't mind taking me with them. Being a Miniature Dachshund I can bark a bit and will need owners who are careful not to let me overdo things and cause any injuries to myself because of my long spine and little legs.Ideally I would love a home with a nice garden as I have been used to having access to the outdoors all day, and because my recall isn't great it allows me to have a run about when ever I feel like it.I know I am asking a lot but I am sure I there is someone who needs the company as much as I do x Harley x

Hi, I’m Hugo, a gorgeous 3-year-old mastiff mix with the body of a gentle giant and the personality of a big, lovable goofball!I’m at my happiest when I’m bouncing around, playing silly games, or leaning my entire weight into you for a proper mastiff cuddle. I’m a strong lad, so I’ll need an experienced owner who’s confident with large breeds and able to continue working on my lead walking. I’m making good progress with my training, but I’ll need someone steady and consistent to help me become the very best version of myself.I can be quite unsure and reserved when meeting new people. I need calm introductions and a patient human who has the time to build up my confidence and help me form positive associations. Once I trust you, though, you’ll see my soft, snuggly, affectionate side shine through.I absolutely love other dogs and could potentially live with a similar-sized, well-matched playmate who enjoys a bit of fun. Because of my size and strength, I’m looking for an adult-only home. I also can’t live with cats – they’re just a little too fascinating for me!If you’re experienced with big breeds, have the patience to help a sensitive soul grow in confidence, and would love a loyal, affectionate companion (with a slightly goofy streak), I could be your perfect match.

Have you ever wondered what 80s movie icon Kiefer Sutherland would look like if he were transformed into a dog? Well... wonder no more.Hi, I’m Kiefer—and I’m ready for my next big role!I’m a charismatic leading man with star power and personality in spades. I love to be the center of attention, soaking up all the praise, belly rubs, and adoration I can get.I'm always keen to meet new fans—humans and dogs alike! I’ve been working hard on sharing the limelight with other pups on walks and might even be open to a canine co-star at home, as long as we get to know each other properly at the rescue center first. But cats? Let’s just say they’re not on my guest list. Now, every star has their quirks, and I’m no exception. I do need a home that can offer me structure, routine, and—most importantly—patience. I’m still learning how to handle the pressure of stardom, and when I get overwhelmed or frustrated, I’ve been known to nip and get myself into trouble. Because of this, I’m looking for an adult-only home where I can decompress and continue learning at my own pace, with people who understand I’m a work in progress. So, if you’ve got experience, kindness, and the dedication to help me shine, then what are you waiting for? He loves playing with his toys, following his nose on exciting scents and happily digging or rolling around when given the chance. Luca is a fun, intelligent boy who enjoys engaging both his body and his mind. He is currently in foster care. Nala, a 2 years old female Crossbreed available for adoption from National Animal Welfare Trust in Hertfordshire

Hello everyone I'm Nala......I literally can not wait to meet you!!!My original family couldn't give me all that I deserved due to having such a young and busy family life so I am hoping that my next home will be my forever one.Getting lots of fuss and attention is literally my favourite thing, but I am quite chatty and will let you know when you haven't paid me enough attention, so a new home with owners with time to spend with me would be amazing.I will also need new owners who will be able to match my energy - I am on the go a lot of the time and will need good long walks. I can be quite pully on the lead initially or if something takes my fancy so I will need owners who are fit and capable of managing me. I will also need to be kept on a long line and wear a muzzle if off lead in public as I'm a real scavenge and have a high prey drive. The muzzle will just ensure that any little dogs or other small animals are kept safe when I'm about. I am extremely clever so will need to to keep my mind occupied too - I am super smart at puzzle games and quick to learn tricks and commands. I am very puppy like with my play and will love every single toy you show me. I am a large sized dog and can get a bit bouncy and excited so will need a home with enough space and owners who can cope with that. I think a nice calm home would suit me best as although I have lived with very young children and am very friendly with them they do tend to make me rather anxious when they make lots of noise or are a bit too playful. I can become restless, panty and whiny when its like this so definitely older teenagers or adults would suit me more I think. Food is another of my favourite things which makes training and enrichment time really fun and rewarding but like I've said I will scavenge and eat anything!!! I am ok to leave at home for a few hours as I am completely clean in the house but I may just rip up soft toys if they are left out. I haven't done an awful lot of traveling in the car yet but I am very much up for getting used to that.I am such a beautiful girl so I really hope it wont be too long before a new home is found for me x Nala x
