About National Animal Welfare Trust

National Animal Welfare Trust is an independent UK animal welfare charity founded in 1971, with roots dating back to earlier efforts to protect animals from harm and neglect. The Trust rescues, cares for, and rehomes around 1,200 animals each year through a network of centres across southern England, including specialist facilities for elderly pets. Over the decades, NAWT has expanded by supporting and integrating established local rescues, ensuring long-term care and improved welfare standards for animals in their communities. Alongside rescue and rehoming, the charity raises funds through charity shops and local supporter groups, continuing its mission to protect and improve the lives of animals in need.

Hi everyone, my name's Archie and I may be little in size but have a big personality to make up for it.I have spent the last month in Foster care with one of the staff members from the centre here, and I have loved being in a comfy home environment again. This has allowed the team to learn a lot more about my rehoming requirements. So here goes......I am going to need quite a special home that's nice and quiet with an owner who will give me lots of time, patience, reassurance and understanding as I am a very worried and scared little boy. I am not the type of dog that likes to be fussed or petted, so if you are looking for a lap dog that isn't me I'm afraid. However, the team have been working on other ways of interacting with me and I now know a "touch" command and I get so excited to do this, I'm such a good boy!I would also benefit from having a space in my new home just for me, where I can go to if I need some quiet time - my Foster Mum says I get very sleepy in the evening and will take myself off to my favourite "igloo" bed.I am spotlessly clean in the home, and I actually settle very well so would be fine to leave for a period of time - you will most probably find me asleep under my blanket upon your return as I love getting all snuggly and warm. I am not a fan of the rain, mud, getting dirty or being woken up from my snoozing though!Once I know and trust you the real Archie comes out to play - I just love my special mini sized balls and tug toys, we could have so much fun! I am actually very clever and know lots of commands, love enrichment activities and am keen to learn new things. I am good on the lead and really enjoy sniffy walks as long as I'm away from busy roads.I wouldn't be able to live with cats or dogs I'm afraid, but if you have an adult only home and would be willing to handle me carefully and build up my confidence I would love to meet you and show you the real Archie x

Hey everyone, I'm Ava. I am hoping that there is a home out there for a beautiful looking, sweet girl like me.I am ideally looking for new owners who are able to spend lots of time with me as I adore the closeness of a human companion, however, I have been building up on the time that I can be left and I am actually quite confident and happy sleeping in my own bed without worrying too much, you may be able to tell that I have sofa and bed hopped whilst you have been gone though!I am not a fan of all this cold wet weather and much prefer being cuddled up, nice and warm in a bed, or even on or under yours if you are happy to share!I am a bit timid and wary to start with (especially with men) and can show this by being vocal, but I come round really quickly with patience and rewards (I love my treats!!) and then you will see my adorable soft, cuddly and friendly nature. All the staff here at the centre are absolutely amazed of how well I have done since they first met me and are hoping my new owners will continue with all the great training I am doing.Once we have that bond I am great to handle, groom and I even enjoyed my recent check up at the vets and gave the vet lots of kisses. I will need an owner who enjoys walking as much as I do. I am up for all sorts of adventures as long as you just allow me the time to build up my confidence. I had been building up my dog socialisation skills and been enjoying going out on walks with some doggy pals so I could possibly live with another dog if it was the right match for me.I can be a vocal girl, and like a lot of dogs, I will make lots of noise when someone knocks on the front door or walks past the window, but I am learning that I don't have to react to everything and not all noises are bad or for me to shout about. This is also something I am working on when out and about on my walks so the staff here can show you how to help me with this.I can be a little bit travel sick but it is all new to me, so again - I just need time to get used to this gradually. I am hoping that someone out there who lives in quiet location with a nice garden for me to do zoomies, is going to give me the chance to shine and show how much of a wonderful friend and companion I can be as I really do have so much love to give x Paws crossed x

BreedDobermann

Hi, I'm Bomma, a gorgeous 3 year old chap.I’m a lovely big boy who thought I’d found my forever home. Sadly, through no fault of my own, life changed for my humans and I had to come back. I’m a very soppy boy, I love being with people and getting lots of fuss. I can be strong on the lead, but if you’ve had a big dog before, you’ll know the drill. I’ve got power and enthusiasm, especially when the world smells exciting. I absolutely love my toys and I’m a professional at zoomies, the joyful, full-speed kind that make everyone laugh.Other dogs? Well... I like to announce myself. I might bark, but it’s all noise and no nastiness. If you call me away, I’m happy to move on and I won’t even look back. I’m really clever and I love high reward treats so I’ll really enjoy doing reward based training with you.I’d really shine with experienced people who understand active, strong dogs and enjoy having one around. I’d prefer to be your one and only pet, soaking up all the love. I’d also love it if someone could be around for me during the day, I’m a social lad and enjoy company. I could potentially live with older, dog-savvy children who know how to respect my space, as I have before. What I’m really looking for is someone who sees past the size and the noise and notices the good boy underneath, loyal, playful, and ready to settle when I feel secure again. If you think you might be my person, I’m waiting... tail wagging, toy in mouth, hopeful as ever. Please apply today.

Chilli, a 9 years old male Dachshund available for adoption from National Animal Welfare Trust in Hertfordshire

National Animal Welfare Trust

Chilli

Hertfordshire
SexMale
Age9 years
BreedDachshund

So I'm Chilli.....as in Chilli Dog!!!! and as you can see I am a Standard Dachshund on the look out for a new home through the Home Direct Scheme.I am with my current family who are very busy with work and all that comes with 2 children, so although this hasn't been an easy decision, they do think it is best if I find a new home with someone who has more time to care for me and give me all the love and attention I deserve. I am very friendly chap who is pleased to see everyone and quite easy going really. Like most Dachshunds, I will bark if I hear a bang or if someone comes to the door, but within no time at all I am happy and enjoying all the extra fuss.I have lived with children with no issues at all but my current family think it's time for me to find a calmer quieter home with a slower pace of life, so maybe an adult only house or at least older teenage children who aren't going to be making too much noise or chase me around. I am great with dogs out on my walks and regularly see other doggy pals in the extended family so I think I could live with another suitable one. I love to have a good old play and wont give up my toys very easy, so I will need to work on my swops!I am prone to allergies, and as of yet we don't know the exact cause, but a low dose of medication currently keeps it at bay. I am hoping that new owners with less distractions in the home will be able to narrow down the cause so I don't need any medication. But I am currently looking fabulous, with a lovely shiny coat.....I'm a pretty good looking dog if I do say so myself!!!I currently go out daily with a dog walker so am very sociable, I travel well in the car, very clean in the house and I'm good to leave alone if needed. So come on, what are you waiting for.....submit your details.....please xx

Hey, It's me Cliff!!!Some of you may recognise my (adorable) face from a few months back when I was looking for a Foster family. Well, I'm now ready and looking for my forever adoptive home. My fabulous Foster family, who I love very much, have looked after me so well whilst I have been monitored by the amazing veterinary team, and even though I have been diagnosed with Kartagener Syndrome that affects the coordination and function of cilia and mucus in my respiratory tract, I am now in the best condition that the vets and the team here have ever seen me in. My condition does mean that I will need to remain on some daily special mild antibiotics for the rest of my life and I will be prone to picking up more chest infections than my friends. But saying that, I am loving life and want to live it to the full, so I am really hoping someone will give me that opportunity.I am probably the friendliest boy you might ever meet! I adore human interactions and will smoother you with love and lots of slobber and kisses, especially if I am feeling a little anxious, as I tend to need some reassurance in new situations. I am an excitable young dog, quite puppy like still, and even though my Foster Mum has been putting in lots of training with me, I still have more to learn. I am very clever and very eager to please. If you watch me I will regularly check in with you to make sure all is ok and again for you to reassure me!Being young and playful will mean I need both play and enrichment times to keep my Spaniel brain occupied. Like a lot of Spaniel types I love my walks but can be pully when on the lead, so will need some further training with that. I am also a real fan of water so we will be able to have so much splishy splashy fun together.I have been living with children in my Foster home and we get on like a house on fire, and I do think it would be so much fun to have a doggy friend to play with and help keep me occupied when my humans are busy.I hope to hear from you soon x Cliff x

Fleur

Hertfordshire

Age9 years
BreedGerman Shepherd

Hi everyone, I'm the beautiful Fleur and I am probably one of the most gentle dogs you will ever ever meet!I have the loveliest temperament with a really calm and peaceful manner. To be honest I am just a very chilled kind of lady who's looking for a similar kind of home - I know I wouldn't like anywhere with lots of noise or commotion as that can make me feel a bit worried. My favourite past time is sleeping......I can sleep for hours and I really enjoy being all snug, cosy and warm at home. If you need to go to work or leave me home alone sometimes, don't worry, I honestly won't mind, as I settle easily and am completely housetrained, so it just means I get some extra beauty sleep! For a larger sized dog I walk beautifully on my lead, so am a real joy to take out on walks.....which I love by the way. I am currently used to being walked on my lead wherever I go, but I do have great recall skills, I would just need to get to know you first. I am a very friendly girl who enjoys lots of fuss, you could stroke me all day! I greet everybody both 2 and 4 legged happily, and will only bark if the 4 legged variety shout at me first. I travel really well in the car and will happily jump straight in all by myself so the world is our oyster. I havent been living with a cat but because I am so chilled it may be a possibility.I am prone to itchy skin, and as of yet I don't know what causes it, but my vet has advised I try out a new type of food which will hopefully help me a bit. I have been to the grooming salon several times and am very happy to have a wash and blow dry! I am looking for a new home through the Home Direct Scheme, which means I will stay with my current owner until a suitable match is found. All meets will be done at the centre. So, If you have a big Flower shaped hole in your heart, and a space for me (and my big cosy bed of course) look no further, I look forward to meeting you xx

Hello. It’s Herbie here, 3 years old, very handsome, excellent lap companion and this tiny blur attempting to pounce on my tail is my daughter Matilda, who is 1 year old and firmly believes she is in charge of everything. We’re a devoted little father-and-daughter pair of classic Chihuahuas who found ourselves in rescue when our owners had to leave the country and couldn’t take us along. We were loved, and we still have so much love to give. We absolutely dote on each other, we nap curled up together, groom each other, and enjoy dramatic play-wrestling matches (Matilda likes to wind me up, but I pretend I’m not impressed). We’re very sweet with people, adore attention and affection, and will happily be your tiny shadows from sofa to kitchen and back again. Yes, we have that classic Chihuahua bark and aren’t particularly fond of the postman, someone has to keep an eye on him, but underneath the yappy announcements we are friendly, loving little souls. We would suit calm children aged 12 and over.Mostly, we’re just two small dogs with very big hearts, hoping to find a home where we can stay together, snuggle often, and be someone’s much-loved little team. Please apply today!

Hi... I’m Honey!I’m about a year and a half old, and I’ve been told I have a lot of love to give... and I think that’s true, because loving people is my absolute favourite thing in the whole world! When I see my favourite humans, I just can’t help myself, I get so excited to be near them! I love fuss, cuddles, attention... honestly, if you’re giving out love, I am there.I also love other dogs, playing, bouncing around, making friends... it’s all very fun! Because of that, I could happily live with a calm resident dog who can show me the ropes. I’m also currently living with a cat in my foster home, so I could potentially live with a cat too.I could live with teenage children who understand that I’m still a young girl learning about the world.I’ll be honest... I do still need a bit of basic training. I’m young, eager, and sometimes just a little too excited about everything! But I’m clever, I want to learn, and with the right guidance I’m going to grow into the most amazing companion.Because that’s what I really want, to be someone’s best friend.I’ve got so much potential, so much love, and such a happy, affectionate nature. All I need now is a home that will help me become the very best version of myself.Could that be with you?
