Dougie
Northern Ireland3 year old Dougie arrived into our care from Dublin County Dog Shelter in November 2025 after spending almost 3 weeks there.Dougie is IKC registered and we would not be surprised if we learned that he has come from a good pedigree line. He is a very archetypal Stafford with lots of different personality traits and quirks which make him all the more adorable. He is a funny and sometimes cheeky dog and will bring lots of laughter to his new family. He can be a bit of a rascal at times, getting into things and doing things he knows he shouldn't like having private bin buffets and positioning himself in high places (we have never known a more nimble dog!) but this just adds to his fun personality and lovable nature. Like all Staffords, Dougie loves his tummy tickles and showing his affection by giving lots of licks. He can also be very independent and enjoys gathering his thoughts in a quiet space (probably planning his next escapade!). He is that lovely combination of energetic whilst out on a walk but very relaxed around the house and would be classed as a medium energy dog which you would expect at his young age. A family who enjoyed taking hikes or spent time rambling outdoors would be ideal for him because he is very fit and healthy. Afternoon and evening naps are one of Dougies favourite pastimes along with destuffing toys. He is always very content when he is in the company of others and loves a snooze during the day. There is no doubt that Dougie has a mind of his own and can certainly stand his ground. As well as being independent, he is also a maverick with really good intentions.Dougie walks very well on the lead and travelling in the car with him is a breeze - he is very calm and relaxed in a vehicle so would suit long journeys for a family that likes to go on trips.Dougie sleeps well at night and can be left for reasonable amounts of time home alone. He is non-destructive and apart from being a bit whiny on occasions, he settles well in his own company.Dougie is a dog that would need to be kept on lead at all times unless he was in his own secure garden space or at a privately hired dog park (which he loves). Like most dogs, he would not appreciate being ambushed by a loose dog/s and although his recall is good in an area that is secure and without distractions, he would most certainly be away with the wind given the chance.Dougie would be best suited to adults only so will be rehomed to a family without any children. A quiet and calm environment is what Dougie needs to flourish and one where he is the only dog. He is not fazed by other dogs when on a walk but we feel that he would be far happier being the only dog who received all the attention. Dougie is not suitable to be rehomed with a cat/s.When Dougie first arrived he was very aloof, nervous and overly alert, especially on walks. However, with the right nurturing and time given to him his confidence has grown immensely. He can still be a little hesitant with new experiences such as going to the beach or busy places but with gradual introductions we are sure that he will be able to adapt to lots of new environments. We knew from the beginning that Dougie was a superb Stafford and he still has so much potential. He is the perfect dog for a family who really enjoy spending time with their pet and taking the time to teach them new things.
