About Norfolk Greyhound Rescue

Norfolk Greyhound Rescue is a small, local non-profit dedicated to finding loving homes for Irish greyhounds, including ex-racers and those who never made it to the track. The rescue also works with partner charities to help rehome lurchers in need. Based broadly around Norwich and the North Norfolk coast, the organisation has no central kennels, instead placing dogs into foster homes to help them adjust to family life and allow proper assessment before adoption. This foster-based approach ensures each hound receives individual care, early training, and the best possible match with a forever home.

BreedLurcher

This lovely little lurcher boy is Ben.He is only 21” ttsPicked up as a stray on New Year eve., he was super cold and hungry. He will happily jump into the car and we would guess that Ben is about a year old.He has gone to a kennel facility Ireland. He would need to be fed separately, as he can guard his food.Ben had the potential to be a great family pet., he has obviously not had a good start in life.Ending up a stay and in a kennel environment at such a young age is awful and can be terrifying for some young dogs.Ben is a happy boy with lots of love to give.Ben is still a baby, he has great teeth, and a super cheeky character to him.Ben really deserves a chance and a human to call his own.He would not be cat friendly.Currently in Ireland.Full, rescue back upDonations of any amount are greatly appreciated

Harry is a stunning greyhound puppy looking for his forever home.Harry could be cat workable for an experienced owner. He’s been living in a lovely home but did not get on with the resident cats, so he’s not suited to homes with or cats.Harry is a typical puppy full of energy and we don’t know how big he will get.He could live with older children/teenagers.He will need a home with other dogs and someone who is home for the vast majority of the time, as he thrives on company and routine.Harry has attended puppy training classes, is learning to walk nicely on the lead and is house trained, but he’ll benefit from a home with someone confident in handling an energetic, spirited young dog.Harry is a lucky boy, he has escaped the turmoil and cruelty of the racing industry at a very young age. With the right guidance, he’ll be a devoted and loving companion.Harry would not be suitable for first time dog owners.Currently in foster in Ireland.Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated

Name: Finlay Sex: Male Breed: Lurcher TTS: 23 1/2” ( medium sz ) Neutered: Yes Microchipped: Yes Vaccinated: Yes DOB: Unknown – 20/04/2024 estimated History: Stray Dog from Galway Dog PoundComing other the UK this week and into foster home Nr Woodbridge Suffolk.Personality.Finlay needs another confident dog. He is currently sharing his kennel with a male saluki and they get on great. He is a sensitive soul who would need an adult only home in a country setting. Heavy traffic and loud noises would not suit him. He needs a home used to lurchers who need time to trust and where he can learn from the resident confident dog. He is a lovely boy, so gentle it’s almost heart breaking. He was shell shocked coming to us and we think he hasn’t had much positive interactions with humans up until he came to us, however he loves the lady who runs our boarding kennels and walks lovely in the lead for her. She says he is just a quiet little man with so much love to give in the right home, given time and patience. Freddie, a 9 years old female Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier available for adoption from Norfolk Greyhound Rescue in Norfolk

Norfolk Greyhound Rescue

Freddie

Norfolk
SexFemale
Age9 years
BreedSoft Coated Wheaten Terrier

Freddie – Jack Russell Terrier. Not one enquiry for this amazing little chap. ( approx 8/9 yo ) Currently in a foster home in Ireland with other dogs.Freddie is a lively little Jack Russell Terrier who has been in foster care with us for the past two months. During this time, he has lived in a busy household with young adults coming and going, alongside a large female bull lurcher and a family cat. Freddie is confident around people and not easily fazed by household activity. He will bark briefly to alert when someone knocks at the door but otherwise greets visitors politely and then settles.Note **Freddie is not cat-friendly and currently needs to be managed separately from cats, so a cat-free home would be essential.**He is a very active boy who enjoys being involved in whatever is going on around him. He loves his walks and generally walks well on the lead. He may occasionally bark at other dogs while out, particularly smaller dogs that are also vocal, though he seems more comfortable around larger dogs. With appropriate introductions and management, he could benefit from having another canine companion. He needs to very secure during car journeys as he moves a lot and has actually managed to slip out of his harness in the car with us on 2 occasions. He can be a real wriggle monster ! A crate maybe the answer. When Freddie first arrived ( and being a typical JRT ), he displayed significant resource guarding behaviour, which led to biting incidents within the household, but thankfully not with the larger dog. With consistent handling and management, these behaviours have steadily reduced and have not been an issue recently. As with many dogs, I believe there is a possibility this could resurface temporarily when he transitions to a new home, so adopters will need to be mindful and patient.Freddie is still a work in progress with his house training, though he has made clear improvements. His new family will need to continue this training with patience and consistency. At home, once his humans have settled, Freddie is very content to relax with them. He enjoys snoozing on the sofa or curling up on a lap and is an affectionate, routine-loving little dog. He chooses to sleep downstairs in his crate and is happily crated at night and when unsupervised, particularly due to the presence of other animals in the home. He sleeps through the night and will only bark in the morning when he hears people getting up to remind them he’s ready to start the day.Freddie hasn’t quite learned how to play yet and can be unsure when other dogs initiate play, especially those much larger than him. He can also be a bit of an escapologist and may try to slip out through doors, though his recall is generally good — treats definitely help!He copes well with being left alone for reasonable periods and has shown no destructive or anxious behaviours when left.Freddie would thrive in an active home with people who enjoy regular walks and can give him time to run around safely, ideally with access to a garden. He is very food-motivated and can be a little insistent around mealtimes, so boundaries around food will be important.Overall, Freddie is a confident, affectionate, and adaptable little dog who could suit a wide range of households (*keeping mind my concern raised about a return to resource guarding), provided they are patient with his continued toilet training, mindful around food, and able to meet his exercise needs.Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated
