About North Clwyd Animal Rescue

North Clwyd Animal Rescue (NCAR) was founded in 1978 after a stray lurcher named Lady arrived at the home of founder Anne Owen, inspiring the creation of a rescue to save unclaimed dogs facing euthanasia. What began as a small group of volunteers boarding dogs and fundraising locally grew into a registered charity committed to rescuing and rehoming vulnerable animals. Through years of dedication, fundraising and generous donations, the charity secured and converted its own premises in the early 1990s, with volunteers playing a vital role in building the kennels and catteries. Today, NCAR continues its mission to provide safety, care and second chances to animals in need.

Angel's Notes:Angel is a sweet girl who was understandably very nervous when she first came to us after being handed in as a stray, unfortunately nobody has come forward to claim her so she is now looking for her forever home.We did manage to get some more info about her from a member of the public which has given us an insight into her background, unfortunately, her past is a sad one. She did recently find a home but was sadly returned a couple of days later due to the owner struggling to manage her when she got overexcited and started heavily mouthing. This beautiful girl requires plenty of patience and understanding after all she has been through. She is an extremely loving girl once she gets to know you and loves to give you lots of cuddles! Due to mistreatment when she was younger she can be unsure of new people initially, especially of men but but can be won around quite easily once she knows that you are not going to hurt her. She has sadly had quite a hard life up to now with no stability, and would really benefit from a home with people who will be dedicated to her and her socialisation.Angel absolutely loves running around playing with toys, especially tennis balls! She is an energetic girl and will require plenty of physical exercise and mental stimulation in order to meet her needs. She would be the perfect running partner/adventure buddy for someone! We have been introducing her to other dogs and she seems to get on with them really well out and about, she can potentially live with another dog as long as introductions went well here at the rescue. Due to her being a timid girl, she is looking for a home with sensible older teenagers. We really hope that the right home comes along for her soon as she is struggling with kennel life.

Angus's Notes:Angus is a handsome lad who originally came into our care as a stray and no one came forward to claim him, we did manage to find him a new home but he has sadly come back due to being too much for his owner. He is now looking for a new home and we hope he finds a suitable active home soon as he is a friendly lad who is sadly struggling with kennel life.Angus is friendly and likes to meet people and is always very interested in his surroundings, he will make a great adventure buddy for someone as he is quite confident and loves being out and about walking. He can be quite strong on the lead here and will require ongoing training to help with this but we also feel he will calm down quite a lot once he is out of kennels and is getting a lot of exercise. Angus likes running and sniffing in our secure paddocks, at the moment he doesn’t have any recall so he will require training in a few areas and will thrive in a home with owners who have the time to dedicate to him. He is looking for a home with sensible teenagers 14+. He is looking for a home with 6ft fences in the garden and he will need to be supervised when let out there as he did turn out to be a bit of an escape artist when he first went to his previous home. He is looking for a home where he won’t be left alone much as he thrives on human company. In his previous home he would get quite barky when he saw other dogs, this isn’t a behaviour he displays here at the rescue much and we do think with the right owners this will improve. He is looking to be the only pet in the home but with continued socialisation out and about. We hope a suitable home comes along soon for this handsome boy!can live with older childrenfriendly with strangerscan't live with dogscan't live with young children

Woof woof! My name is Atari and I am a beautiful girl ready to find my forever home :)Atari's Notes:Atari is a beautiful girl who originally came into our care as a stray, she was rehomed for a short period but was returned as unfortunately she didn’t get on with the other dog in the home. She is a lovely and affectionate girl with people she is familiar with, she can be a little unsure of some men but is easily won around with treats and is much better when she is able to approach in her own time.. we have been working on this with her during her stay and she has built bonds with many male volunteers since her arrival. She has clearly lacked socialisation before coming into our care but due to her only being young still, with the right people by her side we know she will blossom.Atari generally interacts well with other dogs when she is out walking and tends to ignore them, but we now know that she isn’t keen on sharing her space/home with other animals. Due to this, she is looking for a home where she will be the only pet and get all of the attention to herself! She will benefit from further socialisation with dogs. Atari can be rehomed with sensible teenagers 16+ due to her occasional nervousness, size and bouncy behaviour at times. She really loves being out and about exploring, she generally walks well on lead once her excitement has worn off! She loves playing with toys and pottering around in the garden. She is looking for a home where she won’t be left for long hours as she loves having company, in the home she was being left for 4 hours max and settled well – just hide the recycling from her!We really hope that she finds her forever home soon as she has so much potential to be an amazing companion for someone.can live with older childrencan't live with dogs

Status: Reserved.RESERVEDWooof! I'm Barkby and I'm a big friendly guy looking for a home full of love and adventures :)Barkby's Notes:Barkby is a handsome big lad who came in to us after being found as a stray, sadly nobody came forward to claim him or give us any information on him, so he is now looking for his new forever home.He is a big playful boy with lots and lots of love to give, he doesn’t quite realise his size at times and tries to greet everyone he meets with lots of enthusiasm! He would definitely benefit from a home with people who had an interest in training and the patience to help teach him some manners and boundaries. This has been started with him here at the rescue and he is doing so well! Although he means no harm anyone interested in him will need to be confident with big dogs.Barkby absolutely loves playing with toys and running around the secure paddocks here at the rescue and he enjoys being out and about exploring new places too. He can be quite strong on lead but we are working on this and he is already showing improvements when calm, this will need to be continued when he goes to his new home in order to have full control of him when out walking. We have introduced him to a variety of dogs since being with us and he seems to really like their company! He loves to play but as we expected, he can be too full on for some dogs. We will continue to assess him and mix him further but we do think he may have the potential to live with a compatible dog as long as the introductions go well here at the rescue, but would equally be fine as the only pet too. We feel that he is best suited to a home with sensible older teenagers due to his size and how excitable he can be at times.Barkby is very eager to please, is quick to learn and is highly trainable – he is very food motivated and focuses on his handler well. He really does have so much potential, he just needs someone with time to put into him!We really hope that he finds his forever home soon as he will make such an amazing companion can live with older childrenfriendly with dogsfriendly with strangers

Biscoff's Notes:Biscoff is a lovely boy who came to us as a stray, he was adopted out but sadly returned due to his behaviour in the home.Biscoff is a very friendly boy who will greet everyone with a big hug. He is a excitable, happy boy that hasn’t seen much of the world since coming here. He can be scared by new things or noises, he is a true baby at heart. On walks, he does pull occassionaly but does settle and walk nice. Due to his bouncy nature, he is looking for a home with older teenagers. In the home, his issues were due to seperation anxiety, and he would struggle to be left on his own. He would settle within the same room but would get upset and destructive when left alone. He would also get overexcited and start with some mouthing behaviours. We can give advice and support anyone interested in Biscoff, but he would need a home where he won’t be left for long periods, and with people that are willing to work with him and can help with his training and build up his tolerance to being left alone.Biscoff is good with dogs, but can be quite excitable and jumpy. He does have the potential to live with another dog, but preferably a calm dog that can put up with Biscoff’s bouncy nature. He clearly hasn’t been socialised at a young age as he is a bit confused when playing with dogs! But he does have a lot of potential, and will happily share toys, treats and does show good play behaviours once he settles! We think being with another dog may help with Biscoff’s seperation anxiety.Biscoff would take some time to settle in the car, but travelled really well and enjoyed playing in the garden, and learnt that he liked tennis balls! He loves a tummy fuss and will throw himself on the floor for some attention! Generally, he is a very insecure boy who has had quite a few stressful months since being found as a stray. He will need a calm home where he can learn to settle and show all his true potential.can live with other dogsfriendly with dogsfriendly with strangersis toilet trainedcan't live with young children

Buddy's Notes:RESERVED PENDING APPOINTMENTBuddy is a friendly, excitable boy who came to us due to his owners change in circumstances. He is now looking for his forever home where he can go on lots of adventures.Buddy is a friendly boy who has been great with everyone he meets. He loves his walks, and is very eager to go on long walks with volunteers and loves playing in our off-lead paddock with toys and balls. He’d make a great hiking companion. He has been friendly with dogs since arrival, but he can be quite excitable and jumpy, so he could do with some training to have manners around dogs. He is currently looking for a home as the only dog as he would very much like the attnetion.Buddy would prefer a home where he won’t be left alone for long periods as he does like people’s company. He settles well during the days and will play independantly or have afternoon naps. He travels well in the car, and in general he is a happy friendly boy. He can live with children 14+ as he can be quite jumpy and excitable.Buddy does have a very sensitive tummy and has been on a specific food diet in his previous home. Buddy was recently adopted but sadly returned due to his sensitive tummy. His next home will need to be strict with the food they give Buddy, and limit treats and alternating food options. With consistency Buddy’s tummy has improved but this will need to be continued in his next home, we can explain more if you are interested in Buddy.can live with older childrenfriendly with dogsfriendly with strangers

Coco's Notes:Coco is a stunning girl who has come into us as a stray – sadly no one has come forward to claim her or provide background information on her so she is now looking for a new home. She is a Spaniel cross but is very spaniel-like and is constantly on the go – she is looking for an active home with people who will take her out and about on lots of adventures and have time to dedicate to giving her sufficient exercise and mental stimulation in order to keep her mind satisfied. She has been very friendly since her arrival and is clean in her kennel which suggests that she is house trained. She has been fine around other dogs so could potentially live with a compatible dog in her next home as long as introductions go well here at the rescue. She is a typical Spaniel and is toy-obsessed!We will be continuing her assessments during her stay with us but so far we feel that she can be rehomed with sensible children 10+ as long as they are used to lively dogs. We really hope a suitable home comes along soon for her

Crosby's Notes:Crosby is a handsome lad who came into our care as a stray recently, he was very scared and defensive during his first few days here so we have taken our time to get to know and assess him and now feel that he is ready to start the search for the right forever home. His new home would need to be a quiet adult only home with people who are confident and experienced with dogs. He has started to show us his sweet and cheeky side recently. He is looking for a home as the only pet and will need owners that are dedicated to being patient with him and working with him to help him grow in confidence further and thrive. In general Crosby is quite a chilled low energy boy but he does love his walks and being out and about exploring. He will need a secure garden to potter in during the day time. He likes toys and is food motivated which will help with his training. Crosby can get over-excited at times and has mouthed arms on a few occasions so we will continue to assess him and work with him on this during his stay with us.Crosby can be strong on lead so needs owners who are physically capable of handling him. He is looking to be the only pet in the home as he can be hit and miss when meeting dogs here on site.Anyone interested in rehoming Crosby must be willing to visit him a few times at our site in Trelogan to build a bond before taking him home. We know his rehoming requirements probably come across as being limited and specific but we have to get it right for him. We really hope the right home comes along soon for him can't live with children

Woof! My name is Dolly and I am a sweet girl and I really love my friends here at the rescue, but I can't wait to find my forever home.Dolly's Notes:Dolly is an anxious girl who came to the rescue as a stray. She was rehomed but was sadly returned to us due to her owner struggling to manage her nervous behaviour when out on walks. When Dolly originally came into us she was absolutely terrified on arrival and took some persuading to become friends. She is very food motivated so we have been working on her issues with strangers by everyone she meets giving her lots of treats. This will continue to be a work in progress when she goes to a new home. She does lack confidence when out walking and is easily spooked by a variety of different things, and she can take some persuasion to get her walking. Off lead in our paddock, she is super playful and loves burning off some steam! Dolly does get very anxious of other dogs, and although we have started to work on this with her, we would be looking for a home as the only pet in a home and this work will need to be continued. All advice and help will be given by our behaviour team here at NCAR.Due to her nervous nature, Dolly is looking for a home without children living in the home or visiting. She needs a home with owners who are calm and confident and can build Dolly’s self esteem. Underneath her fear – she is a sweet girl who deserves a second chance!can't live with dogscan't live with children

Drax

Drax's Notes:Drax is a sweet boy that originally came to us as a stray, he recently was adopted but sadly returned for being too much for the resident dog. We really hope that his next home is his final home as he is a very loving boy.Drax was quite timid when he first arrived as a stray, he could be quite nervous meeting new people but this has got better while he has been with us. He is a very friendly boy and always loves a good cuddle. He loves his toys and treats so he is very easy to train. He was very well behaved in the home, just too excitable for the other calm dog in the home. Going forward we are looking for a home with Drax as the only dog. It is very important that his new owners are dedicated to training him and working with him on his ongoing socialisation. Here at the rescue he is generally friendly with dogs but apparently in the home he could be barky with other dogs when out on walks – we will continue to work with him on this during his stay with us but new owners will need to do the same.Drax settled well during the day when he was left alone so can be left up to 4 hours, he was fully housetrained in the home and generally well behaved. He did have 4/6ft fencing but would jump over them so would need 6ft+ fencing and to be supervised in the garden.Drax does have a medical condition called Distichia, where he has extra eyelashes irritating his eye. These have been removed recently but will return so will need further treatment. We can give more details to anyone interested.Generally Drax has had a unsettled few months and with him being so young, this can affect him going into adulthood so we really hope he finds his next home soon as he is such a friendly boy and deserves a lovely home.can live with sensible childrenfriendly with dogsfriendly with strangersgood on the leadis toilet trainedmedical issues

Elliot Working With Potential Owners, a Unknown old male French Bulldog available for adoption from North Clwyd Animal Rescue in Wales

Elliot Working With Potential Owners

Wales
SexMale
AgeUnknown
BreedFrench Bulldog

From a neglected emaciated stray to a fantastic Frenchie, Elliot's had quite a journey!Elliot – Working with potential owners's Notes:Elliot is a French Bulldog and is a really sweet lad. He arrived at NCAR as an emaciated and neglected stray in an awful condition. It seems he’s had a pretty traumatic start to life.He went out on foster where he not only got back into good condition but is much more happy and confident in general. He’s really friendly and loves meeting new people never missing a chance for a cuddle.Elliot is walking much better on lead now and is comfortable in most outdoor environments. Initially he wasn’t able to walk far, but now he’s able to complete walks of around 45 minutes to an hour longElliot wasn’t housetrained at all but now he’s doing much better with that.Although he’s lived with two other dogs on foster he still struggles when he initially sees other dogs on walks. He’s improved massively on this front but still needs help and guidance here. Once he’s comfortable with another dog he’s then really good with them. There has actually been up to 4 other dogs in the foster home with him, and although the introductions took some time, he was fine with all of them.So he certainly has the potential to live with another dog but the introduction period might take some time. If Elliot was to live with another dog they would have to be a really good example for him to follow, be keen on play fighting and confident enough to set out boundaries for him.Ideally Elliot’s new home is with people who are willing to continue his training around other dogs outside and make sure he’s not left for too long on his own. Elliot hasn’t shown any issues with being left for a few hours at a time, but that has always been with other dogs. He’s not yet been left on his own for any length of time. Given his assumed background we don’t want him being left along too long as he’s experienced more of that than any dog should have. We feel he deserves to be in a home with lots of company. At present, Elliot would struggle to live in a really busy area, currently he lives in a large village and can cope with that level of ‘busyness’. Until his confidence and experience is stronger then he’d suit living in a quieter area.He has been around a 7 year old child visiting the foster home, Elliot was pretty unfazed and more than happy to interact in an acceptable way. But, given he was a stray with no known background with children we can’t rehome him where there are children under 5 and older children will be looked at on a case by case basis. Sensible teenagers will be no problem. To understand his journey so far, here is a video blog of his time on foster;Brave Elliot’s rehabcan live with older childrencan live with sensible childrenfriendly with strangersgood on the leadhas lived with dogscan’t live with cats

Elsie

Age4 years

WORKING WITHWoof! I'm Elsie and I am deaf.Elsie's Notes:Elsie is a gorgeous girl who came to the rescue as a stray. She is a very bouncy girl who doesn’t seem to have had much input into her training. She is mostly deaf which makes her training a little more complex. She is a funny girl who will chase balls and toys around the paddock, and she very cheeky as it becomes a game when we’re trying to catch her! She is full of energy so she will thrive in a home where she will get plenty of exercise, she would be an amazing adventure buddy. She does know some hand signals which help to calm her down and sit. She is very clever and eager to learn new things, anyone interested in dog training, Elsie would be great! She does likes other dogs, and so we do feel going with another dog may help her training but she is very full on and with her size, she can be a bit too bouncy. She does get easily fixated on moving objects, such as leaves blowing and likes to chase them on walks. She is gen-con trained which helps with her strength. She sometimes gets nervous of large and fast moving traffic, she needs a bit of guidence with the outside world. She goes out with voluteers and staff, and loves nothing more than going for a long walk, plenty of sniffing and exploring and she will always sit on your lap after a walk for cuddles! She definitely doesn’t know her size!Elsie has so much potential and her character really is lovely. Due to her size and lack of manners, we would be looking for a home with older children in their teens who will want to get involved in her training. We really hope she finds some interest soon as she really is an amazing dog.Dog of the week this week is this amazing girl Elsie looking for her new home! #ncar #rescue #animalrescue #rescuedog #dogrescue #dog #dogsoftiktok #forever #love #home #adoptdontshop #rescuedogsoftiktok #adogisforlife #adoptadoguk #findeachother #dogoftheweekcan live with older childrencan live with sensible childrenfriendly with dogsfriendly with strangerscan’t live with catsmedical issues
