About One Paw At A Time

One Paw At A Time Rescue began in 2011 as a small, two-person rescue and has since grown into an international charity supported by a community of thousands. Over the past 13+ years, One Paw has saved more than 3,000 dogs from UK pounds, Romania, and, more recently, the dog meat trade in China, giving vulnerable dogs a second chance at life. All dogs are placed in foster homes for full behavioural assessment before being carefully matched with suitable adopters, and every adoption includes lifelong rescue back-up. Run by a highly dedicated team, with minimal paid staffing to ensure funds go where they are needed most, the charity works tirelessly beyond formal hours to support dogs in need. Based around Nottingham and gradually expanding across the UK, One Paw remains committed to helping dogs facing the most desperate circumstances.

Meet Charlie – Looking for his Forever Home Location: DerbyFrom: RomaniaAge: Approximately 8 months oldCharlie is a gentle, sensitive boy who’s come a long way since arriving in foster care. When he first came into the home, he was very scared and preferred to stay out of sight. With patience and kindness, his true personality is beginning to shine through and it’s lovely to see.Charlie has formed a strong bond with his foster mum and now happily follows her around the house. He’s started taking treats from her and enjoys gentle strokes. While he’s still a little shy with children, he’s making steady progress and will allow calm, respectful interaction. He lives with two resident female dogs and absolutely loves their company especially playing with the younger one. He’s learning a lot by watching them and is becoming more confident each day, even trying to join in when meeting other dogs and people.Charlie enjoys toys and playtime, and he’s generally calm and well-behaved in the home. He hasn’t shown any signs of aggression and copes well with everyday noises and movement. He’s fine being left alone for short periods, often sitting quietly and watching the world go by.At night, Charlie prefers to sleep in his foster mum’s room, as he can feel unsettled if left alone. He’s housetrained and uses a dog flap, which makes things easy. Mealtimes are supervised, as he’s a quick eater and may try to sneak a taste from other bowls! On walks, Charlie is still adjusting and isn’t a fan of the lead just yet, but he’s comfortable wearing a harness and collar. With continued encouragement, he should gain confidence outdoors.Charlie has been bathed and, although nervous at first, quickly relaxed with reassurance. He travels well in the car and hasn’t yet been introduced to cats.Charlie’s Ideal HomeCharlie would love to live with another small, friendly dog for companionship and to play with.He currently lives with 2 resident female dogs who he gets on well with. He settles well when left alone for short periods with the resident dogs. He could maybe live as an only dog if someone is home a lot of the time.Charlie could live with dog savvy children aged 7+, provided they understand he may need a little time to feel comfortable and they would respect his space. This sweet boy just needs a patient, loving home where he can continue to grow in confidence and feel safe. In return, you’ll gain a loyal companion who will quietly steal your heart.HealthCharlie is microchipped, vaccinated, neutered, and has had all necessary health checks including a negative Brucella Canis test (UK APHA Lab) and 4DX snap test.Home check and adoption donation apply.Adoption & fostering interest formYou could make a donation, sponsor a dog, join our supporters club or buy from our shop. How about volunteering or fundraising for us?We have corporate support opportunities too.

Location: North NottinghamshireBreed: Mixed BreedSex: FemaleAge: Approximately 5 yearsSize: SmallAbout MeI’m a happy, affectionate little girl from Romania who absolutely adores fuss, cuddles, and being around people. I have a gentle, loving nature and enjoy both playtime and quiet moments curled up on the sofa.My Personality & Home NeedsI would thrive in a calm, loving home where I can feel safe and secure. I can live with another confident dog who enjoys play but understands my boundaries—someone who’s up for games of chase and a bit of rough and tumble.I haven’t met children yet, so I’d prefer a home with dog-savvy children aged 11+ who will respect my space.Behaviour & Training• I love meeting new people and have shown no aggression towards people or dogs.• Walks are exciting for me, so I can pull a little, but I’m learning quickly.• I’m getting used to wearing a harness (I might wriggle a bit at first!).• I’m house-trained although I may need a gentle reminder in a new home.• I’m clever and already know how to sit nicely for treats.• I sleep well through the night—either beside my foster family or tucked away in a cosy corner.• My foster mum is teaching me impulse control, and I’m getting better every day!Important Things to Know• I don’t like being left alone, so I will need someone who is around a lot and any alone time will need to be built up gradually.• I can be protective over food around other dogs, so I’m fed separately in a crate.• I travel well in a crate but can get excited if just on a seatbelt.• I’m not afraid of traffic.• I chase cats in the garden so a cat-free home is best.Health & Adoption Details• Microchipped, vaccinated, and neutered• 4DX tested (negative)• Rabies vaccinated• Brucella Canis tested (negative, UK APHA lab)• Currently in foster with 5 other dogs in North NottinghamshireCould you be my forever home?I’m a loving, playful, and loyal companion who just needs the right home to truly shine. Meet Marble! – Your Future Best Friend Location: NottinghamshireHi there! I’m a medium sized female crossbreed from Romania, around 20 months old, and full of life and love!I’m a happy, playful, and super affectionate girl who adores attention, cuddles, and having fun. I’d love a home with another young, active doggy buddy to play with, learn from, and help me grow in confidence. My Perfect HomeI’m looking for a calm, loving home where someone is around most of the time. I’m still learning how to be left alone, so that’ll need to be built up slowly.I’d also love: Lots of social doggy friends on walks A family that enjoys long walks and playtime A patient home that will keep helping me with my training Out & AboutI travel great in the car with my harness and seatbelt — I even jump in and out by myself! I walk nicely on my lead and really enjoy exploring the world and all its new sights and smells. Playtime & RoutineI LOVE toys, especially ones with rope or squeakers (they’re the best!). At night, I sleep soundly in my dog bed in my foster mum’s room with my furry foster siblings.️ Food & TrainingI’m a good eater — maybe too good! I’ll happily eat near other dogs, though I might try to sneak a bite of their dinner if I can. I’m still a youngster, so I’d really benefit from training classes and firm boundaries. My foster mum is teaching me impulse control, and I’m doing well as I’m a quick learner!(I am fully housetrained but I might need a little reminder in a new home).‍‍ Family LifeBecause I can be a bit bouncy, I’d do best with dog-savvy kids aged 11+ who understand my space. I haven’t met any cats yet, so I’m not sure what I’d think of them. My Current LifeRight now, I live with my foster family in Nottinghamshire along with two other dogs — and we get on great! Health & Adoption InfoI’m microchipped, spayed, and neutered, have tested negative for Brucella Canis (UK APHA Lab), had my rabies vaccination, and my 4DX snap test was also negative. Meet Millie seeking her Forever Home Location: KentAge: Approximately 9 months oldSex: FemaleMillie is a beautiful young Romanian rescue puppy with a sweet, affectionate nature. When she first arrived in foster care, she was understandably a little subdued and needed time to settle into her new surroundings. However, within just a few days, her confidence began to grow, and she quickly showed what a loving and friendly girl she is.Millie enjoys being around people and has been welcoming towards everyone she has met, including men, women, visitors to the home. She may occasionally approach new people with a little caution at first but she soon relaxes and enjoys attention and affection.Living with Other DogsMillie thrives in the company of other dogs and has formed a particularly close bond with her sister, Hope. The pair love to play together and are often found play-fighting and enjoying each other’s company. She is also very friendly with her foster mum’s resident dog and has shown excellent social skills around other dogs both inside and outside the home. Millie gains confidence from having canine companionship and appears happiest when walking alongside another dog.For this reason, we feel Millie would be best suited to a home with at least one other friendly resident dog.Walks and Social LifeMillie walks beautifully on her lead and harness and has shown no reactivity towards people or other dogs. She is calm and observant on walks and will sometimes sit and watch other dogs from a distance rather than rush towards them.Although she has mostly experienced rural walks so far, she has coped well with meeting other walkers and dogs along the way. We feel she would cope well in social situations and continue to grow in confidence. At HomeMillie is a loving, relaxed companion who enjoys being close to her people. She sleeps well and settles overnight.Millie’s house training is improving all the time but she may need reminding of this in a new home.HealthMillie is microchipped, fully vaccinated, spayed, and has had all necessary health checks including a negative Brucella Canis test (UK APHA Lab) and 4DX snap test.Home check and adoption donation apply.Adoption & fostering interest formYou could make a donation, sponsor a dog, join our supporters club or buy from our shop. How about volunteering or fundraising for us?We have corporate support opportunities too.
