About PawPrints To Freedom

Our Safe Haven Kennels is a UK-based rescue facility opened in 2021 in Nantwich, Cheshire, created to provide a calm and supportive environment for dogs in need. The kennels were established to help dogs who struggled in busy shelter settings, particularly those rescued from overseas, as well as to offer a secure backup space for UK dogs returning to the rescue. Designed with welfare in mind, the centre allows potential adopters to meet dogs by appointment and get to know them properly before adoption. Since opening, Our Safe Haven Kennels has seen rapid growth, rehoming more than 200 dogs in 2023 alone, and continues to expand its role as a vital stepping stone between rescue and a permanent, loving home.

Ahab

Somerset
SexMale
Age10 years
BreedUnknown

Ahab is a gentle old boy looking for his retirement home. He has been described by the kennels in Romania where he has spent most of his life as an old soul and they were ecstatic he was chosen to travel to the UK. If you are looking for a chill, distinguished gentleman look no further as you have just found him.Ahab is getting used to living in a home and he is developing into a very polite housemate. He isn’t quite toilet trained yet but he’s trying his best and very nearly there. He doesn’t bark at visitors and is very pleased to see everyone he meets.Ahab walks beautifully on the lead. He doesn’t react at all when dogs around him behave unpredictably. He is happy to follow wherever you want to go and he doesn’t pull in the opposite direction. He does find loud cars and motorbikes scary but can be settled and reassured without incident. He currently has short walks and would be happy in a less active household although he is spritely for his age and could be walked for longer with no issues.Ahab would be suited to most homes. He is the kind of dog that doesn’t ask for much, just love and belly rubs, and he gives so much more back in return. He deserves a warm fire, and a comfy sofa in his twilight years to make up for the heartbreaking life he has had so far. You will not find a more deserving dog than this sweet boy.

Albie is trying his best but is still quite nervous of people he doesn’t know and situations he’s never encountered before. At first he is scared of visitors to the house so will bark at them, or run for comfort but he comes out of his shell once he realizes they are just friends he hasn’t met yet.Albie loves to play outside and gets very excited. He is happy to wear a collar but is still scared of the lead so further training will be required to make him feel safe.Albie hasn’t lived with children but has shown himself to be friendly and gentle with people he knows so he would be suitable for a home with calm children after introductions.Albie has been described as “a beautiful dog with a lovely spirit about him, once he’s comfortable with you he will be your best friend”. He would make a lovely addition to most households and would be so grateful to have a forever family and a comfy sofa to snuggle into.‍ Albie has not worn a lead and will need further training

Barney

Meet Barney, Barney is very food orientated and loves lots of different food and treats, this is good for training purposes. He also love soft things like blankets and toys to keep him cosy.Barney is more fearful of men and therefore a female orientated household would be best for him. He is a very independent boy who enjoys his own company and is happy to keep himself company, he can however be a nervous boy and needs human reassurance to teach him the world isn't a scary place.Barney would need a quieter home with minimal visitors and someone able to continue building up his confidence with this. Barney is a lot more confident on walks and although nervous he will be able to be around people more comfortably.Barney accepts a collar, harness and lead. He can pull slightly on the lead due to excitement however generally he walks very well. He can sometimes be spooked by dogs behind him or people in front and will freeze however with encouragement he will continue, he can also be known to chew the lead so he will need to be kept double leaded at all times to keep him safe. Dogs can make him nervous and he will need continued work on this, he is generally his best self while out on a walk and enjoys this lots. Barney enjoys his walks and will sit patiently to have his lead out on however he does prefer being home and cosy.Barney can be very nervous around dogs while on walks however he has previously enjoyed their company and seemed to gain confidence from them.He could share his home with a calm, confident dog who can help build his confidence and show him the way however he would need slow and sensible introductions so he doesn't become overwhelmed.Barney cannot live with cats and has been known to chase birds and cats on walks.Barney has never been around children, due to his nervous nature it is felt he would prefer a child free home or with children 14+ following slow and sensible introductions.Barney can show guarding behaviours around items he likes within the home such as rugs and couches. He will need firm clear boundaries in his home and someone able to work on this with him. He should not have access to furniture to ensure he doesn't feel the need to guard this.Barney is toilet trained and crate trained. He isn't destructive within the home however can chew his own toys and destroy them and has chewed hole in his blanket. When barney first arrived he could also be a cheeky boy and steal items within the house, this could be cups, towels etc however he never destroyed them. He can be left alone for long periods of time with no issues and prefers his isolated time. He is also fine overnight and is very quiet with no issues. If you would like to welcome this lovely boy into your home, please apply:
