About Paws and People

Paws and People is a small, home-run registered charity that began rescuing animals in 2014 and became officially registered in December 2015. Operated 24/7 by a dedicated mother and daughter team, the rescue focuses on rehabilitating and rehoming unwanted and abused animals of all kinds. As a non-profit organisation with no external funding, it relies entirely on public donations to continue its work. For the safety of both animals and the public, Paws and People operates as a closed-door rescue, with visits strictly by appointment and a structured adoption application process.

Bella, a 8 years old female Cocker Spaniel available for adoption from Paws and People in Northern Ireland

Paws and People

Bella

Northern Ireland
SexFemale
Age8 years
BreedCocker Spaniel

Bella is a special girl who needs a suitable home.Bella is a beautiful little Cocker spaniel x Retriever who needs a suitable adult only home. She isnt suitable around kids, so needs a home with no kids and if any kids are visiting she would need to be kept seperately. She is crate trained, so could be placed in a crate in a seperate room.Bella is ok with other dogs on walks and can share her play area with other dogs no problem, but she would like to be the only dog in the home as she much prefers her own space. She likes playing with her toys and would play fetch all day if you let her. She is also happy to content herself running around with a toy in her mouth or watching the birds. She does walk ok on the lead in quiet and rural areas, but in busier areas she has a tendancy to pull towards fast moving objects such as cars, cyclists etc. Aslong as she gets her needs met through excercise or brain games she is a happy girl. If she doesnt and she gets bored, she can start staring at shadows/reflections due to boredom. She is used to sleeping a crate at night time. She did have a nipping/biting incident in her previous home when they tried to pick her out of the carboot while she was sleeping, so its believed she may have some sleep startle. We have had no aggression from her during her time with us, she is very food and toy orientated which makes training easier. She is a good girl who just needs a suitable forever home. Before coming into our care, Bella did suffer from ongoing tummy issues. Tests were done and it was discovered she had been dealing with an ongoing parasite infection which required special medication to treat. She has now completed two courses of this medication to make sure all the bugs are dead. But as a result of the years without treatment, she has been left with a sensitive tummy and can have flair ups of soft stool at times.

He would likely need potential adopters to visit more than once as it takes him quite a while to warm up to new people. Once he got used to me, he became very cuddly and affectionate and will follow me everywhere if i let him. He is currently working on going for short walks on a harness, he is terrified of the leads around his neck and will panic and thrash about. But he is doing well on the harness and is growing in confidence. He will need alot of time, patience and understanding. He will now walk on a slip lead for me as he trusts me, be wont walk on a slip lead for anyone else, so a harness would be required.

CP is a lovely boy who needs an extra special home.CP came into our care from one of the local pounds, due to having a sore leg they were unable to rehome him. He had xrays and assessments with our vet and also got a second opinion, but it was discovered that the bones in his leg was deformed and causing him great discomfort and due to him not using the leg the vets said the only option was amputation. He has recovered well from the surgery and it hasnt held him back one bit. He is infact much happier and care free now.CP is great with other dogs of a similar size, currently used to living with three other dogs with no issues, but he can find larger dogs overwhelming. He is absolutely fine with cats and could live with a cat no problem. We were told that CP is child friendly, but we think he would be best in a home with teens and over as he can get worried at times, and he can also bond hard with some people and not always want to share the attention (this has caused him to snap at some people on occasion). He spends most of his day currently snuggled up under the duvet in my mothers room. He has become her shadow and loves being close, often spending the night snuggled up right against her back or face. So im sure he will bond with the next person just as much and very quickly become your best friend. He hasnt shown signs of seperation anxiety. He is good in the house, but might need some house training as he settles into a new home and routine, he currently uses puppy pads if we are not home. He has never been noisy or destructive whilst within the home. He is also used to a crate, but we dont use it very often.A secure garden would be required for his safety.

Finn is a very friendly and smart boy who knows many tricks and is very eager to learn. He had seperation anxiety, so may cry and bark when alone.Finn is one of our longer term residents, he would love a forever home. Please read the entire description before applying. Finn is a 5yr old Lurcher, he loves people and can be live in a home with teens and older. He is not suitable around kids as he hasnt been around kids before. Finn has been in rescue now over 2 years, so he will need a patient and understanding home who will allow him time to decompress and adjust when in a new home. He is a very smart boy, who loves to learn. He knows alot of tricks such as sit, down, paw, spin and jump up. He has alot of brains and would thrive in a home who loves training. He loves food, cuddles and playing with his toys. He loves playing fetch and going for long walks. Finn does have lead reactivity, we are happy to cover some training sessions to help with this, with one of our approved dog trainers. When we are walking him, he does well for me and is easy to redirect his attention. In rescue Finn does mix with other medium/large dogs pretty well in introduced properly, but would like a home as the only dog as he is going to need additional care and time, and when it comes to his toys or bones he doesnt like sharing them with other dogs, he is fine sharing them with me. Finn was house trained in his previous home, but he has been in kennels for a few years, so he may need some refreshing initially, though he is smart so ive no doubt he would learn again very quickly. In his last home he had very bad seperation anxiety and would cry when alone, he doesnt display this anymore here. But when in a new home he may display this behaviour again, so he will need someone who can build up his leaving times slowly. Finn has been a good boy whilst in our care the past few years, he is a smart boy with alot of potential, he just needs a specific home who is willing to help him become his best self.

Harlow, a 2 years old male German Shepherd available for adoption from Paws and People in Northern Ireland

Harlow

Northern Ireland
SexMale
Age2 years
BreedGerman Shepherd

Beautiful friendly and loving boy seeking a suitable forever home.Harlow has come into rescue due to his owners being pet sitters and they said the constant new people and dogs coming in and out was just too stressful for Harlow to cope with and so felt a new home where there is less constant changes would be best for this gentle giant. Harlow is great with other dogs and could live with another dog no problem, to be honest a home with another dog would be prefered as he is used to having company all the time so dont know how he will cope on his own. In his previous home he also lived with kids, and they said he was very good with the children. So could live in a home with dog savy kids who are used to large dogs. He also previously lived with a cat, so could live with a dog savy cat if given proper introductions.Harlow can be reactive on the lead (barks and pulls) as he wants to play with other dogs, so this will require patience, understanding, and continued training to help him overcome this behaviour. He is generally very strong on the lead, so would probably have to go back to the basics. In the countryside and quiet areas he walks pretty well once he has got going, as there is alot less stress and stimulation around him. He is just a big bouncy baby boy, who also has some anxiety at times. He can be a high-energy boy but settles well when he receives regular exercise. He loves playing with the other dogs and absolutely loves playing fetch, though he doesnt always bring it back. He is happy to relax in the garden and squeak his tennis balls or roll in the long grass. He is a really wonderful boy. Harlow would be best suited to a home with someone who is around most of the time initally to provide a stable and consistent settling-in period. He can become anxious in new surroundings until he feels safe and secure. He has been previously house trained and previously crate trained. A home in a more rural or quiet area would be best, with a fully secure garden to ensure his safety.Harlow is an amazing boy, who just needs a patient and understanding home who is willing to put in some training initally to help him gain confidence and mature into his best self. He is the best boy and a real cuddle bug. He can be a little shy with some people initally, but once you give him some tasty treats and attention he soon becomes your best friend. In the home he is pretty settled and in general is just a wonderful boy with a great temperment. He will just need ongoing support and training in regards to his lead training and reactivity.

Hatchi is a lovely boy seeking a suitable forever home.Hatchi is a beautiful boy who has been through a few homes in his young life before we got him, so we would love to find him his forever home. His recent owner had to surrender him through no fault of Hatchi or the family, they had a change in family circumstances. Hatchi is a very sweet boy, he is good with people and loves attention, he can be shy with some people at first but he comes around very quickly. He would be best in a home with kids 12yrs and over.Hatchi is ok with other dogs, but he can be anxious which can cause him to be very vocal and scared of some dogs until he gets used to them. He much prefers dogs who arent in his face all the time. In our home he is currently sharing with two other dogs no problem. So could potentially live with another dog pending successful meet and greet.Hatchi is naturally a more nervous boy in general, so will need a patient loving home willing to give him time to settle in. He settled in to our home very quickly, but every home is different. He walks well on the lead, but again due to being nervous he would likely react if an offlead dog was to run up into his space. He just hasnt had alot of socialisation, so will take time to learn and grow in confidence. But we are seeing improvements every day. In the house he is very happy and well behaved, outside of the house he is very anxious and is working on this, but it is something that his new family will have to continue working on. (We can offcourse cover training support no problem, to help him become the best boy he can be.) A more rural and calm area would be best, he definately wouldnt suit a built up and busy living area.Hatchi has been quite settled in our home, not destructive or anything. He is also happy to sleep in a crate overnight if required. But he will need some house training initally, as he settles and adjusts to a new home and routine.

Beautiful cuddle bug, seeking his loving forever homes. Kevin is a wonderful pup with a great temperment. This beautiful boy is Kevin, he was surrendered into our care by his family through no fault of his own.We have been told that Kevin is a Poodle x Schnauzer (they bought him as a Schnoodle). Based on his current size one or both of his parents must have been the standard size for their breeds, so Kevin could continue to grow to a large size. He is currently just under 10kg.Kevin is a pup so he is offcourse friendly with people of all ages and can also be raised around any kind of animal. He is a super friendly, cuddly little guy.He will need all his basic puppy training, he is doing well with house training and lead training, but this will need continued in his new home.Someone home alot intially would be best, as he is only a baby and shouldnt be alone for extended periods. He has been used to the company of other dogs and shown no signs of seperation anxiety whilst with the other dogs, offcourse if he was in a home on his own without a dog companion this could be different. With being a poodle x Schnauzer, he will need a more active home who can meet his mental and physical needs as he grows and matures. Please note that because we didnt see his parents ourselves we cannot gurantee there isnt any other breeds in the mix. So cant gurantee he is suitable for those allergic to dogs.

Leeroy is a very sensitive boy, seeking a forever home.Leeroy was recently surrendered to rescue, due to the landlord no longer allowing pets.He was raised in a home with kids and he loved them. Since coming to rescue he has offcourse found it quite overwhelming, but he is starting to show his personality more each day. He is still quite shy with people, he has just lost his family so it will just take him some time to adjust. But his confidence is growing daily. He is generally good with other dogs, he mixes with a range of dogs here, big and small. So he could live with another dog pending a meet and greet, but also happy being the only dog aslong as he has some human company around most of the time. He can occassionally find certain dogs overwelming, and does seem to prefer females and neutered males more. Intact males he sometimes gets on ok, sometimes they dont.Leeroy can get upset when left alone, so would need someone home most of the time to build up his leaving times slowly. But if you have another dog, this might help also. He has had previous house training, but might need a little refreshing in a new home and routine. However in rescue he is so far quite a clean boy in the kennels. He does have some crate training.Leeroy is 30kg, so he is a strong boy. So when walking he can pull, but does calm down once he gets going. He has been used to living in a rural location, so everything will be new to him and he will just need time to grow in confidence. He is still very much a big pup.

Lola is a beautiful big teddy bear who just needs a suitable forever home.Lola is a lovely big girl, who just loves people. Once she bonds with you, she is like your shadow.Lola is great in the house and has been used to living in a loving home most of her life. So she would really love to find a new home to spend the rest of her life.Lola does mix with other medium and large dogs here at the rescue and can socialise with other dogs on a one to one basis with the correct introductions. She can be nervous with other dogs sometimes. Lola would love a home as the only dog, as she deserves to have all the attention. But could also live with another medium/large dog, ideally male.Whilst Lola has lived with kids previously, she has had some food guarding issues around feed times and bones in the past. Whilst this is no longer an issue she deals with here, a home with teens and over is required. (Please dont let this put you off, her families have all said she is an amazing girl, this behaviour can be easily managed if it occurs again in the future.)Lola is not suitable around cats or small animals. She would be best in a more rural or quiet area as she can be reactive on lead at times, she doesn't like strange dogs running into her space when on walks. We can cover some training costs to help with this issue. True to the Akita in her mix, she is very loyal to her family and would love a family who will be equally as loyal to her. We really need this next home to be her forever home.

Sockie is a very friendly girl who just needs a commited forever home. This beautiful girl is Sockie, she has come into our care from the dog pound. After finding herself in the pound three times in her young life.Sockie is a very friendly girl who just wants to be close and getting attention. She mixes well with other dogs of all sizes and loves a good game of chase. She is child friendly and previously lived happily with children. She loves snuggling up on the sofa and in general in the home she is a very settled and well behaved girl. She has been house trained and crate trained, but offcourse you do have to allow her some grace during her first week or two in a new home as its a stressful time. She is ok being left alone for a few hours at a time. A home with another dog would be preferred but is not essential. She is a smart girl who knows how to sit on command, and is eager to learn new tricks in exchange for attention or tasty treats. She walks good in quiet areas, but she does need some lead training as she can become over excited in more busier areas or when she see's dogs on walks. Some positive dog training will certainly help her lead walking. We are happy to help towards some dog training with a positive reinforcement trainer. Sockie is a fun girl, who will require a secure garden. She is not suitable with cats or around livestock as she finds them to exciting and would offcourse chase them if allowed too.

Tyler is the best boy, he has been an absolute delight since coming back into our care.Tyler was originally born in rescue, when his mother Flo came into our care pregnant. All the pups found their new homes, including Tyler. But recently his adopter had been having a few issues and so he was returned to our care. Tyler is a very special pup to me, as I hand reared him as he was so small and fragile as a pup. We nearly lost him a few times when he was only a few weeks old, but he is a strong boy who fought to live and now he has matured into a beautiful healthy and happy boy.Since being in our care we have found Tyler to be an amazing and very social young lurcher. He is amazing with other dogs both big and small, and would love a forever home with another dog ideally as he loves to play. He is fully house trained and is so far not destructive in anyway. He loves meeting new people and is not shy in any way, he is a very affectionate and loving boy. Tyler is currently working on his lead manners as he does pull on the lead currently, but he is still only a pup so plenty of time to learn. We are happy to cover some inital training for him with one of the trainers we trust, if this is required. Im more than happy to chat about Tyler and his needs in more detail to any potential adopters. All I can say is he is an amazing boy.Tyler is absolutely fine socialising with humans of various ages when in public etc. But at the moment he would be best in a home with adults only as he does have some food guarding issues, we manage this well at the rescue, but it will need careful management also when rehomed. Please don't let this put you off, as he is a good boy, this issue can be managed well with some structure. We are also happy to cover some training costs with a positive dog trainer in regards to this issue.Tylers welfare is paramount, and just like any other animal in our care. He will be safe and loved here until we find the most suitable home for him. He will only go to a home that will love and appreciate him as much as we do. He is an amazing dog!

Vixen is a beautiful girl, who had a bad start in life. She's still very frightened of humans and will require an understanding home to make her feel safeVixen is a beautiful girl, who had a bad start in life. She was pretty much feral when she came in to rescue with her mother and siblings. Her siblings have all been rehabilitated and rehomed, but Vixen is still very scared of humans, though she will now walk amongst people rather than hide against the wall. She is ok with me picking her up now and does comes looking for attention at time. But she still by all means a very dog orientated dog, who much prefers other dogs rather than humans. She can still be a little snappy with strangers if she feels trapped. For this reason her home is adult only, not suitable with children. She needs a lot of time & patience. She will require a secure garden with 6ft boundaries, as smaller fencing wouldnt be safe enough if she got scared or spooked.A home with another dog would be required, as she loves other dogs and has always had them around. She is great with big and small dogs. She is currently working on her lead training, but as she is timid of people, she doesnt really like being on lead still. Though has started to show some improvement with the use of a harness. She would need time to bond and adjust to a new home and maybe practice walking around the garden, before trying to take her on walks as she will find it very stressful when she gets rehomed and would be a flight risk initially. In the house she is generally pretty chill and loves snuggling into other dogs and just relaxing. She can get spooked though at times, so having a crate covered with a bed inside, gives her a safe space to run back to if she needs her own space. She will need a very special and patient home, but ive no doubt with love, that she could become a happy girl. She does show her happy and playful side when in the enclosed field running around with her friends. Please note she will also need most basic training such as house training, as she is currently in kennels mostly.
