American Akita crossbreed White and black 9 Years (approx) Ref: 198/26 AJ is a beautiful Akita cross Staffordshire Bull Terrier who came into our care due to a change in his owner’s circumstances. Since arriving at the centre, he has shown himself to be a sensitive and sometimes nervous boy, but with time, patience, and reassurance, his confidence has grown and he has made lots of friends along the way.He is a goofy and playful boy who loves to play with toys and enjoys having fusses. AJ walks lovely on lead and is very calm around other dogs. AJ can be nervous and unsure around children, so we feel he would be best suited to an adultonly home where he can feel safe and secure. While AJ has made dog friends at the centre, we believe he would thrive most as the only dog in the home, where he can enjoy all the love, attention, and spoiling for himself. Beneath his shy exterior is a truly affectionate and lovable character looking for a calm, relaxed home. I may have had a very tough start to my life, but I refuse to let my past define me! The wonderful team at Millbrook have been helping me learn how to trust again, and I have made massive strides. I am a brave, resilient boy who only has three legs, but that doesn't slow me down! I am just looking for a special family to help me write my next, best chapter.Once I know you and trust you, I am an absolute lovebug! My love is full-on—I’m talking enthusiastic greetings, big energy, and total devotion. Because I can be a bit bouncy when I'm expressing my affection, I need a home with older, dog-savvy teenage children who can handle my joyful outbursts.I can still be a little wary of new people when we are out and about around the centre. Because of this, I am looking for patient adopters who have experience with nervous dogs and are excited to continue working on my confidence and training. Ava struts around like she owns the place, greets every day with enthusiasm, and is absolutely bursting with character. She's loving, playful, sweet, and loves life, with a sprinkle of aloofness, in true Akita fashion. She can be a little vocal if another dog gets too close for comfort on walks, so she needs a home that's happy to give her space and work on this with her. Other than that, she's an absolute dream to be around.

Barney originally came from another rescue who could not provide him with what he needed. He has then spent the last few months in a sanctuary set up where he has blossomed and done really well. He is now ready to find a new home.Barney is a clever and extremely affectionate boy. He greets everyone with joy and will happily sit on the lap of anyone or go for a walk with anyone. Barney walks quite well on the lead and on a long line. He is a terrier so he doesn’t go off lead out and about but goes off in secure fields/areas and when there’s no distractions his recall is good.Barney is clean in his kennel once he knows his routine. He is completely not destructive and can be left for a few hours without making a noise or any issue providing the environment is relatively calm.He is a busy little terrier, likes a scent but also enjoys home comforts so he would benefit from an active home but he still wants to be a pet. He has no food or toy reactivity, although he likes both he’s not possessive even over high value items.Barney is anxious of other dogs so can appear reactive if he’s worried and doesn’t like dogs in his face but he copes well with dogs that ignore him. He finds dogs overwhelming unless he knows they are ok.Barney has visited pubs and cafes, where he was great but he will bark at other dogs he sees pass through a window but that only appears to be in these situations. We think he would definitely improve on these things with a little more practice and guidance.Barney has several walkers and has met lots of people and we’ve never seen a negative reaction to any. Very young kids might be overstimulating for him but he may be able to live with older, terrier savvy children.He’s a really sweet boy, just needs that active ‘terrier’ family, he will walk and walk and walk. Originally from Romania, he has found the transition into kennels incredibly overwhelming and is one of the more nervous dogs in our care. The world can feel like a very scary place for Bear, and he's looking for a patient, experienced family who can help him learn that life doesn't have to be so frightening. Although progress has been slow, Bear has started to build trusting relationships with the people he knows well. Loud noises, sudden movements, and unfamiliar situations can still be very daunting for him, and the busy kennel environment is not where he feels most comfortable. Because of this, we're looking for a calm, quiet home with people who have experience of, or a good understanding of, nervous Romanian rescue dogs. Bear will need adopters who are happy to let him settle at his own pace without expecting too much too soon. Bear may not be the kind of dog who is ready to greet everyone he meets, but for the right family, watching him grow in confidence and begin to trust will be incredibly rewarding. Introducing our 8 month old, adolescent Rottweiler, Bear! Bear is a superstar and he quickly stole the heart of everyone here at the centre, after arriving due to no fault of his own! This handsome boy is in peak adolesence and is showing behaviours typical for his age. He lacks confidence in new environments, but LOVEs learning new things! He thinks he is still a tiny puppy and can fit on your knee, but will get adult sized zoomies! He is extremely affectionate, but can be unsure of being overly handled, for this reason he would be best with children of secondary school age or older. Bear could live with another confident, friendly dog, dependent on successful meets. When Bear is unsure, he may bark, but he is learning some really good focus work and acing his training plan! He would benefit from attending training classes, but he has already ticked off all the basics, its just the harder skills he needs to master!

DISCLAIMER: Please read Beetle’s story very carefully as we are looking for a very specific home for him!Beetle is a Borsky breed (Siberian Husky and Border Collie cross). Due to this cross, it means that Beetle will be a high maintenance breed. They are highly intelligent, extremely energetic, loyal but can be very stubborn. He requires an active family, a lot of mental stimulation (enrichment, training) and an experienced handler. Beetle may look more like a Collie, however, his temperament is more Husky. He’s vocal and full of attitude which although part of his charm, can be misunderstood by inexperienced dog handlers. Therefore we are looking for a home where the family have previous Husky experience. Beetle is a handsome, young male (2 years of age), so his potential adopters will need to be physically fit as he can be strong when he sees something of interest. However, he does have the potential to walk nice on lead, mostly in quiet areas (his favourite).While Beetle has been with us at the centre, he has had lots of training. He’s very curious and has walked out with some of the dogs at the centre. When meeting other dogs, it can be overwhelming for him and he can be intense and vocal when first meeting, but will settle after he calms. Beetle has shown in the kennels that he does exhibit signs of resource guarding (this is breed specific to the Siberian Husky). Therefore, he will not be allowed to go with any dogs just to manage this type of behaviour. However, he can still be able to walk out with other dogs, dependant on the dogs being able to cope with how vocal and energetic he can be. He will not be allowed to go with cats or small mammals. Although Beetle can come off as intense, all he needs most is socialisation. He’s very curious about the world around him and needs a confident and adventurous family to show and teach him about new experiences (all in a positive and supportive manner). While Beetle has been at the centre, he hasn’t been happy in kennels. He is currently on behaviour medication to help him cope with the stresses of kennels. His potential adopters will need to continue and wean him off appropriately with the help of vet advise. More information will be provided upon request.Beetle is also very independent and will only accept touch and attention on his terms. When he does want that human interaction, he can be a very loving, loyal and affectionate companion. However, this will have to be developed over time with patience and space. With this in mind We are looking for an adult only home, no children (living or visiting the home) under the age of 16 years.
