About Rushton Dog Rescue

Rushton Dog Rescue is an animal rescue charity founded in memory of Timothy Rushton, whose dream was to create a dog rescue centre in Spain. Established over 17 years ago by his partner Cindi, the charity has grown into a dedicated rescue run by Cindi and her daughter Zoe, with animal welfare at the heart of everything they do. Rushton Dog Rescue has helped save thousands of dogs over the years, alongside horses, cats, and other animals in need, often stepping in when no other options are available. Driven by compassion and determination, the charity works tirelessly to rescue, protect, and provide safety for vulnerable animals wherever possible.

*EDDIE HAS MADE AMAZING PROGRESS WITH US, WE FEEL HE CAN BE ADOPTED NOW TO THE CORRECT ENVIRONMENT*We saved Eddie after he was being passed around on a social media platform and given away to one bad home after another. He was forced to wear an electric shock collar which in turn has caused him to have some behaviour issues.Eddie is a very spritely boy who is full of fun energy, he is good with other dogs but does like to chase and play a lot and can become quite frustrated with them if they do not want to interact with him. We believe he may be better as an only dog due to this factor, however we do also believe that it depends on the type of person who would be his new humans and what experience and environment they hold.Eddies adoptive home must have experience with his breed, he is very outgoing for a Pomeranian and has and will nip and tell you if he isn’t happy with something. We do feel he will be able to adapt into a home but it will only work if it’s with the correct understanding, patient people.Eddie HATES his neck area being touched, he does not like a collar and also doesn’t really like being groomed so these things MUST be taken into consideration. Eddie cannot be homed near children due to his little man attitude. He is very sweet in many ways and once he feels comfortable he’s happy to be cuddled but everything is on his own terms, we do believe he may be more settled in a home environment with one person so he can have them all to himself and they can get to understand his quirky ways!Eddie loves food and is very food driven which helps when trying to do certain things with him. Eddie loves being outside mooching around and doing his thing, we would love for him to have a big garden (fully secure) so he can safely run and play without the worry of having to be on a lead all the time being walked. He just doesn’t really like the whole lead going on and off.. it’s due to his treatment before us saving him which is understandable.Eddie would be perfect for someone who has had a small dog with a sassy personality and willing to allow him to be himself but in turn understand that he can react when put in a position he isn’t happy with. Being that he’s small, young and has many positive traits we do really want to try and see if we can find him a safe loving home where he will be understood. There’s lots more we can tell you about this little handsome dude and his quirky ways as we’ve gotten to know him pretty well since saving him. He’s been neutered and was actually pretty well behaved in the vets. He is extremely comical which certainly helps with being his cheeky naughty self.He has made such brilliant progress, he is happy for us to show him affection and love, he has really learnt that not all us humans are harmful and is trust has grown hugely. We’re very proud of him and will be so happy if we find him the correct home for him!

Hugo, a 4 years old male Maltese available for adoption from Rushton Dog Rescue in Somerset

Hugo

Somerset
SexMale
Age4 years
BreedMaltese

Are you the perfect home for Hugo? – please read his write up in full before applying to adopt. He needs a specific home. Our boy Hugo is a handsome lad who has had a pretty unsettling time recently, he really does need some stability and commitment.Hugo is a small boy but very lively, he is full of beans with an active nature, he loves to be in his humans company and doesn’t do well at being left alone, we understand this as he hasn’t been settled for awhile so he’s feeling a little all over the place.Hugo once he knows you is super! He is standoffish with new people and will back away and bark, he has been a little nippy but since he’s learnt that we are friends not foe he is really friendly, he loves nothing more than a cuddle and play but this is not an instant thing with him.Hugo needs a home with a secure safe garden, a home where he will not be left alone regularly, NO children or visiting children due to his nervousness.Hugo needs someone 100% committed to him and willing to allow him to take time to trust, he is an adorable looking boy so we think we will have lots of enquires however it must be the right home for his needs. He needs an adopter who has experience with small dogs with similar behaviours so he is fully understood.Hugo cannot risk any more upset or moves so his adoptive home has to be the exactly right place for him.Hugo has seemed okay around other dogs just a little barky but walks past no problems, we think he will be best as the only dog so he can get everything he needs and be the sole apple of his new adopters eye! Please do not apply if you don’t fit his criteria and if you’re not willing to be 100% committed- we cannot reply to applications that are not suitable.

Koda is absolutely stunning with striking looks.Koda would need an experienced husky home to ensure they fully understand his breeds needs.Koda would love a good sized enclosed garden so he can run and play, he can go with other dogs..would be amazing if he went in a home with his same breed.Koda would be best in an adult only environment as he is a pup who is learning and needs the full attention on him.Koda really is a sweet well behaved lad who hasn’t caused us an ounce of bother, he also isn’t displaying any signs of separation anxiety.Koda truly deserves a settled committed adopter who will cherish him.

Krissy, a 2 years old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier available for adoption from Rushton Dog Rescue in Somerset

Krissy

Somerset
SexFemale
Age2 years
BreedStaffordshire Bull Terrier

Krissy, she has had such an awful life until we saved her. She has been beaten, kept in a shed, forced into pregnancy then discarded just hours before she was due to give birth. We took Krissy in as an emergency to ensure her and her puppies safety. Within hours of arriving she went into labour and delivered her puppies. Sadly with Krissy being extremely stressed, poor condition she was unable to care for her puppies, we took over the care fully and hand reared them. This meant Krissy could recover from her abuse without any added pressure.Krissy soon realised that she was indeed safe, she was being fed, loved, respected and treated for her awful skin. Krissy is now looking super healthy and happy!Krissy would love to find her forever home, she is due to be spayed in the next few weeks then after recovery she will be able to be adopted, until then we would love to have her perfect home lined up waiting for her.Krissy does have trust issues, with men. She goes into absolute fear, shakes, runs, trembles and can’t even make eye contact, we know it was a man who abused her mainly so this is not a surprise, however with women she is much for comfortable, she gets on with all us ladies here and is super loving, Krissy is going to need a special home, a home with a lady… We do not and won’t not put her in a situation that is going to cause her stress. It’s not fair.Krissy is super with her playing, she absolutely loves toys!! More the better and she would spend hours playing with you throwing her balls, watching her run. She is super fast when she comes out for her free running and her little face just beams! The other favourite thing of krissys is food! Food is life, she just can’t get over that she’s fed every single day, and treats.. oh they are just the best!Krissy is going to need a home with good sized secure garden, her home is going to have to be pretty rural so she doesn’t have to walk out in busy areas, she wouldn’t cope with that.. too many people too much stress for Krissy.Krissy would be best as an only dog as she has never shared her space with another as far as we are aware ( apart from when she was forced to breed) the thing is with Krissy when she has her person then that person is her safety, she deserves to have that all to herself and we believe she will be much happier as she can have all the toys in the world all to herself!Krissy is going to need an experienced adopter, an adopter with a calm, chilled environment with no pressure, a home where she can take every day at a time, learn that her new environment is safe and all hers.Krissy is such a lovely girl who never deserved all she has had to endure but her future is going to make up for that, her special safe home will be out there somewhere.

Lily, a Unknown old female Crossbreed available for adoption from Rushton Dog Rescue in Somerset

Lily

Somerset
SexFemale
AgeUnknown
BreedCrossbreed

Our lovely Lily is looking out for a perfect adoptive home, she does have some very specific requirements.Lily is a very sweet loving girl, she came to us after her owners no longer could keep her.. absolutely no fault of Lilly’s, she’s been her for quite some time now, this is due to her needing a lot of time to come to terms with the change and learning to trust us.Lily can be very nervous of new people, however she is absolutely fabulous with us here, she’s been to the vets and was spayed and she dealt with it all very well, we believe she has suffered some very harsh treatment before coming to us which makes her back off from new people.Lily is a really fun girl, she’s got lots of love to give and we can all see such a positive change in her. Lily needs a one owner adopter.. a woman would be her and ours preference. She won’t adapt into a busy household at all, she needs a home with very few visitors so she doesn’t have to back off and bark and get herself worried. We are confident if she can find that one special person she will settle and absolutely love the one on one attention. An adopter with experience with rescue dogs is must for our girl.We know Lily very well and will know the home when we see it, she’s does truly deserve her own home but if that was to never come we will always keep her safe with us… after chatting to Lily we all decided it was worth to try now to find her a home, she hasn’t been ready until now, is her home out there?Lily is good with other dogs, but she will defend her self if she feels she needs too, her best mate here is Eddie the Pom and the pair of them tear up the fields together and do all their craziness together! We do think she would be better being the only dog though. We can say so much about this girl, so please do contact us if you feel you have the specific environment for our lily, could you be her special person?
