About Saving and Rehoming Strays

Saving and Rehoming Strays is a small, volunteer-led rescue working closely with experienced rescuers in Romania and the UK to save and rehome vulnerable dogs. Operating as a kennel-free rescue, dogs live in social groups within specially designed zones that support their individual needs and help develop confidence and socialisation skills. The team relies heavily on volunteers for administration, fundraising, and daily care. With limited funding, the rescue depends on the generosity of supporters to continue its work rehabilitating and rehoming dogs in need.

Meet Bentley: The Gentle Boy with a Heart Full of Love! Location: Fostered in Ayr Say hello to Bentley, a handsome and lovable large/medium boy who is looking for his forever home. Bentley may be a big boy in size, but his heart is even bigger. Bentley’s journey has not been an easy one. Rescued as a puppy, he spent his early years in a Romanian vet clinic after being diagnosed with diabetes. Despite his condition, Bentley remained a sweet and affectionate pup, but sadly, no rescues offered to take him on due to the ongoing medical costs. That’s when we stepped in and brought him to the UK in June 2024, giving him the second chance he truly deserves. Since arriving in the UK, Bentley has flourished! With regular vet visits and medication, his diabetes is now stable. He is such a trooper and takes his daily medications and regular blood tests in stride. Bentley is THE most patient, gentle, and loving dog you’ll ever meet, and his calm, positive nature makes him a joy to be around. Bentley’s diabetes does require him to follow a strict diet to keep his glucose levels stable. His adoptive family will need to commit to maintaining this routine, but Bentley’s loving nature and wonderful personality make it all worthwhile. He gets along beautifully with other dogs and has also lived alongside cats in the vets, so he’d be happy in a multi-pet household. His favourite things include sunbathing, cuddling with his human friends, and being the centre of attention (he’s quite the charmer!). Bentley has won the hearts of everyone who meets him, and it's impossible not to smile when you see his sweet face. Despite his remarkable qualities, Bentley has had little interest from potential adopters. We believe this is largely due to his ongoing medical condition even though he rarely needs to see a vet now that his condition is well under control. As a charity, we are committed to continuing Bentley’s insulin medication costs for as long as necessary, but what he truly needs now is a family who will appreciate his kind spirit and give him the love he deserves. Please note that Bentley would thrive in an adult-only home where he can live safely with his strict diet and no temptation for food outside of his prescribed meals. If you think you can offer Bentley the loving home he deserves, please complete an adoption application at https://www.savingandrehomingstrays.org/dog-application-form. A home check and adoption donation will apply. We know Bentley has so much love to give, and with your help, he’ll find the perfect home where he can live the rest of his days surrounded by warmth, love, and cuddles. Thank you for considering giving this incredible boy the life he deserves!

Meet Iona – The Sweet, Shy Sister Fostered in Ayr, Scotland DOB: 28 December 2024 Vaccinated, pet passport ready, not yet spayed (too young) Iona’s story began in Romania, where she was rescued as a tiny puppy with her 2 sisters. Sadly, she spent her whole puppyhood in rescue kennels with not much space or adventure. Despite this tough start, Iona has grown into a gentle, friendly girl with so much love to give. She can be a little shy when she first meets new people, but she warms up quickly and soon becomes your number-one fan. Like her sisters, Iona has never lived in a home or walked on a lead, so she’ll need patient owners willing to teach her everything from scratch. She’ll thrive in an adult-only, rural home with a secure garden, where she can stretch her legs and build her confidence at her own pace. Sweet, beautiful, and playful — Iona just needs her chance to shine. All three sisters are gentle, sweet, and eager to love. They need dedicated homes willing to guide them through the basics of home life, but the reward will be three incredible companions with hearts as big as their paws. She hasn’t lived in a home or walked on a lead before, so her new family will need patience, commitment, and a good sense of humour. She’s a big puppy with even bigger energy, so an adult-only home with a large, secure garden is essential — ideally in a rural area where she can zoom to her heart’s content.Islay may be a big girl but she’s pure joy wrapped in fur and will reward her family with endless laughs and love. All three sisters are gentle, sweet, and eager to love. Date of Birth: 27 Sept 2023Found in the middle of no-where with a very badly infected leg 2x3 times the size it should be. Founds by a group of rescuers in Romania and had his leg amputated but they had no-where to put him so he ended up living in a van for three weeks and we believe in that time that his dressings were not changed so by the time he found his way to our partner rescue he again had a very bad infection. With our support we worked with local vets to treat the infection and complete X-rays to ensure all was ok as he still had a stump. Unfortunately it appears that there was still a sharp shard of bone so this required another operation to remove this and make Ronnie much more comfortable. He appears to have no ongoing issues now and loves to run around and play like he was never injured in the first place and shows no mobility issues. He is not yet lead trained so his family will need to have a secure garden (without steps for access) where they can work on this in a safe environment and be prepared to manouver him around and bring him back into the house but he is currently coming in and getting into his crate himself. He is a little shy and nervous but we believe that in a home with 1:1 focus and attention he will come along brilliantly. We are looking for a child free home. He can live with another young female dog. Also looking for a quiet home so one without too much comings and goings. He is really playful and runs around the garden and loves a good chase. Think you’re the one for Ronnie Apply hereA home check and adoption donation will apply. Let’s help Ronnie take his first steps into a happy, loving future. ️

Meet Skye – The Big, Bouncy Butterfly Fostered in Ayr, Scotland DOB: 28 December 2024 Vaccinated, pet passport ready, not yet spayed (too young) Skye was rescued in Romania as a tiny puppy with her 2 sisters and spent her whole puppyhood in rescue kennels with very little space to grow and play. Now, finally in Scotland, she’s making up for lost time with all the bounce and joy you’d expect from a giant puppy. She’s beautiful, energetic, and full of fun — with legs that don’t quite know what they’re doing yet (think “baby giraffe” energy!). Skye has never lived in a home or walked on a lead before, so she’ll need a patient family who’s ready to start from scratch. She’s friendly, gentle, and loves people, but being such a big pup with big puppy energy, she’ll need an adult-only home with a large, secure garden. Skye is not for the faint-hearted — but she is for the big-hearted. With time and training, she’ll be a loyal and loving best friend. All three sisters are gentle, sweet, and eager to love. Names: Tessa & ToscaD.O.B: 20 June 2018Gender: Female (neutered)Breed: Mixed breed(Please note Tessa & Tosca must live in a child free, pet free and dog free home and would ideally be rehomed together).Tessa and Tosca were in a shelter together for 3 years before coming under our care. During that time they were well cared for, but did not receive as much human attention as they perhaps needed. As a results they came to us as very timid pups and have both been adopted separately and come back to us as they were too timid apart to live in a home. We would therefore love to see these girls adopted together as they rely on each other for their confidence. At the rescue they enjoy playing, sleeping and cuddling. Tessa and Tosca have done a little lead training at the rescue, but we would need a family willing to put in the time and effort to gain their trust and work on their training slowly and with our support. We know it’s a big ask to find these two a home together, but we like to dream big for our dogs. If you have the time, patience and love for these girls please complete the 'pre-adoption application form' at the top of this page.(Please note a homecheck and adoption donation of £500 applies).

Travis, a 9 years old male German Shepherd available for adoption from Saving and Rehoming Strays in Scotland

Travis

Scotland
SexMale
Age9 years
BreedGerman Shepherd

Travis came from Romania into our rescue along with his 2 siblings in 2018. He has not yet been rehomed due to his disability but now we would love to find a very special home for this very special boy!Travis was born with issues in his hips and many vets in Romania diagnosed many different things, but it was only when he came into our care and saw our vets (and had more X-Rays) that we confirmed a diagnosis. Travis does not have any hip sockets – they never formed. So his hips do not stay in place and move about when he moves. He has never needed any pain relief and is a strong dog and copes very well and isn’t in any pain. Initially our vets said he should be PTS but after seeing him playing very happily, in no pain, and with the strength that he has in his front end, the vet agreed Travis has a great quality of life and deserves a chance to live it to the full!He loves running around the garden and playing, so needs a nice big garden and lots of space. We do need his home to have an understanding vet who is willing to work with us, if necessary, for any decisions on his future treatment and this would be part of our adoption contract. Travis is fabulous with other dogs, especially boy dogs. He loves to play out with the other boys here! Travis can be a bit funny with new people and can be a little barky. It doesn’t take him long to warm up and we think it’s a bit of territory guarding as he is fine when out and about. Travis walks fine on a lead and travels well in the car and has been well behaved at the groomers. Travis is looking for a cat free and child free home (older children only). Travis would be perfectly happy in a home where he never goes for a walk, as long as he has a big garden to run around and people to give him love and attention. He is a very sweet soul. If you this you can offer Travis the extra special home and family he needs, please complete the 'pre-adoption application form' at the top of this page.(Please note a homecheck and adoption donation of £500 applies).
