About Saving Saints Rescue

Saving Saints is dedicated to championing the welfare of large and giant breed dogs, ensuring their complex physical and emotional needs are properly understood and met. While involved in rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming, the charity places equal emphasis on prevention and education to promote responsible ownership. Recognising that big paw breeds have unique vulnerabilities despite their size, Saving Saints advocates for specialised care tailored to their distinct requirements. Their mission is to create long-lasting, informed placements that safeguard the wellbeing of these often misunderstood dogs.

Gorgeous Amelia has been waiting THREE YEARS to be chosen ! We can't quite understand why./Found abandoned as a pup on the mountains of Greece, Amelia came to the UK 4 years ago and lived happily in what she hoped was her forever home, until her family gave her up due to a new baby. She has now been in foster for nearly three years. She is loved, happy and has made huge strides but can't stay where she is forever and needs a family of her own. A shy girl at first, Amelia needs someone who will give her a bit of space to work things out but is SUPER affectionate when she trusts you. Her favourite trick is sitting on her bottom with paws up waiting for a treat. When she first arrived in foster, Amelia's anxiety made her dog-reactive but this clever girl has turned things around! Thanks to the commitment, patience and love, of her foster family, Amelia now happily walks past other dogs on a walk and could, with careful integrataion, learn to live with another dog. She would probably do best in an adults only home.Amelia looks super cute in a birthday hat but we don't want her to celebrate a THIRD year without a forever family! Please contact us if you are interested in helping Amelia .

Some dogs are Extra Special . Meet Angus, a gentle Shepherd whose heart is literally breaking as he waits and hopes for a family.3 year old Angus has a chronic heart condition (well managed by medication) which means the stress of life at the shelter could kill him. When we first met Angus last April he was super shy. Not reactive, just worried about our intentions. We asked his rescuer, Sofia to work with him, socialising and training him around people to prepare for domestic life.We needed to know if he could cope. Angus has amazed us with his progress. He used to flinch at the reach of a hand. Now he trusts and asks for rubs. He used to hide his head from treats. Now, he comes to you for tasty favours. He has been an absolute angel during his Veterinary visits, travels well in the car, loves dogs, cats and is not destructive.Angus still needs love, patience and lots of love to continue his progress. His medication costs are £47 a month. It’s a commitment we ask his adopter to be prepared to make for life. Meanwhile, we would commit to fundraising for the costs of his travel to the UK.We see huge potential in this sweet boy. His heart may be a little broken but it is full of love. We think he deserves the best shot at a long and happy life. Do you? Please contract us if you can help by adopting beautiful Angus.

Benji is officially a cuddle-monster who loves people, despite all the terrible hardship he has endured.Found abandoned and abused on the streets in Greece, Benji was in a horrific state when we were asked to support his rescue last year. We have been sponsoring him ever since and in that time he has gained weight and is now fit and well. He is negative for all blood borne diseases including Brucellosis. Benji is friendly with other dogs and doesn't bother with cats so could live in a multi pet home with careful introductions. He will however need feeding separately as he was starved. As you can see from his video, Benji adores people and loves nothing better than cuddles and affection! He can live with children aged 14 and above. He will need to be neutered when he reaches maturity (neutering will be a condition of his adoption). Watch his video - we challenge you not to smile! And please reach out to us about beautiful Benji (spelt with and without an “e”)

Cinnamon is simply stunning. Rescued from the streets, she came with very little history and was clearly unloved but still, she trusts people. In fact, she is so desperate for human affection and interaction, she cries out for it, often all day. She is extremely unhappy in the shelter and it is heartbreaking to watch. Please, please consider her for your family and offer her the love and care she so desperately seeks.

Cyclops

Beautiful boy Cyclops is named (because of his stunning half mask) after the giant-shepherd in Greek mythology.Unlike his mythological namesake, Cyclops is fully sighted and does not eat humans! He is simply a glorious boy who has suffered too much and deserves a forever home.Cyclops was found wandering the Greek roads in a dreadful state of neglect; underweight and suffering from heartworm. The wonderful man who saved him man nursed him back to health. His heartworm has now been successfully treated and Cyclops is a healthy, happy giant, looking for the love of a family. Around 3-4 years old , Cyclops is currently living 60 miles from Athens but is ready to travel to the UK and is very friendly to people and other dogs. As we don't have a child history, sadly we cannot home him with with children under 14 yrs.Cyclops would be perfectly suited to an outdoor lifestyle and needs large-breed experienced adopters.

4 year old Dili is extraordinary, in more ways than one. First, she is super friendly with everyone and everything despite all she has been through. Second, she is an escape artist who sadly has to be on a chain because she is always digging her way out of the shelter Third, and most remarkably, Dili has saved tens of lives by donating her blood to other shelter dogs when they need it post-surgery or injury. It is tragic that this selfless girl lives such a restricted life. Please return the love she so generously gives and offer her a home.

Hagrid, a Unknown old male Crossbreed available for adoption from Saving Saints Rescue in Lancashire

Hagrid

Lancashire

Magical, handsome and, at 36kg, actually not that big (!) Hagrid’s story is a sad tale.Adopted from Romania, Hagrid lived with his family - mum, dad and border collie brother - perfectly happily for four years…..until Hagrid’s mum became pregnant. Hagrid took his job of protecting mum and baby very seriously (he is after all a guardian breed!) warning people to keep away and correcting his border collie brother when he got too excited. All this landed Hagrid in trouble and despite (or perhaps because of) his devotion, Hagrid’s family decided they couldn’t keep him any more. *Our behaviourist, Julian visited Hagrid in the home and can tell you that although Hagrid got it all a bit wrong, his intentions were entirely honourable. With loving, firm guidance we believe Hagrid will make a fabulous family pet. Loving, devoted, ridiculously handsome, good with people housetrained, gentle on the lead, not destructive …..we think Hagrid deserves a chance to prove how magical he really is.Hagrid needs to be the only dog in the home. Families with children over 14yrs are welcome to apply.
