About Serbias Forgotten Paws

Serbia’s Forgotten Paws was founded in 2012 to support an overwhelmed shelter in Niš, Serbia, where dogs were living in overcrowded, poorly resourced conditions with little food, shelter or veterinary care. Established by a small group determined to make change, the charity set out to improve nutrition, provide insulated housing, fund veterinary treatment and employ workers to exercise and care for the dogs properly. A key aim has also been reducing shelter numbers through increased adoptions and enriching daily life with toys and stimulation. Through focused intervention and ongoing support, Serbia’s Forgotten Paws works to transform the lives of vulnerable shelter dogs.

Meet Cairo – A Loyal and Loving Companion Looking for a Quiet Home Cairo (formerly named Sreta) was born on the streets of Serbia alongside his brother. At around six months old, they were picked up by the local pound for neutering, and both later found homes in the UK. Sadly, Cairo has returned to our care through no fault of his own, and we’re now seeking the perfect forever home for this gentle, sensitive soul. ⸻ About Cairo • Breed/Size: Labrador-sized mixed breed • Age: Young adult • Health: Fit and healthy – no known medical issues • Temperament: Affectionate, obedient, loyal, but nervous and easily startled • Training: House-trained, travels well in the car, knows multiple commands, good lead walker with reliable recall ⸻ Cairo’s Personality Cairo is a sweet and intelligent boy who has made huge progress since his early days as a fearful street pup. He’s come a long way thanks to the dedication of his previous home, where he learned to trust, gained confidence, and developed into a well-mannered companion. He bonds quickly with people and thrives on connection — he’ll follow his person loyally and quietly enjoy their company. He’s obedient and eager to please, and he even enjoys road trips and campervan adventures! ⸻ What Cairo Needs Cairo needs a calm, adult-only home in a quiet area, ideally rural or semi-rural, with someone who understands nervous or sensitive dogs. While he’s social with other dogs, we believe he would benefit from being the only dog in the home, where he can get full attention and support. He can live with cats, but only with dog-savvy cats who are not reactive or fearful. If the cat is confident and calm, so is Cairo. But if the cat runs — he will chase. ⸻ ️ Important Considerations • Children: Cairo cannot live with children. He has previously nipped two children when startled. While no injuries occurred, this behavior must be taken seriously. • Visitors with Children: Can potentially be managed with baby gates and planning, but ideally, Cairo would thrive in a child-free home without visiting kids. • Overwhelm & Reactivity: Cairo can become overwhelmed and snappy in busy or stressful situations. However, he is muzzle trained, and handles wearing it well when needed. ⸻ The Ideal Home • Quiet and calm (preferably countryside) • No children (including no visiting children) • Dog-experienced owner who can read and respect boundaries • Either pet-free or with a confident, dog-savvy cat • Someone looking for a loyal companion who will enjoy relaxed walks, quiet time, and being by your side ⸻ Final Word Cairo is a beautiful, gentle soul who’s come so far and is ready to flourish in the right home. He doesn’t ask for much — just a peaceful environment, someone to love, and understanding of his quirks. In return, he’ll give unwavering loyalty, affection, and companionship. If you think you could be the safe haven Cairo deserves, please get in touch.

Meet Coko – A Special Dog Looking for a Very Special Home Coko originally came into our care in 2022 and was rehomed, but sadly, his placement did not work out. He is now back with us and looking for a very specific kind of home where he can thrive. The Right Home for Coko Coko needs a quiet, calm, and rural home — city or town life is too overwhelming for him. We’re seeking a female-only household, with no children (including visiting children) and no male visitors. This must be a dog-experienced home that can offer him structure, patience, and consistent management. His new home must be willing to muzzle train him and use tools like baby gates to manage visitors when absolutely necessary. He should also live in a home without cats. What Coko Loves • Affectionate and cuddly – loves snuggling on the sofa (he even asks permission first!) • Chilled at home – house-trained, doesn’t chew, and sleeps a lot • Playful and social with dogs – thrives in a home with other dogs • Active outdoors – enjoys long walks and doing zoomies in safe, quiet areas ️ What Coko Needs Support With • Aggression toward strangers and visitors – he will bark and has shown aggression (including attempted bites) when people enter the home or approach unexpectedly • Very reactive to noise and movement – barks at people walking past the house or unfamiliar sounds nearby • Unpredictable in public spaces – he may jump at and try to bite strangers if startled, especially in parks • Must be kept on a lead at all times in public and requires constant supervision • Very fearful of children and men, which can lead to aggressive behavior ⸻ Summary Coko is a sweet, loyal, and affectionate companion who just hasn’t found the right environment yet. He will flourish in the care of a calm, experienced woman in a quiet, rural setting — someone who understands that his anxieties need careful management and who’s willing to give him the time and training he needs. He’s a fantastic dog with other dogs, loves a peaceful home life, and has so much love to give — to the right person. ⸻ If you think you can offer Coko the understanding and stability he deserves, please get in touch. He’s waiting for someone special.
