About Springer Rescue Scotland

Springer Rescue Scotland (SRS) is a dedicated charitable organisation established in late 2008 to provide a safe haven and second chance for Springer Spaniels across Scotland. Founded by passionate breed enthusiasts, the charity gained official status in 2009 (Registered Scottish Charity No: SC040565) and is governed by a Board of Trustees and Management Committee led by Dr Charles Saunders. SRS was created to ensure that vulnerable Springers have access to specialist rescue and rehoming support tailored to the breed’s needs. Since rehoming its first dog in December 2008, the organisation has remained committed to improving the lives of Springer Spaniels throughout Scotland.

Bailey

Scotland
SexMale
Age9 years
BreedCocker Spaniel

Bailey is a lovely older boy who loves his humans, and food, he likes to be with you all the time. He loves his walks but can be a barky boy when meeting other dogs and humans. If people say hello to him then he is happy and stops barking. He did make friends with a Labrador in foster but had to bark at her when he first met her, then he decided she was ok and played with her. He also recently met another foster dog and once introduced they were quite happy together. He does pull on a short lead but walks well on a longer one. His recall is quite good unless his nose is on the ground.Loves a cuddle and to play with a ball, he’s a chatty boy and likes to keep you right especially when it is time for food.Energy Requirements: Bailey loves his walks but needs to build up to bigger walks. He likes to play ball and loves to potter in the garden.Training: Bailey pulls on the lead, and this needs to be worked on. He will sit and stay for short spells and gives a paw. Recall can be selective so needs reinforcing.Visiting the vet: Bailey was fine with the vet and happy to be examined but the vets need to take their time with him. He hated being left there for some tests and expressed his displeasure by barking. Bailey is on medication at the moment, but as he is quite food motivated he takes his medications well. He has had a haircut and can now see out from his fringe. Travelling: He loves being in the car and will either travel on the back seat or in the boot.Food: Bailey is on dry food with some wet mixed in. He loves his food but does need to lose some weight. Increasing his exercise will help.Sleep: Bailey sleeps in his bed next to the fosterers bed and will sleep all night, but he does snore!Behavioural issues: Bailey has separation anxiety and this needs to be worked on very slowly and not until he is fully settled in a home. He is also dog reactive when out on walks this also needs to be worked on, he does get on ok with other dogs once he knows them.Home needs: Bailey needs a quiet home with someone at home all of the time due to his separation anxiety. He would be best as an only dog lapping up all the attention. Ongoing support: Springer Rescue for Scotland will be available for any support with your new dog and can offer behavioural support in case of any problems that may arise on adopting a dog. Please do not express interest in Bailey if you are going on holiday in the next 4-6 weeks. If you have been home-checked or approved by email then please complete the interest form below. Erin And Mimi, a 10 years old female Cocker Spaniel available for adoption from Springer Rescue Scotland in Scotland

Springer Rescue Scotland

Erin And Mimi

Scotland
SexFemale
Age10 years
BreedCocker Spaniel

Both girls are house-trained and are used to full access to the home, including the furniture! They settle well in the house and enjoy exploring and playing in the garden. They are very inquisitive and follow you everywhere often getting under your feet, especially when in the kitchen. They are highly motivated by food and would benefit from slow feeder dog bowls. Initially they were put in their crate at family mealtimes but are now learning to give some space. Erin is gentle when taking treats, Mimi needs to be reminded to be gentle or else she snatches them from you. Erin is partial to cardboard or tissue to carry around and then tear up. She will also play fetch occasionally with a soft toy bringing it back to you to throw again. Mimi is not keen to play (she prefers snoozing and cuddles) but will carry around a soft toy or sock to show off and get attention. Both dogs are very affectionate, and Mimi especially likes to give doggy kisses. It is a work in progress to discourage this. Erin circles around the furniture or on the spot when excited. They are a bit anxious at first when being left alone but soon settle. They can be left alone for up to 4hrs then Erin needs to wee although this isn’t an issue during the night while sleeping. Getting Along with Others. They love meeting new people whether at home or on walks. They do jump up so this needs to be managed. They walk nicely alongside each other on the lead although they still manage to get tangled up. (It’s all part of the fun). They are good with other dogs. Erin is keen to meet and greet and is very gentle and calm in her approach while Mimi is a little nervous and tends to hang back initially but curiosity usually gets the better of her. They both show great interest in birds and squirrels and if not on the lead would likely chase them. They have only been off lead in the garden and secure field and when somewhere new they initially look for a way out. Recall is a work in progress. Sleep and Resting: The girls will sleep contentedly in the crate at night but usually sleep on the sofa or chair in the lounge. They will also sleep happily with you on the bed if\when allowed. Exercise and Travelling: Both girls travel well in the car and love going on adventures. Behavioural issues: There are no behavioural issues with this pair, although they have few boundaries and will need ongoing training. Visiting the vet: The girls have had their routine healthchecks and have had their vaccinations brought up to date. They behaved very well at the vet, especially when treats were offered. Mimi will be adopted with a contract to be spayed after her next season and once she is settled. Home needs: Erin and Mimi will need a family experienced with the breed, committed to ongoing training. A very secure garden would be ideal, and access to interesting walks, although they may chase wildlife. They are fine with other dogs but would chase cats. Children 10 years and over who are used to boisterous dogs would be fine. Ongoing support: Springer Rescue for Scotland will be available for any support with your new dog and can offer behavioural support in case of any problems that may arise on adopting a dog. Please do not express interest in Erin and Mimi if you are going on holiday in the next 6-8 weeks. They will be adopted as a pair. Ralph, a 4 years old male Cocker Spaniel available for adoption from Springer Rescue Scotland in Scotland

Springer Rescue Scotland

Ralph

Scotland
SexMale
Age4 years
BreedCocker Spaniel

Ralph is a gentle, playful, affectionate, and curious dog who chooses when to come over for interaction. He’s calm and has a soft mouth when hand-fed. He enjoys ‘brain’ and physical games, on-lead walks, zoomies, and relaxing on the sofa with his foster mum. He likes being stroked and often gives lick-kisses (though these aren’t encouraged!). Ralph barks at visitors and unfamiliar sounds but settles quickly. He may occasionally jump up at people indoors. Overall, he behaves well in other people’s homes, including those with dogs.Energy Requirements: Ralph loves his walks but was previously under-exercised. Walks have been gradually increased so every day he now enjoys short walks in the early morning, before his dinner, and the last toilet walk before the fosterers go to bed. His longer walk has been between midday and early afternoon. He walks well at heel in familiar areas but can be easily distracted in open spaces. If he’s had enough—especially in the dark and/or wet—he’ll stop and want to head home. He pulls on an extended lead, particularly when following a scent, but walks nicely on a shorter lead and stays close-by when his fosterer stops. He loves to chase birds and cats, shows mild interest in livestock, and can be redirected immediately he is becoming focused.Training: Ralph will need ongoing training in most areas. Although he will 'go to bed', he isn't consistent with ‘sit’, ‘come’, and ‘heel’. He will 'sit' for his food and will wait for a few moments for the release 'yes, yes'. Because of the recent weeks of rain, play and training has been mainly indoors.Visiting the vet: Ralph was anxious at the vet but, in a calm setting, allowed himself to be examined. He is gentle-mannered and enjoys playing with other dogs, though he can be a little over-enthusiastic at first and responds well if another dog tells him to back off. He is fit and well, and is due his next vaccinations in June. Ralph does not like being on the table at the vets or groomer. He gets upset and agitated.Travelling: At home, he prefers going out through the back door into the garden, especially if his lead is kept out of sight. He doesn’t like wearing a harness and would rather not wear a coat, though he’ll tolerate one if it’s put on just before going outside. Ralph travels well, enjoys visiting new places, and gets excited at the sound of car keys. He can stay in the car and at home for short periods.Food: Ralph is currently overweight and has a sensitive stomach, with an intolerance to chicken. He is fed AVA Optimum Health Sensitive Skin & Stomach dry kibble, with a vet-recommended total of 120g per day (60g at breakfast and 60g at 5pm). He eats quickly.Ralph enjoys vegetables (mostly cooked) and a little fruit, including carrots, peas, kale, broccoli, green beans, and raw apple and pear, which he has with his evening meal. He also like natural yoghurt and nut butters - both with no additives. He is food-motivated in training, and his fosterers use homemade vegetable-based dry biscuit treats as rewards.Sleep: Ralph is house-trained and sleeps in his crate on a bed with the door open. Although he initially wanted to sleep on the human bed, he quickly settled into his crate. He appears to have been allowed on the sofa and may nap there, but he gets off when asked. He’s also happy to sleep on the floor, a mat, or another dog bed. Behavioural issues: Ralph has occasionally counter-surfed and has taken items from the recycling bucket.Home needs: He enjoys company and would ideally like a home where his humans are around most of the time, preferably with a garden. As he still jumps up occasionally, a home with adults and older children would be most suitable. He hasn’t been around young children while in foster care. No cats. He would probably be best as the only dog in the home but may be fine with another dog if carefully introduced. He seems to have issues with golden retrievers. Ongoing support: Springer Rescue for Scotland will be available for any support with your new dog and can offer behavioural support in case of any problems that may arise on adopting a dog. Please do not express interest in Ralph if you are going on holiday in the next 4-6 weeks. If you have been home-checked or approved by email then please complete the interest form below. Remi, a 4 years old male Cocker Spaniel available for adoption from Springer Rescue Scotland in Scotland

Springer Rescue Scotland

Remi

Scotland
SexMale
Age4 years
BreedCocker Spaniel

Remi is a happy and confident young lad whose tail never stops wagging. He has a superb nature, very obedient and polite which is testimony to his previous life as a working gundog. He has been extremely well trained and cared for by his former owner. He is always eager to please especially if there is a tasty treat on offer. Remi is a very affectionate boy but can be a little over affectionate and excitable at times but a firm request to calm down is usually enough and he will back off. Albeit for a few minutes then its rinse and repeat. Remi is currently in foster with another two spaniels with no problems whatsoever. He is very respectful of them and gives them space when required. He waits patiently and politely for his call to dinner and eats with the other two dogs. Energy Requirements: Remi is a typical high energy cocker spaniel who loves to hunt and follow his nose down rabbit holes, into thorn bushes, up trees for squirrels. Anywhere that may hold furries. He can smell a pheasant on the moon. He has to be supervised in public parks that hold ducks and swans. Remi shows no interest in balls or retrieving and will ignore in favour of sniffing around. Remi needs a ton of physical and mental exercise in equal measures due to his working background and would not be suited to predominantly urban lead walking. His fosterer has him out for around 2/3 hours during the day and 30 minutes at night and if left to Remi, there would a 3am walk thrown in for good measure. Training: As stated earlier, Remi has had a high level of training as a working dog but also a well-balanced and polite domestic dog. He knows all the basic commands and is very receptive to them. His recall is excellent, and he will walk to heel on command in a busy environment with traffic and people. He can pull a little on a short lead, but this could be down to excitement as he is anticipating what lies ahead. Usually in the form of rabbits, squirrels and birds. Remi is much better on a long training line when left to follow his nose. It has also been used to pull him out of rabbit holes on occasion. Visiting the vet: Remi has no issues with a visit to the vet. He takes it all in his stride. He is up to date with his vaccinations and had a very good healthcheck.Travelling: Remi currently travels in the boot of a hatchback behind a guard. He can whine a little with excitement but soon settles. A guard is needed as he would be over and into your lap in no time. No problems getting him in and out before or after his outing. Food: Remi is fed a good quality medium breed kibble mixed with various wet tinned or homemade dog stew twice a day, 0700 and 1700. Treats on top if being a good boy. He isn't a fussy eater and hoovers up his food, probably due to the fact he has two other spaniels only too willing to help him nearby. Sleep: Remi sleeps next to his fosterers bed at night. He sleeps all night but can hear eyelids opening. Then everyone is awake. He can chance his paw and sneak up onto the bed and down under the duvet if allowed. A firm back to bed order is usually sufficient, if you can find it in your heart. Behavioural issues: No behavioural issues to report. Typical spaniel ailments of “not taking a telling” and “too much nonsense in his head” and can be treated with a heavy dose of patience and understanding. Home needs: Remi would benefit from an active home and someone with an understanding of a former gundogs instinctive needs due to his high prey drive. Would suit someone willing to give him daily outings such as forest trails and riverside walks to keep his mind active and engaged. Older children would be fine. He would be fine as an only dog or with another friendly dog. He would probably chase cats. Ongoing support: Springer Rescue for Scotland will be available for any support with your new dog and can offer behavioural support in case of any problems that may arise on adopting a dog. Please do not express interest in Remi if you are going on holiday in the next 4-6 weeks. If you have been home-checked or approved by email then please complete the interest form below. Theo, a 10 months old male Cocker Spaniel available for adoption from Springer Rescue Scotland in Scotland

Springer Rescue Scotland

Theo

Scotland
SexMale
Age10 months
BreedCocker Spaniel

Theo has lots of energy and will need daily exercise commensurate with his age. He has met some other dogs recently and was fine with them, although he will sometimes bark at them. Training: He is keen to please, and very responsive to commands so training is fun. He will pull on the lead, given the chance, so is using a figure of 8. His recall in an enclosed area is good. He is food motivated, so this helps with training. Travelling: Fine in the car, occasionally whimpers, but happy and excited. Will need to be secured if ni the boot or back seat.Visiting the vet: Theo has had his routine healthcheck and is fit and healthy. He is in good condition and has been well cared for. Food: Theo currently is being fed a good quality kibble. He needs a slow feeder to slow his eating otherwise he wolfs it down. Sleep: Theo is getting used to his crate and will sleep in it with the door closed.Behavioural issues: Theo was very “mouthy” when he came into foster, but his fosterer has been working on this, and with a consistent approach he is getting much better. He will counter surf given the chance. No resource guarding, no separation anxiety. He will steal socks and has been known to swallow them!Home needs: Theo needs an active home, with plenty of opportunities for daily, interesting and varied walks. He also enjoys pottering in the garden but it must be secure. He is currently living with two female Springers and would be fine with another friendly dog once introduced. Older children used to dogs would be fine. Untested with cats but likely to chase. He will need experienced owners who will commit to continuing his training. Ongoing support: Springer Rescue for Scotland will be available for any support with your new dog and can offer behavioural support in case of any problems that may arise on adopting a dog Please do not express interest in Theo if you are going on holiday in the next 6-8 weeks.
