About Springer Rescue Scotland

Springer Rescue Scotland (SRS) is a dedicated charitable organisation established in late 2008 to provide a safe haven and second chance for Springer Spaniels across Scotland. Founded by passionate breed enthusiasts, the charity gained official status in 2009 (Registered Scottish Charity No: SC040565) and is governed by a Board of Trustees and Management Committee led by Dr Charles Saunders. SRS was created to ensure that vulnerable Springers have access to specialist rescue and rehoming support tailored to the breed’s needs. Since rehoming its first dog in December 2008, the organisation has remained committed to improving the lives of Springer Spaniels throughout Scotland.

Bragi

SexMale
Age2 years
BreedCavalier King Charles Spaniel

he is a happy, boisterous and busy dog. He is very friendly and is described as a loveable rascal. He is used to a very rural location and can be challenging around traffic and busy spaces. He is used to an active life. He gets excited around other dogs and loves to play. He is very biddable, needs further training and socialisation, with lots of potential, and will make a great addition to any family. He is well behaved in the house and rarely barks.Energy Requirements: Needs regular daily walks, preferably rural, forestry or beach walks, away from traffic.Training: Bragi needs consistent training. He pulls on the lead at first but settles down. His recall is a work in progress. He is keen to learn, but can be a bit stubbornVisiting the vet: Bragi has had his routine healthcheck and is fit and well. He is up to date with his vaccinations.Travelling: Bragi travels well in the car.Food: Bragi loves his food but can grumble if another dog comes too close while he is eating. He would be best separated for meals if he is living with another dog/s. Sleep: Bragi prefers to sleep on the floor, currently in the kitchen.Behavioural issues: His only issue is guarding of food. He is happy to share toys and has no other issues. He is not ball obsessed.Home needs: Bragi needs an active but quiet, rural or semi-rural home. His new owners will need to be patient with him and consistent with his training. Older children would be fine, he has a tendency to jump up in people’s faces, so no very young children. He would be best with another friendly dog to play with. He has been used to having access to a large garden. Ongoing support: Springer Rescue for Scotland will be available for any support with your new dog and can offer behavioural support in case of any problems that may arise on adopting a dog. Donald, a 5 years old male Cavalier King Charles Spaniel available for adoption from Springer Rescue Scotland in Scotland

Donald

Scotland
SexMale
Age5 years
BreedCavalier King Charles Spaniel

Donald is a beautiful Sprocker. His coat is almost black, but he has dark brown through it. Very smart and responds to commands very well. He is fantastic in the house. Will wait to be asked if allowed on sofa. He is an affectionate dog and likes to sleep on top of you. He also likes his bed and will happily sleep there too. He loves his walks and is very excited to go out. He does not like other dogs. Reactive to other dogs up close. He is fine at a distance or across a road. He is a friendly loyal dog. He is a country dog, excellent at fetching things and running are favourite pastimes and great for training. Overall, a wonderful dog for the right family.Energy Requirements: He is an energetic boy. He has a morning walk for about 30 mins and then a longer afternoon walk and a late evening walk. He is reasonably good on the lead, but pulls a little. Secure dog fields are great for him, and he enjoys his visits. He is happy to be left for short periods in the home.Training: He is excellent with his training and responds well. He already had a great foundation. He will wait to be told for food and also waits before coming in house before owner. He walks really well to heel off lead when practised in a secure field. Recall is good in a secure field. He does however like to hunt and chase rabbits. With his reactivity to dogs, he is best off lead only in secure dog fields or safe areas. He is ball obsessed, but has been enjoying the agility courses at the secure dog fields instead of ball time.Visiting the vet: He was quite nervous at the vet’s, however let the vet check him over. No aggressive behaviour at the vets, just nervous.Travelling: At the moment he travels on the back seat of the car clipped in. He travels well, whinges a little as he is excited. Usually quiet on way home after his walk.Food: He currently eats twice a day. He eats his food no problem. He currently eats Harrington Natural Choice.Sleep: He sleeps downstairs in the family room. No issues or barking. He has a final evening walk at about 11 am and will sleep happily till 7am. Behavioural issues: Donald is reactive to other dogs. When he sees another dog while on lead, he looks like he is excited to see them. He doesn’t bark or growl, but when closer he will be more aggressive. Overall, it is manageable for someone who is a confident dog owner. Awareness of surroundings and communication with other dog owners makes walks easier. He is excellent in the home. No behavioural issues at all. No aggression ever to humans.Home needs: Donald will need an active home, with someone very experienced with the breed, and around most of the time who can continue his training and offer him interesting but quiet walking opportunities. Someone who is confident to handle him if issues arise when walking. This involves distracting him and avoiding other dogs as much as possible. He would benefit from a secure garden for play in and for training between walks. He would be best as the only dog in the home, although he has lived with other dogs and if introduced slowly this might be an option. Ongoing support: Springer Rescue for Scotland will be available for any support with your new dog and can offer behavioural support in case of any problems that may arise on adopting a dog. Please do not express interest in Donald if you are going on holiday in the next 4-6 weeks. If you have been home-checked or approved by email then please complete the interest form below. If you haven’t applied yet but think I’m your perfect companion, please complete an application on the website and then submit the form below. Gigha

Scotland
SexFemale
Age8 years
BreedCocker Spaniel

SRS Gigha is a friendly wee dog; she loves being with the family and cuddling up on the sofa. She is a busy dog who likes to check where you are in case she’s missing out on fun. She will lie down and chill for a while. She loves being out in the garden lying in the sun and having a wee wander about. SRS Gigha has little recall - that or she only returns when it suits her. She loves fetching a ball in the secure dog park and when she’s had enough, she takes her ball and lies down.If SRS Gigha had her way she’d sleep on the bed beside her humans - she did this in her previous home - she currently sleeps in a cage near her human’s room and settles all night there with her teddy.Home Life: SRS Gigha is house trained though prefers using the garden without the other dogs in her foster home being out with her. She’ll play happily with the other dogs it’s just she likes privacy for toileting. She pulls a little on her lead though when told to heel she does. She loves a walk and sniffing out interesting smells. In a secure area she will respond to her name and come back (when she wants to). She enjoys a good walk each day and can now walk up to 4 miles. She’s equally happy playing in the garden and having a shorter walk. She travels well in the car, on the back seat clipped on or in the boot secured. SRS Gigha is in foster with two other dogs and has had no issues settling with them. She pulls on her lead if she sees a cat while out walking. She’s been fine with friends’ children who are primary school age and previously was used to grandchildren visiting. When visitors come to her foster home, she welcomed them with lots of voicing about then settles for cuddles.Visiting the vet: Gigha has had her routine health check while in foster and is fit and well. She was a little nervous but behaved very well. Gigha will be adopted with a contract to be spayed once she has settled into her new home.Behavioural issues: No issues, just needs a bit of training to improve her recall.Home needs: SRS Gigha is a lovely friendly dog who would fit into a home easily. She just loves cuddles and walks. She would be fine with another friendly dog. She would be equally happy on her own as the centre of attention. She would be fine with dog-savvy children aged 6 years +.A home with someone around most of the time would be ideal, she does like company and regular walks. She would like a garden to potter about and play in.Ongoing support: Springer Rescue for Scotland will be available for any support with your new dog and can offer behavioural support in case of any problems that may arise on adopting a dog. Please do not express interest in Gigha if you are going on holiday in the next 6-8 weeks. If you have been home-checked or approved by email then please complete the interest form below. If you haven’t applied yet but think I’m your perfect companion, please complete an application on the website and then submit the form below. He forms strong bonds with his people and is happiest right by your side – whether that’s following you around the house or curling up for a cuddle on the sofa (personal space doesn’t exist in Gunner’s world!).He’s also a clever boy who is already picking up basic commands and is very motivated by food and toys, making further training both fun and rewarding. When he gets excited, he can be a little jumpy (think coiled spring), this is something that has come on leaps and bounds and will continue to improve with guidance and consistency.Home Life: Gunner is house trained, although he can still have the occasional “excited pee/ puppy sprinkles” (easy to manage once you know his triggers). He settles well into a routine and is happy to sleep in his crate at night, currently in the bedroom. Given the chance, he would very happily upgrade himself to the bed!He can be left alone for short periods and is comfortable in his crate. Gunner currently enjoys three walks a day and has lots of energy, though due to his past he is best suited to shorter, more frequent walks rather than long distances. On the lead, he can be enthusiastic and may pull as he’s keen to explore, so he will benefit from ongoing, gentle training. He hasn’t been walked off lead yet, so this will need to be introduced gradually over time. He travels well in the car, although he can be a little nervous, and may also be slightly unsure at the vet initially but settles quickly.Getting Along With Others: Gunner is great with people and enjoys meeting new faces. He’s generally good with other dogs, although he can be a little nervous around larger dogs and a bit bouncy when greeting, so calm introductions will help him build confidence. He is currently living with a dog-savvy cat and shows curiosity more than anything else. He will sniff and engage, but respects boundaries when corrected.Gunner is good with older children, however due to his excitable and jumpy nature, he would not be suited to a home with younger children.Health Issues: Gunner has had a difficult start in life, he came into foster in June 2025, at the age of 7 months. He has since undergone four surgeries for a leg condition (HIF). Despite this, he has shown incredible resilience and now has full mobility – he truly is a little fighter with a huge heart. Due to his condition, frequent shorter walks are recommended, rather than long, arduous hill climbs.Home Needs: He would thrive in a calm, loving home with a patient owner who can continue his training and help build his confidence. A home with minimal or no stairs would be ideal, along with older children only, and preferably the only dog.Gunner is a very special boy who will give so much love to the right home. If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate companion with a big personality and an inspiring story, Gunner could be your perfect match.Ongoing support: Springer Rescue for Scotland will be available for any support with your new dog and can offer behavioural support in case of any problems that may arise on adopting a dog. Please do not express interest in Gunner if you are going on holiday in the next 4-6 weeks. If you have been home-checked or approved by email then please complete the interest form below.
