About USPCA

Founded in 1836 as the Belfast SPCA, the Ulster Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (USPCA) is Northern Ireland’s oldest animal welfare charity, established to prevent cruelty and relieve animal suffering. Its early work included installing water troughs for working horses and successfully lobbying for animal protection laws to be extended to Ireland. As its operations expanded across the region, the organisation became known as the Ulster SPCA, reflecting its wider impact. Today, the USPCA continues to campaign, rescue and advocate for stronger protections to make Northern Ireland a safer place for animals.

SexMale
Age5 years
BreedJack Russell Terrier

Bruce is a handsome boy who was admitted into our care through our social rehoming scheme, he is now ready to find himself his new home! Bruce is a happy, friendly chap who thrives on human company, he has an energetic and adventurous personality, who loves spending time out on his daily walks, using his nose to explore the world around him! Once he is settled in his environment and once he gets to know you, he really loves people and loves being the centre of attention, he enjoys spending time with his human friends and just loves to hop onto your lap, where he sits and watches the world go by. Bruce is not used to being left alone for long, so would be best suited to a family who are around most of the time initially to help him settle into the home as he is happiest when he is included in all the comings and goings of daily life! Bruce has two luxating patellas that are a low grade and do not require surgery. This condition does not hold him back in his day-to-day life, and he is able to stay active and happy. To help keep his joints healthy, he will need to continue taking joint supplements, stay at a healthy lean weight, and avoid overdoing exercise. Bruce could live with children over the age of 12 years who have a sensible approach and experience with dogs. He could possibly live with another well-suited small dog upon successful meeting at our centre. It is unknown how he would react around cats.

Teddy, a 2 years old male Pomeranian available for adoption from USPCA in Northern Ireland

Teddy

Northern Ireland
SexMale
Age2 years
BreedPomeranian

Teddy was admitted into our care through social rehoming and is now ready to find his new home! Teddy is a sweet and sensitive boy who likes to take things at his own pace as he can find the big world a bit scary sometimes but he is hoping his new human best friend will understand and help him grow in confidence at a pace that feels safe and reassuring. He can find busy and lively environments a little worrying, so quiet, peaceful walks and simple routines will help him thrive. Teddy would prefer a quieter home and while he can be initially nervous, with a bit of time, patience and kindness, his sweet personality soon shines as he does enjoy hopping onto your lap for lots of fuss once he gets to know you. Teddy could live with one other similar-sized, calm and friendly dog who could gently guide him and help build his confidence, but he would also be equally happy as the only pet in the home, as he does enjoy soaking up all the love and being the centre of attention! Teddy would prefer not live with young children, but could share a home with older teenagers who understand that he may need his own space at times. Due to his nervous nature, Teddy will need a home with a secure outdoor garden. He is still a bit unsure about the outside world and can be nervous when on the lead. Once settled into his home, Teddy will need his family to help him build his confidence slowly and gradually with going outside and lead walking. He will also need help with toilet training. Teddy would be best suited to owners who have prior experience with nervous small-breed dogs.
