About Wallace Kennels

Wallace Kennels is a small, family-run dog rescue that has operated for over 45 years, originally founded as a boarding kennels and cattery by Vera Robinson MBE. Now run by her son Mark and daughter-in-law Dee, the kennels serve as the stray dog pound for Brentwood and Chelmsford while also rehabilitating and rehoming unwanted and abandoned dogs. With space for up to 60 dogs, the team focuses on providing individual care and finding each dog a suitable forever home, operating largely under a non-destruct policy. As a non-profit organisation, Wallace Kennels relies entirely on public donations and community support to continue its vital work.

Bentley, a 4 years old male French Bulldog available for adoption from Wallace Kennels in Essex

Wallace Kennels

Bentley

Essex
SexMale
Age4 years
BreedFrench Bulldog

French Bulldog, 4 years old, neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and he was a proper little shit so needs an owner used to this type of dog.Write up UPDATED:This boy has come along so much from the badly behaved dog that arrived with us back in September 2025. Don't get me wrong he can still be a little shit but he seems to be our little shit now and has accepted the staff and most of the volunteers as his people.Bentley is seeking a very experienced handler who will not take any of his nonsense. He has failed in several homes mainly because the advice given wasn't followed. 12 hours in a new home is not what this boy needs, it will take weeks for him to adjust and bond with his new person but once he does he has so much genuine love and affection to give - we see it here daily from him.He goes out on a daily basis with all the different dog walkers - that was an impossible job at the beginning. He now wants fuss and affection and lets you in to his "space". Don't get me wrong he does still have the odd day where he reverts back to demon dog but then he remembers that being good = rewards and good things.Bentley is definitely not for a novice dog owner but if you have had previous experience with dogs that like to get their own way and occasional temper tantrums and are up for a challenge then Bentley may be the dog for you.Personally I would say he would be better off as the only pet in the home as you don't want his bad habits rubbing off and also he could not be homed with another male dog as he is a bit hit and miss with them - seems to prefer the pretty girls He will need a home where he is going to get the love and attention he needs (in time) as well as the right amount of exercise, training and stimulation. He has obviously previously been shut away for hours in a small space which has caused his guarding of his space so maybe not go to a home where he will be left for long periods of time and no crates.Definitely no children under 16 years old, older or none preferred.Cats and other small furries are unknown and untested.A secure garden with adequate height fencing is a must. When Bentley first came in to us:-Bentley has guarding issues with his "space" be it a crate, a kennel, his room basically anywhere that he is shut in or where he feels enclosed. Approaching that space he behaves like a rabid beast on crack but open the door, let him out and you are able to carry on the day as if nothing has happened so for a dog that has found himself stuck in the kennel system it is very hard. There is a very nice dog inside the little monster that we see most mornings. He goes out quite happily with the dog walkers without issue. He loves his toys especially stuffed ones that he can rip apart, the quicker the better. He loves his food and treats and takes them nicely. If you feel you are up for a challenge then this is the ideal dog for you. He will need a home where he is going to get the love and attention he needs as well as the right amount of exercise and stimulation. He has obviously previously been shut away for hours in a small space which has caused this hatred so maybe not go to a home where he will be left for long periods of time.

Hudson

Essex
SexMale
Age2 years
BreedGerman Shepherd

2 year old Dutch Herder (GSD type of dog) very strong boy - neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped and up to date with fleaing and worming.HUDSON has been with us since November 2025 and May bank holiday Monday was the first time he had any visitors but sadly he was not the right dog for them so we continue in hope that this really lovely boy will find his forever home soon.He is a really nice lad, super people friendly and with the right people will be fantastic addition to the home.He is fully house trained. He does know and understand some commands and is quite a clever boy.Hudson is very strong but many of our female volunteers are able to take him out without issue as he does stop pulling after a few minutes in to his walk.We have no background information on him so not sure why he never got claimed.Although strong he does walk nicely on the lead and he travels well.Hudson will need to go to a home as the only dog for now and work on a friend for him at a later date as he is very hit and miss with and around other dogs.Cats and small furries are unknown and untested but this is very likely to be a no.Any children in the home need to be 6+ and used to being around bigger dogs.A secure garden with minimum of 6ft fencing is required.

Rocky, a 2 years old male Jack Russell Terrier available for adoption from Wallace Kennels in Essex

Wallace Kennels

Rocky

Essex
SexMale
Age2 years
BreedJack Russell Terrier

Jack Russell - neutered, vaccinated and microchipped - 2 years old at the end of May.Someone used to this breed is going to love Rocky. He likes to be on the go, needs plenty of exercise so a love of walking and being outdoors will suit Rocky down to the ground. When bored he can be vocal so will need things to keep him occupied and obviously the right amount of daily exercise will help.Super friendly boy but can initially be on the shy side but soon warms to you.He does like to chase a cat and other small furries so maybe best not have those in the home.Has not shown any problems with other or around other dogs but does still like to hump them so definitely a spayed bitch or a home on his home.We would ideally like to see Rocky go to a home where he is not left all day - he is fine for a few hours.A secure garden with adequate height fencing is a must.
