About Wallace Kennels

Wallace Kennels is a small, family-run dog rescue that has operated for over 45 years, originally founded as a boarding kennels and cattery by Vera Robinson MBE. Now run by her son Mark and daughter-in-law Dee, the kennels serve as the stray dog pound for Brentwood and Chelmsford while also rehabilitating and rehoming unwanted and abandoned dogs. With space for up to 60 dogs, the team focuses on providing individual care and finding each dog a suitable forever home, operating largely under a non-destruct policy. As a non-profit organisation, Wallace Kennels relies entirely on public donations and community support to continue its vital work.

Staff/Cane Corso x Lab according to AI? 2 years old, neutered, vaccinated and microchipped - has also had awful large dangly rear dew claws removed.Super friendly boy although still slightly nervous of all the noise and chaos here. Came in with Fred , they are very attached but squabble for hierarchy so can be homed separately.Cats and other small furries are unknown and untested.Travels well so has previously been in a vehicle and can walk quite nicely on a lead and harness. We think Barney will be fine with calmer children from 6+Barney does ideally need a home that is willing to put some work in with him regarding commands etc and that will be repaid with the enormous amount of love he has to give, so affectionate. We would ideally like to see Barney go to a home where he is not going to be left for hours on end.A very secure garden with adequate height fencing is a must.

Bentley, a 4 years old male French Bulldog available for adoption from Wallace Kennels in Essex

French Bulldog, 4 years old, neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and he was a proper little shit so needs an owner used to this type of dog.Write up UPDATED:This boy has come along so much from the badly behaved dog that arrived with us 2 months ago. He goes out on a daily basis with all the different dog walkers - that was an impossible job at the beginning. He now wants fuss and affection and lets you in to his "space". Don't get me wrong he does still have the odd day where he reverts back to demon dog but then he remembers that being good = rewards and good things.Bentley is definitely not for a novice dog owner but if you have had previous experience with dogs that like to get their own way and occasional temper tantrums and are up for a challenge then Bentley may be the dog for you.Personally I would say he would be better off as the only pet in the home as you don't want his bad habits rubbing off and also he could not be homed with another male dog as he is a bit hit and miss with them - seems to prefer the pretty girls He will need a home where he is going to get the love and attention he needs as well as the right amount of exercise, training and stimulation. He has obviously previously been shut away for hours in a small space which has caused his guarding of his space so maybe not go to a home where he will be left for long periods of time.Definitely no children under 8 years old, older or none preferred.Cats and other small furries are unknown and untested. When Bentley first came in to us:-Bentley has guarding issues with his "space" be it a crate, a kennel, his room basically anywhere that he is shut in or where he feels enclosed. Approaching that space he behaves like a rabid beast on crack but open the door, let him out and you are able to carry on the day as if nothing has happened so for a dog that has found himself stuck in the kennel system it is very hard. There is a very nice dog inside the little monster that we see most mornings. He goes out quite happily with the dog walkers without issue. He loves his toys especially stuffed ones that he can rip apart, the quicker the better. He loves his food and treats and takes them nicely. If you feel you are up for a challenge then this is the ideal dog for you. He will need a home where he is going to get the love and attention he needs as well as the right amount of exercise and stimulation. He has obviously previously been shut away for hours in a small space which has caused this hatred so maybe not go to a home where he will be left for long periods of time.Definitely no children under 8 years old, older or none preferred.Cats and other small furries are unknown and untested.A secure garden with minimum of 6ft fencing is required.

Lurcher - approx 2 years old, neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and up to date with flea and worming.Super friendly boy. Loves his zoomies, trots along beautifully on his walks, travels well and on the whole for a sighthound is a good boy as they can be rather mischievous.Quite a social boy who gets along with other sighthounds and pretty much takes no notice of the other dogs in kennels.May need a bit of a house training refresher but pretty clean in his kennel.Cats and other small furries are unknown and untested.Any children in the home need to be 5-6+We would ideally like to see Damiano go to someone who is not out of the home all day or maybe one that has another sighthound for companionship.A secure garden with adequate height fencing is a must.

Fred, a 2 years old male Airedale Terrier X German Shepherd available for adoption from Wallace Kennels in Essex

Fred

Essex
SexMale
Age2 years
BreedAiredale Terrier X German Shepherd

According to AI he is Airedale GSD cross with a bit of border terrier thrown in. He is on the larger side of medium and weighs 34.9kg. He has been neutered as he had a retained testicle, is approx 2 years old, microchipped and vaccinations started. Flea'd and wormed. He has regular squabbles with his stray friend (brother Barney) so they are now separated and we feel Fred will benefit from being homed to a family by himself.Whatever breed Fred is it doesn't really matter he is gorgeous and has a wonderful temperament although still very wary and can be shy but once he has got to know you and trusts you he is simply the best.He will definitely need a house training refresher as not getting the hang of being clean in kennels.Getting the hang of walking on the lead.Travels well. Playful. He really does just need to trust someone and not feel abandoned. We have no idea what he is like with cats or other small furries and will not place him with children under 7 years old.We would love to see Fred go to a home where he is going to receive all the love and training he needs to flourish, he has the basics.A secure garden with adequate height fencing is a must.

Lurcher - 2 years old, neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped and up to date with flea and worming. His name is very appropriate as he is an absolute star in every way. He has shown no issues with or around other dogs but cats and other small furries are doubtful although untested. Clean in his kennel.Any children in the home need to be 5+We would ideally like to see Star go to a home where he is not going to be left for long periods of time as he does get up to mischief if left to his devices home alone. Zak, a 2 years old male Jack Russell Terrier X Chihuahua available for adoption from Wallace Kennels in Essex

Wallace Kennels

Zak

Essex
SexMale
Age2 years
BreedJack Russell Terrier X Chihuahua

Jack Chi, fully vaccinated, neutered, microchipped and around 3 1/2 years old.We are told by a previous adoptee that:"Zak has a good appetite and lots of energy, probably needing longer walks than we could provide. He is very good getting in and out of the car. He has socialised with our daughters 2 dogs and those met on walks. He does find visitors to the house a problem and barks a lot but calms after a little while. When we got him he wanted to sleep on our bed which we have managed to stop and he now sleeps on blankets on the floor.Unfortunately it seems that my wife is allergic to him and suffers from breathlessness when he sleeps in our room. We have tried to solve by me sleeping in a spare room with him on the floor. We have tried shutting him in another room at night but, as yet, without success. He follows me everywhere and likes to lie on the settee with his chin on my leg"Zak is a very loving and affectionate little dog and once he has bonded with his new human he will be a tremendous companion.A secure garden with adequate height fencing is a must.We would ideally like to see Zak go to a home where he is not going to be left for a huge amount of time on his own.Older children only. Cats unknown and untested.
