About West Wales Poundies

West Wales Poundies was founded in 2007 after its founder stepped in to help two Staffordshire Bull Terrier puppies facing euthanasia in a local pound. What began as an urgent effort to save a small number of at-risk dogs quickly grew into a dedicated rescue focused on helping unclaimed pound dogs across West Wales. Working with a small but committed team, the charity has since rescued and rehomed hundreds of dogs that would otherwise have been put to sleep. West Wales Poundies continues to focus on giving vulnerable dogs a second chance at life through rescue, rehabilitation, and responsible rehoming.

Athena, a 4 years old female Foxhound available for adoption from West Wales Poundies in Wales

West Wales Poundies

Athena

Wales
SexFemale
Age4 years
BreedFoxhound

It’s time to find our lovely Welsh Foxhound Athena a home. For those who don’t know her story here it is… We were made aware of Athena a few months ago by a very kind local farmer. She had frequently seen a hound straying on nearby farmland for over 4 years but had never been able to get close to her let alone catch her. Then they discovered she’d given birth to 9 beautiful little ones in their barn and that’s when they contacted us for help. Eventually after some coaxing she was finally trapped and her and her little family were soon on their way to us. As you can imagine after fending for herself for years and now with the added stress of feeding a family she did look somewhat relieved to finally be safe and for a change had someone looking after her. Well her little ones are now 16 weeks and are slowly flying the nest so it’s time she herself found a family to call her own She has come such a long way since she arrived, thin, scared and exhausted. Now she looks and acts like a different dog, she’s now happy to greet you, loves her time out in the field and adores human interaction. She is still nervous with strangers but that’s to be expected. So Athena is looking for an understanding, quiet home. She won’t have ever lived in a house so that will be a new experience for her. She is excellent with other dogs and would probably benefit from living with a calm resident dog, one she can follow and learn from. She wouldn’t suit young children as she can be nervous but would be fine with teenagers and above. She is a big dog, around 35kg just so people get an idea! She is now walking on a lead but isn’t used to busy, built up areas. Being a hound she’ll never be able to go off lead, although she sticks to her humans here like glue, we do need to be mindful of her breed!! Athena is a quiet, placid girl, she is happy spending time with the people she knows lapping up the attention. Please bear in mind she has been living feral for 4-5 years so she will need time to adjust into home life. But I’m sure given a chance Athena will make a lovely companion for someone

Bambi is a very pretty 3y.o cross breed who arrived with us as an unclaimed stray. This adorable girl loves everyone, she is definitely a ā€˜people’ dog and whether she knows you or not you’ll have the same enthusiastic welcome!! Bambi is a large Bullbreed cross, she can be strong to start her walk but soon settles. She isn’t reactive on the lead but isn’t great with other dogs so will need to be an only dog and also no cats. She can live with children over 10y.o. Bambi’s favourite thing is to snuggle up on the sofa with a human, she much prefers doing this to going for a walk!!! People really are her everything Bambi travels well in the car and she enjoys going for a jolly! She enjoys playing ball in the field but refuses to bring it back! All in all Bambi is looking for that special someone to share her life with, she has so much love to give and just needs that second chance.

Barney, a 2 years old male Pocket Bully available for adoption from West Wales Poundies in Wales

West Wales Poundies

Barney

Wales
SexMale
Age2 years
BreedPocket Bully

Please meet the very handsome Barney who arrived with us as an unclaimed stray. This 2y.o Pocket Bullie is a great fun all rounder!! He’s a proper little character whose favourite thing in the world to do is to chase the hose pipe (which isn’t ideal when we’re trying to clean the kennels!) Barney can be a little strong on the lead at the start of his walk but soon settles. He is happy to walk past dogs but will react to dogs that bark at him. He would be better suited as an only dog and no cats. He’d suit children over 10y.o as he is a solid boy and would knock little ones over. He travels well in the car and enjoys the journey. Barney is a very friendly boy who loves life and everyone in it. He’d suit a fairy active home as he loves his daily walks.

Betty, a 3 years old female Crossbreed available for adoption from West Wales Poundies in Wales

West Wales Poundies

Betty

Wales
SexFemale
Age3 years
BreedCrossbreed

Betty is a very pretty 3y.o Lab cross who arrived with us a few weeks ago. She came with a large group of dogs who had been removed from their owner. Betty is dog friendly on and off lead, she shares a kennel with Pip the Collie cross and Lad the Collie, she can be rehomed with either of these, on her own or with a resident dog. She is not cat tested. Betty is probably the most confident of the group but she is a little shy around strangers. She does however quickly warm to people given time, when she does know you she is the most loving, affectionate girl. Betty is better walking on a lead than the other two, She's not the most confident but she does walk!! Betty is looking for that special someone to share her life with, she can be rehomed with children over 10y.o and would suit a quiet home. She is a relatively laid back girl who loves her food (that's the Lab in her!) and is looking for someone to give her a second chance

Biscuit, a 5 years old male Lurcher available for adoption from West Wales Poundies in Wales

West Wales Poundies

Biscuit

Wales
SexMale
Age5 years
BreedLurcher

Biscuit is another that arrived with us as an unclaimed stray. This beautiful Lurcher is 5y.o, he mixes well with dogs once carefully introduced but can be a bit dominant. He can't be rehomed with cats or small furries. Biscuit would suit a relatively active home and is suitable to go with older children. Biscuit walks well on the lead, enjoys his sprint in the enclosed field followed by a snooze!! As you can see from the photos one of his favourite pastimes is swimming, he absolutely loves the water!!! Biscuit does have some quirks, maybe that's why he has waited over 3 years for a home He does like to be left alone to eat. We will discuss any issues he has with anyone seriously considering offering him a home. Biscuit has the most loving nature and he likes nothing more than having one to one time with our volunteers. He does need an understanding home but will make someone a great companion

Bruce, a 6 years old male Lakeland Terrier available for adoption from West Wales Poundies in Wales

West Wales Poundies

Bruce

Wales
SexMale
Age6 years
BreedLakeland Terrier

Introducing this little pocket rocket aka Bruce who arrived at WWP as an unclaimed stray. Bruce is a 6y.o Patterdale who still thinks he’s a puppy!! He’s full of beans and has that mischievous glint in his eye!! Bruce is a busy little dog and would benefit from an active home. He’s been a regular in the pound and was constantly found straying. We don’t think he was regularly exercised in his last home, and that’s the one thing he loves. Bruce isn’t really interested in other dogs, he’s very independent, he is happy to greet them but likes to do his own thing. So he can either be rehomed as an only dog or with a calm dog. He will chase cats. He can be rehomed with children over 8y.o. Trying to take nice photos of Bruce was a task in itself, he doesn’t have time for standing still and posing he’d rather be doing ā€˜things’!!! He’s a lovable chap who will make someone a faithful companion, running buddy, or even a partner in crime Bruce walks well on the lead, travels well in the car and until he arrived at kennels had always lived in a house.

Bruno is dog friendly on and off lead, he mixes well with everyone and loves to play! He likes to play ball but refuses to bring it back! He can be a little strong on the lead but soon settles once he gets going. He travels well in the car and settles quickly. He would suit a family home and can be rehomed with children over 8y.o. West Wales Poundies

Enzo

Wales
SexMale
Age2 years
BreedCrossbreed

Please meet this very handsome 18 month old Rottie cross who arrived with us, along with his sister Molly, as unclaimed strays. Enzo is everything you’d expect in a young Rottie, energetic, intelligent and full of fun! He has an adorable nature and greets everyone with enthusiasm! He does sometimes get a little carried away and can mouth when over excited, this is due to having no boundaries set or basic training when he was younger. He is however quick and eager to learn and is now so much better than he was when he first arrived. He is going to make an amazing companion to the right person. Due to his size he needs to be rehomed with teenagers and above. Enzo is dog friendly, mixing well with dogs on and off lead. He can be a little strong on the lead which has improved greatly with the use of a halti. He has not met cats. He travels well in the car and settles nicely for the journey. Enzo is a very smart boy who desperately wants to please. Rotties thrive on routine and love to learn and please. He just needs a committed human to show him the way so he can reach his full potential.

Lad, a 8 years old male Collie available for adoption from West Wales Poundies in Wales

West Wales Poundies

Lad

Wales
SexMale
Age8 years
BreedCollie

Lad is a 8y.o Collie who arrived with us along with Betty and Pip after a large group of dogs were removed from their owner. Lad is very shut down in kennels and is in dire need of a foster or forever home. Unlike his 2 kennel mates Pip and Betty, he never ventures out of his bedroom and is always curled up in his bed in the corner. He is so confused and sad it's heartbreaking to see. During a visit to the vet we discovered he does have a heart murmur but he's on no medication and other than that he is healthy. Lad is comfortable with people going and sitting with him, but is too shy to look for attention. He doesn't walk on a lead and quite likes to be carried from a to b!! We have no idea what has happened to him in his past but he is very obviously traumatised. He hasn't got an ounce of malice in him and is quite happy to be handled. He will need a quiet patient person to gain his trust and I'm sure then we will see a much happier Lad. He MUST be rehomed with a resident dog and he has not met cats. He will need a quiet home with no young children. Can you offer Lad an understanding, comfortable home, have you got experience with nervous/timid dogs? If so you are exactly what Lad needs in his life right now
