About Wythall Animal Sanctuary

Wythall Animal Sanctuary is an independent registered charity that has been rescuing and rehoming animals for over 50 years, operating as a non-destruction sanctuary where animals stay for as long as needed—or for life if necessary. Founded in 1963 by Dave and Kath Davies and granted charitable status in 1968, the sanctuary continues their mission of sheltering and rehoming animals in need. Today, it primarily cares for dogs, cats, rabbits and guinea pigs, alongside resident ponies, with dedicated rehoming buildings, paddocks and exercise fields across its three-acre site. Funded entirely by donations and supported by boarding facilities on site, the sanctuary remains committed to giving every animal a safe haven and a second chance.

I came to the Sanctuary after I was found as a stray locally. I was initially very upset coming here and found it really hard being in a kennel which meant I wasn’t very friendly to my carer at first but only because I was so scared! After my carers spent lots of time over a few weeks sitting with me and building my trust I finally came round and realised my carers are actually great!! I now jump all over them and demand attention 24/7!!! Although I can still be a bit wary of new people at times, as long as one of my trusted humans are with me it doesnt take me long to make new friends at all now! (Especially if they give me bum and tummy rubs!)

Hi I’m Crumpet! You may recognise me as I was returned to the Sanctuary after being adopted due to a change in my behaviour. I have been off the website for a little bit while my carers did some more training with me, but I am back and ready to find my forever home! <3My previous adopter said I did really well in the home and for the most part was a really good boy! I gave everyone lots of love and enjoyed being in a home (especially with a comfy bed to chill on!). Unfortunately, after an sudden incident in the home, I had to come back to the Sanctuary. It is not clear why, but one night I suddenly became reactive to one of the people in the home and I was stressed and restless. My adopters handled the situation well but both they and the Sanctuary felt it was best for me to come back and be re-assessed as this behaviour was very out of character for me.I originally came to the Sanctuary as a stray so there is no know history on me before I came to the Sanctuary but I am a sweet, loving and very loyal boy who just wants lots of love (and lots of toys!)

I am a very sweet and loving boy and I enjoy my cuddles or bringing you a soft toy. My life has not always been easy, and due to my past and my poor health making me feel so vulnerable I have sometimes not made the best choices. My carers know what a loving boy I am, and want to find me my forever home with someone to love me for who I am, as well as respecting the boundaries I have.I was returned October 2022 to the sanctuary after being adopted a few years before. My adopters really loved me but struggled to cope with my behaviour in the home, which my carers believe was caused by the pain I was in from my poorly ears. When I came back to the sanctuary my carers worked hard to try and help my ears but in the end I needed surgery to relieve me from the pain it was causing me. Since then, my ears have been doing much better and with that my behaviour improved as I’m not in pain anymore.Last year I was adopted and I was in a home but it wasn’t meant to be and I had to come back after just over a week. My carers think I just felt vulnerable again being in a new home with many changes. I need a lot of understanding & care so I don’t need to feel so vulnerable. I need you to look after me, and make sure I’m not being put in situations I find conflicting or worrying.Thankfully I really love being here at the Sanctuary and I have a place here for as long as I need and I know they will always be there to support me.

I came into the sanctuary when my owners left me with a nice family that looked after me while they were on holiday, but sadly my owners never came back for me…I have been rehomed a few times since I cam to the Sanctuary but have been returned every time for different reasons. Therefore my next home must be the perfect one so I don’t have to worry about being left again.I form really strong loving relationships with the people I make friends with but because I have had a few homes now I can struggle making friends intially as I am frustrated and don’t trust you until you take the time to show me that I can. My carers say for someone willing to take the chance on me I would be their once in a lifetime dogs as I’m such an intelligent, sweet and funny boy!
