Hello… I’m Shani. I’m an older girl, and I don’t have many wishes left — just one big one: to finally matter to someone. I was abandoned on Christmas Day. While people were celebrating, I was left alone on a cold, empty beach with storms raging around me. The rain was hitting my face, the wind was cutting through my coat, and there was no food or clean water anywhere. I kept looking around, thinking someone would come back for me… but nobody did. I don’t think I would have survived much longer, but one of the kind humans from the rescue spotted me. She could have easily walked past… but she didn’t. She saved me. I’ll never forget that moment. My body tells the truth of the life I had before. I’ve clearly had many litters. My teeth are trimmed all the way down into my gums — they hurt, and they show just how little care I ever received.
