Meet Takis Takis is around 4 years old and a true survivor. He was rescued during the devastating wildfires last July, but his story started long before that. Most likely abandoned as a puppy, Takis grew up alone in the mountains, learning to survive the only way he could. Food was never guaranteed — he relied on a small local tavern that only opened on weekends, and the occasional kindness of visitors staying in nearby holiday homes. It was a fragile existence, but it was all he knew. Then the fires came. The villages were destroyed, the land was left burnt and empty… and somehow, Takis survived. But survival wasn’t enough anymore. The tavern stopped opening, the visitors stopped coming, and suddenly there was nothing left for him. Takis was so shy he wouldn’t let anyone come closer than a metre. It took patience, planning, and four weeks of effort — but eventually, we managed to trap him and bring him to safety.
