Meet Criss Cross, a big-hearted, sensitive lad who has come to us from a breeder and is learning to find his confidence in the world. Criss Cross arrived as a worried soul, needing extra patience, understanding, and gentle care. He had very little formal handling in his past, and early on could be grumbly or anxious when unsure. He required slow, careful introductions to people, places, and experiences while he started to understand his new surroundings.Since arriving, Criss Cross has made wonderful progress. While he may still be a little shy when meeting someone new, once he feels comfortable he actively seeks attention and cuddles, often trying to return kisses with his big, loving heart. He is still learning his manners and, as a large lad, can sometimes use his size to barge past when excited, but he responds well to clear, calm guidance.Criss Cross is gaining confidence with his harness training and has already enjoyed walks beyond the rescue, comfortably managing a good distance down the road. He can be a little unsure if people are walking behind him, but one of his adorable quirks is that he finds reassurance if you turn and face him while walking backwards allowing him to let his guard down. Gentle encouragement, slow introductions, and quiet, safe garden sniffing adventures all help him to continue building his trust. He will need a calm, adult-only home with experienced adopters who can provide patience, structure, and reassurance as he continues to grow. He would prefer to be the only dog in the home.. Criss Cross also appreciates having a quiet space at mealtimes, which helps him feel safe and secure. He will need a home without cats as he is overly interested in them.Criss Cross is currently being monitored by our vets for a weepy eye and receiving treatment to help him feel more comfortable.Criss Cross is a truly gorgeous, sweet, and gentle giant with so much love to give. With time, patience, and the right understanding home, he will flourish into the loyal, devoted companion he is meant to be.

Crumble is a worried lady who came into our care from a breeder, searching for a fresh start. When she first arrived, she was very worried and unsure of the world around her, but with time and patience she has begun to settle beautifully. Crumble is now much less fearful of us humans and has really started to come out of her shell, choosing to engage more with staff members and showing curiosity about her surroundings. While she can still be sensitive and appreciates having her space respected, it’s clear that Crumble simply needed time to feel safe. With gentle reassurance and plenty of TLC, her true personality is beginning to shine through. She is a gentle soul who responds best to calm, kind interactions and slow introductions. She would be happiest and thrive best as the only dog in the home, where se can enjoy all the attention, settle more easily into a routine, and build a strong bond with her new family. As she has never lived in a home environment before, she will need patient support with house training and learning everyday routines. She will need a home without cats as she is overly interested. We are looking for an experienced, adult-only home where Crumble can continue to build her confidence at her own pace. A quiet household with understanding adopters who are happy to let her take things slowly will allow her to truly flourish. With the right people, time, and lots of love, Crumble will make a wonderfully rewarding companion.Crumble has a previous bite wound inside her ear, which is currently being treated and our vets have noted that she has a Grade 2 luxating patella. This doesn't cause her any issues and may improve with gentle exercise as she builds muscle.

Cuba

BreedChow Chow

Cuba is a very sensitive and shy boy who is still finding the world quite overwhelming, but who is making lovely progress as his confidence slowly grows. Cuba arrived with very little life experience and can be easily worried by new situations, so he needs a calm, gentle approach and plenty of time to build trust. As he gets to know people, Cuba is becoming increasingly sociable. He may need a couple of meetings to feel comfortable, but once he trusts you, he will happily approach with his tail wagging and enjoy quiet, gentle fuss. He particularly loves relaxing in his bed with trusted company nearby and finds calm strokes very reassuring, often drifting off to sleep while being gently fussed. As his confidence grows, his playful side is beginning to shine. He adores playing with toys, cuddling, giving kisses, and will happily bounce around like a lunatic when he’s feeling safe and excited.Cuba has never lived in a home before, so everything will be new to him. He will need experienced, adult-only adopters who understand nervous dogs and are happy to let him settle at his own pace. Patient guidance will be needed as he learns all about home life, including house training and walking on a harness and lead. He has recently started harness training and is beginning to enjoy it, but this will still need to be continued slowly and positively, starting with gentle practice in the garden. Once out and about, Cuba enjoys taking in the world at his own pace and loves sniffing everything in sight on his walks.Cuba would prefer to be the only dog in the home, so his adopters will need to be around enough to keep him company and provide reassurance as he settles. He will need a home without cats or small furries as he does have a prey drive.Cuba gets fed separately from his kennel friends as he can be a little protective of his food from other dogs while eating. That said, he is fine taking treats when around other dogs, but would need to be fed separately at meal times or when having long lasting treats and chews around any canine friends. He is quite fond of using his voice and enjoys a good grumble rather than barking, which is very much part of his character. Beneath his worried exterior, Cuba is a sweet, gentle boy who has already formed strong bonds with familiar staff and is learning that not all people are bad.Cuba will need a calm and understanding home where his boundaries are respected and he can have his own safe space. With kindness, patience, and the right support, he has the potential to continue blossoming into a truly rewarding companion.Cuba is currently being treated for bilateral conjunctivitis and has also had a bilateral entropion repair.

She has been in foster with us since September. She is believed to be around 3 years old the vets think and is showing to be a lovely natured dog with no reactivity of any sort to other dogs of either sex.Her coat was badly matted, she had skin problems from neglect, needed a dental and she has entropian in both eyes! She came into season and we had to wait for surgery but yesterday finally the day came ... On better examination under GA it was clear that she needed both her upper and lower lids correcting with an amount of loose skin removed as well. She was under anaesthetic for 3 hours and has come through with flying colours thankfully. She is eating and bright and in a few days will be more comfortable than she has ever been. This is another example of BAD BREEDING and dogs being dumped with very costly medical needs ...

Chow Chow Golden 5 Years (approx) Ref: DC030 Kyta is a 5yearold Chow Chow who has been with a wonderful foster family and is now ready to find her forever family. Here is what her foster family have said. She is a beautiful, intelligent and independent girl looking for a home that understands her unique personality. Once she’s settled, she is affectionate, calm and quietly playful, with a lovely gentle nature when her boundaries are respected. She is fully house trained, sleeps well through the night, and can be left alone for short periods. Kyta walks nicely on the lead, although she can pull when excited, and due to her prey drive and recall still being a work in progress, she will need to be kept on lead whilst out and about. She enjoys one to two walks a day (and prefers a liein over early mornings!). Kyta is a clever girl who already knows commands like sit and loves enrichment activities such as Kongs, puzzles and scent work. She’s very food motivated and enjoys learning new things. At home, she enjoys her own space just as much as spending time with you. You’ll often find her relaxing in the garden, watching the world go by, or curled up somewhere cosy indoors. She travels well in the car and is confident around traffic and everyday noises. Kyta could live with another calm dog with the right introductions and would be best suited to a home without cats. Due to her nature, she could live with children of secondary school age who understand how to give her space and approach calmly. She is good with visitors when introductions are done gently and at her pace, and she has no history of resource guarding or destructive behaviour. Kyta does have a highmaintenance coat that will require regular grooming, especially during moulting season, along with routine ear and eye care. Her new family will need to be committed to keeping her comfortable and healthy. Could you be the home Kyta is waiting for? Luna Chow, a 2 years old female Chow Chow available for adoption from High Hopes Dog Rescue in West Midlands

Luna Chow

We’ve posted Luna Chow thousands of times…. We don’t feel she needs an introduction…. You all know the Diva! But she does need a forever home! Luna Chow is dog number 11!Luna was returned to us 2 years ago. Since that day, no one has applied or even asked to meet her.Luna arrived at High Hopes with her pups — who quickly found homes. She settled beautifully in foster, then was adopted. Sadly, after 9 months she was returned. We never share this part to place blame — only to give the full picture of Luna’s story. In her first home she showed signs of anxiety, and a trainer’s report suggested she may struggle with touch. When she came back to us, we took things slow. Hands-off, letting her come to us when ready. And slowly, trust blossomed. Her breakthrough moment? A hairbrush!Over 4–5 months we saw Luna transform — thanks to patience, trust. Rehabilitation isn’t linear, but Luna reminds us why we always put dogs’ needs first. There’s no denying it… Luna is stunning. She is the kind of dog that everyone wants to stop and say hello too. From the very beginning, we’ve worked carefully with Luna to make sure she always felt safe, respected, and able to trust in her own time. Our volunteers have been incredible at listening to our instructions, letting Luna come to them when she was ready, waiting for her “yes” before giving affection, and always giving her the choice to step away. With this advice, she’s built a circle of friends who adore her and she adores them just as much (honestly, she’s more popular than we are )Here’s the magic about Luna….once she’s chosen you as part of her pack, it’s forever. She doesn’t forget her people, and she loves with her whole heart. New friends still need to earn her trust, but she’s learned that most bring snacks—which makes her a little quicker to warm upShe’s happy spending time 1:1, but equally content in a group, as long as her friendship initiation has been followed. Becoming part of Luna’s pack is something special and it’s truly worth every second it takes to get there. After her assessment period post return, learning to trust and making lots of new friends, Luna was ready to show us who she really was underneath that floof!!!She’s such a funny, cheeky girl who’s very exuberant in nature. She loves to sit on your lap and has no idea of personal space (ironic given the need for her own!!)! She’s very loving and lives for belly rubs. She is a playful girl but her play style is body barging and wrestling!! After a busy day playing, Luna settles down for a nap, we have heard her snoring(!) and really enjoys her beauty sleep! She’s one of the happiest dogs we have ever had, she likes chasing her tail, digging and running in the secure field with great animation!! She is quite strong willed, cheeky and the word no seems to make her even more cheeky.….and this is the Luna Chow we know and adore! The floofiest, cheekiest, silliest dog…. If you want a furry sass pants…. Look no further than Chow!!We feel Luna may be better suited to living as an only dog or with a confident laid back dog who matches her play style.Luna can be strong on the lead, she’s always excited to go out, explore and keen to get going. As much as she loves her walks she is also quite lazy and tires herself out quickly!!!She loves playing with toys, zooming around with her foster friends and getting as muddy as possible, followed by tummy rubs! She is a funny girl and constantly makes us laugh with her silly moments.Luna has masses of cuddles and love to give, she just wants someone to give it to who can respect and listen to her boundaries. She now has lots of friends to do that with but she has to share them and would love her very own humans who are happy to be loved by her. A chow/ large guarding breed experienced home would best suit Luna.Luna is 4 years old now and based in foster in Worcestershire and will need a few meetings for potential adopters to pass her initiation1170 days…. That’s how long Luna has waited for her life to start. The first day we saw her.

Obi, a 8 months old male Chow Chow available for adoption from Cardiff Dogs Home in Wales

Cardiff Dogs Home

Obi

Wales
SexMale
Age8 months
BreedChow Chow

Obi is approximately 8 months old and arrived in our care as a “fake stray”, meaning he was sadly dumped by his previous owners. We believe Obi is a Chongqing dog, which is a very rare breed to see in rescue. Because of this, we are committed to finding him the perfect forever home that truly understands his needs.Obi is young, playful, and full of energy. As Obi is young he will use mouth when playing, leading to grabbing clothes and snatching. While he is not typically a cuddly breed, he does enjoy a fuss on his own terms and has a naturally independent nature.Training classes are essential, along with consistent training throughout his life. We already have a specific type of home in mind, and potential adopters will be expected to thoroughly research the breed to ensure they can meet his needs to a high standard.Obi will not be suitable for first time dog owners. This breed does not cope well in cold environments, so this must be carefully considered.Obi deserves the very best life after being let down by humans. As a breed, Chongqing dogs are naturally protective and can be wary of strangers. They require structured handling and ongoing socialisation. He will need plenty of daily exercise and mental stimulation. He has a strong prey drive and would suit an active home that enjoys activities such as hiking or jogging. He is not suited to a sedentary lifestyle.Potential adopters should also be aware that skin allergies can occur in this breed, so financial stability is important to ensure any medical needs can be met.Committed, knowledgeable homes only.Poking his tounge outCardiff Dogs HomeWestpoint Industrial EstatePenarth RoadCardiffCF11 8JQWe work in partnership with:Support us by making a donation or by donating food and other items. All donations are very gratefully received.© Cardiff Dogs Home 2024 - Website designed by Cardiff Council Web Team
