BreedLakeland Terrier

Alfie is a very sweet boy who has come to us from a home after his owner could no longer care for him. We are told that he has always lived as an only dog, although he did have a brief trial in a home with another dog. During that time, it became clear that Alfie can become very attached to his people and may guard them from other dogs, as he prefers to keep his chosen humans to himself. Because of this, he will be looking for a home where he can be the only dog and enjoy all the love and attention without having to share. He does enjoy meeting other dogs out on walks and can socialise well outside the home, but he prefers not to share his living space or people.Alfie is a working breed type, so he would be best suited to adopters with previous experience of similar breeds who understand his needs and can provide him with plenty of both mental and physical stimulation. He loves being out and about and thrives when he has structure and activities to focus on.He is currently working on a training plan to help with his car reactivity, which is going really well. Each day he is taken out 3–4 times for short training sessions. He is given a few minutes to run around and burn off energy, and then we focus on structured training using “Alfie sit,” “watch,” followed by treat rewards and praise. These sessions last around 10 minutes each time, and he is proving to be a very intelligent boy who is learning quickly and responding really well to the routine.Alfie walks well on the lead overall, though he can still pull at times and may react to passing cars, so this will need ongoing, consistent training in his new home. Once he knows you, he absolutely loves fuss and attention and forms strong, loyal bonds with his people. He would benefit from adopters who have plenty of time to spend with him and who are happy to continue building his confidence and reinforcing positive behaviours. We would consider homing him with older, dog-savvy teenagers who will allow him to settle at his own pace and respect his space when needed. We are told that he can sometimes bark when left alone, so his adopters will need to gradually build up any time he is left as he settles into his new home.As he has previously lived in a home, we believe he is house trained, although he may need some reminders during his settling-in period.Alfie will need a secure garden with fencing of at least 6ft to ensure he is kept safe.Alfie will make a wonderful addition to a loving home that is willing to give him plenty of attention and continue working with him on his training and behaviours. He has arrived to us with a docked tail.

Benjamin, a 4 years old male Lakeland Terrier available for adoption from Dogs Trust in Greater London

Benjamin

Greater London

Age4 years
BreedLakeland Terrier

Are you right for Benjamin?Benjamin is on the search for his forever home! Benji is looking for a home with adopters who can take him on nice countryside walks (in low dog-populated areas or during quieter times) and allow him to sniff and explore on his adventures. He would love adopters who have experience with active breeds and/or Patterdales; however, this isn't essential. Benji would like his adopters to be open, happy to learn, work with our team and take on their advice on how they can give him the best home life. He loves going on long sniffy walks where he can explore new places and get his nose to the ground, so he is looking for active adopters who love an adventure. Benjamin can find meeting other dogs overstimulating, but he has been able to walk parallel to some other dogs, and he would like his adopters to continue his socialisation with non-interactive friends when out on his walks. Benji will need to be the only pet in the home. He has been positively muzzle-trained and wears one out on his walks. His adopters will need to continue this in his forever home. He would love a private garden with secure fencing to enjoy with his family. Benjamin does not have a history of living with children; we think he would be best suited to live with children 12+ who can give him space when he needs it. Benjamin can find being left worrying, so would be best suited to a family who are around for most of the day to begin with, before building up his leaving hours once settled. He can have visitors once he has had time to adjust to living in his new home!Is Benjamin right for you?Beautiful Benjamin (Benji) is a happy boy with so much love to give. Benji is a loving boy who adores his people. He is keen to go and explore his surroundings, followed by a good cuddle in his kennel after. He loves his toys (especially a game of raggy!) Other than playing a game of raggy, he enjoys chasing after tennis balls when thrown. He is a very clever boy who loves brain games and training. Benji loves greeting his handlers with a waggy tail and smile. Benjamin likes to go on his adventures with his nose to the ground, sniffing out the best smells. He is a huge softie. Benji adores playing with toys, both with his handlers and independently. If you're looking for a dog who is up for adventures, cuddly, full of personality, and will bring a smile to your face, Benji is your pawfect match!

Bruce, a 6 years old male Lakeland Terrier available for adoption from West Wales Poundies in Wales

West Wales Poundies

Bruce

Wales
SexMale
Age6 years
BreedLakeland Terrier

Introducing this little pocket rocket aka Bruce who arrived at WWP as an unclaimed stray. Bruce is a 6y.o Patterdale who still thinks he’s a puppy!! He’s full of beans and has that mischievous glint in his eye!! Bruce is a busy little dog and would benefit from an active home. He’s been a regular in the pound and was constantly found straying. We don’t think he was regularly exercised in his last home, and that’s the one thing he loves. Bruce isn’t really interested in other dogs, he’s very independent, he is happy to greet them but likes to do his own thing. So he can either be rehomed as an only dog or with a calm dog. He will chase cats. He can be rehomed with children over 8y.o. Trying to take nice photos of Bruce was a task in itself, he doesn’t have time for standing still and posing he’d rather be doing ‘things’!!! He’s a lovable chap who will make someone a faithful companion, running buddy, or even a partner in crime Bruce walks well on the lead, travels well in the car and until he arrived at kennels had always lived in a house.

Gill, a 5 years old male Lakeland Terrier available for adoption from Pads Dog Rescue in Scotland

Pads Dog Rescue

Gill

Scotland
SexMale
Age5 years
BreedLakeland Terrier

Gill is an ex-working Patterdale, she’s lived in a kennel all her life. She arrived with us after she and a new dog in the home fought so badly that the other dog succumbed to her injuries and died. Gill’s family were too distraught to look at her and so brought her to us to rehome.Gill is great with people and the family tell us ok with male dogs but she’s always been unpredictable with females. Although she is ok with kids, the likelihood of kids leaving doors and gates open does mean that she might not be suited to some families / homes. Gill will chase cats and small furry creatures and will need careful management by an experienced dog owner.

BreedLakeland Terrier

Lulu is a very beautiful small 15mth old terrier cross, likely a mix or JRT/Patterdale/Border. She is looking for a committed terrier savvy home that will continue her socialisation. A very lively bouncy young girl with bags of energy. A very playful girl, absolutely loves her toys. She walks nicely on lead and enjoys being outdoors. She doesn't go off lead unless in a secure area. She needs an active outdoorsy home that will give her a good amount of exercise and enrichment both. A secure garden with 6ft fencing. This girl has springs in her feet. She is looking for a terrier experienced home that understands and appreciates terrier traits. She cannot live with children. She passes dogs on walks without issue. She cannot live with females but could potentially live with an older larger breed male. Resident dogs must be neutered and prepared to do several meets. Equally she would be fine as an only dog , she is a loving and affectionate girl that enjoys human fuss and attention. She loves nothing more than being on the sofa at night with her people for belly rubs. She is a chewer so if left home alone she needs to be in a safe area or crated. Currently sleeps in her crate at night. At present thriving on a balanced raw diet . More toy orientated than she is for treats. Love to play and interact with her humans. A game with a ball or tug toy are the way to her heart. House training is just about there. She travels without issue. Lulu likes company and wouldn't suit a home where she was left for long periods.

Marmite, a 2 years old male Lakeland Terrier available for adoption from Foal Farm in Kent

Marmite

SexMale
Age2 years
BreedLakeland Terrier

Marmite came to Foal Farm in May 2025 on his first birthday. He was in need of a rescue space after he had been found straying, he was very skinny and had a laceration on his neck which required immediate surgery. We had later found out that Marmite had been in a home since he was a pup and had been returned to the breeder a few weeks prior to him being found as a stray, it is unclear as to how and why he ended up in this position. His original home was not able to meet his needs and some behavioural issues came to surface. He was reactive to traffic and when feeling frustrated this led to him redirecting onto his owner. He was also very protective of his owner and he had shown aggression to their partner on various occassions. They felt they were unable to meet the needs of his breed and he needed more than they could offer, as he is a working dog and he needs a job.Lakeland Terriers are not for the faint hearted and Marmite is typical to his breed and their traits. The behavioural issues that Marmite presented in the home have also come to surface whilst being at Foal Farm. Due to the busy environment here, he has found it stressful and challenging which has caused him to feel very frustrated. It has taken a lot of time and paitence but we have now seen a huge improvement in Marmite’s behaviour. We are very proud of the progress he has made. We are now able to enjoy calm walks around cars and other distractions, he even took a trip to Costa where he was perfectly behaved. He can be reactive towards some dogs but overall he is good around them. As Marmite is a complex character he would be best suited as being the only dog in the home. However, if an experienced home with an existing dog was a possibility, we would not rule this out for him.As Marmite has previously bitten, he needs an adult only home. We are seeking adopters who have experience with the breed ideally. Whilst he is very friendly with people and is an affectionate lad, he requires boundaries and structure. Ongoing training will be required as well as a home that can give him enough exercise. He would benefit from an additional activity such as canicross or scent work. Marmite is very much a project dog and he has shown he has so much potential.

Phillip is a typical high energy patterdale, but he appears to have had some basic training in the past, he likes to please and knows basic commands, he will seek you out for cuddles and fuss unlike some super busy terriers, and enjoys human attention ️ Phillip would benefit from an owner who is used to the breed or driven terriers as will need his needs met physically and mentally, he is older than his hyper puppy years, but still has energy to burn and can be drivey in his behaviour – he does not love kennel life and we are keen to get him settled back into a home Phillip has met lots of dogs OK, but struggles in close confinement with them so will do better as an only dog, he will need sensible intros with dogs out and about as can be alert around other dogs but does calm under the right guidance Phillip is a really sweet boy and loves everyone he meets, he will do well in a terrier savvy home with lots of walks and even more love Could you be the proud new parents of Phillip? Willow

Scotland

Age10 years
BreedLakeland Terrier

Willow was rehomed last year and has to be returned due to her determination to escape the garden and chase livestock and wildlife around the home. Willow may be 10 years old but her legs are like springs and her eyes and ears are as sharp as a 1 year old!Willow is a dream in the house, welcomes all human visitors, loves a sunbathe and a cuddle, and getting under the duvet at night. Unfortunately, she is the polar opposite outside of the home with a high prey drive. Willow needs someone who has no garden or a very secure one, she has managed to climb over a 6ft fence here. Although she is ok with kids, the likelihood of kids leaving doors and gates open does mean that she might not be suited to some families / homes. Willow will chase cats and small furry creatures. She has lived with another male dog but would need careful introduction to any new friends.
