These boys deserve a home as wonderful as their big hearts. They are an absolute joy to have around and would definitely suit a home where their humans are nearby. They can be left alone for short periods and are more than happy enjoying each other’s company with no issues at all. They are fully housetrained, although they do require a little encouragement to go out if it’s raining! They are early risers and absolutely LOVE their food — they will definitely let you know when it’s mealtime. Aside from that, they are happy, gentle boys who love nothing more than sofa snuggles. Their favourite thing is being on the bed with their humans and they will very happily take the offer of being under the covers if allowed. They are a delight to walk on the lead. Off lead they tend to stay nearby, although their recall does need a bit of work. The good news is that they are very food motivated, so with some dedicated training this shouldn’t take long at all. There has been some occasional counter surfing, so as with most sighthounds, food left on the edge of the counter is definitely a risk! Apollo is a little more timid, quiet and reserved — the sweetest boy. Axel is the more confident one and adores a fuss as much as humanly possible. They are polite with other dogs, although they can sometimes get a little excited when sniffing. With a bit of continued training this won’t be an issue, and could happily live with other canine companions, or having lots of walking buddies! They travel well and wait politely to get in and out of the car. They don’t currently play with toys; we’ve introduced them slowly, but they’re far more interested in cuddles and being close to their people than anything else. Enquire to Adopt Apollo Enquiry Form

Buddy is a very fearful boy, who requires a very quite more rural home with no children as he will snap if he gets really scared. Buddy is a very fearful boy, who requires a very quite more rural home with no children as he will snap if he gets really scared. He would likely need potential adopters to visit more than once as it takes him quite a while to warm up to new people. Once he got used to me, he became very cuddly and affectionate and will follow me everywhere if i let him. He is currently working on going for short walks on a harness, he is terrified of the leads around his neck and will panic and thrash about. But he is doing well on the harness and is growing in confidence. He will need alot of time, patience and understanding. He will now walk on a slip lead for me as he trusts me, be wont walk on a slip lead for anyone else, so a harness would be required.

Butler, a 2 years old male Whippet available for adoption from Dogs Trust in Warwickshire

Are you right for Butler?Butler is a 1 year old whippet who arrived into our care with very little known about his past. This sweet and gentle boy finds the big wide world a very scary place, but slowly and surely he's finding his paws and realising it doesn't have to be so daunting. Butler is looking for a home with children 16+ who can understand his fears and worries and give him all the time he may need to settle in and a relax. Butler really gains confidence from being around and interacting with his doggy pals, for this reason he MUST live with a pre-existing confident dog or dogs that can show him the ropes. He can still find simply things such as walking on lead quite scary so he must have direct access to his own safe and secure garden when he can safely explore. It's likely he's never experienced life in a home before so normal noises such as the TV and washing machines may be a little scary for him. He'll need support in all areas such as housetraining and we recommend any time being left is built up gradually as he settles in.

Figgy is a petite little Italian greyhound/ whippety shaped crossbreed aged around three years old. Not yet been cat tested. Can live with or without other dogs. Respectful children 12 plus. Figgy and his family went to Roxanas shelter in Romania from the Ukraine after the war broke out. They grew up there and only now have the chance of a better future. Figgy is the sweetest little dog but he lacks confidence with new people and new situations. Once given time to get to know you he is a happy and affectionate little boy. He mixes great with other dogs but would be equally as happy as the only dog in the home. He could live with respectful children aged twelve plus.Figgy fostered North Walsham NorfolkAdoption Donation Fees are Puppies already neutered and all adult dogs: £430. Un-neutered puppies on spay/neuter contracts: £530 (You will receive a £100 rebate once you send us proof of neutering). Senior dogs (10+ years): £150–£250 (depending on age and individual needs). When you adopt a Safe Rescue dog, you MUST use a slip lead. This will keep your dog safe: your new dog will be nervous and will not trust you, and you will not know which situations might upset your dog. If your dog panics, then a slip lead is the only way to prevent your dog from escaping (many dogs can escape from a collar and/or harness). It will take AT LEAST 3-6 months for your dog to settle-in and for you to know your dog fully (longer for nervous dogs). The slip lead must ALWAYS be used during this settling-in period. Even after your dog is settled, it is safest to use the slip lead in situations where your dog may become scared (e.g. visiting new places, around unfamiliar people, at the vet), and it situations where unexpected triggers might happen (e.g. around bonfire night). Nervous dogs may always need to wear a slip-lead as a back-up safety measure. The slip lead is a safety device and must NEVER be used as a training tool. Using the lead to apply pressure to the dog’s neck is damaging. If your dog pulls on the lead, then we can advise you on training methods that avoid harm. Once your dog is settled, you may want to consider using a harness (together with the slip lead) if your dog is comfortable with being handled when it is fitted. Most harnesses are not escape-proof, but harnesses with a strap behind the ribcage (e.g. Ruffwear Webmaster or Perfect Fit Harnesses) are safer. Retractable / extendable leads must never be used on our dogs. Adopted dogs must be collected from the rescue and transported straight home in a secure metal crate. Fences and gates must be 5foot minimum in height and secure.

Are you right for Freda?Meet Freda, our beautiful 4 year old Whippet X Staffie girl! Freda is a sweet and affectionate angel who is looking for a quiet and loving home with a new best friend. She's looking for a calm and patient family as she can be a bit timid when she meets new people, but it doesn't take long for her to come around, especially if you have a Smacko or two on offer! Although Freda loves a fuss from her best pals, she can be a bit worried by physical touch and formal handling, sometimes shying away and trying to hide (especially in the vets) - so to make sure her body language and needs are respected, Freda would like to be the only pet in the home and any children would need to be over 11yrs. This absolute angel is looking for a home where she can be free of any stresses and spend her days doing her favourite activities of running around, fetching a tennis ball, squeaking some toys, enjoying a frozen banana kong and relaxing on the sofa.

Hatchi is a lovely boy seeking a suitable forever home. Hatchi is a beautiful boy who has been through a few homes in his young life before we got him, so we would love to find him his forever home. His recent owner had to surrender him through no fault of Hatchi or the family, they had a change in family circumstances. Hatchi is a very sweet boy, he is good with people and loves attention, he can be shy with some people at first but he comes around very quickly. He would be best in a home with kids 12yrs and over. Hatchi is ok with other dogs, but he can be anxious which can cause him to be very vocal and scared of some dogs until he gets used to them. He much prefers dogs who arent in his face all the time. In our home he is currently sharing with two other dogs no problem. So could potentially live with another dog pending successful meet and greet. Hatchi is naturally a more nervous boy in general, so will need a patient loving home willing to give him time to settle in. He settled in to our home very quickly, but every home is different. He walks well on the lead, but again due to being nervous he would likely react if an offlead dog was to run up into his space. He just hasnt had alot of socialisation, so will take time to learn and grow in confidence. But we are seeing improvements every day. In the house he is very happy and well behaved, outside of the house he is very anxious and is working on this, but it is something that his new family will have to continue working on. (We can offcourse cover training support no problem, to help him become the best boy he can be.) A more rural and calm area would be best, he definately wouldnt suit a built up and busy living area. Hatchi has been quite settled in our home, not destructive or anything. He is also happy to sleep in a crate overnight if required. But he will need some house training initally, as he settles and adjusts to a new home and routine.

Hunter, a 1 year old male Whippet available for adoption from Newcastle Dogs & Cats Shelter in Tyne and Wear

Newcastle Dogs & Cats Shelter

Hunter

Tyne and Wear
SexMale
Age1 year
BreedWhippet

Hunter is currently under the care of the vet awaiting sign-off from his neuter procedure. We will gather application forms and contact the successful applicant once he is ready for rehoming. Hunter is looking for an adult only home and to be the only animal in the home. Hunter is a beautiful boy and a sensitive soul with a lot of big feelings. He has a very sweet personality and loves a cuddle with his human friends. Hunter has struggled in the shelter environment and can get very stressed in his kennel. Once out and about on a walk he is a different dog entirely. He walks well and takes in his surroundings without any drama. We hope this is a very positive sign that the unfamiliar shelter environment is at the root of his worries – understandably. Hunter can a little excited by other dogs so, until he learns to greet and meet with manners, we feel it is best he goes home as the only dog. Hunter would love to find an experienced owner who can help him settle at his own pace, and to teach him how to regulate his feelings when life gets stressful. Hunter is very people orientated and would enjoy a home where he isn’t left too often and will get lots of long sniffy walks and awesome adventures which will do wonders to help Hunter focus his energies in the right direction,. We see the sparkle in Hunter’s eyes of the most wonderful boy with the most amazing potential, and cannot wait to watch him learn and grow in the right home. If you are interested in rehoming Hunter, please fill out the application form below. Please note: due to limited resources we are unable to get back to everyone. If you do not hear from us you have been unsuccessful on this occasion.
