About Celandine Wood

Celandine Wood Animal Rescue exists to provide a true lifeline to animals in need, with a firm commitment never to euthanise an animal unless it is genuinely in their best interests and all other options have been exhausted. Founded by a veterinary surgeon troubled by the number of animals facing unnecessary euthanasia for treatable medical or behavioural issues, the rescue brings together veterinary surgeons, veterinary nurses, human nurses, and dedicated volunteers with a wide range of skills and experience. The charity works to rehabilitate and rehome animals wherever possible, while also offering lifelong sanctuary to those who cannot be rehomed. Celandine Wood Animal Rescue also treats injured wildlife, always aiming to return animals safely to their natural habitat. Run entirely by volunteers, the team works tirelessly alongside their everyday commitments, always prioritising the care and welfare of the animals they support.

Ace, a 6 months old male Pocket Bully available for adoption from Celandine Wood in Wales

Celandine Wood

Ace

Wales
SexMale
Age6 months
BreedPocket Bully

A year ago Ace was a loving boy great with everything from meeting new people, to children and other animals. Sadly after an incident occurred with a drunk stranger out on a walk 6 months ago, Ace became very fearful to anyone he encountered. Something his previous owner wasn’t prepared for or able to manage. Ace is a typical pocket rocket – full of beans and makes us laugh every day! Since coming to us Ace has slowly come out of his shell and is now a different dog. He longs for affection, is very friendly with people he meets and loves his walks with our volunteers. Despite all the improvement and new friends he’s made, Ace will need a child and pet free home. His new owners will need to give him time & patience to decompress and help him love life again! If you feel you can be Ace’s special someone then please get in touch. He is such a lovely boy who really just needs some love, tlc and reassurance after such a traumatic time. We have no doubt Ace will then give you so much back in return. Ace is currently in a foster home on the Wirral

Apollo, a 7 months old male Cane Corso available for adoption from Celandine Wood in Wales

Celandine Wood

Apollo

Wales
SexMale
Age7 months
BreedCane Corso

Some of you may remember Apollo from 2024, after being locked away in a cupboard at 7 months old we stepped in and saved him offering him a much needed second chance! Apollo was rehomed, but sadly due to an incident with a young child he was returned to us. More information on this will be given to anyone interested, but moving forward he will need an adult only home. Within his last home it was reported that Apollo had become stranger reactive, but this isn’t something we’ve seen within the rescue so far. He’s meeting more & more volunteers with no issues, though he does take time for his true personality to shine through. Apollo loves his walks, often getting zoomies on the grass and won’t say no to a treat. He’s super affectionate and loveable once he’s bonded with you, which doesn’t take long, you’ll then have a loyal friend for life! We’re looking for a Cane Corso experienced home preferably that has the time & patience to help continue with Apollo’s training & socialisation. We’re also aware that he has lived with other dogs previously so pending successful introductions he could live with another large breed.

Bear, a 3 years old male Belgian Malinois available for adoption from Celandine Wood in Wales

Bear

Wales

Age3 years
BreedBelgian Malinois

Our beautiful boy Bear is still waiting for a home to call his own… Bear is nearly 3 years old, and heartbreakingly he has spent most of his life in kennels. He was handed into Sheffield Pound as a stray at just 8 months old. His previous family were contacted – but they said they didn’t want him back and suggested he be put to sleep. Thankfully, Bear was given the chance he deserved instead. When Bear first arrived with us, he’d clearly never been shown much guidance. He was an unruly, energetic pup with no training to fall back on. But with time, patience, and kindness, he has grown into an absolutely wonderful dog. He is now the ā€œeasyā€ dog in kennels – the one any volunteer can walk, the dog we trust to help assess others, the boy who knows his routine and never causes a fuss. He enjoys playgroup with his friends, and when it’s over, he happily takes himself back to bed. He asks for so little… and deserves so much more. Bear recently spent time in a temporary foster home to give him a break from kennel life – and he received nothing but glowing reports. He enjoyed pub lunches, puppuccinos, countryside walks, a swim, and even a ball pool! His foster carer couldn’t speak more highly of him. Sadly, due to work commitments it was only short-term, and poor Bear is now back in kennels again. • Malinois x Bull breed – clever, loyal and full of character• Needs an experienced home who understands his need for mental & physical stimulation• Would prefer to be the only pet• Best suited to a home with older dog savvy teenagers• House-trained and crate-trained• Walks well on lead but needs ongoing support around passing traffic• Affectionate, playful and desperate to bond with ā€œhisā€ person Bear has so much love to give. He deserves to be someone’s best friend, not just another kennel dog whose posts get scrolled past. We truly don’t understand why he’s been overlooked for so long. Please – could you be the one to finally give Bear the life he’s been waiting for? If you can’t adopt, a share could make all the difference. Bear is currently at our Wrexham kennel facility

Bella & Gizmo, a 11 years old female Shih Tzu available for adoption from Celandine Wood in Wales

Celandine Wood

Bella & Gizmo

Wales
SexFemale
Age11 years
BreedShih Tzu

Meet Bella & Gizmo, a bonded pair of 11 year old Shih Tzus looking for a loving home together These two came into our care when their owner was no longer able to care for them, and they’re now ready for a fresh start side by side. Bella is your classic couch lover. She enjoys a warm spot to snooze, a little potter in a secure garden, and plenty of time to relax. Walks are very much on her terms, once she’s had enough, she’s done. She loves a good sniff and a slow pace and she’ll happily supervise everything from the comfort of a cosy corner. Gizmo, on the other hand is full of character. He is curious, more lively, and always wants to know where his person is. Once he’s chosen you, he’s completely devoted. He enjoys longer walks, loves meeting people and brings a bit of fun wherever he goes. They both travel well and settle nicely when left alone. Once Gizmo has really built up trust he is happy being handled and carried, whereas Bella prefers to keep all four paws on the ground. They are bonded and rely on each other for comfort, so we are looking for a home where they can stay together. If you’re looking for a pair that offers both calm companionship and two very different, but equally adorable personalities, Bella and Gizmo could be the perfect match. Bella is neutered and Gizmo will be neutered as soon as possible. They are both house trained but have had a few accidents in the home, this could be due to the recent change of circumstances. They have never been crated with their previous family and so due to their age we have continued with this in their foster home. They are not cat tested and could potentially live with older sensible children. Please get in touch if you think you could offer these lovely two the home they deserve

Betsy, a Unknown old female French Bulldog available for adoption from Celandine Wood in Wales

Celandine Wood

Betsy

Wales
SexFemale
AgeUnknown
BreedFrench Bulldog

Sweet little Betsy has been with us a little while now whilst she got to know us, and we can determine what sort of home she needs. Betsy came to us after her owner was wanting her put to sleep after an incident occurred in the home with a visitor. We however believe that with the right owner, and home environment she will only flourish. Betsy is crate trained and is happy enough to take herself off to her crate when a situation gets too much for her. Betsy will will need a firm, confident owner who is prepared to put in boundaries within the home so she knows what’s expected of her, and that she can’t get away with things either. Given there have been a few incidents in the home Betsy will need a pet and child free home so 100% of the focus can be on Betsy and her further training. Within kennels, Betsy can still be nervous of meeting new people, but has started going out with more & more volunteers and growing in confidence around them. She’s an absolute sweetheart once she knows you and who loves her walks, and even more so her treats! Betsy is currently at our kennel facility in Wrexham

Boo

Wales

BreedPocket Bully

Beautiful Boo needs a special new home urgently. He’s a nearly 2 year old Pocket Bully and we believe he is likely to be deaf, although he’s very clever and does know some sign language commands. An experienced home who have previously had or helped deaf dogs would be beneficial, who can help & guide him through further training with this. Despite this, Boo is a loving and affectionate boy who is very loyal to his owner and loves nothing more than cuddles on the sofa. He can be protective of his owner at times so for this reason needs a child & pet free home. Boo loves his walks and is super playful too! Boo is currently being rehomed on our Home 2 Home scheme and is still with his current owner on the Wirral

Bruno, a Unknown old male American Bulldog available for adoption from Celandine Wood in Wales

Bruno

Meet Bruno – A Gentle Soul Looking for a Fresh Start Bruno came into our care through no fault of his own after his owner sadly passed away. Following this, poor Bruno experienced a very distressing situation when he was removed from his home. He was at risk of being euthanised in police kennels, but thankfully we were able to step in just in time and give him the second chance he deserved. Understandably, Bruno arrived feeling nervous and unsure of the world. But with patience and kindness, he’s been growing in confidence every day. He’s formed lovely bonds with our staff, enjoys meeting new volunteers, and absolutely loves his gentle walks—plodding along, taking in the scenery, and having a good sniff. Once he gets to know you, Bruno shows his true nature: a sweet, affectionate boy who loves fuss and closeness. Despite his size, he walks beautifully on the lead—you sometimes forget he’s even there! As we don’t know much about his background, Bruno will need a quiet, calm, child-free and pet-free home where he can fully decompress, feel safe, and learn to enjoy life again at his own pace. Bruno is currently staying in our Wrexham kennels, but what he truly needs is a loving home of his own. He’s been through so much, yet he still has so much love to give. Could you be the one to offer Bruno his forever home?

Daisy

BreedStaffordshire Bull Terrier

Meet Daisy – our chunky little 3-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross, who sometimes resembles a cute little pig with her adorable snuffling noises! Daisy is super friendly, playful, and incredibly affectionate once she’s built up a bond and trust with you. She may take a little time to come out of her shell, so patience and multiple meets will be needed—but we promise she’ll be 10000% worth it! She’s not one for long hikes, but Daisy is perfectly happy with shorter walks, gentle pottering, and having a good play in a secure enclosed field. Her absolute favourite thing? Squeaky toys! As soon as the squeak disappears… so does Daisy—off on a mission to find the next one! What Daisy needs:* An adult-only home (no children)* Possibly dog friendly but slow introductions would be required* A calm, quiet environment* Minimal visitors Daisy will thrive in a peaceful home where she can feel safe, loved, and given the time she needs to truly shine. Eirlas, a 5 months old female Lurcher available for adoption from Celandine Wood in Wales

Celandine Wood

Eirlas

Wales
SexFemale
Age5 months
BreedLurcher

Eirlas’ story began in a heart-breaking way—she was found dumped and alone in someone’s garden, in very poor condition. Thankfully, a kind person stepped in to help her and gave her the name Eirlas, which means ā€œsnowdropā€ in Welsh—a symbol of hope, resilience, and new beginnings. It’s a name that suits her perfectly. Since being rescued, Eirlas has come on leaps and bounds. With care, patience, and love, she has begun to flourish and is now ready to find either a forever home or a loving foster home where she can continue her journey. Eirlas is a 4–5 month old lurcher with a gentle, sweet nature. She is growing in confidence every day and is starting to enjoy the world around her in her own unique way. Eirlas will need a special and understanding home, as we believe she may be partially blind. At the moment, she isn’t showing clear signs of full vision and can sometimes be a little clumsy, occasionally needing help to locate her food, water, or navigate new spaces. However, please don’t let this discourage you. Dogs who are visually impaired can live incredibly full and happy lives. They quickly learn to rely on their other senses—smell, sound, and touch—and with consistency and routine, they adapt remarkably well to their environment. Eirlas doesn’t need someone with specialist training—just patience, consistency, and a kind heart. In return, you’ll get to experience something truly special: watching her build trust, grow in confidence, and find her way in the world. In the right home, Eirlas has so much potential to thrive. She could live with dog-savvy children who understand the importance of being calm and gentle around her. Whether you’re able to offer a permanent home or a temporary foster space, Eirlas would love to hear from you. She just needs someone willing to give her that chance.

Ernie, a 5 years old male Staffordshire Bull Terrier available for adoption from Celandine Wood in Wales

Celandine Wood

Ernie

Wales
SexMale
Age5 years
BreedStaffordshire Bull Terrier

Our lovely Ernie was at risk of being PTS after his 7 days in a stray pound came to an end. He has been in foster since he arrived with us, but he’s now really needing a new foster/new home asap as he’s starting to become too boisterous for the other dog in the home! He’s a 5 year old staffie cross who you do not want to miss out on. Although he may look older (due to a previous skin condition), he is very puppy-ish in his behaviour, he has loads of energy and loves to play. He’s great with people, older children and other dogs. We think Ernie would do best as the only dog in the home as he’s not a big fan of sharing his toys and he likes to have his owner all to himself! Ernie is an active boy who loves to go for walks and runs on the beach so will need a fairly active home to keep up with his energy levels. He’s really good off lead and he regularly goes for pack walks and his recall is improving every day. He’s an incredibly smart dog and will drop, leave, sit, if you say it firmly enough. He knows the names of each of his toys and will go and pick them up one by one by name! He does suffer from being left alone and so a patient owner who is willing to work with this is required. Help is always at hand with anyone who adopts from CWAR! Ernie is the most affectionate, friendly boy who just loves a fuss and company. Please let’s not let Ernie wait any longer for his happy ending, form an orderly queue and apply Ernie is currently in a foster home on the Wirral

Fluffy, a Unknown old male Belgian Malinois available for adoption from Celandine Wood in Wales

Celandine Wood

Fluffy

Wales
SexMale
AgeUnknown
BreedBelgian Malinois

Fluffy is one of our favourites here at CWAR – we know we shouldn’t have favourites but Fluffy has truly won us over! Loving, energetic, quick to learn and eager to please, Fluffy was originally taken to a vets practice by the police after being found as a stray. He had been strangled on a dog catch pole and his sclera were bright red for about a week. He was terrified and totally unapproachable at first but with dedication and love, he has blossomed into an incredible dog. He can still be reactive towards strangers but this will improve with continued socialisation. After a quick stroke on the head and a hello, he’ll love you (of course a treat helps!) Highly intelligent, Fluffy could turn his paw to many tasks! Fluffy has no known health problems. Can be stranger reactive purely down to fear but absolutely adores people once he has been introduced. Would recommend wearing a muzzle for initial introductions. This has massively improved but should continue to improve with ongoing socialisation. Once you’re friends with Fluffy, he is genuinely one of the sweetest dogs you could meet. He adores company and is 100% pure love and affection. He loves a cuddle and really bonds with people. Fluffy would love an energetic, adult only, home. Malinois/shepherd experience beneficial. He has become friends with some of the dogs in our kennels, and is quite submissive with our more dominant dogs. We wouldn’t rule out him living with another friendly dog but this would need to be very specific. Needs a confident, strong leader who will continue his training. Fluffy is currently at our Wrexham kennel facility

Frankie, a Unknown old male Boston Terrier x French Bulldog available for adoption from Celandine Wood in Wales

Celandine Wood

Frankie

Wales
SexMale
AgeUnknown
BreedBoston Terrier x French Bulldog

Frankie is very playful and absolutely loves toys. He likes his food too! Frankie has some ā€˜quirks’ and will need an understanding owner who in return will have a very loving boy towards them. Frankie is wary of new people and may try to nip if a stranger approaches him or tries to stroke him. When he understands you mean no harm, he becomes the cheekiest and lovely boy who is full of character. Frankie loves walks, he can do decent sized walks. He enjoys off leash time, this must be at a secure dog field to keep him safe. Frankie needs a loving confident leader. He will need boundaries and consistency with keeping these boundaries in place for him to thrive. His new home will need no children due to his anxieties. Ideally there would be minimal people visiting the home or you will need to ensure Frankie has a secure space/crate he can relax in when new people are around. Frankie is in good physical health. Frankie does have anxiety and this is shown in his weariness of strangers. This is purely fear based. We have worked on this with Frankie since coming into rescue. Where he once used to lunge at strangers to keep them away he now completely ignores them. However if a stranger would try to stoke Frankie, he is highly likely to nip. Frankie will not nip you once he knows you, so is fully capable of being neutralised within a comfortable and familiar setting. Although he likes female dogs, he will lunge at them over food. Frankie does not like male dogs. Therefore it is not possible to trust Frankie 100% with any dog. Frankie is good motivated and can be trained using treats as well as positive reinforcement. You will need to have patience and understanding when it comes to Frankie. You must either have experience with anxiety in dogs or a willingness to learn. Frankie does need firm but kind humans in his life. He needs his human family to help him build his confidence and overcome his fears. Positive reinforcement must be consistent, rewarding Frankie for desired behaviours and for making his own good choices. With Frankie you will need to be a step ahead of his reactivity and be sure not to reinforce any undesired behaviours. There are plenty of exercises and activities you can do to help Frankie overcome his fears. You will have the best bond with this little chap as once he is comfortable with you, he is an extremely loving and playful soul. Frankies foster have said; Well it has to be said that Frankie has stolen our hearts in the short time he has been with us. Frankie is such a cute little gentleman who has some fantastic manners in the house. He goes to his bed when asked, doesn’t beg for food and is overall rather quiet in the house. He loves to play ball, it is the way to his heart. He also likes to sit on the sofa with you and he regularly tries to sneak a kiss in! Frankie has some anxiety issues which we have been working on and we can already see a difference. When my parents came to visit he barked and jumped up at my Mum…five minutes later he was sat between my Mum and Dad having cuddles. Safe to say treats are a good way of getting him to feel comfortable around you. Frankie is being trained to heel on his walks and we are learning to ignore other dogs, people and other distractions. We were a bit overwhelmed with the thought of this at first but we have found it very easy and Frankie seems to be more confident and comfortable on his walks. Whoever takes this fabulous boy on will need to continue with this training but we can see that the reward of having Frankie as part of your family will be worth it all. Frankie has been good when he has been left on his own and has not shown any signs of separation anxiety and has behaved well when on his own. Overall he just sleeps whilst we are out. It has been an absolute pleasure to have Frankie with us, he is such a handsome little guy! Frankie is based at our Wrexham kennel facility
