About English Springer Rescue

North West English Springer Spaniel Rescue (NWESSR) is a registered charity with over 30 years’ experience dedicated to helping English Springer Spaniels in need. Over the decades, the charity has found loving homes for hundreds of Springers who have become homeless for reasons including bereavement, illness, financial hardship, abandonment, or cruelty and neglect. NWESSR takes great care in assessing each dog and matching them with suitable, experienced homes, particularly for dogs who have suffered trauma or whose needs require extra understanding. Recognised by The Kennel Club and listed in the Kennel Club Rescue Directory, the charity works tirelessly to reunite dogs with families where possible or find them new forever homes. Through careful rehoming and ongoing commitment, NWESSR continues to support Springers and the people who adopt them.

BreedEnglish Springer Spaniel

This is the lovely Arlo and we are looking for a special home for him!Arlo is only 19 months old and he hasn’t had much joy in his life so far. As a young dog he was surrendered to another Charity as the original owners were unable to provide him with the attention, training and exercise he needed, due to them having a small child. They placed him in a foster home with eleven other, older dogs who bullied him. Consequently he never had long enough to relax and find his feet. Understandably this has made him a little anxious around some strange dogs. Obviously he wasn’t thriving in this environment and the Charity eventually asked NWESSR to take him. Since coming into our care he has made friends with an older NWESSR dog and our dog walker takes them out together, which they enjoy. As poor Arlo has never had a proper home of his own he is still quite immature and puppyish, he needs to learn what it’s like to live with a loving family and enjoy all the exciting things the world has to offer an eager young Springer! While in NWESSR’s care our Trainer has been working on building his confidence and also his recall and loose lead walking which are both improving. When rewarded with a treat he takes it gently. He loves to play fetch, will drop his toy and doesn’t snatch it back. He loves to swim when given the chance. In spite of his difficult start in life, Arlo is a friendly boy, full of affection, just wanting to be loved and desperate to form a close bond with his special person or family. At present he is in our kennels, however he is quite stressed and unhappy in this environment when not out and about and really needs his forever home.We are looking for an experienced, cat free, home where the owner/s are able to give this energetic young springer the exercise and adventures he needs, but also a quiet space where he can relax and decompress.Arlo loves a cuddle and needs someone with the time to continue his training and above all give him the love and patience he deserves, in return you will gain a lovely companion who will repay your efforts with all the love, fun and affection you could wish for.If you think you can give Arlo his new forever home, on the application button belowApplication Form

Charlie

Age5 years
BreedEnglish Springer Spaniel

5yrs old Charlie is a lovely boy who really needs a home to call his own, he has learned so much while in our care and is ready to become part of a loving family. When Charlie first came to NWESSR he was quite traumatised by finding himself in kennels, but with patience and understanding he has relaxed and learnt so much. He is accomplished at ‘sit and stay’, gives a paw, high fives and nose touches. His recall is fine and he understands ‘drops for swaps’ especially as he is treat orientated. He adores swimming and absolutely loves sniffing games especially in the woods and is very good at them!Charlie is walked with another young NWESSR dog who he tolerates remarkably well. He is strong on the lead, but is learning loose lead walking and this will improve with repetition. Our dogwalker sums him up as follows; he is an “absolute heart melter”. Charlie is generally a calm, well-mannered dog, he can be a bit nervous in some situations, but with patience and the right treatment he will learn to overcome this.Charlie is looking for a pet free home with a couple who are at home most of the time and can both be involved in his daily care, exercise and games. They would need to continue his training and mental stimulation and, together with lots of love, this clever boy will give so much joy and companionship in return. New owners will also have the pleasure of knowing they have given this beautiful boy his ‘happy ever after’. All he needs is a chance! If you’d like to apply to adopt Charlie on the application form button to find out more about the process.Application Form

Millie, a 4 years old male English Springer Spaniel available for adoption from English Springer Rescue in Cheshire

English Springer Rescue

Millie

Cheshire
SexMale
Age4 years
BreedEnglish Springer Spaniel

Millie is 4 years old and has lived with her owner since a puppy. They said she could get anxious, around her bowl, at feed times and some toys. It didn’t help that her home was a busy one with 3 children, 2, 11 and 15yrs. There were a lot of comings and goings at different times of the day, especially with the teenagers and their friends, plus her owners’ were working shifts. Poor Millie had a lot to contend with.Mille was left while her owners were working and she tended to just sleep in her own quiet space where she could feel safe. Springer style she loved to be out when given the chance. Off lead she was usually fine with other dogs. On the lead when restricted, she could have a growl at some if they were not so polite. Her owner tried to be consistent with training, but this proved difficult as although she tried to implement this, the rest of the household didn’t, as they were not interested in helping.NWESSR contacted a trainer who had seen Millie and she described her as a lovely dog, but said the home environment was not suitable, as it was too busy with the teenagers. She said Millie needed consistency and boundaries but was not getting it. Which was a shame, because with positive training she was willing to listen and wanted to learn.NWESSR’s experience of Millie is that she likes to play in the paddock and will retrieve a toy, but will run off with it, instead of dropping on command, this is a work in progress. She has been fine around her food bowl and toys at close quarters. She hasn’t barked at other dogs when on the lead, even those who have barked at her. She has been friendly with all the staff. It is time for Millie to have a home where she is not constantly competing for attention. So a home with no children, dogs or cats would be the dream. If you think you can give Millie, the home that NWESSR would like her to have on the application form button below to find out more about the and complete an online form application Application Form
