About Manchester and Cheshire Dogs Home

Manchester & District Home for Lost Dogs is one of the UK’s oldest dog rescue charities, founded in 1893 to address the growing number of stray dogs in Manchester. Operating from its original inner-city Manchester site alongside the purpose-built Cheshire Dogs’ Home, the charity provides care, rehabilitation, and rehoming for stray and unwanted dogs across Greater Manchester and Cheshire. The organisation offers specialist facilities for vulnerable dogs, including those requiring intensive medical care, pregnant bitches, and dogs that struggle in traditional kennel environments. Committed to responsible dog welfare, the charity vaccinates and microchips all dogs in its care, promotes low-cost neutering and education, and operates a strict policy of never euthanising a healthy dog.

Bailey

Greater Manchester
SexFemale
Age5 years
BreedJack Russell Terrier

Meet Bailey! This little lady is a typical Jack Russell with a big personality packed into a small body. Full of energy and enthusiasm, she thrives on playtime and absolutely loves her toys – whether its a game of fetch or entertaining herself, she is always ready for fun. She can be quite vocal when playing, adding to her charm and character. She is an active dog who will need a home that can match her energy levels and provide plenty of physical exercise and mental stimulation. On the lead she is strong for her size and does tend to pull, so ongoing training and consistency will be important to help her improve her walking manners. She would be best suited to a home as the only dog. While she can enjoy her own company with her humans, she is not comfortable sharing her space with other dogs and prefers to have her environment to herself. Handling-wise she is not keen on having her paws touched, so her new owners will need to be patient and understanding, working with her at her pace to build trust and confidence. This bright, spirited girl is looking for a committed home that understands the needs of the breed and is willing to continue her training and provide her with the structure she needs to thrive. We think she will make a fun, loyal and entertaining companion. As Bailey came into the home as a stray we have no previous history on her so would prefer any children in the home to be 14+ years. If you have a holiday booked in the next 3 months please wait until you return to apply for a dog.*Applicants that are successful will be provided with further information on each dog to the best of the charity’s knowledge

Bella, a 4 years old female French Bulldog available for adoption from Manchester and Cheshire Dogs Home in Greater Manchester

Manchester and Cheshire Dogs Home

Bella

Greater Manchester
SexFemale
Age4 years
BreedFrench Bulldog

Bella is a very nervous girl who needs to go home to a quiet and calm environment. She came into our care as a stray so we don’t have much background information on her. Due to this she will need a family that is patient and has the time to allow her to adjust to her new home. She will need to have multiple meets for her to get to know you well before she can go home. Bella enjoys snoozing in bed and playing with her teddies.Bella can walk near dogs well but does get overwhelmed quickly, so if she was to go home with a dog, it would have to be small and have a calm temperament to match hers. Due to Bella being nervous we think it would best for her to be around any children who are 16 years or older. Subject to a successful meet.We are unsure of how Bella will react around cats.If you have a holiday booked in the next 3 months please wait until you return to apply for a dog.*Applicants that are successful will be provided with further information on each dog to the best of the charity’s knowledge

Benny

Greater Manchester
SexMale
Age1 year
BreedLurcher

This handsome boy is Benny! This cheeky young lad is full of personality and absolutely loves people. He is incredibly friendly, affectionate and always ready for cuddles after a good run around. Like most Lurchers, he has a fun-loving, mischievous side too, if you leave treats within reach, don’t expect them to stay there for long! He is an active boy who loves his zoomies and could happily chase tennis balls for hours. He already knows some basic commands and is eager to learn more with the right guidance and consistency. He can be very strong on the lead, so his new owners will need to be confident handling larger dogs and willing to continue his training. He also has a habit of shredding his blankets when bored or excited, so plenty of exercise and enrichment will be important for him. We are looking for an active home where he can enjoy plenty of walks, playtime and companionship. Due to his prey drive he cannot live with cats or small furries. Benny will need a private secure garden.Benny has interacted well with other dogs whilst in our care although he can be a little unsure at first. We feel he could potentially live with another dog following a successful meet and greet. As Benny came into the home as a stray we have no previous history on him so would prefer any children in the home to be 14+ years. If you have a holiday booked in the next 3 months please wait until you return to apply for a dog.*Applications that are successful will be provided with further information on each dog to the best of the charity’s knowledge.

Age7 years
BreedCrossbreed

Billy loves to carry an emotional support toy around with him on his walks! He is such a gentle giant! He gets so excited when you go and see him in his kennel and will always bring you a present. You will always get such a big smile from Billy! He loves his treats and will sit down nicely for them! He is very people orientated and will look up at you with those gorgeous eyes whilst out on walks.Billy will need to be in an adult only home and be the only dog in the home. He will walk near to other dogs but he is not always a fan of them being in his space, so will also need a home that is willing to work with him on socialisation and can handle his size. He can be quite a strong boy on his walks so potential adopters will need to be confident with large, strong breeds. He was very nervous when he came in to our care as a rehome, but has really gained so much confidence and is such a friendly boy with all our staff members and volunteers. As long as he has toys to play with and a bed to curl up in, he will be a happy boy! If you are an active family, who are confident with larger breeds and willing to work on socialisation, then Billy could be the dog for you!*Applicants that are successful will be provided with further information on each dog to the best of the charity’s knowledge

This happy girl is Birdie. She is a fun loving and giddy girl who is always up for lots fuss and attention. She can be quite vocal so probably not suited to living in a flat/apartment. Birdie is very energetic and loves going on long walks exploring and having a sniff. She is a bit of an escape artist and can climb our 12 foot fencing so she would need to be kept on a lead at all times whilst out in the garden. Birdie has socialised well with other dogs in our care and is very playful so we feel following a successful meet and greet she could possibly be rehomed with another playful dog of similar size.As Birdie came into the home as a stray we have no previous history on her so would prefer any children in the home to be 14+ years.Applications that are successful will be provided with further information on each dog to the best of the charity’s knowledge.

Cali was a very nervous girl when she first arrived at the home, she came in as a stray so we don’t know much about her history. It has taken a lot of time and patience for Cali to show us her excitable, bubbly personality. Due to this we are after an experienced home that has the time to get to know Cali here before she goes home. Once Cali gets to know you she loves a fuss and attention. She loves going out for woodland walks and gets very giddy for her lead, she pulls a little on the lead, due to her size, so would benefit from some on going training. Cali enjoys an offlead run in the enclosed compound where she can chase after a tennis ball.Cali will need to live in an Adult only home with an enclosed garden where she has space to roam about at her leisure. She used to be a little nervous and unsure around certain dogs, we have been working with her on this and introducing her to dogs which is helping her social interactions. She is now a friendly girl with most of the dogs on site and can say a lovely face to face hello and even tries to play with others. She will need continued training to help with her socialisation. We still feel that Cali will need to be the only dog in the house. If you think you can give this gorgeous girl her forever home please apply!*Applicants that are successful will be provided with further information on each dog to the best of the charity’s knowledge
