BreedLakeland Terrier

Alfie is a very sweet boy who has come to us from a home after his owner could no longer care for him. We are told that he has always lived as an only dog, although he did have a brief trial in a home with another dog. During that time, it became clear that Alfie can become very attached to his people and may guard them from other dogs, as he prefers to keep his chosen humans to himself. Because of this, he will be looking for a home where he can be the only dog and enjoy all the love and attention without having to share. He does enjoy meeting other dogs out on walks and can socialise well outside the home, but he prefers not to share his living space or people.Alfie is a working breed type, so he would be best suited to adopters with previous experience of similar breeds who understand his needs and can provide him with plenty of both mental and physical stimulation. He loves being out and about and thrives when he has structure and activities to focus on.He is currently working on a training plan to help with his car reactivity, which is going really well. Each day he is taken out 3–4 times for short training sessions. He is given a few minutes to run around and burn off energy, and then we focus on structured training using “Alfie sit,” “watch,” followed by treat rewards and praise. These sessions last around 10 minutes each time, and he is proving to be a very intelligent boy who is learning quickly and responding really well to the routine.Alfie walks well on the lead overall, though he can still pull at times and may react to passing cars, so this will need ongoing, consistent training in his new home. Once he knows you, he absolutely loves fuss and attention and forms strong, loyal bonds with his people. He would benefit from adopters who have plenty of time to spend with him and who are happy to continue building his confidence and reinforcing positive behaviours. We would consider homing him with older, dog-savvy teenagers who will allow him to settle at his own pace and respect his space when needed. We are told that he can sometimes bark when left alone, so his adopters will need to gradually build up any time he is left as he settles into his new home.As he has previously lived in a home, we believe he is house trained, although he may need some reminders during his settling-in period.Alfie will need a secure garden with fencing of at least 6ft to ensure he is kept safe.Alfie will make a wonderful addition to a loving home that is willing to give him plenty of attention and continue working with him on his training and behaviours. He has arrived to us with a docked tail.

Once in your arms she absolutely loves cuddles and seems to really enjoy being carried. She is a true sweetheart who is already showing us just how affectionate she can be, although she is still a little shy and overwhelmed to find herself here.Beau will be looking for a calm and quiet home where she can continue to grow in confidence at her own pace. She has never lived in a home before so she will need patient and understanding adopters who can help her learn all about home life. This will include house training and learning how to walk on a lead, but with kindness and reassurance we are sure she will blossom.Beau relies on other dogs for confidence and so will need another kind resident dog in her new home to be her friend and help guide her as she settles into her new life. She is a really lovely girl who is ready to start her new chapter and become someone’s very special companion. Our vets have noted that Beau's eyes are slightly cloudy and will assess this further. Bella

BreedCockapoo

Bella is a sensitive and affectionate girl who has already had quite a journey with us and is now patiently waiting for the right forever home. Bella originally came to us from a breeder and has since experienced home life for the first time, including a short stay in foster care and a brief adoption. She settled really well in her foster home and coped well with the transition to home life, however she struggled more in the adoptive home. She didn’t settle as well and had a few moments of panic, and the adopters didn’t feel as though they had the right experience to help her.Bella is ready to find her forever family, but she will need a calm, quiet, adult-only home with adopters who can offer patience, structure, and reassurance. Bella can form a strong bond with her main caregiver and may show signs of separation anxiety, so adopters will need to be around all day initially and gradually build up the time she is able to be left.Since returning to the rescue, Bella has truly begun to blossom. She has a calm and happy presence and is showing her affectionate nature more and more each day. She seeks out human contact, enjoying gentle fusses under her ears, back and bum rubs, and will happily nudge for more attention. She is also very food motivated, which helps to build her confidence and encourages her to try new things. She has formed a strong bond with familiar staff and clearly thrives with kind, consistent handling.Bella is currently kennelled with four other dogs and, despite being the largest, she is gentle and gets along beautifully with them. She will need at least one kind, confident resident dog in her new home to continue offering reassurance and guidance as she grows in confidence. Her harness training is progressing well in quiet areas, where she is happy to trot along, enjoy sniffing, and take treats. Busier environments are still more challenging for her, so her adopters will need to continue this training slowly and at her pace. Previously, Bella would yelp when being handled so had thorough veterinary checks to make sure it’s not pain related. Since bonding with staff she no longer does this so she was just a very worried lady but has done amazingly with kind, slow handling.Bella is a sensitive soul who has not had the easiest start in life, but she is trying her absolute best to be brave. With time, patience, a calm environment, and the support of a canine companion, she has the potential to become a deeply loving, loyal, and devoted little girl. Bella is waiting for someone special who can see the wonderful dog she is and give her the chance she so truly deserves.Bella is currently being treated for mild conjunctivitis in her right eye.

Buck

Please meet the very handsome Buck, who has travelled all the way from Romania in the hope of finding his forever home. Since arriving here a few months ago, Buck has truly blossomed! Initially a little shy with new people, he now settles quickly and happily shows off his affectionate, gentle nature. He loves attention, enjoys fuss, and is more than happy to make new friends once he feels comfortable.Buck is such a comical boy, always finding little ways to make you smile, but he is also incredibly affectionate. He has that spark of energy that brightens even the hardest of days.Buck absolutely loves his food. You’ll hear his excited bark echo around the rescue at mealtimes without fail. He also really enjoys his walks and having a good run around the big yard, where he can let out all that happy energy. Buck also has the most cuddly side to him; he loves nothing more than resting his head on your lap while he slowly dozes off to sleep.Buck has boundless, puppy-like energy and is so much fun to spend time with. He is happy, bouncy, and full of life, with an infectious enthusiasm that staff and volunteers can’t help but fall in love with. He walks beautifully on a harness and has made fantastic progress with lead confidence, now happily trotting along on a slip lead without a care in the world.Buck was briefly adopted but was sadly returned as he didn't get along with the resident dog. Buck enjoys the company of well mannered female does and does enjoy sharing his kennel with another dog, so we would consider homing him with a laid back female dog if they were the right match. He can get a little jealous of sharing attention with another dog, but in the right home with experienced adopters this could be managed. That said, Buck would be equally happy to be homed as the only dog and get all the love and attention for himself.Buck would be best suited to adopters who have experience of owning dogs from a similar background before and who are around most of the time, so they can spend lots of time with him. He would love to find an active home where he can be kept both physically and mentally stimulated and enjoy plenty of walks and adventures with his new family. He could share his home with older, dog-savvy teenagers aged 16 and over, who can appreciate and understand that he will need a gentle, quiet introduction to the home and his own space to settle in.Although Buck had never lived in a home before being adopted, he settled in wonderfully and was clean in the house. He wasn’t phased by the TV or radio and quickly found the sofas and beds! He can still be a little shy when first meeting men, but it doesn’t take him long to warm up. Buck also isn’t keen on sudden loud noises or sticks and brooms, so this is something his adopters will need to work on desensitising him to. He doesn’t like having his front paws touched, but he will politely let you know by gently pulling them away.Buck is a truly special boy with so much love to give. He is absolutely wasted in kennels and will make a loyal, devoted companion for a very lucky family. He arrived with no tail, but this doesn’t bother him in the slightest and only adds to his charm. Please don’t overlook this wonderful lad, as Buck is more than ready to find his forever home.Buck has received negative test results for Brucellosis, Leishmania, Giardia, Heartworm, Ehrlichia canis, Borrelia burgdorferi and Anaplasma.Buck has a passport.

Cedar

Cedar is a very timid little lady who has come to us from a breeder. She is completely shut down and has very little life experience, so everything is new and frightening for her.Since arriving, she has shown tiny but meaningful steps forward. At first, she was too scared to eat for over a week. It took a lot of patience, different foods, and ways of feeding before she began to feel safe enough to eat. Eventually, she started taking chicken at the back of her kennel, where she felt secure, and now she will eat her normal food alongside the other dogs, even if someone is watching. In recent weeks she has progressed even further and now will eat a treat from the floor near her kennel mummy.Cedar’s fear of humans is very strong. She avoids being touched or handled, and her whole body tenses when interaction is necessary. But there are glimpses of trust: in the mornings, she would run to the front of her kennel, tail wagging, giving kisses when she saw someone familiar. She is now in a foster home where she is learning the basics of home life and learning new skills like toilet training. She is enjoying exploring the garden and spends her time figuring out how the world around her works. She isn’t ready for harness training or walks outside. Cedar needs to build her inner confidence before she can experience the outside world. Her future home will need to understand that progress will be slow and must never be rushed.Cedar will need very experienced, calm, and patient adopters who can provide unconditional love and consistency. She may never fully reveal why she is so scared, but with time and gentle support, she can start to feel safe and learn that life can be kind. She needs a quiet, understanding home where she can grow at her own pace, with someone who will never give up on her. She needs a resident dog that will take her under their wing and allow her the patience she needs to grow. This little lady has already taken small steps forward, and with the right home, she can continue to do so, slowly, carefully, and surrounded by love.Cedar has been given the Gift of Life by Loraine Dixon

Meet Criss Cross, a big-hearted, sensitive lad who has come to us from a breeder and is learning to find his confidence in the world. Criss Cross arrived as a worried soul, needing extra patience, understanding, and gentle care. He had very little formal handling in his past, and early on could be grumbly or anxious when unsure. He required slow, careful introductions to people, places, and experiences while he started to understand his new surroundings.Since arriving, Criss Cross has made wonderful progress. While he may still be a little shy when meeting someone new, once he feels comfortable he actively seeks attention and cuddles, often trying to return kisses with his big, loving heart. He is still learning his manners and, as a large lad, can sometimes use his size to barge past when excited, but he responds well to clear, calm guidance.Criss Cross is gaining confidence with his harness training and has already enjoyed walks beyond the rescue, comfortably managing a good distance down the road. He can be a little unsure if people are walking behind him, but one of his adorable quirks is that he finds reassurance if you turn and face him while walking backwards allowing him to let his guard down. Gentle encouragement, slow introductions, and quiet, safe garden sniffing adventures all help him to continue building his trust. He will need a calm, adult-only home with experienced adopters who can provide patience, structure, and reassurance as he continues to grow. He would prefer to be the only dog in the home.. Criss Cross also appreciates having a quiet space at mealtimes, which helps him feel safe and secure. He will need a home without cats as he is overly interested in them.Criss Cross is currently being monitored by our vets for a weepy eye and receiving treatment to help him feel more comfortable.Criss Cross is a truly gorgeous, sweet, and gentle giant with so much love to give.
